Hi everyone. Welcome to Un Sunday TV. Wow, Rusty. Formula One podcast. I'm Rachel. I'm Lexi. That was great. That was incredible. Incredible day. Welcome to our Monaco Grand Prix recap episode. It is currently 11:46. The race has been done for about 45 minutes.
SPEAKER_01And that wow, what a race it was. I'm actually very excited to recap all of this because there was way more than we anticipated. In a good way. Great way.
SPEAKER_00Great way. Truly another banger of a race. It was a little sleepy in the middle. I think we and then chaos. And then chaos.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Thanks to Lance Stroll. Thank you, Lance. Really kicking it off. And we did view a stroll in the they thank God the camera panned the one stroll with the Nastin Martin jersey.
SPEAKER_00That sweet man looked so disappointed. I don't know if it was a Lance or a Fernando jersey, but he was visibly upset about Lance.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, there he is. There's the Strolly. I guess spoiler alert, if you didn't watch the race, maybe don't listen to this because watch the race.
SPEAKER_01And if you don't want to watch the race, we will try our best to encapsulate the chaos.
SPEAKER_00But keep there's a lot. Yes. Um, we're gonna talk about our normal F1 news. Not a ton, but a little. Some good hot goss. We'll go into our race weekend recap and then Formula Run Club.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then preview of Barcelona, which is next weekend. It's so exciting to have a race again next weekend.
SPEAKER_00Back-to-back weekends.
SPEAKER_01Whoop, whoop, boop. We did have have to celebrate Monaco with a very special breakfast.
SPEAKER_00So for us in the Midwest, race started at 8, which is pretty early. And again, grateful. Grateful it was early today. We were up bottom. Yeah, that means that Lexi and John got here at like 7:30 a.m., which meant McDonald's breakfast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we obviously had a McDonaco celebration. We had some Cameron Hughes bubbles and some McDonald's. It was lovely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So no Diet Cokes today. We're sipping on some coffee.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And full on, like we had to microwave it, make it hot again, coffee. Because, like we said, this race was way more chaotic and a lot longer than we thought.
SPEAKER_00I rolled out about at 6 40 and turned on the pot. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01John, John took my my to-go mug with him because I think he's buying a TV now. So that's a fun fact. Exciting.
SPEAKER_00So I'm gonna might be watching F1 races at Laz's house next week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he basically was like, we can't have Rachel and Ben over. Our TV's not big enough. Which is hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Meanwhile, we're watching things like on our phones on a tiny screen and on our laptops.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, see, that's what he wants to. He's like, okay, what if we have a bigger TV and then we can have our two smaller TVs set up for the onboard?
SPEAKER_00So he's got like a whole don't tempt me with a good time. And then he's Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, he's like fully locked in. Anyway, all that to say, should we talk about the little pieces of news that we have? Yeah, not a ton. Yeah, not a ton. We talked last week about all of the rumors about Valkyrie and Cadillac and are they gonna ditch him? And Graham, the team principal at Cadillac, has spoken out and said there is no foundation of truth. And then Valtery did speak up and say it's a bit of a shame that somebody makes up complete bullshit, which it is. And it's crazy that it like went so viral so quickly.
SPEAKER_00I feel like, again, I don't know if it's just because we missed two races, if the regulations are somehow throwing us all for a loop. There has been constant discussion and rumor mill churning this season, which has been really exciting. I feel like there were some weeks in the last couple years where there was literally nothing that came out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, not this season.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. But yeah, that's the story. And he even had, we'll talk a little bit later in how it got us, not to get too far ahead of us, but even had a very cool Nigel helmet, and Cadillac had a not horrible weekend. I mean, Valentine, not so much, but you know, anyway, rumors.
SPEAKER_00Rumor mail, which again, again, spoiler alert. I don't even know. Yeah, with his performance this weekend and Cheko outperforming him again. I'm like, I don't know if this is helping your cause, buddy. But again, petition. We need Valtry on the paddock. It sounds like everyone is on the same page.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But that could turn on a dime.
SPEAKER_01Also, Colton Herda, we talked last week about how he needs his super license. Oh yeah. Oh, I didn't look up to see if he did get his super license. I guess we could look that up. But he did not have a great finish.
SPEAKER_00No, 19th place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So he in F2 this weekend. Yeah. Which again, it's only his fourth F2 race, but still, that's not a great finish. So the whole rumors of like Colton's taking over. It's like, no. No. Get Ollie Behrman over there, guys. Which he I don't even know what that would be a would that be a sub-up? I don't know. Who knows? Um, you should talk about this one because you have his jersey. Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_00I am repping a Charles Leclerc jersey today, which my husband was giving me a flag for. He's like, you're already ditching Lando because McLaren's not good this season. And I said, This is Charles's home race.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if you're gonna rep a Charles Leclerc jersey, it is today's the day.
SPEAKER_00And he needed all the support. He really needed all the support he could get. And the jersey didn't work. But um Charles before Monaco, they announced that he has I don't know why I don't know. It's like a harmonica. My husband's listening to YouTube in the basement right below us.
SPEAKER_01Like, whoa, man of many talents.
SPEAKER_00Um, but Charles extended his Ferrari contract, which is great. They these situations are always funny because they're so vague. But um, I guess he confirmed that he did receive offers from other teams before signing. After the race today, I wonder if he's like I this is why it's hilarious because he said staying with Ferrari is always a choice. Like he has other options that he could take and pursue, but again, it's his decision to stay, which I understand. He has the whole thing about telling his dad before he died that he sat was like signed to Ferrari and F1. Yeah, I so I think he's just trying to like do it for his dad, which is sweet and I respect, but at the same time, I'm like, after today, I'm like, buddy, you're frustrated.
SPEAKER_01I feel like you might need to move on, but I don't know where he would go. I I mean at this point, i we were reading some just you know articles that people were, you know, chatting about silly season. And essentially, if Max stays, it doesn't seem like there's gonna be a lot of movement unless someone randomly shakes up.
SPEAKER_00Like, you know, this is like the Carlos science catalyst of yes two years ago?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, two years ago.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, everyone's waiting for one person.
SPEAKER_01Carlos, I mean, who knows how much longer he wants to stay at Williams either. They randomly got a good weekend only because of the craziness that ensued. And Carlos, oh, yeah. So we'll talk about that.
SPEAKER_00But it ain't like Charles is gonna go to Williams.
SPEAKER_01No, no, but I could see like if Max leaves Red Bull and then all the craziness of like, does Oscar leave McLaren? And there's the the Ollie Behrman's, the Gabby Bordellettos of the world, you know, like I don't I don't know. I feel like there could be some so much speculation, but we don't know.
SPEAKER_00We won't know. We're getting in the weeds on this, but yeah, anyway. So Charles did sign his contract. It seems like a minimum of 2028 with options into the 2030s, which that's crazy to say. That's only four years away, but also four years away for the 2030s. But yeah, so we'll we'll see what happens, but at least until 2028, locked in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then on the same Ferrari wavelength, Fred had some health issues and had to misqualify, but was back today. Thank God to see the chaos, to see the chaos.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I guess that is one of the reasons too while chart why Charles has decided to stay. I think he really believes in Fred. They formed their their special bond when they were at Alfa Romeo together back in the day. So great.
SPEAKER_01I love that.
SPEAKER_00Glad that glad that Fred's okay. Yay, Fred, we're glad you're okay. Oh my god, if Fred died. Maybe that means sorry, Fred, I'm not putting that out on the universe. That he would he would leave. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01I mean, the last time I speculated one of their ages, one of the team principals, we looked it up and they were a lot younger than they looked. So I think that was Fred. Was it like the presidency? Like you you serve as a team principal, except unless you're Toto Wolf and you just look so much older than you actually are because of all the the nonsense you have to deal with.
SPEAKER_00I think it was Fred because how Fred is 58 years old, y'all.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he had health issues, so it's not just an age thing. That is crazy.
SPEAKER_00He's 58 years old. He's way younger than my parents.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say he's a lot younger than he's he's is he no, my my parents are my dad just had a birthday yesterday, so he'll be very happy to hear how Chako ended today. Oh my god. Well, maybe. I already texted him and he has ignored me. I'm calling you out again, P Tom. I'm gonna keep calling my dad out until he listens to my podcast. Hilarious. Um, but he is a couple years younger than Fred. Wow. Fred could be your father. Yeah, and and my father looks a lot better than Fred does. So there's that.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Fred. I being a team principal is gotta be a stressful job. You are trying to hang on to Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Yeah, good, God bless. And it ain't looking good. Do you think? Do you think we don't know what happened to Fred? Do you think it was the stress of Monica?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry, Fred. I'm not laughing at your health issues with that. I hope it's something really simple like an ulcer, you know? Yeah, true. And it's fixable and nothing crazy. That's what we're saying. We're not being mean girls.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no. Sorry, Fred. I that's a stressful job.
