SPEAKER_01

Hello.

SPEAKER_00

Hi.

SPEAKER_01

Hi. What a raw buzzing and it's not just the Lando Mon It's not just the Lando Monster caffeine and I cracked open a beer at 11.15 a.m.

SPEAKER_00

I mean like, excuse my French, but holy shit. I I don't know if my um opinions are skewed because spoiler alert, Lando did well, but and Kimmy crashed out. Not crashed out at a car block. But I that is the best race of the season, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was good. And and I keep waiting for the races to just kind of die off and be like, you know, procession. No. Nope.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and I think we were even talking yesterday that like I'm s like Taylor Swift, I'm still at the restaurant. Help. Like I'm Monaco.

SPEAKER_01

Still still on Monaco. Now we're now baby. Welcome to.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. Welcome to me. I'm Lexi. I love this. Sorry. I literally just like forgot the intro.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, why do we need an intro? We have to intro the exciting portion of the weekend. The reason we're here.

SPEAKER_00

It's good. Now I'm just like overwhelmed staring off into the distance because we have so much to talk about.

SPEAKER_01

So we did crack open uh the Lando Monster Energies. We did a little taste test. Actually, I am not an energy drink fan and yummy. Oh, it's delightful. Drink the I drank the whole thing. I mean, obviously, exciting race, you know. You need something to sip on.

SPEAKER_00

Well, they're finally now easily accessible at one of our like local grocery trains chains. Before you had to go to like a random gas station in Minneapolis to get it.

SPEAKER_01

But now we had to go you had to go into the city. Go into the parallel park to get your Lando Monster energy.

SPEAKER_00

So pretty pumped about it. Yeah. So again, we're all jacked up on the Yuzu.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And before we get into the craziness of the race today, we we are still on Monaco. Fully.

SPEAKER_00

We are still on Monaco. We have things to talk about. We are Monaco. We're gonna go through some F1 racing news. As always, we have some hot goss. We're circling back to some Monaco things. We'll talk about the race and then we'll get into Formula Run Club with so many exciting things.

SPEAKER_01

So many exciting things. Rachel and I have finally turned a corner. Rachel may or may not have a penalty. We'll get into it. We will get into it. We are also starting marathon training on another side note. Marathon training starts.

SPEAKER_00

Won't lie, I crashed out in my brain mid-race because I thought it was next week.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely had to put my hand on your on your arm and go, it's okay. You just just do what you're doing and say you're starting.

SPEAKER_00

And I it's not like I wasn't going to run this way this week, but you know, the back has been a little up and down. But it's fine. We're just gonna make it happen. It's it's gonna be great.

SPEAKER_01

You know what though? Lando persevered and made it on the podium. You can persevere.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Yeah. And make it happen. We can make it happen. It's fine. It's fine.

SPEAKER_01

And thank God Lando and George did well this week because my the people that I care about deeply are going to be and and Lulu and Lulu.

SPEAKER_00

I and Lulu, Susan is going to be absolutely thrilled. No. My sister texted me that she just started and I texted in all caps. Buckle up. Yeah, buckle up, buckle up. We'll see if we get any live updates from our family friends watching.

SPEAKER_01

Speaking of family friends and followers, um, we did have a couple questions, very quick questions. Good questions. Great questions. So if you're new to F1 or you know, you just want a little review, question was uh from Carter. Uh virtual safety car versus safety car. Yes. And really the biggest difference is that one has an actual car that's driving around the track and one does not. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Is the biggest difference? Yes. So yeah, virtual safety car VSC. So drivers must slow down and maintain like the specific delta. So they all have to maintain the speed at which they were apart from the other drivers around the track, but there's no physical car. And then regular safety car is actually physically the car is on the track.

SPEAKER_01

Which we saw in Monaco, which going through the pit lane.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And so again, it my understanding is that's when they can get all bunched up and then they can chaos. Chaos can ensue because there's no longer the Delta times, if you if you will.

SPEAKER_01

So then we had a VSC. Yeah, we had a VSC today. And then the other question, which we didn't know the answer to, so we were like, great question. Um, the differences in the different grand priz for the lap number, like, is it based off of something specific? And it seems like, yes, there's a minimum distance, except for Monaco. Monaco's the exception, but the minimum distance is around 305 kilometers or 189 and a half miles.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Seems to fluctuate from 189 to 191. Yeah, which makes sense. This is something I learned today too. I've never actually confirmed that question. Yeah, I mean, I am just like, oh, kind of a room?

SPEAKER_01

Different laptop, you know, each race. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And of course, Monaco's the exception. Of course. Monaco's always the exception. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, seriously, the the family group chat going off. It's it's actually a really good, it's a can we also have a moment of appreciation for this look? And it's Lewis's fit when he was walking into the paddock. I entirely miss that.

SPEAKER_00

It's like when you did, it's a mellow like low-cut knit sweater.

SPEAKER_01

It looks cashmere. And then he's got a nice high-waisted, like wide-leg trouser. With a baseball cat. I would I would wear that outfit, honestly. Uh speaking of Lewis, not to get off topic, but I sent Rachel his photo. I think when he was coming into practice. Oh, my God. I was like, why did and he had camo pants on, which John loves his camo pants. He wears them all the time. I think he'd wear them like every day if he could. I'm all about a camo card. But I was like, why does this look so good? Like Lewis always looks good, but I was like, I love it. And Rachel said, She said, he low-key looks American.

SPEAKER_00

He low-key looked American, but I meant that in the best way. Anyway, casual. Yeah. Sometimes he and he looks great in whatever he wears, but the contrast between the sequenced pink top and bottom. Yes. With the with the cape. With the cape, the purple cape and the like matching suiting. Yeah, compared to the casual.

SPEAKER_01

And I loved it. Yeah, no, he looks great. So anyway, that's just a little side note that uh really appreciated fashion segments. Lulu's look, uh, so good.

SPEAKER_00

Lulu's look. Okay, should we dive back into Monaco quick? We're diving back into the Monaco pool here. Um we can't leave. We're still hanging out. So Checko did receive a 10-second time penalty. We might have. Did we talk about that?

SPEAKER_01

No, well, I don't think it was officially.

SPEAKER_00

I can't remember, but officially official, Checo received a 10-second time pen penalty for his right front wheel was found outside of his starting devastating. Devastating. So no points for Cadillac, but Alonzo did get a point for Aston Martin.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, so now Cadillac's the only team still who has zero points. Damn. Because Aston Martin has one now.

SPEAKER_00

So I will say I feel like increasingly Checo is looking better. Poor Veltry Botas, but Checo has been looking and maybe it's because of all the retirements and whatnot over the last couple races, but I believe in them.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, uh truly in Monaco, he did do well. He it's not like he didn't do well this week, but you know, Monaco was great.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and I feel silly. We entirely missed this. We said on the podcast that we thought Pierre knew about his penalties during the red flag. Because he looked devastated.

SPEAKER_01

He was throwing towels around and sitting on the wall. We were like, oh, they just told him. But he didn't know.

SPEAKER_00

We that celebrate he celebrated crossing the line in P3 when in fact he had a 10-second time penalty. So originally it was Hadjar held on to P3.

SPEAKER_01

And they did not overturn Isaac's uh uh penalty. So he after the race, it was like, nope, he really got P3.

SPEAKER_00

He really got P3. And it there was so all this talk about how like Isaac, I just thought it was funny. Isaac and um Kimmy, if you added their ages together, was younger than Lewis. They were together, they're 40, and Lewis is 41. Just a fun side note, but yeah, so Gasly did file um a motion to overturn Pierre's penalties, and it happened.

SPEAKER_01

Daddy Flavio really came through for our boy Pierre.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if I've ever seen him smile that big. I Flavio. Pierre smiles. Pierre smiles, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But but Flavio hugging and smiling, and oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

It was sweet. And then hit Pierre walking into the garage and being like, we got P3.

