Well hi welcome to On Sundays Wee a Formula One podcast. I'm Rachel. I'm Lexi. This hi. This is the first time we're recording and we did not watch the race together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was actually really sad. We didn't even watch anything. Well, we did watch the race real time.
SPEAKER_02We did, yes. We were texting exclamation points and words back in the world.
SPEAKER_01We were trying not to, we were like, let's not commentate on the race with each other and then see how it goes when we pod, but we couldn't help ourselves. There was just I was freaking out.
SPEAKER_02There was so much that happened, and I won't lie, I was like, based off of the sprint and everything, I was like, this is not gonna be that exciting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was like, I was like watching it with my in-laws, they don't watch F1, no one knows anything about F1, so I was like, this will be chill. Oh my god, no, so many questions.
SPEAKER_02So many questions, so many things happened, and a lot to I feel like our favorite drivers or drivers we care about. Yes, yes, it was. I know, I know the Max versus Happening. We'll get into it.
SPEAKER_01We'll get into it. But yes, this is on Sundays We talk about racing and we talk about the drama and we try to get a little technical and sort of know what's going on, but we don't make it too serious.
SPEAKER_02But we're learning every day. Yeah so we'll talk F1 News, Hawk Us, and then we'll get into the legendary Silverstone Circuit and Formula Run Club. Formula Run Club, which again, another solid week for Formula Run Club. Yeah, good job, us. Good job, us, or the season's just that predictable so far. I don't know. Well, yeah, or but it's not, but it's but it kind of is.
SPEAKER_01Oh, McLaren had a piece of their card fall off. Oh, Max ran into a wall. Oh, Ferrari sort of did okay.
SPEAKER_02Lance and Checo got penalties, even though they're in 2015.
SPEAKER_01I mean, one thing that did surprise me, which thank God, because they had their crazy USA liveries, and it was July 4th. Happy July 4th, all the Americans.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, happy independence. But Cadillac finished the race.
SPEAKER_01They did it. Happy 250, America. So that was fun. Um, okay, well, yeah, we I mean we can get right into it. Um, in other news, Taylor Swift got married this weekend too.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, which we don't need to spend that much time on, but the fact that it was the British Grand Prix and so much content coming out of this weekend, which rightfully so, most of the teams are British, like half the grid, aka a fourth of the grid is British. So there was just so much, so much content.
SPEAKER_01And the worst part was Rachel worked on Friday, so legitimately was not on her phone all day. So not only did she not watch sprint quality, she didn't know that Taylor's well, you knew Taylor got made, but you hadn't seen anything.
SPEAKER_02No, I was having one of our like associates. I'm like, if anything happens, let me know. I know. I kept checking are there photos, are there photos, are there photos? I didn't want sprint quality to be ruined. I think there wasn't much to spoil for that one, but oh yeah, congrats to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. Still haven't seen any real photos, it seems like of the wedding. There's a lot of like AI-generated images. I feel like floating around. Fun to see all the celebs showing up though. Literally, did you see that there was a Graham Norton interview where she's like the most stressful part of a wedding is like creating the guest list and having to cut people?
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_02They didn't they didn't cut anyone. Oh they just were like, Well, because they had like over a thousand people.
SPEAKER_01There was crazy. Did you see all the people rolling in? I did, but I didn't put that like that number just seems so wild. Like imagining that I only had like what a hundred, like maybe a little, and it felt like there were so many people there.
SPEAKER_02It seems like despite the like thousands of people, it apparently felt very intimate, which I love.
SPEAKER_01That's impressive.
SPEAKER_02Yes, great, lots of fun outfits rolling into the venue. Um, apparently, Abigail Taylor's best friend was wearing the same dress as another girl, which is like drama. Awkward with that the dress. That was the the dress. I know. Love. It's love beautiful dress, beautiful corsetted dress, expensive.
SPEAKER_01Of course.