SPEAKER_01You know, like to like whatever Toto's doing, go chat with him because he looks great. Yeah, yeah, he does. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How old's Toto?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Ayo also looks young. Zach Brown, not so much.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Toto's 54 years old.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Fred, go. He's just like take him out for coffee. Do some networking. See what he's doing.
SPEAKER_00So genetics, you know?
SPEAKER_01Like sometimes you can't help it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. Anyway, sorry. We spent too much time on this. We're not trying to shame anyone. We are glad Fred is at the Monaco GP today to see Lewis Hamilton take a podium.
SPEAKER_01Wait, can you do me a favor and just look up how old Flavio is?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01While we're on this subject, I just need to know.
SPEAKER_00I guess how old do you think he is? Is he like 70? 76. Oh, okay. Yeah. That's appropriate. No, this seems appropriate. Like that seems like it, man. Everything aligns on that one.
SPEAKER_01Wow. There was so much Flavio sightings today. So many Flavio sightings. Well, today, today they showed him during the red flag, like him and Franco, which I was like, I want to know what they were saying. And then yesterday they showed him quite a bit during qualifying. And he just looked like he was having a great time. I'm not even being sarcastic. I think he was like fully in his element. Was he smiling? No, I mean, not if Flavio doesn't really smile, but he he was looking people in the eye, you know, through the sunglasses. Hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Okay, moving on to hot goss. Still Ferrari related. We're really on the Ferrari. This is like the hottest of goss. Like pipe and hot. Y'all, we speculated last week. Yep. But Kim was in the padding. Kim sighting. And it was quite a sighting. So for I think we were on top of this in terms of the there was so much discourse surrounding Kim's qualifying outfit, which was a lace bodysuit with kind of like a low rise little flare jean.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like kind of baggy, but not it was it was it was cute.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what the jeans were because I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't either. I didn't look.
SPEAKER_00But people were up in arms about it.
SPEAKER_01What did you think about her face? So I was gonna say I originally was up in arms about it. I was like, what the Which is fair. Well, only because it's Monaco and this is the first time, but but upon many voice notes to Rachel and many discussions throughout like a six-hour time period, and I went to a two and a half hour bathhouse session where I just sat in like a steam room cold place. Yeah, I did, I thought about it the whole time, and I've come to the conclusion that she was making a statement as an American and as her first time at the paddock, and she was like, This is qualifying, so here it is.
SPEAKER_00Well, and what Lexi and I were talking about, which I love that you came to that conclusion. Kim is Kim. Like, she's gonna do what she's going to do. Like, that's kind of her style. And I'm like, she's not gonna show up in a like white linen. Well, she did wear a dress today, but like a linen brow florin fit.
SPEAKER_01Or her normal, like um like a skin body, like a yeah, like a pleather with like a like a hood or something, like something crazy, like Avant Garde Kanye.
SPEAKER_00Not like I liked it. I I understand everyone's wanted her to show up and show out a little bit more, but I think she did that today. She did that today, and her outfit today was beautiful.
SPEAKER_01And then and then the subtle coordination with Lewis's outfit. I am obsessed with that.
SPEAKER_00Which were so cool. They were very good. The cool girlies are wearing the big bug shades. And then Lulu had on like a light pink lavender suit with a purple cape.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it looked, yeah, they very coordinated. Love that.
SPEAKER_01So we she showed up, and her and Alexandra LeClaire were like spotted chatting. Yes, and for us.
SPEAKER_00But she had a fun, like white fringy boho yeah, kind of look, which I enjoyed.
SPEAKER_01And she looked so cute yesterday.
SPEAKER_00She had her red and white polka dot.
SPEAKER_01The only thing that could have made it better is Leo, who was probably at home. Oh, like very happy. But you know, true. He was over here. Did we did we see him at all this weekend? Uh no. Sad. I know. But it was it, he's at home, like with all his toys and his little toy Charles that. Oh my god. Yeah, that she keeps in the purse.
SPEAKER_00The crocheted toy Charles. Yeah. She did like a little like what's in her bag type thing. It was so cute. That was so goofy. That was so cute. Um, but anyway, so yeah, she I think redeemed herself. And it was qualifying. I'm like, she doesn't need to wear any.
SPEAKER_01She showed up apparently like right at the end of FP3. Okay. And then stayed through quality. And did you see the I think I told you about this, the cute video of uh George and um Carmen seeing them walk in? Yes. And they were like, Carmen, what are you looking at? And Carmen was like, I'm watching Lewis's new girlfriend come into the paddock, and it was like swarms of people taking pictures. And the admin was like, Carmen, do people do that when you walk into the paddock? And she was like, Um, not really.
SPEAKER_00I was like, Kim Kardashian fame is a whole other level. Yeah, crazy. I think the last call out, well, maybe a couple more, one is not Ferrara related, but Lewis's pink sparkly sheer top with the pants that matched his sparkly helmet was absolutely incredible. People were like, Inspo for Harry Styles concerts coming at you from Lewis, which was great. And then I just have to call out Lando looked so chic. It never like polo, like it was not the most exciting, but it looked chic, like monochromatic, like knit polo with trousers.
SPEAKER_01He's like so good the last couple times he stuck down his bits. I didn't see a lot of the other drivers' outfits this weekend, but I mean Max is never gonna be one to like come in with like a cool fit. No, I feel like George didn't really have any huge call outs. And I saw Carlos was like driving his or riding his bike to the paddock and like made a video and obviously.
SPEAKER_00I think they're all walking room school riding their bike, so maybe they're not trying to pull a fit, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, anyway, so that was fun. Yeah. On the top of outfits of Kim.
SPEAKER_01Um, the Martin Brundle content has been hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Now we do not watch the Sky Sports because we're on F1 TV or Apple TV, but the grid walk gives me such anxiety. Like, just the clips. I feel like poor Martin, like, no one's respecting him the way that they used to. Like, who he says the weirdest thing. I think it's a combo of things and total respect for Martin.
SPEAKER_01Kim going up to Kim. How are you doing today? And he just holds the mic and she completely goes. Ignores him.
SPEAKER_00Cynthia Revo, I'm not doing interviews today. She at least did it very nice, respectful with a smile. Yeah. But it was still hilarious. And then what was the other thing that he said to someone where he's like, oh, I'm nearly famous? Don't push me, mate. I'm nearly famous. And I think that that's all in good fun, right? Like he's poking fun at himself. But there he is. And then they lose him like every time, and it's just his voice, and you can't find him. I again, I know he's a legend, and I'm not saying like I'm I don't know. I don't know if they need to like but and these are great viral moments, but I'm like, do they need to like schedule quote unquote organic interview and make them feel organic when he's stopping people on the grid?
SPEAKER_01Like, or only like contact them before and be like, hey, would it be okay? And then it's like whoever's available. Which I get though.
SPEAKER_00But like I just think the time of these celebrity, like in this day and age, I don't know what's happening.
SPEAKER_01I mean, Miami, you had um who was it that like bit his mic?
SPEAKER_00Oh, Jimmy Fallon?
SPEAKER_01Jimmy Fallon, like bit his mic.
SPEAKER_00Maybe like in America, I think it's fine.
SPEAKER_01After he was like, say something funny.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. Oh god, which Martin, you shouldn't be asking Jimmy Fallon to it's like just talk to him. Yeah, it'll be funny. I promise. God. Yeah. Anyway, yeah, that was uh mixed feelings on that one. But I'm like, let's maybe help Martin Brundle out everyone. Let's let's set him up for a success.
SPEAKER_01On the other flip side of that, it is very entertaining to see him crash and burn. It very is.
SPEAKER_00Very much is.
SPEAKER_01Um, um, just to follow up from last week, Hannah St. James was at her dad's wedding single.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, at least that as far as we saw, no photos of Liam. So I think absolutely conf confirmation that they're no longer together. Also, like he would not miss her dad's wedding. No, that seems like a big deal.
SPEAKER_01Even if you're kind of like working out things, you'd still go, I would think. Yeah. But also, admin at V Carb, can you please just tell Liam to get a perm again? You guys troll him so much, and it's hilarious. I love it. But he really does need another. It's looking real straight again. It's looking not, it doesn't look bad by he can't have the like bangs and the teeth. He needs one or the other.