SPEAKER_01

We got P3. Yeah. But then poor Isaac, after all that drama, gets P3 taken away.

SPEAKER_00

And he seems fine. Him and Pierre seem good. They were like playing soccer together.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Isaac actually really did handle it well from what we were shown.

SPEAKER_00

But which kind of shocking because sometimes handles.

SPEAKER_01

Do you know what? Side note, we didn't hear any Isaac radios today. We didn't. Nothing. And he was crushing it. I bet he had.

SPEAKER_00

He probably didn't have any negative or like he wasn't crashing out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's true. He didn't have anything crazy going on, so they didn't show it.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, the aftermath math of this whole P3 overturn is I've never seen anything like this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. In my five long years of watching F1.

SPEAKER_01

But it's crazy. So now, so now McLaren and Red Bull and sort of Mercedes. I don't know if Mercedes is officially, and I don't know what's going to happen with any of this because I haven't seen any updates.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think anything's gonna happen, but you don't have to do that.

SPEAKER_01

I have not, because this is insanity.

SPEAKER_00

This is crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Oscar had a good quote, if you want to read it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so Oscar said because McLaren and Red Bull are trying to overturn the penalties.

SPEAKER_01

Obviously. And why not?

SPEAKER_00

Obviously. Um, so it's Oscar had the precedent as it is, is you don't serve the penalty, you take it to court, you wait probably a few months to decide the race, and who the hell wants to go racing like that? Yeah. And I kind of agree.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I absolutely agree.

SPEAKER_00

I think this is now opening the door for a lot of managing the gray for lack of a better way.

SPEAKER_01

Truly a can, a can of Well, even Toto had a quote. I don't I don't I didn't put exactly what the quote was, but basically he was like, Yeah, we're going to do the same thing because why not? But what is 20 like if if George gets 20 seconds back, like what does that mean? Like that's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

That seems absolutely wild.

SPEAKER_01

Insane.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. The race should be term be determined by what is truly happening on track. Let them race in real time. Let them race. I and again, could be so ignorant, but why can't they figure things out in the moment? It doesn't seem to be that difficult. And like, why couldn't have peers been settled? I realize it might have not been enough time between the when he got all the penalties or the red flag and the end of the race, but why couldn't they have at least kind of reviewed that a little bit sooner? Or even Isaac's. Right, right. I I just again, I understand that they want to be as thorough as possible, but at the same time, too, I'm like, do we dude, do they need to hire more people? Yeah. And then John was like, they certainly don't have enough money. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then we started listing all of the sponsors that like that are just on the racetrack. We were talking about like who doesn't use Microsoft or Google Chrome?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I'm like, we use Oracle and Atlas on a daily basis. Yes. I'm like at work.

SPEAKER_01

Why can't we? So we were joking about how like what is the problem? Why, why, why can't they look at these things during the race or make a decision? I don't know. So if anyone knows, please let us know.

SPEAKER_00

Share your knowledge with us. Share your knowledge. I just it feel it doesn't feel good for anyone because Isaac celebrated a podium that he ultimately didn't get. Pierre did Pierre didn't get to celebrate a podium that means so much. Again, Monaco, the ultimate exception and crown jewel.

SPEAKER_01

Pierre actu didn't he actually cross P3?

SPEAKER_00

He actually crossed in P3. Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

That's the worst part. Yeah. Like the worst part of all of this is he actually passed in P3. So whether or not he knew or didn't know he had a penalty, he still crossed in P3.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and this sounds stupid, but I didn't realize, and again, I don't know why. I just never actually thought about this deeply. But if if you you don't serve or if you go into the pits, you have to serve your pet your penalty. That makes sense. But I guess I didn't, I thought you could like choose not to serve or just have it, or just have it taken off your final time. Right. But that makes, but if you don't go pit, then it just comes off your time at the end.

SPEAKER_01

Is that different? Because I'm thinking back to remember when Valterie had his first race and they were like he's gonna have to serve his five-second penalty from his last race, and they were like just kidding, he doesn't need to. Did they just change something about that?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I think that might have been different because it was like race to race. Oh, because that carried over from this year to last year. Yeah. Is that we're gonna do that?

SPEAKER_01

Or even even not even because he didn't race last year, so it was 2024. Oh, that's right. Right?

SPEAKER_00

I think that's an entirely different research on this. But that the one from one race to the next, I would assume he got the penalty and he wasn't able to do that. But then why didn't they take it off? That's a great point.

SPEAKER_01

Which they did end up not that he didn't have to serve it, but I don't remember why. And I don't remember what the difference is. So maybe we'll look into that.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe it was a specific like drive-thru penalty. Maybe that he like had to actually stop and serve and they couldn't take George's. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We can look into that. And if you know, let us know. If you know, let us know. But anyway, all that to say, congrats to Pierre.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

As of right now, he is P3.

SPEAKER_01

He's yeah, he's P3 in Monaco. He got he got his Monaco quote unquote podium.

SPEAKER_00

So great job. Um, in other news, Red Bull has the best engine, which is like so exciting and yet confusing.

SPEAKER_01

What's okay, what's not exciting though, is it kind of low-key feels like you're getting penalized for having a really good engine. 100%. Because they don't get any more upgrades.

SPEAKER_00

So it sounds like this information leaked. Yes. This is not public knowledge. So this is like the F1 introduced, and you might know better than me, Lex, because you put this in here, but the additional development and upgrade opportunities mechanism for 2026 to measure like the engine performance to help struggling, struggling manufacturers catch up.

SPEAKER_01

A duo.

SPEAKER_00

A duo, which is kind of a fun.

SPEAKER_01

And apparently it's like measured in the races. So this isn't like the teams, the other teams sandbagged and Red Bull wasn't like privy to this. Got it. It's like just yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, but it's interesting because okay, the power unit is the both the ICE and the ERS. So the internal combustion engine, which is six or yes, yeah, which is no 45, 40% of the power unit, and the ERS, the electrical recovery system, which is 60% of the power unit. Right now. As of right now, going to change. What oh, going to change. Oh, we need to talk about that. Oh god. Okay, we'll circle back. Yeah, we'll circle back. Um, but they only measured the ICE, which is fascinating because again, only 40%. And it seems like the battery or the electrical recovery system is where people are struggling. So that's why it's so crappy. Because Red Bull, yes, best engine, however, they're clearly struggling with their battery.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, struggling with their battery and don't get any more upgrades from what I understand. Because basically, it's like here's all of the engines, and then the one with the worst gets like a more a larger allotment of their funds. Which Mercedes. Yeah, they get they get an upgrade. Yeah. And it's it, I guess they measure this between like um red flags was talking about this, so I didn't write this down, and I'm doing this off of memory, so I'm so sorry if this is incorrect. We will look further into it if it becomes more of a thing. But it's like there's certain segments during the season that they look into it. Yes. So we just finished the first segment, and then there's like at least two more, right? Yes, yes, yes. So the this is basically means that you cannot upgrade for the next two seg or Red Bull cannot upgrade for the next two segments. Mercedes gets one, and then it's like so on and so forth.

SPEAKER_00

But the funny thing is, is Mercedes actually going to do anything to upgrade their power unit?

SPEAKER_01

So they don't have to upgrade the power unit, they can use the funds for anything. Yeah, and that's why Red Bull's kind of fucked because they still have a heavy car. They're chat, so even if I guess shout out to Ford. Shout out to Ford, so they're really killing the Ford's really doing the things, but their chassis is not where it needs to be, and that's their problem. So a lot of that's what we were talking about.

SPEAKER_00

Stupid freaking battery.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And this is what's so silly. So, like what happened in Monaco, it's not that the there's something wrong with the engine, it's just it's not it's not working with the chassis in the way that it should. So then it's you know, so Mercedes, which makes sense because Mercedes, who is developing all the things based on all the things, so like based on their car, based on their engine, it's working together better. So yeah, it's and same with Ferrari. It makes sense. Like they're making they're making their own things specifically for their uh cars. Oh, absolutely. So we'll see what goes on.