SPEAKER_02Of course, of course, and I was gonna say something else and I lost my train of thought. Oh, Blake Lively. Yes, wasn't there, and Ryan Ryan Reynolds, Alpine investor. Yeah, not like Travis Kelsey! Yes, no wonder that he's trying to sell off his shares. They don't want to be associated with one another anymore because they're no longer friends. That is this is all alleged. This is all alleged, but also they Blake and Ryan were very much not there, aka they were there was a photo of them somewhere else. I can't remember where.
SPEAKER_01That's a good point. I don't know. They could have been invited.
SPEAKER_02That would be even more dramatic, I think. That would make me feel better about the situation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like Taylor was like, I'm still gonna invite them. I mean, if she invited that many other people, it's not like she I mean, like Steven Spielberg was there.
unknownLike, what?
SPEAKER_02Well, and also Andy And the president of like AMC movie theaters.
SPEAKER_01I guess that makes sense. Yes, because of her, yeah, I know, but still, like would you normally invite people? And everyone was there on a holiday weekend, yes, which we all know she loves July 4th, it's her favorite, favorite holiday.
SPEAKER_02Well, and I guess too, um, her brother was her man of honor, and then Jason was which is so cute. No, that's so cute. So cute. Jason was best man. I love that for them.
SPEAKER_01No, it sounds great. Very happy.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, we spent too much time on this. We had to put that in there, you know. Now July 3rd is a national holiday. Yep. In my mind.
SPEAKER_01Wear your wedding dresses next year, everyone.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01I mean your wedding guest dresses?
SPEAKER_02Either way, that's like that episode of Friends where they all wear those wedding dresses. Maybe we just need to do that. We just need to lean into that. July 3rd. Love it. Love it.
SPEAKER_01Um, okay, so we had some fun liveries this weekend. It was obviously July 4th, so Cadillac did their fun USA. And then I need to know did your dad have anything to say about it? He said nothing. What? I thought he'd be super excited about it. He didn't even watch the race today. What? He he so my family was at they were at the beach, which is a couple hours from where they live. He drove all the way back home this morning to preach. Okay. And then he drove back and he totally missed everything. I haven't heard a peep. My mom and my sister watched. Of course they did. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Dana's now very dead.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Dana, she we'll get into the race, but she was devast uh devastated. Who's her favorite again? Kimmy. Oh. And then they call Lewis the old man, which every every time they say that, I think they're Alonzo. Yes.
SPEAKER_02That's Alonzo.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, Alonzo. It's just a fact that you are the oldest person on the grid. Yeah. Anyway. Oh boy. But this is a beautiful. I'm I'm really just diving in um for the first time. A beautiful livery. Very patriotic.
SPEAKER_01No, it it would look great on the grid. Now, McLaren, while I I first saw it and I was like, what the heck? And then I get it. I get it. Do you want to talk about it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know that much other than that it was um, I think modeled after Bruce McLaren, the founder's like first livery.
SPEAKER_01Which is which when I found that, I was like, cool, that's cool. Makes sense into that. But when it was on the track, I kept thinking that there was an Aston Martin in the mix. And it was very confusing.
SPEAKER_02I now understand there was talk a while ago about making sure that every single team had a very unique colored car. And I now understand why, because I could not tell besides seeing Lando's floral hel floro helmet that it was Lando in that car.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Oscar. I you weren't even on my radar, buddy. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_02No, but it did look very cool. The wheels are like, um, or the what do you call that? The Gemini Google logo. What is the what's the rainbow? The plates? What is that called? What are Roy B. Jiv? The hubcaps? Is that what that's called? What is this thing right here?
SPEAKER_01I think it's a hubcap in the case. I've been second-guessing myself. Well called something else.
SPEAKER_02Colored and rainbow and other things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's the Google, the Google logo. Yeah, yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, where it normally is like the Google Chrome, it's now it must be the Gemini.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and they still have the the McLaren, but it just on the track was so confusing.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, yeah, it was just hard to tell. It was hard to tell. I did like the forest green. I liked the like chromey white. It looked very music. Did you see them decorate a cake? I did see that. That was silly. That was silly. The car cake. Yeah. Lando was uh Oscar was a little more laid back when decorating the cake than I expected.
SPEAKER_01I was really into it.