SPEAKER_00He needs a new hairstyle or uh to get a perm. It's just like looking a little like we're in the middle of something.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you know, which maybe he is.
SPEAKER_00I think he's probably going through something. He's in the middle of something.
SPEAKER_01He is in the middle of something, middle of a breakup. Um, and then I will also talk about this because I don't think Rachel saw the video, but on the topic of Valkyrie, like I said earlier, he had like a fun little helmet. Again, Tiffany designed it, but it's Nigel, the badger, the Monaco Badger. Which didn't we? I think they heard our cries. Didn't they talk about it? Exactly. We did we were like, please, a helmet, Nigel, Tiffany, do it, and she did. And he made a really silly video about it. Wasn't there like a whole backstory? Yeah, it's like he he he does it in very like Valkyrie fashion. So worth a worth a watch. I did share it. I'll reshare it when the episode comes out.
SPEAKER_00Yay. I had to work yesterday and it was chaos, so it was just really busy. So I was so tired when I got home, and I didn't, and then I had to watch qualifying, so I didn't get a chance to catch up on all social medias. So I'm gonna do that today. Yeah, it'll be a fun thing to look at. So exciting, something to look forward to. We already talked about this, but so many Flavio sightings all over the paddock this weekend.
SPEAKER_01He's back. He's back, he's back. We got Gucci Racing coming. We got Flavio opening his arms to Christian Horner coming back, which I thought was a really fun thing. You put this in there. What else is the context? Was this like an article? It was just an ar I just typed in something. Uh, you know, I had to check up on my boy Flavio, and it was like Flavio Briatori, welcome screen. Christian Horner back with open arms. And apparently Flavia was just telling someone that he's perfectly fine with Christian Horner coming back. Which makes sense because Christian Horner was originally trying to buy that chair of Alpine, but I guess has since paused on that. But I don't know, who knows at this point.
SPEAKER_00I would also welcome him back when we had counts for anything, right? Um, okay. My parents love this TV show, but I I guess Emily in Paris was filming in Monaco this weekend.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00And I the show last season, not great.
SPEAKER_01Still watching it. I didn't watch the last season or the season before, because there's three out, right? And this will be the fourth. I definitely watched the first season. And I remember it came out during COVID, right? I think so. I watched a lot more TV during COVID, but it was it was cute.
SPEAKER_00Um currently five seasons. So I think they're filming season six, which is the final season. I think the most hilarious thing, and this is so random, but I guess it's maybe American show, American team, but Sergio Checo Perez was seen filming. That just sounds awkward.
SPEAKER_01It just sounds awkward. I mean, maybe maybe he's not. We'll have to see. I feel like we'll watch it.
SPEAKER_00Lewis and Charles maybe have like acting aspirations. Like they couldn't snag one of them. Max is weirdly a good actor when he's in his little Heineken's Euro clip. He doesn't really have any lines, but he is really solid actually in those.
SPEAKER_01It's so surprising because of all the people you'd be like, ugh. But Checo just seems like he'd be awkward.
SPEAKER_00But maybe not. God bless him. We'll have to see. We will watch. He, I think Checo was also in the F1 movie in the background, but Red Bull at the time.
SPEAKER_01I mean, he probably was.
SPEAKER_00I don't think he had any lines, but he was just in the background.
SPEAKER_01Because doesn't Lewis say like a couple things in the F1 movie? Or is he just around? Like he's on the podium or something.
SPEAKER_00Um he I think he's in it. He's obviously in it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's definitely in it.
SPEAKER_00I don't I've watched that movie.
SPEAKER_01I just remember the Drive to Survive episode where they were like, You were in the F1 movie, and I think it was Alex Albon, and he was like, No, I wasn't. And they were like, You're literally in the credits.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Jury's out. I can't remember if they have lines or not in the movie.
SPEAKER_01But maybe I'll watch it again on my next flight.
SPEAKER_00We'll come back to it.
SPEAKER_01We'll come back to it. Okay. Ready to get into the weekend?
SPEAKER_00I think so. Yeah. You want to cover a little free practice action?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we didn't watch Watch Free Practice. I had it on um while I was working on Friday. But there was actually some interesting things that happened. One thing I learned that I didn't realize, and if you watch the race, you obviously saw this. But the pit wall is above the garage, like the pits, because there's just not enough room to have them across. So they were just discussing like how much of an importance there is on planning and communication. And then they cited Danny Rick's Tire Gate 2018, where the team run to get the tires. Yeah. And then run back, and he was in the pits for like an obscene amount of time. So I thought that was really interesting. Um, and then Racing Bulls had no steering. Um, Cadillac actually looked really good. Cheka was doing really well, but that was exciting to see. Isaac Hadrar ran into the wall. Fernando Alonso caused a flag. I think he like hit something, but he was okay. Like he I don't think he finished FP1, but like obviously was in FP2. Yeah. And then Charles Leclerc was the fastest overall uh for I think FP1 and FP2, but Kimmy Antonelli was the fastest and FP3, and then Max was doing really well. Lando had a he just stopped on the track. Oh yeah, an FP2. Yeah, and it was a reliability issue, but it was so sad. Foreshadowing for the weekend. And then Rachel found that McLaren was fined 30,000 euro because of this. Oh, yeah. They had taped their clutch disengagement switch to reduce drag.
SPEAKER_00Yes, so I guess normally it's on, I think it's on the nose or the wing, and the Marshalls, I think, need it to the Marshalls needed to get to the switch, um, so that they could move the car off the track. Oh, okay. To like disengage the clutch. But it was covered, so they couldn't get to it. And so they were saying that if Lando didn't have the reliability issues, that they probably would have never found out about it. But because his car stopped on track and the Marshalls needed the button and couldn't get to the button. So yeah, fine 30,000 euros, but 10,000 of it is suspended. So they don't have to pay that until later potentially 20k. Yeah, which is crazy. Yeah, dang, crazy tape. That's so also so funny. That is such a minor, but I guess like every little second counts. I feel like that was a theme of the weekend for Monaco.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, seriously. Um, but yeah, practice was like I said, more exciting than usual to a lot of things. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I feel like there are more kind of like random incidents, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then yeah, we can move on to qualifying, which was very exciting, which I think we were all hoping for. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I I thought, I mean, as per usual, Q3 was definitely the most in the last like couple minutes. Oh, yeah, intense. But overall, like a decent amount of action. So Q1 out on Q1 um was Okan, Perez, Bearman, Botas, Alonzo, Stroll. Literally not a single shocker with that one. Yeah. Unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01Ollie was sad. He was doing so well earlier this season, and then just the last like two races of really not.
SPEAKER_00It kind of seems like the Haascar. I don't know what happened with the development, but I feel like they're at a little stall in the middle.
SPEAKER_01Esteban did better this weekend, but yeah, Ollie, it was sad. So sad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, this was the first. So just they were talking about um Monaco, obviously, small track, and they're fitting two more cars on the track this year. But it's the first time since 2016 that they've had 22 cars on the grid. That's a fun fact. Yes, I know. I yes. So that was kind of interesting. Um, they showed Kim right away.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that was my first note. Kim sighting. And as Rachel said, she was working on Saturday. So, and John and I had a race. Um, so we were watching it not live either. So both Rachel and I were off of social media and for some, like for the first time, had no spoilers. Did you have any spoilers?
SPEAKER_00I kind of did, but I didn't know if it was totally confirmed. It's my own fault. I went on Instagram and I was just scrolling on my like little for you discovery page. And normally there's not any F1 on there randomly, but I saw a picture of Eileen Goo and giving the P1 trophy to Kimmy. And I was like, maybe this is from a different weekend, and so I like didn't register it fully, and then I was like, shoot, I have a feeling that so I did get a little, a little bit spoiled.
SPEAKER_01I had to tell everyone I talked to, like, I have not watched. Don't tell me what happened.
SPEAKER_00I told you this, but I saw a man wearing a Red Bull jersey at the store on Saturday, and I was going to like comment on it, and then I was like, I'm not going to, because then he might spoil something. Yeah. I was like, I just don't want to get into that conversation and make him feel like weird. You know, no, like he's just trying to be like shopping. Yeah, he's just shopping and probably just trying to create connection and conversation. I was like, I'm not even gonna go there. I'm gonna want to open that door. Like, I don't know that, I don't know what you're wearing, it's fine. Um, I think overall for Q1, I was Ferrari was looking so good. And I was being so dramatic. I was like, Mercedes is looking trash compared to normal. They were they kind of were the same. To me, it wasn't that bad, but George was.