SPEAKER_00

We'll see. Again, I just and I think P1 with Matt and Tommy. Uh sorry we're referencing other podcasts, but I think that's where we get it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we like listening. We can't stop. We're obsessed, we're obsessed, so we just continuously listen to other podcasts.

SPEAKER_00

But they were saying it seems so silly that they're hiding or not releasing this information because we can see this on the track. Yeah, like we can see all of this on the track. Like, no one should be embarrassed that you maybe have the worst engine. Like, we know.

SPEAKER_01

The other thing that's odd to me is that as fans, like when you're following the sport and they want more fandom, we want to know all the information.

SPEAKER_00

We want to understand this.

SPEAKER_01

Specifically, F1 fans who are like I would say, like, our what we love about the sport is obviously the drama, but we do get lost in the weeds on like what makes teams better and whatnot. Like, we're not sitting here with like spreadsheets looking at their data specifically, but like even us.

SPEAKER_00

No, I think that's the fun part is figuring out like what uh certain teams are doing better than others, and like the hacks and like the potential drama surrounding the like skirting around the regulations. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So give it why are you why are you hiding? If you want the fandom to grow, let us know what's going on. Please know what's going on. We want to learn. Like you're letting the influencers in, but let us talk to these duo people. Seeing the pit stops today was thrilling. Like I really missed you really got excited about that. Yes, I missed seeing we barely saw any of them the last couple races because there was so much chaos.

SPEAKER_00

So much chaos surrounding.

SPEAKER_01

Today I was like, hell yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Let's go. Also, shout out to most teams. Like quick. It was like 2.1, 2.2, lots of 2.3, 2.6. Like except people were fucking Red Bull. Someone got a four, and I can't remember who I was.

SPEAKER_01

I think it was I think it was Racing Bulls or Red Bull. It was awful. Or maybe it was Haas. Haas had a bad one, too.

SPEAKER_00

Was it Max's page?

SPEAKER_01

Max's first one was like 3.8 or something. Yeah. That's fine. I want to know what he said about that. Anyway, so that's kind of the update on the engine. And then I was trying to find specifically what that regulation update was, and I don't think they actually made a regulation change where they were talking about how next year there's gonna be something different.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, next year. So agreed power unit changes for 2027. The internal combustion engine max power is gonna go to from 400 kilowatts to 420 kilowatts, and the fuel flow increase. I don't know what any of this means, but I'm reading it, is going to be from zero to five percent. And then the MG UK is going from, so there's max power, max power overtake mode, and max harvesting power. So in 2026, we're at for max power 350 kilowatts, we're going to 300. Max power overtake mode, 350 kilowatts. It's staying the same, but actually the same through 2028. Max harvesting power is going from 350 kilowatts to 375. Okay. I was the power split ICE MG. UK. So it says right now 5347 in 2026 and then 5842. Oh, and then 6040 in 2028. That's what Max wants. 6040. He wants 6040. Okay. Correct me if I'm. I am reading this off of the FIA. So whatever we're reading is true. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_01

We are reading true things.

SPEAKER_00

What's going on? We'll have to connect the dots a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Our new friends who follow us on Instagram and are listening maybe can help us out.

SPEAKER_00

Great. Great. Excellent. Power unit changes coming down the pipeline.

SPEAKER_01

Moving on. Women of Le Mans. Lots of cool representation. Honestly. Like not a lot. Because it hasn't ended yet, right? No. It's still going on. I believe so. At the time of us talking. Hang on. Nope.

SPEAKER_00

Le Mans 24 Hour. Toyota beats BMW. Catalog for first win in four years.

SPEAKER_01

Caddy?

SPEAKER_00

June 14th, 2026 at 943.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Nick DeVries. Congratulations. Former F1 driver, Nick DeVries. Looks like their team took the top spot in the number seven Toyota. Nice. At the end of the tenth um low drama race. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well, very opposite of Barcelona.

SPEAKER_00

Very opposite.

SPEAKER_01

Um, okay, we just wanted to quick highlight the women that participated. Yes. Because it's exciting to have them and it seems to be something that's less, you know. Thanks, thanks to all the things that all the women in motorsport have done. Specifically shouting out Susie Wolfe, uh, who we'll also talk about a little bit. But Jamie Chadwick is a Williams F1 team development driver. She's the first woman to drive hypercar during opening session of test day.

SPEAKER_00

Love it. So shout out to Jamie. Sometimes she'll do interviews um too for the F1 races. She's a little bit of a good one. What a delight.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the hyper the hypercar stuff looks so cool. And then Dorian Pan, who obviously we've talked about because she was the 2025 F1 Academy Championship, and she was the one that drove the Mercedes Lewis Hamilton F1 car a couple weeks ago. But she's a Mercedes development driver in F1, and she set the fastest last lap time in the Le Mans P2 session.

SPEAKER_00

Super exciting. Super exciting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like huge anyway, but especially to be the first woman uh to do that. And she also uh was the first woman in the Le Mans history to claim pole position in any category. So huge congrats to Dorian. I would like to think that maybe she had some inspo from Leo Leclair.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe. And then Lilu Wa Du.

SPEAKER_00

I have never heard of her before. Um, but it just it sounds like this is her third appearance. Great. Love it. So shout out to Lilu. Lilu? Cute name. Well, yeah, very however you pronounce it.

SPEAKER_01

And now we've all heard of her. So this is good.

SPEAKER_00

I did just look up, and it sounds like Dorian Pond um and team retired from the Le Mans rates with under three and a half hours remaining due to a severe front left break failure. Danger. Which is such a bummer. That sucks.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway. Very max versaping of them.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't take away her record. So shout out.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, you you have to talk about this one.

SPEAKER_00

More time 100 lists. Rachel's favorite topic. My favorite topic. Um, so now we're getting specific with Times 100 most influential people in sports. Four people on it from F1. I know. We're related to F1. Um, Lando Norris, gotta love him. Lando So again, there's multiple categories. Lando Norris as the reigning world champion was under the icons category. It was sweet. He just like had a little quote about how he thought he wouldn't cry, but he did. So cute. So sweet emotionally intelligent, mental health conscious man. Um, Kimmy Antonelli for being the championship leader. Um, he was under the leaders category. I think like it's the whale tail. It's the whale tail. It's the fact that he is the youngest uh to lead the world drivers championship.

SPEAKER_01

Also, update on the whale tail. Yes. We did get to the bottom. And by we, shout out to Angie. Shout out. Uh he's wearing a whale tail. Vogue did a little piece on him. Um, and he wears the whale tail. His mom bought it for him. I think seven years ago. So if he's 19, he was like like a tween.

SPEAKER_00

And doesn't it represent something in Italian?

SPEAKER_01

In Italian, it represents good luck.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah. The whale tail is working. Yeah, so uh maybe today.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, except, but even today, he's he's doing fine.

SPEAKER_00

He was great, he is doing just fine.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, that was a that was a fun update on the whale tail choker.

SPEAKER_00

Um, speaking of no, I'm just kidding. No transition into that. Uh Suzy Wolf was listed as the F1 Academy Managing Director under Innovators. Of course, I think that goes without saying integrating women into F1. We have got to find her book. I need to just I need to just order it. We should just audio book it.

SPEAKER_01

I yeah, because I think she I think she reads, yeah, yeah. We should just do that. We should just do that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, good long run. Yeah, good long run. I was just about to say, yes, long. Um, and then last but not least, Amna Al Kabesi, um, ex F1 Academy driver under the leadership category. I can't remember what the stat was, but I believe it was in 2018. Um they, I think in Saudi Arabia, they allowed women to drive. And so a couple months after that, um, she started racing. I can't remember what category. Excuse me.