SPEAKER_02Very into it, like kind of perfectionate about that.
SPEAKER_01And it, I mean, I don't know if they the cake they showed at the end was actually the cake that they put together, but it looked pretty good. Did it? Yeah. It must not have been their cake.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm just kidding. Um, but I did see that. That was funny.
SPEAKER_01Haas also had a Bon Jovi collab.
SPEAKER_02I entirely missed this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I didn't deep dive too much into it, but it seemed like it was special for Silverstone.
SPEAKER_02So I'm looking it up right now. I feel like we need to see what this looks like. Oh, okay. I think it's just on the rear wing. Yeah. Okay, cool. There we go. Oh, John Bon Jovi forever. Looks like an incredible a dagger through a heart.
SPEAKER_01Maybe Gene Haas is a really big Bon Jovi fan. I mean, I love it.
SPEAKER_02Living on a prayer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Love that for them. Um I thought it was like a whole car. It was literally a little bit of a little bit of a little bit.
SPEAKER_01No, it was just a little collab. They had a fun little social media moment with. Honestly, Haas doesn't do a lot of collabs.
SPEAKER_02Respect. You're trying. You're doing it. I love that for you.
SPEAKER_01Um, and then another actual sort of news. Um, upgrades for Silverstone. So um Mercedes, Aston Martin, Alpine, Audi, and Cadillac did not have any upgrades that they submitted for the weekend. Okay. And McLaren was like, if anyone heard Zach Brown doing his little interviews, had quite a few upgrades.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01They, I think they had they brought the most. Ferrari had some, Red Bull had a couple, and I was laughing because it was specifically the small rear wing. Oh. Oh, oh god. Okay. Yep. Um, Williams V Car Pass. So uh, you know, still little little bits of upgrades, but um, I thought it was interesting that Mercedes didn't have any.
SPEAKER_02And I think that might have showed a little bit. Not a ton, but a little bit. Also, I think when they were interviewing Ray Race um Zach during one of the races, a part that fell off was a new part of like a part that fell off the end of his car was a new part. And they're like, Do you even have any spares? He's like, Yes, we do. Yes, he was like, We have plenty of spares, like plenty of spares.
SPEAKER_01Good, good. Like the car. I think the most asked question I got this weekend was how expensive all the pieces of the cars were. And I was like, I don't know, millions. And they thought I was being dramatic, and I was like, No, I'm I'm not, I'm being serious. It's an expensive car. I mean, like a whole front wing, that's not jump change, you know.
SPEAKER_02No, so just like quick Google. Okay, here we go. Front and rear rear wings could be anywhere from 200,000 to $250,000. This is AI, but that's what the quick Google search says. And like a Formula One car costs anywhere between $15 and $20 million.
SPEAKER_01See, I was not wrong, everyone watching races with me that looked at me like I was crazy.
SPEAKER_02The chassis and the engine power unit seem to be the most expensive. Surprisingly, the steering wheel at $50,000. That's a lot, but it's like in the middle of the range.
SPEAKER_01I also thought that the steering wheels were all custom made for the driver. You know, they're like pretty customized car in the driver.
SPEAKER_02Which is why I'm like shocked that it's I mean, that's more than my car. I guess it's a smaller piece of the car.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01But still. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, so yeah. Oh, that's a great good question.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good. Lots of lots of questions about costs. Um, Lego race. So Rachel did not watch the full. We've seen lots of clips.