SPEAKER_01George was having a really tough time, and and I know there was a lot of conversation about like tire temperature, but I don't specific like it was almost like they just didn't even mention George. Like we didn't really hear a lot. Like I kept being like, What about George? What about George? Also, the McLaren, every time Max would have a good time, I would be like, Where are the McLaren? What are the McLaren's doing?
SPEAKER_00They Rachel's face. No, I mean, I unfortunately I feel like they were okay. I mean, they were looking okay. They were okay. They were okay, yeah. Um, Lando specifically, I feel like had some moments where I was like, okay, like maybe we're gonna get some traction.
SPEAKER_01And he said, he said in his post-race interview that they definitely had some things happening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know. I'm curious again to like learn, learn more about what's going down. I think the major call-out from Q1 was that with two minutes, 15 seconds left, there was a yellow flag that turned into a red flag because Gabby. I thought this was interesting that they were talking about. So he like barely brushed a barrier corner. And I think it was Ruth who was talking to the commentators. Um, or was this this one? Oh, yeah, no. DC was saying that drivers know where the barriers are flexible and where they're bolted and like where they're not, like, because there are some that they can actually brush and hit, and they're flexible enough that it won't cause damage to their car.
SPEAKER_01They were showing that during the race.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so fascinating. I did not know that. And I think, especially with Monaco being a slower speed track, you're trying to like lit and you can't pass anyone. Yes, like every millisecond counts. So I just thought that was so interesting. And Gabby, again, just didn't know that that one wasn't flexible, I guess. Poor Gabby. That was sad. I think it was his left suspension. Um, front left suspension was totally busted up.
SPEAKER_01I also called out that Ollie's radio when he found out he was P18 was so sad. He was just so sweet. And I put um Haas is so bad this race. And SD Bessie has a female engineer. Oh, yeah, Laura. Yeah. We've talked about her before. I know, I just always am like pleasantly surprised. I'm like, but yeah, they had a little like you know, like a Haas, like um like a like a sunset. Like they they showed Ollie's radio and then um Esteban's radio, and then it was like, Goodbye, Haas. You're out for now. Yeah, goodbye.
SPEAKER_00See ya, see ya. Um also great to see signs ended up in 10th, which is incredible. And Carlos, I guess, apparently said something to these kinds of like, I don't even know how I made it through that. Yeah, yeah, but he was freaking crushing. Yeah, that was so nerve-wracking. The fact that it was like two minutes left.
SPEAKER_01No, that yes, that's what I'm like the end of Q2 and all of Q3 was very, very exciting.
SPEAKER_00Well, and so moving into Q2 and speaking of Carlos, I guess, I mean, spoiler alert, this has ended, but Carlos has finished in the points for every Monaco Grand Prix since 2015. That's crazy. A decade. Yeah, and now that now it's broken. Williams broke it for him. That reign is over. So out in Q2, we had Albon, Sines, Hulkenberg, Cole Pinto, Lynn Blad, and Bordoletto. Again, all probably pretty, pretty standard. Yeah, I don't know. For the most part.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think really Q3 was the I mean, there was a Flavio sighting.
SPEAKER_00There was Franco sighting.
SPEAKER_01I felt like they showed a ton of Franco, and I can't tell if it's just because his fans are so crazy that they just like showing him all the time, but because they were showing Franco so much, Flavio was shown quite a bit. Which love. Yeah, love that entertaining.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Q3 chaos. Well, I also just want to say that it does not seem like the tricks, aka the lack of tricks for Red Bull.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, and Mercedes didn't impact anything, nothing at all.
SPEAKER_00Maybe Russell, but that's about it. Yeah, but or maybe Max. Maybe the most veteran drivers did the tricks.
SPEAKER_01But even but even Max, he was provisional poll for like two seconds.
SPEAKER_00You're right.
SPEAKER_01So I don't, I don't, just George had a horrible weekend. Yeah. So anyway, I guess yeah, that's a very good point.
SPEAKER_00Thank you for Monica. Is a very specific different track. So I guess we'll see what continues to happen.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I hope Red Vull continue keeps uh performing. I don't love that George is so off from Kimmy, that's just so odd. Like the Ferraris are kind of right there with each other. Yeah. And even Isaac was right there with Max this weekend, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I don't have my normal little picture for who um like the starting grid. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, I wrote down Kimmy was P1, Max was P2, and it was by like a.004 of a second.
SPEAKER_00It was close.
SPEAKER_01It was so close. And then Lulu Hami was P3, and then P4 was Charles because at the very last, like he waited to go out on his last push lap, and he hit the wall. He had to like, he had to stop his one push lap and then was P4, went out again, and then it just it was like heartbreak. Ugh. It was so sad.
SPEAKER_00I hate it. Every yeah. Okay, it was Antonelli, Verstappen, Hamilton, LeClaire, Hajar, Russell, Piastri, Norris, Gasly, and Lawson. Again, that's usually pretty standard. Maybe just swap Lawson for Arvid sometimes, but that's pretty much. Yeah, it was pretty standard.
SPEAKER_01And the only thing that was exciting, more so this qualifying than past qualifyings this season, was that it was like Kimmy provisionary pull, Lewis provisionary pull, Max provisionary pull, and then Kimmy again. And Charles was probably going to be up there, but then he hit the freaking wall.
SPEAKER_00Well, he didn't go out, I think, or he didn't have a time set with like six minutes left. Yeah, it was stressful. And he had to like bail out on his lap. Yes. And and then he hit the wall. Yes. And he was in first, I feel like, with less than two minutes left.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, but then it was just like all of them were fighting for P1. It was crazy. It was really exciting. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was, I was hyped. I was like, yes. I was screaming at this point. Because I think I whenever was it, I think Max had provisional poll screams and then made like the most horrible screaming sound when Kimmy. Rachel.
SPEAKER_01So the theme of not only the race today, but our entire week, both personally and in F1 world, was crashing out. Like Rachel crashed out, I crashed out last two weeks. Yeah. And then yesterday we had another crash out about Kimmy, because like at this point, he's just the upcoming generational talent that everyone says he is, and you can't deny it.
SPEAKER_00No. I which we can totally dive in, you know. Yeah, Rachel loves talking about this. Oh my god. I don't know. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I was like, I don't know if I love it.
SPEAKER_01I do love it. No, we we don't have to talk about it, but it will come up. That's what I will say.
SPEAKER_00It really is. Well, at this point, yeah, when you're winning five races in a row.
SPEAKER_01And what did John say that what did he say the stat was the last time someone won? Oh, the minimum amount of grand prize that you need to win a World Drivers Championship, like points-wise. We think is five. It's five. Yeah. But John was like trying to figure out the math, and we should probably, we should I maybe I'll ask him to just do the math, or maybe I'll just figure it out.
SPEAKER_00But I totally understand what he's saying. John's like, what's the minimum amount? Like, how many races do you need to like guarantee a win?
SPEAKER_01Yes. How many does he have to win to just guarantee win? But so many.
SPEAKER_00But I don't think you can like I don't math.
SPEAKER_01Because there's 21 other people's drivers. Some mathematician has done this, some nerd who likes F1 and Woodwork. I say that lovingly, but think of all the fans for F1, like all the different types of fans. And there is a stats nerd who has already done this math, but that math is so overly complicated for our little retail brains that I will not be doing that math. And maybe, maybe John will, and we will report back. Or maybe the this person I'm talking about will find on Sunday's Wee Pod. Well, and tell us. But it is hard to try to.
SPEAKER_00I just like don't you're right. I there might be an answer. I just don't think it's that simple. You know?
SPEAKER_01Like not, but there has to be like a if-then situation for like all of the all of the people.
SPEAKER_00But like someone could like DNS, but then it's like like this person would have to be in like this place for the rest of the year. Like I think when we were even talking about this last year for like Max. Yeah, the last couple races when it was like Yeah, there was like so many scenarios.
SPEAKER_01I think I don't think I think you're right, there is not one situation that would be like, okay, Kimmy wins. But I think you could probably be like, of these four or five situations, like this is how he well, and so wouldn't win.
SPEAKER_00This is where I'm like, and we're getting into this before we even go over the race, which I I love. But this is where it's like, okay, if we are how many races into the year? Six. Round six, and Kimmy has won five in a row. Yeah, right? Yeah, five in a row, and Mercedes has won all six. All six. But there are still so many races left where it's like if Kimmy was this far ahead of George with so many races left, his chances would decrease. Like George's chances of getting in first would decrease significantly. But because there's so many races left, yes, it is a huge gap. Like Kimmy would have to have some DNFs in there or some no points. Well, now George is back to P3.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Because Lulu is now P2 for the World Drivers Champion. Totally. But it's and Lewis was like, we're coming for you.