SPEAKER_01

Um I know we were just literally just had that up on F1 Academy had a little article about it.

SPEAKER_00

But so anyway, her and her sister were both in F1 Academy. You can see or hear more about their story again, plugging the F1 Academy docuseries on Netflix. Oh yeah, I still highly recommend.

SPEAKER_01

I'm still on off campus and Love Island. Oh. Which is so good. You should.

SPEAKER_00

I'm on every summer after.

SPEAKER_01

I know, and I keep getting pushed that on Prime. So I'm gonna have to fellow into that.

SPEAKER_00

That one is maybe not as good. But I also didn't read off-campus books. Anyway. There's books. Off campus? I didn't read off campus is a book series. Did not know that. What? Did not know that. Off campus is a book series every summer after, every year after. Also a book series. Okay, okay. Yeah. All right. It is a strong summer for book.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, it is. It's so many good books. Book adaptions.

SPEAKER_00

That's the word I was looking for. Anyway, off topic, sorry. Oh no, I love it. Always love an off-topic. I'm like trying to pull up this list again because I feel like I the top the 100 most influencer? Yes, I feel like I have to. I can't not do Amna Al Kabesi. So here we go. I can't get this stat wrong.

SPEAKER_01

I just want to make sure we She'll not sleep for days. Literally won't sleep for days.

SPEAKER_00

I won't sleep. So in 2018, six months after women were legally permitted to drive in Saudi Arabia. Okay, she was the first woman of Arab descent to participate in the Formula E test. Okay, thank you so much. That's impressive. That's very impressive. Very impressive. So again, um the the leader in the leadership category, and for good reason, I think she is still driving um in like the Porsche Korea Cup series, it sounds like.

SPEAKER_01

And now Rachel can sleep tonight.

SPEAKER_00

And now I can sleep tonight. Thank you. Thanks for letting me go on that tangent.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so okay, back to Monaco again. And then we will move on from Monaco.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna say maybe not from Monaco.

SPEAKER_01

So, Charles, as we all saw, if you watched the race or any highlights, was like, I am not taking the blame for this once he crashed out and he blamed his brakes. And apparently he was just talking about his brakes. If you watched his onboard, we did not watch Charles' onboard, but I heard from I think it was The Race, the website The Race. They had like a little YouTube video. Um, but they were talking about they watched his onboard and it was like brakes, brakes, brakes, brakes, brakes. He was using Brembo brand for his brakes, which Brembo brand supplies not just brakes, but like components of brakes. So most every most every team uses some some part of the Brembo braking system. Correct. Maybe okay. Yes. Um, as far as like how much or what, I don't know the specifics. But he basically was like, I gotta switch something up, and he did for the race today, so for Barcelona, switch over to Lewis's brakes, the same ones Lewis has, which are carbon industries. Got it, which is a different brand. But Brembo was like, what the heck? Like, I think the word was astonished. They were astonished that Charles aghast. Yes, they were so gobsmacked. Gobsmacked. And what what the deal was, because I was like, why would they be so surprised? This makes no sense. Apparently, it's not that the brakes were necessarily faulty, it's the relationship between the brakes and the chassis.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So the article that I was reading, or a couple of the articles I was reading, were not blaming Ferrari, but basically saying this could be a design flaw from Ferrari with the brakes.

SPEAKER_00

It's not like Brembo's brakes.

SPEAKER_01

Correct. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So Brembo.

SPEAKER_01

Chill, you're good.

SPEAKER_00

This seems like the equivalent to me of Charles having maybe a little like mental breakdown and then getting a drastic haircut. Or like getting my brain.

SPEAKER_01

I'm changing my brakes. I'm coloring my I'm dyeing my hair. I'm growing my mustache.

SPEAKER_00

This is like, yeah, when girls are having crash outs, they get bangs. We get bangs. F1 drivers change their brakes. We cut our hair. Um, yeah. F1 drivers change their brakes. I love this. Um, but yeah, that's maybe Charles needs to get his mom in for a haircut as well.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and what's sad is he obviously, I don't know if that helped him to spoiler alert.

SPEAKER_00

Charles crashed out of the race. Yeah. Um, so anyway, I get it. He's trying to control what he can control.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, try it, try a new break. I'm I'm all for good get the bangs. Get the bangs. Get the bangs. We will not tell you no unless unless it'll really look bad. I'm not gonna lie to you, but you know.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, uh I feel like he's doing good with his hairstyle. Just keep doing what you're doing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, just keep doing what you're doing. You'll be fine. Okay, sorry. Now Kim Kimmy Towel. The best drama I've seen on social media. It it equals to me the Germans coming to the US for the World Cup. Have you seen all of that? No, I haven't. Oh my god, it's so funny. There's this one guy, I don't remember what his name is, but he's like going to Waffle House, going to Bucky's. He keeps like talking about all of the places he's going to the US, and he's having it seems like a great time. This Kimmy Kim Tau drama is up there for me.

SPEAKER_00

I love this because I just teams leaning in. Yeah, leaning into quote unquote drama. And Kimmy, like a like leaning in in general. Well, so last week we mentioned Kim took Kimmy's towel. It was a hot, it was hot in Monaco. She and she doesn't know. She doesn't know she doesn't know. She could have thought that was anybody's towel.

SPEAKER_01

No, it was on a clearly on like a and there were people around it.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah anyway, besides the point, but obviously someone saw that and they wrapped up an embroidered towel that said from Kim to Kimmy in like a pink bow.

SPEAKER_01

Well, before that, even there were the videos of like where's my towel? Yeah, Kimmy was like dunking his head in water, and he's like, Has anyone seen my towel? And then that's George. Yeah, George. George was not into it.

SPEAKER_00

George, George, like, you don't need me to do this.

SPEAKER_01

He participated, bless his heart. But you know, but yeah, there were like multiple videos, and then they did, they wrapped up a towel.

SPEAKER_00

And then did you see the video of Kimmy being like, is this actually from Kim? Yeah. And they're like, Yes. Yeah, yeah. Which who knows?

SPEAKER_01

But I love to think that it is. Me too. Because I'm gonna think that it is. My conspiracy, well, not just mine. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Everyone's everyone. Yeah. I'm on board with this.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that the Kardashian curse has transferred via towel. Correct. Correct. So I don't know. Maybe, I mean, thank God Kimmy has such a lead.

SPEAKER_00

Lewis has literally washed his hands and dried them.

SPEAKER_01

When Nico Rossberg was like, what's the success? If Lewis had said, I washed and dried my hands of the situation, I would have literally passed away.

unknown

I am dying.

SPEAKER_00

I will say Susan was also all over this. She's like, Did you see the Kim Kimmy towel?

SPEAKER_01

Susan! I was like, Yes, I did. And wait, has you heard from her yet? I need to know. I need to know her thoughts on this race.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'll I'll text while we're we're in this and see. I doubt that she's watched it, but oh, that's weird. Why did her email pop up? Oh, because I typed in Susan.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, is she is she emailing you? Um so anyway, that was bringing up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that was that was it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's been great. Thank you, Kim. Um, my other, my other thing, I gotta rip on my parents because like my again, episode, I don't know, three or four that I've joked on my parents until they actually listen to my podcast. Well, mom, I Dana, you're listening. Thank you for supporting us.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks, Dana.

SPEAKER_01

But P Tom, here we go. He I think that he is only into Lewis because Kim is an American. So he's giving himself like a little pass that he can support Lewis because Checo's not doing well. Because of course I got a text during the race today, which we'll get into this. Well, probably not, because it's such a non-thing. Why would we even talk about this? No. Checo gets P14. He got P14 because seven people DNF'd. So anyway.

SPEAKER_00

Which we honestly kind of thought was going to happen. That your dad was gonna say that. Yeah. God bless. I mean, I understand. That is exciting.