SPEAKER_02I'm going to watch it after this. I didn't realize it was like 30 minutes long.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we're not you're able to fast forward through some of the beginning because it's just they're like vlogging kind of vibe. So there's not like that content. Yeah, yeah. No, it's very fun. But I did watch it because I was stuck in a car for four hours today. So um, anyway, but the no the notable things to discuss here is that Lewis did not want to participate. Apparently, he was worried about the amount of media that they're asking all of the drivers to partake in, which obviously we all love. And obviously, F1 Do you think that's fair? I think that he's bringing that up. I think to an extent, yes. They obviously get paid bookhoos of money, but it does seem that there are some teams like V Carb who their drivers participate more in silly things, yeah. Like V Carb Alpine, uh, Williams, like all like they I mean McLaren does a lot too. Well, I was gonna say, I oh keep going. But do they but do they get compensated for that? Because they're the ones that have the lowest salaries, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02It is interesting, and I it's interesting that Lewis is bringing it up because I think that Lewis gets probably paid one of the highest salaries on the grid. And obviously has all these endorsements and everything, and so I find it interesting that he's bringing it up because I'm sure he is fine, you know, and he doesn't do as much. I feel like him and Charles aren't doing the same amount that Liam and Arvid are doing, and probably Arvid is paid the least amount of money.
SPEAKER_01And to your point, Lewis and Charles both have their partnerships that they do separately from FYS, which is obviously income.
SPEAKER_02Right, right. And if Lewis is bringing it up to like protect the younger generation of drivers, then I think that's sweet. I know, like what's the intention?
SPEAKER_01Because and John John, of course, is rolling his eyes about it. Oh, of course, because it was But during during the Lego race, he kind of acted like he was miserable and he was riding in a silly Lego car. And it was a the driver's parade, like they were gonna be doing the driver's parade either way, they do it every race.
SPEAKER_02Well, he seemed to have a blast last year, and again, this is I I realize it's a it's bigger than the Lego race, right? Yeah, I understand. Yeah, but you're so right. We were talking about this is like one of the things that we talked about before we started recording, and he had his headphones on.
SPEAKER_01He was like texting while he was like driving, he wasn't really um chatting with the other drivers, which he usually does, like he'll usually there were clips of him laughing, but that's about it.
SPEAKER_02I think last year, be and they sh shared a car last year, right? So like so that was out of control. Um, but yeah, I I'm not saying it's not warranted. I I do, but it is in again. I can't need another word other than interesting.
SPEAKER_01No, I think it's a good thing to bring up and have a conversation about however with the sport getting so much more popular, like even thinking about why we love it, like we love to see stuff like that, but and uh is it gonna go away?
SPEAKER_02Well, and we were saying, and I don't know if because I'm getting different things on my feed or what, but I feel like we're not getting as much of the fun, silly things this year. Like yeah, the Lando and Oscar case decorating the kitchen. Yeah, we were like, yes, lock. I was like, that's the first time we've gotten something like that in a minute.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it seems like they do a lot of things separately on their own. Like we get like Carlos's thirst traps, and we get like George and his Amafi pop up, and we have like, you know what I mean? Like Max and his watches, like it's like that sort of thing more than the silly teammate piece of it.
SPEAKER_02Like, I can't tell you last time I really saw a Hadar and Verstappen video.
SPEAKER_01Well, they were doing that practi um prank. Do you remember that a couple weeks ago? Where did you see that? I think I might have. Okay, because Max had a piece of the city. Oh my god, yes, I was telling you.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely when he was at the hotel desk. Yes, oh my god, I absolutely did. But that was like Okay, maybe they're just doing less but bigger budget things, maybe which I can appreciate.
SPEAKER_01Maybe to your point, there's so much content that we're not even getting at all because we're getting more of like the content creators' content. I don't know. Anyway, back to the actual Lego race. Yeah, the Lego race.
SPEAKER_02We might have more to say about this than the sprint race. Yeah, honestly.
SPEAKER_01And I didn't even watch it. No, this well, John was laughing because I was watching, he's like, so the podcast is gonna be mostly about the Lego race. Like the real race of the weekend because I was so sad, and then I watched the Lego race and was like giggly and happy and I was coming back to live into the deep dive. Yeah, so so Rachel didn't watch it, so I'll just like say a couple like quick things about it. Fernando Alonso officially won the race, and his quote was give me the same car as everyone else, and of course I'll win. Oh my god, shut up.
SPEAKER_02That's incredible. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Lance also looked miserable the whole time, but his quote. Oh my god, let me pull it up.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, I'm making a lot of mouth noises while you're editing this suite. Great. She's doing me a favor in a press conference. I can't remember who the third driver was, but