SPEAKER_00So that's what the math I want to know is like as of right now, like what would have to happen to Kimmy and what would have to happen to George for George to have wins.
SPEAKER_01That's what John was trying to figure out.
SPEAKER_00Like But I don't think it's like at the top of the year you can determine. No, you know. That's what I okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, I think you you so I think you could, but it not, but we're not doing that. I think it's just too complicated. And and someone out there, I'm sure, has done it, but we will not be doing that because I'm I don't have a math degree.
SPEAKER_00Well, this year I'm like, there's 22 cars on the grid. Yeah. Versus last year was 20. And now we have we don't even know how many races we have this year because some might be respectful.
SPEAKER_01Right, but we had two less ones already, and we don't know if the ones at the end of the year are going to all happen.
SPEAKER_00There's still a war. There's still a war. I'm saying all of this because I'm gonna say it. I don't want Kimmy to win the champion.
SPEAKER_01I was like, is she finally? No, I'm winning.
SPEAKER_00I'm clinging on to all hot take, hot take, hot take. We can dive into Kimmy after we get through the race recap, but I I will say it was funny to see the same three people that won lat or were on the podium for the last race be in the top one, two and three again for pole position.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Lewis, Max, Kimmy.
SPEAKER_01I mean, Max, okay, okay, before we because we clearly want to talk about the race.
SPEAKER_00No, we we're gonna go, let's go into the race.
SPEAKER_01Overall, what was your because we've been it's been like maybe an hour since the race ended. We've had our coffee, coffee's hit, and we went through the notes. Like, what are your thoughts and feelings on the race?
SPEAKER_00I thought oh started off really, really hot, really mid in the middle, not a lot of action, really turned up the heat at the end. So I was gonna say, overall, probably the best Monaco Grand Prix that I have ever watched in my five seasons of watching F1.
SPEAKER_01I um This was your first Monaco Grand Prix. So this was what a hot start. This was my first Monaco Grand Prix, and I had very low expectations because I've been told it is not as exciting. Qualifying was really exciting, so I was like, great. Also, as a Max fan, I was kind of like, check, we got a podium, baby. Funny. Um, but this was incredible, not because there were so many overtakes, or like it wasn't the same kind of energy as other races, but the amount of chaos that ensued during this race was just truly crazy.
SPEAKER_00Like, I will not stop thinking about this. Well, and I'm like, you said overtakes. I'm like, I feel like we saw literally one overtake. And no one even we like we were like, but like the commentators didn't. Well, it was because Lando's car was failing and George passed him in the tunnel.
SPEAKER_01Arvid passed someone. Oh, he did. Okay, so maybe there was two.
SPEAKER_00There were two. But yeah, oh John must be back. The dogs are going crazy. John got maybe he got a two. Um well, let's start off because it was at the top of the race. And let's talk about your boy.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so me, I wore My Enshantee Quest Lager Honey Badger Brewing with my number three on the back. Because I was like, I don't need to wear a Max Verstappen merch. He's got this in the bag. Let's do Enchanted too.
SPEAKER_00This is an homage with the number three. Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01No direct Max merch. No, and I might have been wrong. I don't know. I'm superstitious. I also wore this for qualifying, so I was like, oh, this is good vibes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, apparently. Apparently not. It's all your fault.
SPEAKER_01It's all my fault. Um, but we're sitting there, and then Max Verstappen just doesn't start. I mean, he did start very slowly. He said that his battery propelled him forward, but his engine wasn't uh working.
SPEAKER_00He just, it seems like he had a sudden power unit failure. Like it literally dropped dead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he said in one of those what during the red flag, not to get too far ahead of ourselves, during the red flag when they interviewed him, he was like, My battery propelled me. And we were laughing because we were like, I am batteries.
SPEAKER_00Like, get rid of the battery. Let's get to back to refueling. Because that's what also happened to Lando, I think, too. Yeah, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_01His power unit, Max and Lando's power units are just not doing it for us. So yeah, my my Max race ended very quickly. So yeah, that was that was that. Um, and then look, what was the next okay, so then George Russell was noted for a false.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, the amount of penalties this race was insane. Unreal.
SPEAKER_01Like, some like we were I know the commentators were saying like something incorrect.
SPEAKER_00There were radar um six pit lane pen for speeding in the pit lane. Six pit lane penalties. Did Pierre get that twice? Um, I think someone got it twice. Yes, yes. Um just insane. Yeah, no, he got I think it twice because he had a 10-second penalty, which is why he dropped off significantly at the end there. Um, but yeah, six pit lane penalties, and then on top of that, I can't even tell you in my notes. I have a whole penalty section in here and we will not go through all of that.
SPEAKER_01No, but we'll try to we'll try to like break it down for like the most important and chaotic ones. And we are still we are still waiting to hear if some of them are going to change. So, like we by the time this comes out, it could be very different. Well, not very different, but a little bit more.
SPEAKER_00We're waiting for Hajar and Perez's penalties to come through. So we can definitely circle back to those. There was a there was a couple outside the grid box starts. Um, George and Perez. I think Perez got one for the outside the grid box. Sure. George got away with that one. Yeah, he got away with that. Um, Hamilton, Russell, George, Cola Pinto all had like speeding in the pit lane penalties. And at one point, the um Jolian and DC were like, is there a problem with the pit lane? Yeah. Like speed limiter? Like, what's going on that this many people are getting speed limit penalties?
SPEAKER_01It was true. And then I was like, maybe it's just because it's such a small pit lane that they're just not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Could be. I it will how fascinating if for some reason something comes out that there was something wrong with it.
SPEAKER_01But that would be more chaos.
SPEAKER_00I think there would be more than six if there was something wrong with it. Because I also think Pierre had two, so there was technically only five people.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, okay, so the race started, Max Max was just out. Then it will Kimmy does get into P1, and he just says like we literally didn't hear from Kimmy the whole the whole until like lap 68 or whenever that red flag happened, and then it was like this not I I struggle to say a a battle because no one was really battling. But uh George and Isaac were just like behind, like just rolling around.
SPEAKER_00George was like trying to get or pass Hajar. And I think at one point, I don't know if it was DC or Jolyan, was like George's best move is to frighten him off the road. Yeah, just like scare him, which I thought was hilarious. Yeah, and then um I think Botas was out at lap 18. Yeah, I think that was our second retirement then after Max.
SPEAKER_01Max and then Botas, and then Hajar started crashing out like immediately after that. And every radio we heard from him was just so like he just sounded so stressed.
SPEAKER_00He is just so, and I say this in the best way, like so dramatic on the radio. Like he finished in P3, which is tentative, but he finished in P3, and literally every single radio was stressed. My engine is going to explode.
SPEAKER_01Like we were like, is he gonna DNF now too? Like, what is the heck is going on? And it was like that from lap 20 till the end of the race.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, it was hilarious.
SPEAKER_01And it's like his French accent too, just like I think emphasizes it too. Like it's just so crazy.
SPEAKER_00Well, and again, like he finally was happy after the race was done when they told him he got P3. But the hilarious part was when he was going up to the podium and then he was getting interviewed by was Jensen Button doing the interviews? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think you're I think it was.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, it was David Cothard. Oh, was it? But we're like, oh my god, did his team tell him about the penalty? Because I don't think they did for a minute. And we're like, is DC gonna have to break the news to him that he has a potential penalty that will impact his podium? I wonder when did he because he did say that. I don't know, someone, yes, someone did tell him before DC asked him about it, thank God. But and he handled, I think he handled that. Yeah, he was very did talk about that, didn't he?
SPEAKER_01No, they did, they did because we were like, is this is he gonna crash out again? And then I was like, I hope they tell him during the cooldown room, but he already knew.
SPEAKER_00God, well, yeah, so that God, what a race for I Isaac. I just yeah, yeah, no, he it was wait and see. Apparently, there's no fix for whatever car problem he was having.
SPEAKER_01Right, which Rachel then brought up Danny Rick's race where he also had engine problems with. But he won.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because you couldn't pass anyone in Monaco. Keep going. So, same vibes for Hajar, like apparently no fix. And then, yeah, Norris was saying Behrman had to retire the car on lab 30. Um, Norris said he had a lot of things misfiring, which that was foreshadowing. And he was like, Do you see issues with the power unit? And then he says saying he had no power on lap 34, but he liked too long a while.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, his engineers are like, Yeah, there is something going on. And that was the whole Pierre Norris again. I struggle to say battle. Yeah. Because meh, but like they were behind each other's. Lando was behind Pierre, and you're like, we were like, Oh, he's gonna get him. He kept looking like he was gonna get him, and just like he couldn't pass him. He didn't, he didn't, um but everyone kind of started pitting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think Russell finally, what we were talking about, Russell finally passed Lando on lap 45, and then he had to go into the pit and retire the car, which was devastating.