SPEAKER_01

This is also, I don't think I even told you this while we were watching it. This is actually really cute. Like, shout out to Dana really putting in the work. She got up at 7:30 Eastern Standard Time and watched all of the coverage before the race, not realizing that the race started at all.

SPEAKER_00

I told you yesterday. I was like on F1 TV, it lists the coverage time and not the race time. So then you think that it starts and then you're like stuck with like Yes. Which pre-race coverage is crazy. Oh, it's very informative.

SPEAKER_01

Very informative. But I but Dana probably knows more about the lore and drama behind Barcelona than we do. So anyway, that's my that's my little ripping on my parents section.

SPEAKER_00

I love it. Um, you should take this one.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So we I can explain my like seven degrees of Taylor Swift situation. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we have we have a we have some theories, and it all obviously goes back to Taylor Swift and yogurt. Um we posted a reel is Lando okay. I think Lando is okay after this race.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, he's fine. He's fine.

SPEAKER_01

But we saw him in Monaco with some girlies, with Alex Earl, with other girlies, and Stasi. Stassi. Stasy. Stassi. Thank you for correcting me. Friends of Kylie Jenner. But if you know, you know. What's great about all of this is the girl, we have a new friend who will he wants to stay private. So like we we will keep her, you know, secret identity. But she was in Monaco and she was also in Barcelona, and she's the one that took the pictures. So I randomly found this picture on Google, put it in our reel, she saw it and messaged us, and she was in Barcelona, so she's hot on the scene to see if we'll see. We will see Lando with the girlies in the in the paddock. So stay tuned for that, and thank you to our new friend.

SPEAKER_00

She just was uh crazy that her photo she saw. Yeah, she was like, I cannot believe it. And I was like sent photo.

SPEAKER_01

I know, I know. But we we're we're you know, we want to know what Lando's doing and if he's okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It seemed like he was having fun. Alex Earl seems like a great time.

SPEAKER_01

So Yeah, we love it.

SPEAKER_00

Congrats on him. But I was like, in my like crazy brain, I was like, okay, Lando was with Stasi, who is friends with Kylie. Nick's won yesterday. Nixon five. Shout out. Yeah. Um, Kylie hugged Taylor at a previous Knicks game. Taylor's engaged to Travis, who has a stake in Alpine and knows Pierre, and then Pierre got P3 in Monaco, where Lando won last year and Lando got P3 today. That's why I'm yes, that's where my brain was. So there we make entirely that much sense. But I was like, No, it does. We brought it all back around. Like 360 degrees of Lando.

SPEAKER_01

The only thing that's missing from this equation is Danny Rick. That's the only thing. But he wasn't around. He did he did post something about he's going to some race. I don't even remember, it was carding or something. Oh, he's going to some race.

SPEAKER_00

Because he has his own Daniel Ricardo racing series. Yes, he's going to be present. Those lucky, but kids.

SPEAKER_01

Not relevant to this. No. But yeah, you you made it all happen.

SPEAKER_00

In my crazy pop culture sports brain. I mean, there's been a lot going on. So much with soccer and the Knicks. The World Cup, the Knicks, everything. Taylor Swift. Taylor and the toys.

SPEAKER_01

She had the Toy Story and then the songwriter, and she like literally was making a sob.

SPEAKER_00

There's and again, oh my god, and Travis Kelsey. And Travis Kelsey, yeah. You guys, that there's I my favorite thing, and if we have a Patreon one day, I think we can cover just sports and pop culture in general. But my brain has been firing on all cylinders in the most exciting way because of all the crossovers of the pop culture of the celeb gossip.

SPEAKER_01

That is the one like really bright spot about social media to me. Yes. That all of these things can pass over, and you can like find people who have the same crossover. Yes. Because like even the running F1, like one of the one of our fave running influencers who's such a cutie. Oh, I can't remember her full name, but Jenna. Jenna. She was like, hey, where can I watch F1 race in New York? And we were like, oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Yeah. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Um anyway, we love it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, so plugging my other favorite podcasts, listen to sports gossip. Yes. Podcast.

SPEAKER_01

We want to be friends with them. Charlotte and Madeline. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They've they've got Friends of the Pod. Friends of Friends of the Pod in our hearts.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe we should in reality. Maybe maybe I'll just start messaging people we like and be like, can you just listen to this and we want to be friends with you? Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

I actually would love their advice in two cents. And we can cover any F1 sports-related company.

SPEAKER_01

Because these girlies sitting right here are highly caffeinated and have no idea how to do a video webcam plus recording. We will figure it out sooner rather than later, but Jesus Christ is not what we want today. Today's not today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. We haven't even started covering the race yet. This is gonna be such a long episode, and I'm so excited about that for us. Oh my god. Okay. But last but not least, Fernando might be retiring, and he said that this might be his last Spanish grand prix. Which is wild because I feel like we were like he wants to be talking. Yeah, he wants to see his he wants to see his son watch him race.

SPEAKER_01

He wants to see his son watch him race. Yes. Okay. Which is what you said. And the other fun drama is finding Flavio here. Uh he's apparently trying to get Fernando to come to Alpine. But Franco keeps doing kind of well. I know. So again, rumor.

SPEAKER_00

Rumor.

SPEAKER_01

But they have all the old photos of Fernando with Benetton, which is kind of funny. Or Renault, I guess, technically. Yeah. Um, but yeah. Okay. So before we dive into this race, we wanted to talk a little bit about tire compounds because tires was like a huge topic for the race. Like like overall, it was like pit stops, tires, da-da-da-da-da.

SPEAKER_00

We'll breeze through tire compounds in practice, kind of breeze through qualifying. I think like we'll probably spend most of the time just conversationally talking about the race.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right. Cause I mean, there was a lot that happened, but there really wasn't lots of themes. Yes. So the tire compounds, the Perelli did make them a bit softer. So one step softer this year than they were last year. So because we were like, why is everyone like freaking out about tires? That's why. And it was hot. It was hot. Like the weather was hot. Makes sense. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Truly. So it was C2 was hard, C three medium, C4 soft.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Which were all one step softer than last year.

SPEAKER_00

Again, that's why we saw a lot of three stoppers in the race. Which honestly made it so much more fun and exciting.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, free practice, I think, would just like to shout out all of the um drivers or subdrivers that we had in Free Practice One. Yeah. I'm gonna butcher some of these names. Um, but Dino, oh my god, Beganovic was in for Hamilton at Ferrari, Cadillac, our boy, cold murder! Filling in for Perez. Um, Red Bull had Ayumu Iwasa for Hajar. McLaren had oh my god, Leonard Lernando. It was like Leonardo for Naroli for Norris. Audi had Paul Aaron for Hulkenberg, Mercedes, Frederick Vesti. Very fun name to say.

SPEAKER_01

He also was great on social media. Yeah, I didn't see anything. Okay. I was excited about him.

SPEAKER_00

Um and Williams had Luke Brownie. Brownie. Brownie Browning for Elvon. Um, I would say this makes sense to me. So you have to have four free practice sessions a year that you there's another driver like testing out your car or filling in. And I think that most people do Barcelona because they do testing, preseason testing in Barcelona. They like drivers are really familiar with the track. So if they pull them out of the car, it doesn't make that much of a difference. Um, but I I think free practice. Um Luke Browning actually did not like what a bummer. There was an electrical issue with the car, so he he didn't even get to like put in any laps. Which team was he in for? Um Williams. Oh yes, oh yeah, for Alex. Yeah. I don't know if there were too many like great, great standouts. Um, I think maybe someone finished in the top five. Um that's exactly one of the rookies, if you will. I can't remember who that was. Um, but I guess to Gabby's engineer, calling him Lisa was so funny.

SPEAKER_01

I loved that.

SPEAKER_00

I think I heard somewhere that Lisa's maybe on the strategy team and he just was talking in the wrong radio. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but Gabby was like, I'm Gabriel, I'm Gabrielle.