SPEAKER_01And then Rachel and I drank more champagne. Yeah, because both of our right, both of our drivers.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, I feel like this keeps happening to us, yes, which is fine.
SPEAKER_01So, so then, yeah, so then we just truly embraced the race for what it was because there was no hope of Lando or Max winning. So here we are, just enjoying our time. And whoa, a time we had.
SPEAKER_00A time we had. Well, we had a lot of people pitting around the 30 laps. I will say I feel like Cola Pinto had a not a great pit stop. It was like 3.6 seconds.
SPEAKER_01Really, he's had very two very good races the last two races, and this race he technically ended last. I know that he didn't because of the DNFs, but he did not have a good race.
SPEAKER_00No, he really did not.
SPEAKER_01And Kimmy was so far ahead that when he pitted, he came out and was still in P1.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think the amount of I think I wrote down the timings after he on lap 51. Hamilton was 22 seconds behind Antonelli, and Antonelli had pitted already, and I think Hamilton had two. Um, LeClaire was five seconds behind Hamilton, and then Russell was 47 behind LeClaire. Yeah. Which is just on the tiny track. So I'm like, that's gotta be so confusing when you're driving around and you have no idea if the like actual car ahead of you is like really ahead of you. I know your engineers are telling you what's happening.
SPEAKER_01I think that's what's special, and I know everyone has talked about like Monaco so special, da-da-da, but the communication is just so much more important because I don't know how else you would know. Like, how else would you know? How else would you um the other fun thing that was happening was the Williams team not like the team orders and the team strategies? I still don't understand what was happening with that. Here's what I think happened. So they had basically who did they have behind them? It was like, um hold on, let me look at the list. It was Esteban, Cheko, Nico. Nico was right behind them. Because Nico ended P14, but like had a I he was doing really well the whole race. Yeah. But he was right behind the Williams, and um they made, they asked Alex if Alex could give up his spot for Carlos, and then Alex kind of crashed down on the radio and was like, why? I don't understand. Like, I'll do it, but I don't get it. And that's when Ben was like, just be faster, Alex. Like he fell behind. So then basically they were trying to hold off Holkenberg so that they could get a little bit faster. Then everyone started pitting. Then when they got back onto the track, then they switched places again, which actually worked out in Alex's favor because Carlos ended up getting hit by multiple people later in the race. Oh my god, yeah. But they did like this weird team like plan to like keep the Audi from passing them.
SPEAKER_00I just feel like it's normally very clear like when and why they're switching, and this one felt muddled to me. And I think it was just because there was other things happening around them that maybe were affecting and impacting the plan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but and neither of them were really doing that well. It was like they were doing well, but mostly because people were DNFing. But Nico was doing really well and was like coming after them, and I think if it hadn't been Monaco, he would have been able to pass them. Yeah, totally. But yeah, that was happening. And then Kimmy was like, Oh, there's something going on with my angel. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00And Bono was like, Don't worry about it. Like, there's literally nothing wrong with your car. And the commentators were saying, I don't know if it was this point or later later in the race, but you're like, he's like on his own driving and he's hearing literally every single thing happening with this car. Yes, because he's just alone.
SPEAKER_01Oh, also, we should note that when George pitted, it was a really long pit stop. It was 5.5 seconds, but he did not okay.
SPEAKER_00I think that was after, and then not that we're going in any particular order by any means, but Lance was into the wall on lap 61, which caused his safety car. So a ton of people pitted. Obviously, Hamilton did serve his penalty, five second pit lane penalty.
SPEAKER_01So we found out Pierre served his too.
SPEAKER_00Yes, or no, I don't think he did. He didn't because remember, he got 10 seconds off at the end. Oh, so Pierre and George did not serve his penalty, but Hamilton did. Yes, but I think the confusing thing is that we didn't realize this until after, but George's pit stop was 5.5 seconds, which felt kind of long. But he also seemed to have thought he was pitting right behind, I think, Kimmy.
SPEAKER_01No, right? He was pitting before Kimmy. He was, but wasn't he waiting to get that? Was the Ferraris, I thought. Okay. Because what happened? So there was the Hamilton had the five second penalty, George had a five-second penalty, Pierre had a five-second penalty. Yep.
SPEAKER_00And the Ferrari strategy was they pitted Hamilton first, and Hamilton served penalty. So Leclerc was pissed. He's like, Why did we pit? I had to wait behind Hamilton. I don't think that was like for I understand why LeClaire was pissed, but I don't think it would have changed. It was a safety car. It was basically just guaranteeing that Leclerc couldn't get at ahead of Lewis, but Lewis was already ahead. So I'm like, I think, yeah. Yeah. I understand why he was pissed. Charles was just mad at Ferrari the whole time. Which again, what else is new? Okay, so you're right. But then I think George thought that he served with the penalty, but he actually they didn't.
SPEAKER_01And when he said something on the radio, Todo pops on and is like, Shh, George, we will talk about this later. And I think that they were trying to just get away with like, oh, that was the penalty, but they didn't. Because then they got another penalty for not serving it.
SPEAKER_00A penalty for not actually serving the penalty, which is kind of hilarious. Well, I think I don't know. Again, maybe they thought they got away with the pit box situation not being like he they said he was outside the pit box, but yeah, they're like, well, there's enough. Yeah. But yeah, that was painful. So again, Lance causing chaos.
SPEAKER_01Yes, Lance then, yeah. And then the one strolly showed himself to the world.
SPEAKER_00The one stroll he showed himself. Um, and then not that much later, Leclerc into the wall on lap 60. Because his tires weren't warmed up enough. And he he pulled a stroll a stroll. He pulled out, I think that was literally the same spot. Yeah, P1 Matt and Tommy. P1 Matt can take credit for it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it was the same, the same Louis Vuitton wall. And Lydia said it's because today is 6'7 and it's 6'7. Which that's why she said six. Yeah, that's why she said six seven.
SPEAKER_00That's hilarious. I didn't even clock that.
SPEAKER_01But it actually worked. The red flag was so chaotic. That was an insight. I've never seen a red flag like that. No, it was like everyone was out of their car. Oh, well, yeah, and Arvid still hadn't pitted. He was the only car on the grid to not pit, and they have to pit. And he finally he got a chance to do that. Like, truly, like great luck.
SPEAKER_00No, they like great luck for Arvid. He finally pitted. And then I just uh Charles again was like, I'm not even gonna take the blame for this. It was the breaks. So mad. And then they showed his brother Arthur in the garage looking pissed. I'm like, oh my god, not a good day for the La Clayers. Not a good day for the La Clayers. Family.
SPEAKER_01Except that Alexandra's besties with Kim K now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I think they the best part of all of this. I think they said that they thought Kim was asking her if like she had missed Lewis's pit or something, so that she could have seen him come into the I don't know. But yeah, so that yeah, everyone was out of their cars. It's been a minute since we've seen that. Yes. Estee was eating a banana. Kimmy was eating his goo. They were showing Flavio. Pierre was sitting on the the wall, like throwing his towel. This was where he found out he had the 10 the 10 seconds of penalty for. So it was five and five.
SPEAKER_01Fernanda was just sitting in a chair looking so stressed.
SPEAKER_00So antsy, like leg shaken, like I don't know what would be.
SPEAKER_01I would think it would really disrupt the vibe if you had to like stop all of a sudden.
SPEAKER_00Timmy putting his the dry ice on him. I was like, it was like covered in something. And I was like, does that say?
SPEAKER_01And um George had like a little ice wrap that looked like it had dry ice in it, but it was like in a little wrap. It looked much more professional, much fancier. Oh, and they showed Arvid a ton, and he's so cute. He's so good.
SPEAKER_00We love Arvid. It's like Danny Rick. He also, I think he kind of looks like our UPS driver at work, which was funny. I was showing the gals. I was like, does this look like our UPS guy? And they said no, but I think it does.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'm gonna need you to sneakily take a floor. Love our UPS man. Yay, UPS man.
SPEAKER_00Shout out to Yosef.
SPEAKER_01Um, um what else happened during the red flag?
SPEAKER_00During the red flag, they showed Hulkenberg and my husband. That is an amazing looking dude.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Ben has a big man crush on Nico. That was so funny. And he's like, with that name, Hulkenberg? Yeah, he's like, he's gotta be a racer.
SPEAKER_00It was so funny. That was what a moment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was good. That was good.