SPEAKER_00

I'm Gabrielle. Um, so shout out to Lisa. Um FP1, George, Oscar, and Charles. Honestly, a theme with kind of these three popping up pretty consistently um throughout the weekend. FP2, really nothing of note. Norris was first, George second, Oscar third, and then FP3, Russell, Oscar LeClaire. So again, the same combo of drivers. Yeah. Kind of floating around. Suspects. I also didn't realize that 2016 um that was Max's Red Bull debut at this track and he won.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we talked about that last episode. Because of the Brosades crash out happened, and then Max was able to win. Oh. Yeah. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. It's all coming back to me now. Yes. Makes sense. Oh, no wonder Nico was here. Exactly. That's why it was incredible that Nico was there. It was so funny. Anything from you for free practice?

SPEAKER_01

No, I literally did not watch. I have my one note is Lando was fastest in FP2.

SPEAKER_00

Love to see it.

SPEAKER_01

I was uh stuck in uh western Texas.

SPEAKER_00

Woo! Did you ever make it to Bucky's?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I actually didn't because I totally forgot there was Bucky's there. That's okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That one German is going for you, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I'm gonna go Germany.

SPEAKER_01

I'll make it next time I'm in Texas next month. It'll be fine.

SPEAKER_00

I want some of those, what do they call it? Like Bucky's nuggets.

SPEAKER_01

I'll bring you some nuggets.

SPEAKER_00

I'll bring you some nugs back.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I felt so silly. I got gas at like, I don't know, loves or something, and then was driving to the airport. It's right by the airport. I was like, fuck.

SPEAKER_00

No, you forgot cooking that day.

SPEAKER_01

Forgot. Okay, quality though, was pretty uneventful overall until it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty uneventful. Like it like quality always is. Uh out in Q1, Ocon, Albon, Perez, Botas, Stroll, and Alonzo. And I just said anyone with a sacking rumor keeps uh getting out in the bottom six.

SPEAKER_01

I know it's always kind of the same usual suspects. Except Ocon. That was interesting. I mean, I guess he hasn't always gotten out in that's true.

SPEAKER_00

No, that kind of rotates through, but it's pretty consistently Cadillac and Aston. Yeah. Which is Martin, you know. Um Q2. Yeah, again, like, not too much to know.

SPEAKER_01

No, the only thing that I remember and was like, what the heck is going on? Because Nico kept setting really quick laps and then getting them deleted. So he had a checkered flab for track limits, and then the other one, I don't remember what happened, but it was like two times around his lap time wasn't able to sustain.

SPEAKER_00

Handsome Hulkenberg couldn't pull it together.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, poor Ben. Poor Ben.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if that's his favorite driver, but it is to me now. Um, I thought it was interesting too, again, because the softer compound tires and the hot weather that normally they've been doing lately, like one push lap and then like another lap, and they only did one lap. Yeah, that I don't remember.

SPEAKER_01

I don't remember which driver, but he was like, it might have been Lewis actually when they when they were done, but he was like, it those tires last one lap.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, What? I can't remember. There was like something crazy about how fast they were degrading, and it was like wild. Like you're losing over 50% of your tire. Not that much. Maybe it was like a third of your tire on each other. Which is a lot of tires.

SPEAKER_01

Q2, George Russell was the fastest. And then we had Arvid out, which was really sad. I was sad about that. Gabby out, Franco out, all the boys. Pierre was out, Ollie was out, and Carlos was out. So that was, you know.

SPEAKER_00

I think we saw Flavio here, because I have Flavio in all caps. And I have Alpina Fall from Grace this weekend, which is not true. They actually ended up doing pretty good. Pretty well. Oh, and Lance outqualified Alonzo. Yes. First time 42 news. Oh, and we put this on our social media, but Nate Saunders, a very well-regarded F1 journalist, interviewed Lance and he was pretty much like, I don't give a shit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Lance just doesn't care at all. And I think we knew that, but we like suspected it. Now it's like confirmed. I just couldn't believe it. Like, just put it on for like a minute. Just two percent.

SPEAKER_00

And like, if you don't care, that's fine. Like, if you're trying to be nonchalant about it, but like it I understand maybe trying to get non be nonchalant about it and not get too excited. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But like, come on, dude. And also, if you're tired of losing, stop driving. There's other people. We just listed all those FP1 guys that would love love Yuki. Jack doin doin' doing doing.

SPEAKER_00

It's just crazy because I'm like, again, after breaking both of his wrists, he really came back and like was doing well. Like, I don't know. That's a sign of a man that like cares and wants to be an F1, unless Daddy Lawrence forced him to. Like, allegedly conspiracy. Anyway, we can move on from Lance Stroll. But yeah, ridiculous. I don't know. Love trolleys. For the strollies out there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, strollies were still waiting for you guys to come tell us what's uh woodwork. But you know.

SPEAKER_00

Um Q3. Things got excited.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, Rachel and I were not watching it together, but we were like voice noting each other and we were like, this is boring. Like, we need something to happen.

SPEAKER_00

We were literally texting minutes before that we need an agent of chaos.

SPEAKER_01

And our agent of chaos was not who we wanted. We thought it was gonna be a Liam or like Osama Ben Russell. Like we were like, no, Charlotte Claire, out.

SPEAKER_00

Turn four took him out. Apparently, he had more like torque than grip. I like he just did not have any grip and entirely just spun out. And I guess it's like unusual to crash in the corner that he did.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, which is cra I mean, it looked crazy, but yeah, that happened, and then there was a red flag. And then John got up and he he was biting his nail. Did you notice he was biting his nails like the whole race? No, I didn't. He was biting his nails like that last qualifying.

SPEAKER_00

Now he's like, I can see him keeping busy doing yard working. He's doing yard work out there.

SPEAKER_01

But he he was like, I don't want to stress myself out watching George. He'll get P1, and then he left and went outside to do yard work. And I was like, oh my god. And that's when it got crazy.

SPEAKER_00

I totally understand that mentality. I'm kind of the same way. I usually like end up getting on my phone or something. Yeah. But yeah, I'm like, I can't pay fully attention because I just I'm so nervous. Yeah, he was nervous.

SPEAKER_01

So then, so then chaos ensued.

SPEAKER_00

And I guess I guess they did say that it was better for um the front for Charles to crash into the front because it can like it's minimizer pair and there's less of a chance of ruining the gearbox. Um, at this point, too, DC said that he has a man crush on Charles.

SPEAKER_01

Which he always is talking, he's always talking about how beautiful Charles's eyes are when they show him in the cockpit with like the little the little minute. Yeah, we we got Ben loving Hulkenberg, DC loving Charles. I mean, he is a pretty man. But yeah, so I mean, then it was like everyone was outpacing everyone, and who was actually going to get poll, you know, like that kind of vibe at the end of quality.

SPEAKER_00

It was like Russell and then Antonelli, but then Lulu went and then separated the Mercedes. Max was in there for a minute, and then George was not Georging with his P1 celebration.

SPEAKER_01

So George got poll. Yep. And then it was Lulu and then Kimmy. So we were all like, oh, this is the first time Kimmy hasn't been on the front row. Um we were, I was like, I text I texted Rachel and I was like, I can't wait to see what George says. Is he gonna do a yabba dabba-doo? Is he gonna do like a weird dad joke? He not a whoop job. He just said, Congrats, good job, and that was it. It was like very calm.

SPEAKER_00

Which I get like not trying to he's had so many devastating crashes and events and things happen to him. So I wouldn't want to get too excited.

SPEAKER_01

He was probably like, hopefully, I don't have a penalty or something. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Surprise penalty. Um, but yeah, I I think that's pretty much all that I had.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, starting grid. I'll give like just the top five here. George Russell, Lulu, Hammy, Kimmy, then Lando, then Max. So I was like, oh thank god.

SPEAKER_00

I don't have to deal with like a good dad top five for the uh households of Lexi and Rachel. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Like our personal households, great. Because Ben likes Max. Yeah. So we were good. But yeah, Charlotte Claire, he was P10.

SPEAKER_00

Um yeah, he didn't even complete a lap time or no.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um everything was surprisingly okay. Oh, the race. Everything was surprisingly okay through lap one. I think Max did pass Oscar, like straight away, and then Isaac tumbled down.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he had a horrible start to like 14th. Horrible start. Yeah. He and he had I don't I didn't see who won driver of the day. I'm sure it was Lewis. Oh, yeah. But honestly, Isaac had a great race. Like he tumbled down. He ended up ending, where did he end? Like P hold on, I have the results somewhere.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Lulu won driver of the day. Oh that's no surprise. That makes sense to me. That makes a ton of sense.

SPEAKER_01

Hadjar ended P6. He was like really cruising.

SPEAKER_00

He was so impressed with him today.

SPEAKER_01

We didn't hear any of his radios, like we said, so that was like a good one. I think he was just like in the zone. Yeah, but no, he was definitely did a great job.

SPEAKER_00

Great job. And I I now understand probably George's mental state because the announcers over um or the commentators were just saying like a must-win GP for George.

SPEAKER_01

Which it kind of was, but because Kimmy didn't finish.

SPEAKER_00

So it was fine that he didn't, like, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He still got more points than Kimmy did. Outperformed and it was such a fun race. Obviously, we like we said, one of the themes was just tires in general and the pit stops. So we had I started being like, oh, they're starting to pit, and I started like typing in notes. It was so many pit stops. Oh, so many and they were so exciting to watch. Um, oh, Racing Bulls had the the six-second pit stop. Okay, that's the slow one. But most of the most of the teams, it was like two point.

SPEAKER_00

I'm seeing a lot of 2.2, 2.5, 3.6.

SPEAKER_01

They said McLaren had the quickest. It was Lando's 2.2.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but yeah, it was like pit stop, pit stop, pit stop. Unfortunately, there were a lot of DNF, so like Valtry had to retire. The car the car.

SPEAKER_00

I think Lance was the first retirement. Um and then Valtry. Oh, on lap six. Lance out with a gearbox problem.

SPEAKER_01

It was Lance, then Valtry, then Nico, then Fernando.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

And then did Alex have to retire? Well, I'm not really sure what happened with him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Because he was like driving, but it was weird. He on the timing board was he was in P in the middle of DNF'd cars. Yes. But he wasn't so I don't know if like Alonzo in that one race where they were just putting him in and out. Yeah, to like test.

SPEAKER_01

We can maybe try to And then I don't remember, I do not remember Ollie DNFing.

SPEAKER_00

I don't either. That is what I'm saying. He DNF passed me by.

SPEAKER_01

And then Kimmy.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Which he like went, he was kind of battling with George.

SPEAKER_00

That was okay.

SPEAKER_01

And I say kind of only because he seemed to be going so much quicker than George was, but wasn't catching him, and it was odd. And George just kept getting slower and slower. Yeah. And Kimmy was getting faster and faster. And then it was like all of a sudden Kimmy did overtake George, but then went off into the gravel. And then he had something hanging off of his front wing.

SPEAKER_00

Not sure what happened there, but yeah, I think this is we can talk about Kimmy. Yeah, we can talk about Kimmy. My favorite topic.

SPEAKER_01

We can talk about Kimmy and then we can talk about Charles.

SPEAKER_00

Again, we talk about this all the time. Kimmy is so incredibly talented. Raw pace, he obviously has it. I think this was an instance where again we're kind of seeing just how he just needs more race experience.

SPEAKER_01

I think he got himself freaked out that he wasn't in P1.

SPEAKER_00

Agreed.

SPEAKER_01

And he kept going off tracking.

SPEAKER_00

And at one point, McLaren over the radio um was like telling, was telling Lando, like, hey, like we see that Kimmy is outside, all four wheels are outside the line. Like we've filed a complaint with the FIA. I don't think anything ever came of that. I thought we I swear he saw him at one point all three wheels.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and it wouldn't have mattered anyway because he ended up DND'd.

SPEAKER_00

Which again, it just sounds like his it wasn't a lot of time. Yeah, his car, his car just stopped. Kind of similar to what happened to George in Canada. Which again, bound to happen with new regulations.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, the coverage was crazy though. It was like when Lulu finally got up into P1 and started sailing away, they just kept showing Lulu alone on the track and then didn't give us any timing.

SPEAKER_00

No, yeah, no timing to see like how far Lewis was ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we were like anyone else was like we were like, can we see anyone else? Like I know there's other people.

SPEAKER_00

Because there were lots of battles like kind of happening. What happened to Ollie? Not as many as Monaco, it felt like, but like, but there were existence battles, but people were passing.

SPEAKER_01

And it was a track where you could pass, so it was more it was more beneficial to see more of what was.

SPEAKER_00

And it did feel like we were getting genuinely great racing passes.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it was throughout much more exciting than very exciting.

SPEAKER_00

And I feel like despite, yeah, so McLaren reported Kimmy to the FA round like lap 53, and then I d we still don't know what happened to Kimmy's wing, but he broke down on lap 63, which caused a virtual safety car. But at the same time, Agent of Chaos, yeah, Charles Leclerc was also off the track. Yes, like right after Kimmy. And ended up also, so that was like, I think, and then the virtual safety car ended on like lap 65.

SPEAKER_01

We thought we were gonna end the race on the VSE.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, John had asked, can you end a race on a virtual safety car? Yeah, and so we got one lap.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we were like, we were like, this could be a situation where that happens, um, and it didn't, but uh yeah, it was it was wild.

SPEAKER_00

I just think again, too, um I love Bono. Yeah. And I will say, if Kimmy does win this season, like we cannot deny Bono's talent. No. Like if you had Kimmy and Lewis as your drivers, like under your belt for your career, oh my god, I want to know what Bono's career pathing is, honestly. Maybe we'll have to do a deep dive into Bono.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe we should.

SPEAKER_00

I would love that.

SPEAKER_01

Please. Um, okay, so yeah, race results, the podium was Lewis Hammy, which was really exciting. Obviously, his first win with Ferrari, his first win since 2024. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

2024 Belgium GP was Lulu's last win.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yep. Lulu's last win, and this was his first one with Ferrari. So obviously the Ferrari fans were going fucking crazy. The podium was really exciting. The cooldown room was great. George Russell, the Duchess, did end in P2. Yep. Which was exciting. I do think there was something weird happening at the end of the race where he just seemed to be going so much slower than everyone around him. Yeah. And had such a big luckily, every luckily for him, everything was pretty spread out. But I did think Lando was maybe gonna get him there at the end. But Lando also was on older tires, so then it was just like, you know, and then the virtual safety car. Lando Norris, P3. So when Kimmy got out, obviously there was chaos in our house. John, as a Mercedes fan, was like really upset about Kimmy. But I know I feel bad. I didn't mean to hoot and holler, but like I'm excited because of George Russell. I was excited because of Lando.

SPEAKER_00

I think George Russell and George Russell fans will not be satisfied until he wins the race, which I fully understand. It looked like George had been crying or was gonna cry during the post-race interviews on the podium.

SPEAKER_01

Has not won a race this season. I know. And we are happy to be in P4. Yeah, I know. I was telling Rachel, I was like, you know, I want Max to win. Like I got my Max Smirch on today.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's why there's a sense of calm amongst even Lando Norris, amongst Max Verstappen, even Lewis Hamilton fans, of these them not winning as consistently in the last however many years. It's because they have proven themselves already.

SPEAKER_01

So what you're saying is we need to be checking on the Oscar fans, the George Russell fans, the Charles Leplayer fans. 100%. Yeah. Well, all of you, we are here to help in any way we can in any way we can.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. An all-British podium. First time that's happened since 1968. I don't know if you said that already. No, I did not. So, but yeah, that was that was very fun. That's exciting. Um, Fred looked thrilled.