SPEAKER_00Um, I don't think there was much from the red flag. It lasted like quite a long time.
SPEAKER_01Rachel was like running around, she could not sit still. It was pretty funny.
SPEAKER_00I I was drinking like five liquids at one point, so I had to go to the bathroom. I was like cleaning things up. I was just like, antsy, antsy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did they is the red flag when they told Russell that he had the drive-thru penalty? Or was that before? It had to have been during it.
SPEAKER_00I think that was, oh yes, he did know he had a drive-thru penalty, so it was a standing start, so that was like a total, like formal restart again. Um, and then they told Russell he he's gonna do two laps and then do his drive-thru penalty. Um, but it was hilarious because this was when George was slowing down the pack significantly. Like, and every DC and Julian were like, why is he doing that? Like he's literally driving so slow. Like, what's the piece? What's the strategy? And while Russell did not actually cause this to happen, this was when Hulkenberg hit signs because they were all so jam-packed together, and then and then Cola Pinto hit signs, and that's when signs was out in the race.
SPEAKER_01Carlos, but yeah, George Russell was being full duchess today. He was calling people out on the radio, he caused an in incident and an incident in the race, and he was like, if I'm not gonna win, no one's gonna win.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, no, no. I know. Godzama bin Russell is back, he was back. Oh, the other thing that kept happening is Kimmy kept getting fastest laps of the race, and Bono essentially was like, Kimmy, like you don't need to go fastest lap of the race. Like, slow the freak down because you're already winning by like 20 seconds.
SPEAKER_01I was really fully prepared for him to really screw up that start, but he didn't. He he shout out to really good jobs.
SPEAKER_00He really crushed his starts this weekend, which reminded the press conference where Max was like, Oh, I know. Yeah, like what advice do you have for Kimmy for the start today in the race? And Max was like, Yeah, like maybe wait a second. And then Lewis like cunt off Mike was like, wait two seconds. Hearty har, har, har, har.
SPEAKER_01And then Max was the one that waited a second.
SPEAKER_00He waited many a second, too many seconds.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, it was full like the red flag, and then the rest of the race was complete chaos. It was only like eight laps, right? Uh yes, like not a lot of time. But it was 10?
SPEAKER_00It was not much, not much, not much, not much at all. Um, and that was pretty much smooth sailing till the end of the race. Um, yeah, Kimmy won his fifth lap or fifth lap, fifth race in a row. Congrats to Kimmy. I think he officially Max still has 10 wins in a row. I think that's the highest amount ever. Well, he's but I think he broke, I don't know if it was Lewis that had four wins in a row, but he has officially the second highest amount of races won in a row.
SPEAKER_01Or wasn't it um from the first time you win your grand prix? That stroke, like streak? Oh, is that what it was? I think it's that. Oh. It's like no one had run had won the first time they won their grand prix a certain amount of races, and he's continued.
SPEAKER_00We may have to check on that stat because I think Max's was the 10 that they were referencing was not his first.
SPEAKER_01I don't think it was his first. So because Max won his first, but then he didn't he didn't have like a streak.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We'll have to look into that. Maybe we're talking about two different stats. Maybe well, regardless. Kimmy's killing it. Um, and he, I guess, was the youngest person ever to win the Monaco Grand Prix because he is a teenager. He is a teenager. They keep readering that back.
SPEAKER_01But weirdly looks significantly younger than other teenagers on the game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Arvid I think is younger than him technically.
SPEAKER_01And Arvid looks like a yeah, he looks like a a man. Kimmy has a whale necklace.
SPEAKER_00That would be a fun game for people that don't know Formula One drivers is how old is this person? I mean, Kimmy likes team principles.
SPEAKER_01Kimmy can like truly looks 12. Like he looks like a baby. And then I feel like you could say, like, Lewis looks like yeah, not 42. 32.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. 10 years younger than he is.
SPEAKER_00Um, I also just thought it was funny, speaking of Lulu, his reaction to getting second, given he didn't win, he got second, but his Like reaction compared to Kimmy's reaction was like night and day.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, it was actually really funny.
SPEAKER_00Like Kimmy with his wooing and his youping. What am I trying to say? Yeah, he was like I don't even know, like making his weird sounds.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then Lewis is like, Great job, great job. Sorry, I didn't get the win. Yeah, like thank you so much. The juxtaposition of the world driver champion versus the I keep calling Kimmy a rookie because in my mind he is still kind of a rookie.
SPEAKER_00Second year rookie. We'll call him.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and then yeah, the I I love that you put this note because during the red this is back to the red flag, but Marcus, George's engineer, and George were chit-chatting and they just had like completely the same vibe. Like oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Such, such chill, but like for lack of better term, I'm thinking like Harry Potter prefect energy. Yeah, you know, like Hogwarts Prefect, the Duchess. Um, I guess before we kind of dive into after the race, because we've got a couple of things, but Kimi Antonelli won, Lewis Hamilton second, Isaac Hadar third, but again, waiting on a penalty. Which penalty are we waiting for? Um, I believe it is a red flag infringement. Okay. Is what we're waiting for. Um, and then Oscar ended up fourth, uh, Lawson in fifth. Wow, shout out. Arvinblad in um Pierre in seventh. Is that right? Yeah. Okay, Alex Alban in eighth, Okan in ninth, and one Sergio Checo Perez in tenth. Catalan point. Um again, TBD. He has a out of position on the restart, which they were saying seems like a pretty slam dunk penalty. So um but a point might get taken away, which means Fernando would score a point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Aston Martin. So that's kind of so we're waiting on to see if Isaac is going to say P3 and then Sergio.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Which then that would mean Oscar would yeah, which would be great. Yeah. So turned it around somewhat, I guess, then.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll we'll see.
SPEAKER_00The wasp energy.
SPEAKER_01The wasp energy. It was doing him good. The the piastry hive. The piastry hive. But yes, by the time this episode comes out on Tuesday, these things might be doing.
SPEAKER_00So we'll maybe have some sort of addendum.
SPEAKER_01We'll try to we'll try to update everyone. Yeah, or remind us. Follow us on Instagram.
SPEAKER_00It is 1255 p.m. Central Standard Time on Sunday, 6'7. So 6'7. Um, more to come. I think again, um, really, really great race. Even um, Julian was like, I have love today. Drive this was funny. A driver with an ailing car has finished third. Yeah, but he's under investigation. Yeah, but he's under investigation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the podium, the podium was sweet. Um, Isaac did take off his knee pads before he actually got on the podium. And uh, we also were laughing because Kimmy just straight up went to the podium and did not shake hands. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Shake hands, which we were like, ooh, uh oh, they also said that this is the eighth podium for Lewis and Monica, which matching Stanley's record, which is very cool. Yeah, that's fun. His idol. Um, and yeah, Lewis congratulating Kimmy first thing. That relationship is really, really sweet. And they were sitting so like Kimmy sat right next to Lewis. It was so funny. They didn't leave that much room for him like on the couch, but yeah, it was just really funny that they were very funny, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And Kim was at the podium.
SPEAKER_00Yes, like literally every I'm all the memes are like, You're doing amazing, Speedy. She's like taking pictures, and he blows her a kiss. Oh, I think they're cute and weird. I know that's controversial.
SPEAKER_01They do match each other for sure.
SPEAKER_00Um, and Toto was the Mercedes constructor's representative on the podium.
SPEAKER_01I thought he was trying to get away with not doing the the champagne, but he fully got champagne. So that was cool.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I I thought he was just trying to shake everyone's hands again to like apologize because it's royalty out of respect. Like, don't you like their hands?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I was like trying to like politely be like and and and it as an Italian, they're like right next to each other. Like you should know. Um it was fine. Kimmy was excited. I'm sure Toto smoothed everything over.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but Toto did join in on the fun. Lewis was trying to like spray the crowd, it was funny. Um, yeah, and then everyone they Lewis and Kimmy were like both dumping champagne on Toto's head. Um but yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, so updated World Driver Championship now, and again, this is Sunday, things might change. I don't think a lot for for these guys, but Kimmy Antonelli has 156 points. Number two is now Lewis Hamilton, so Lulu has come up to P2. He has 90 points. So Kimmy still has quite a lead. Um, and then our our Duchess George Russell 88 points, Charlotte Claire 75 points, Oscar Piastri 60 points, Lando Norris P6 with 58 points, Max Verstappen P7, Isaac Hadjar, P8, so Isaac up there, which is exciting. P9, Liam Lawson, and P10, Pierre. So that's our top 10.
SPEAKER_00Shout out. Gosh darn it, Max really dropped down there, huh? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, he's been at P7.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The movement was Lulu's up to P2.