SPEAKER_01

Fred, I hope, is smoking all the cigarettes and drinking all the wine right now.

SPEAKER_00

Having the time of his time of his life, 58-year-old life. Yes. Um prime. Oh, George was sweet. He was like, I'm pleased to see the Lewis I remember, which also kind of felt like a dig. I know.

SPEAKER_01

It's such a George Russell thing to say.

SPEAKER_00

It's just like his tone, and I don't think he made it that way.

SPEAKER_01

Duchessed himself there.

SPEAKER_00

I and then Lexi was like, George is so pretty. And then we're like, pretty podium.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a beautiful podium. Like Lulu with his new American eyelashes. I took care of the men. Um but we're ejectifying them for sure. George Russell's eyelashes, like it did kind of look like that. I think it's like an eyelash heavy podium. Oh my goodness. Yeah, and Lando just looked so cute. He's such a cutie.

SPEAKER_00

He also looked like he had some redness around his eyes. I think that was just, I was like, Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The cool also the cooldown room, I really wish we'd been able to hear them more because it did. Rachel kept being like, Why does it sound like they're underwater? And it did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then they kept cutting them out. I wasn't sure if one of them was swearing. Lulu like messing with his hair because it wasn't in his braids. Yeah. And he was like having to put on his like his little do rag. Yeah. Gotta protect the girls. I know.

SPEAKER_01

That was that was just so sweet. Um the hair routine. It was like, it was, yeah, dropped the hair routine. It was just really like good feels on the podium. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

We didn't talk about Nico Rosberg hosting the podium.

SPEAKER_01

Oh God, how could we forget the most important part of the race? Yeah, it was great. Um, Nico Rosberg interviewed Lulu. And my family, who is new to F1, did not know the T on this. So I'm gonna very briefly give the T. So they were childhood friends in carding who were on the same team at Mercedes. So if you've heard of Bro Sadies, like they were BFFs. BFFs. We were talking about it last when we were last uh episode when we were talking about the Barcelona Grand Prix, because as Rachel just said in 2016, that was Max's first win because they hit each other and took each other out. So they grew up racing together, ended up as teammates at Mercedes, spent four years fighting for championships in the fastest car on the grid. So it was like Mercedes, Mercedes, Mercedes, but Lewis kept winning. So then basically, Nico, full blown Mercedes. Mind games. Like apparently would listen to Lewis's radios to try to get inside his mind when his car wasn't working. Like truly psychopathic, insane things were happening.

SPEAKER_00

I think, wasn't this right that it's like he was putting so much time and energy into mentally messing with Lewis, his own mental like sports psychology and just like general physical maintenance upkeep training, that he won the world championship and then retired iconic.

SPEAKER_01

Like five days, it was like five days after he won the World Drivers Championship. Something insane. So the fact that every time he is on that grid interviewing, he gets asked about Lewis, or now that Lewis is, so to say, back, I mean, not like he ever went anywhere, but like today, he we were we laughed. We were like, is Nico gonna be the one to interview him? And I just need to say, Nico won by five points.

SPEAKER_00

I just looked that up. I did not know that. Insane. Guess who was in third?

SPEAKER_01

Who?

SPEAKER_00

Daniel Records.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god, Jesus Christ. There's our Daniel Cardinal. There's our Daniel. Yeah, there we go. Um, but yeah, so that's the T with Nico and Lewis. So today on the podium, when Nico was like, What's what's got you back? And Lewis kind of like ignored the question and just like talked. We were giddy. We were having the best time. I was like, this is insane.

SPEAKER_00

I was waiting for something to happen. They're both professional. They're, I think, I don't know if anyone's over it, but they're at least seem to be cordial.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, Nico Rossberg looks like a crazy person.

SPEAKER_00

He's an speaking of agents of chaos. That man is an agent of chaos. Nico.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, that's that. Um, anything else for the race? I know we like to vibe-checked it. I which I think is fine.

SPEAKER_00

Best race so far of the year. I don't know if that is uh swinging that way. Because again, the who the lander northeast of it all. And Kimmy crashing out. Um sorry to Kimmy fans. He's fine. He's gonna be fine.

SPEAKER_01

He will be fine. He's still so uh so we're never gonna do it.

SPEAKER_00

Is Kimmy okay? No, he's always okay. He's always okay.

SPEAKER_01

And if he's not, his family's got him. Okay, so World Drivers Championship standings have obviously drastically changed because of the chaos of Monaco aftermath, and then today. So constructors Mercedes is crushing it. Still Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Alpine, Racing Bulls, Haas, Williams, Audi, Aston Martin with one point, and Cadillac's the only team on the grid with zero. Pomp. Yeah, we'll see if that changes at any point. And then our World Drivers Championship. Here we have Kimmy at 156 points. He got no points today. Lulu is in P2 at 115. So now we're a 41 point gap. Which Max came back from 42.

SPEAKER_00

Let me see what the George. So George is 106. George is 106. 50 point gap. Yeah. So he, you know. I just did that math on my calculator. I did not need to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Love it. Um, Charles, 75, Lando 73, Oscar 68, Max is still in P7 at 55. Pierre, 41, Isaac, 34, and then Liam 26, which rounds out our 10, our top 10. So that's where we're sitting with that. So Kimmy's still like truly at this point still sailing away.

SPEAKER_00

Still crushing. We'll see what happens. Yeah. But I guess this is just today's race. Reminder anything can happen.

SPEAKER_01

Anything can happen. Truly. And we have so many more races to go. Stay hopeful. We do not have a race next weekend. We'll still drop an episode. As always. Um, and then we have uh Austria on June 28th. So Maxie's home race. Can't wait. Red Bull's home race. Red Bull's home race. Yeah. Um, so that'll be exciting.

SPEAKER_00

And then our Formula Run Club. Formula Run Club. You guys freaking club.

SPEAKER_01

We did so great. Crush. We did so great. Um, Rachel had Arvid and P10. Guess where Arvid finished? Yeah, freaking P10. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No mileage and thank God.

SPEAKER_01

Thank God.

SPEAKER_00

Um we'll circle back to that.

SPEAKER_01

And then I had Oscar at P5 and he ended P5. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So zero points zero miles for me. Hell yeah. Um, we're not sure where Lexi stands. I only ran one mile last week out of my 16. And so we are now, because I didn't finish before my mileage before the next race, I'm getting a penalty point. So now I have to run 16 miles before the next race.

SPEAKER_01

Which now you have two weeks. So thank God.

SPEAKER_00

And I don't have any added mileage. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So that's why. I think I did my because I had to run, I think, was it four or six? Either way, I did six miles.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I think you're fine. It was at least six.

SPEAKER_01

It was at least six. I can't remember if it was four or six, but I did my mileage. Um I can double check. And now I don't have extra Formula Run Club. Oh, you needed to run nine miles. Dang it. So I also get a penalty. So you have to run four. Okay, okay, okay. All right, all right. Well, never, never mind. We'll do our penalty runs.

SPEAKER_00

It's well, now it's marathon training week, so it the miles will get done easier. We've got two weeks. So I think that is there anything else?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, probably, but at this point, I do think we have done our time. And this has been fun. It was a great race. I am very excited for Austria. I'm excited that we have like a teensy break, like a very appropriate little break, and then we're back at it. Yeah, and we might have a little special guest next week.

SPEAKER_00

I think we're good. I hope you guys had as much fun as we did today. We will maybe check in on some of our faves. Our fave drivers and see if they're doing okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and thank you for following along. Please continue to like, comment, subscribe, break the pod, share this with your friends. Yeah, we love talking about F1. So if you also like talking about F1, continue to send the messages. Super fun to hear everyone's like favorite teams and where you are. It's been great. We love it.

SPEAKER_00

We love it. Hope you all have a great rest of your day, and we will see you on Sunday.