SPEAKER_00I think he was higher.
SPEAKER_01No, I just believe in him. I mean, 43 points seems pretty dismal, but it you know, it is what it is. He didn't finish today.
SPEAKER_00Um, do we want to do a formula run club? Oh no. No, we'll do Monica or not Monica. We'll do Barcelona Grand Prix.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna talk Barcelona and then Formula Run Club because they kind of go hand in hand. So, really quick overview for Barcelona. Um, and again, we're mostly doing this because Lexi has never watched or seen these races. So I am educating myself as we go and hopefully with you guys. Um, so the circuit de Barcelona, Catalunya is in uh Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It has long straights, variety of corners, and is seen as an all-rounder circuit. It was built in 1991, right before Barcelona was scheduled to host the Olympics and Paralympics, and a lot of testing is done at the circuit. So a lot of drivers and mechanics know the circuit, and sometimes there has been speculation that sometimes this has led to not very exciting races.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because they're so familiar with it.
SPEAKER_01Yes, however, there has been some exciting moments. I will highlight a few here. Also, shout out 91. What a great year of the 19th century. 91. Woo woo um year of the I'm sure what what year year of the I have no idea. Ram? What? Oh, now we gotta look it up.
SPEAKER_00Keep going.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, 1991, Art and Sienna.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the year of the The Year of the Goat! The year of the goat! See? Greatest of all time. The year of the goat.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Senna and Mansell went down the entire front straight side by side while dueling for second place. Um, so very different than Monaco there. Side by side action. Mansell ended up uh winning the race, and 90 Schumacher did really well at this track. So in 94, Michael Schumacher uh finished in second place despite driving over half the race with only fifth gear. Why? So that's fun. 96 Schumacher took his first win as a Ferrari driver here after a dominant performance during a rainstorm, like a really horrible rainstorm. Maybe that'll be a good omen for Lulu. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that would be first win at Ferrari. That would be very cool in 2026. 20. Oh, I like this. Okay. Manifesting for Lulu.
SPEAKER_01In 2001, Mika Heikenen suffered a clutch failure while leading the race on the last lap, and then Schumacher beat him. So chaos there. In 2006, Fernando Alonso became the first Spanish Formula One driver to win whoop whoop at this track, which made it very popular, obviously, with Spanish people. Um, so in 2016, a crash out. I like this little fun fact. A crash out took out Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, which I know we've heard a lot about like, is 2026 a new 2016 because of the Kimmy George battle? Oh my god. Yeah, so this is kind of fun. Mm-hmm. Um, so they crashed out and then allowed Max to win the race on his first race for Red Bull. So this was Max's like inaugural Red Bull race won. Very cool. And that the he became the youngest to win a race, the youngest driver to stand on the podium, and the youngest to lead a lap of race, in addition to being the first Dutchman to win a Formula One race. Now we all know that since then Kemi has taken all of these, but I thought that was kind of fun to think about going into it. In 2025, Oscar Piastri won, and then Max won from 24 to 22, and then Lewis Hamilton has dominated at this track, so she actually is 2017 to 2021. Yeah, so this actually, to your point, might be a very good omen for him.
SPEAKER_00This seems like a Lulu track, y'all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and a maxi track.
SPEAKER_00I'm literally seeing that Fernando Alonso won with Ferrari in 2013, but that is the only Ferrari I'm seeing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So we'll see.
SPEAKER_00But there's a decent again, Mark Weber, Sebastian Bettel. I've never heard of oh yeah. Okay, so yes, there are some Red Bull and Max. Um, some Red Bull drivers. So Red Bull has also seemed to perform well here. But yeah, we'll be interesting to see.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so last year results, uh top five. Five was Nico Holkenberg. Oh my god. Four was Duchess, George Russell, three was Charlot Claire, two Lando, and then one was Oscar. So this was a McLaren one, too. Which we have not seen this year. Hopefully. So hopefully this year. Okay. Moving on, Rachel. Formula Run Club. Formula Run Club. So give us your little update while I pull your driver.
SPEAKER_00I had Lando Norris. I had Lando Norris slated to do P3. Um, as we all know, he DNF'd and he was out in 19th in the DNF, so that's what we're going off of. So I have to run 16 freaking miles in a week. We're gonna make it happen. Lexi thought she was getting off with this one. I really did.
SPEAKER_01I was like, yes, this is this is Monaco. George Russell is chilling. I predicted that he would end P3 and he P4. Oh, P4, which he was in for a you know, decent chunk. Um, but he ended up finishing P13. So nine miles for you. Which is better than 16 and better than my last two predictions. So here we go. All right, Rachel, here it is Formula Run Club for Barcelona. Do you want to do that? Yeah, maybe because I keep getting George Russell, and I swear to God, if I get him again, I'm if we get anyone we've had before, like let's try to.
SPEAKER_00Let's redo it.
SPEAKER_01Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_00Pressing the wheel. And the driver is Oscar.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I don't think you've got to I haven't I haven't gotten Oscar.
SPEAKER_00I don't think you've done it.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Let's roll with it.
SPEAKER_01Let's roll with it. Okay, Oscar. I'm gonna think about what I want to do while um I spin yours. Yay! He got P1 last year, but like Oh, instead of my name, I put Lando.
SPEAKER_00Rachel.
SPEAKER_01Rachel! Oh my god, Arvin! Yay! Okay.
SPEAKER_00That's gonna be hard. Yeah, that's no info to go off.
SPEAKER_01That is a rando, you know, in a good way. Okay, I'm gonna pick for Oscar P5.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I love that for you. Um so Arvin finished it, finished what? Let's see. I have the results up here. He finished Oh wait, wait, this is his first year in Formula One. Yeah, I know. So I'm saying, what did he finish today?
SPEAKER_01Oh, today he finished P6.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm seeing an eighth, two DNFs, 14th, 14th, 6th. I think I'm gonna do I'm gonna do a P10. Oh, okay. P10 points. Um that's gonna be rogue. That could either be that's maybe a cop-out doing a P10 flat in the middle or right in the middle.
SPEAKER_01But it's fine. I think it's fair. It's hard when they don't have much data. Okay, I um really don't have any family predictions other than my sister gave a very uh detailed prediction.
SPEAKER_00Oh, great. I don't have anything either. My parents are yeah, let's see. Unreachable at the moment, I believe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't think John wants to talk about it.
SPEAKER_00I bet you um I can tell you what I think Susan would say. Susan is going to say that Carlos is going to get in the points because it is his home race. Yes, love. And that Lulu is going to win because he's been getting second.
SPEAKER_01And that's what she usually would say.
SPEAKER_00And Kip was here, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um I know my dad will be like Cadillac.
SPEAKER_00He Sergio maybe got a point. He's on the move.
SPEAKER_01Okay, here's what Carter said. I'm gonna read a text that she or many texts that she sent me. Okay, so based off of what I've seen so far, George will win, but he's going to be very sassy over the radio and may run into one or two people on his way to victory. Sogo will be featured because he's going to make another encouraging video for him, which will push him to win. Kimmy will get cocky and run into something resulting in a big crash between him and God, I hope so. Hamilton. Whoa! So P1, George, P2, LeClaire. I like that. And then um she said no idea who George will hit. So yeah, that's what I got.
SPEAKER_00Love it. Um, scrolling Instagram really quick. Oh, thanks, Carter. Thanks, Carter, for your productions. Um, no updates on penalties, but typically the Monaco Grand Prix winner jumps into some body of water. And Kimmy did jump into the Monaco Harbor. Oh, good. No swan dive or anything, not as iconic as anything Leclerc related. Um, he literally did he like cannonball? Kind of. It's causing Kimmy little awkward jump, you know? Love it. Um, so yeah, congrats yet again to Kimmy Antonelli. Glad wait to see him win next.
SPEAKER_01Wow, Rachel's really, really making this happen. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Um, I'm glad he jumped into the water. Me too. All right. Again, tradition stands strong. Um, we hope you all enjoy the rest of your day, especially if you're you're in the US. Um, you've got a lot of day left.
SPEAKER_01So when this comes out on Tuesday morning, you will still have a lot of time. Oh, yeah, true. Be great. Um, thank you, everyone. Don't forget to like, subscribe, leave us a five-star review. Send us a DM. Send us a DM. Yeah, someone's awesome. Kimmy Antonelli streak. Yes, someone sent us a DM about Kim being in the paddock. So yeah, shout out. Yeah, great. Tell your friends. Yeah, tell your friends. We're here for it. Love it. Okay, see you on Sunday. See you on Sunday.
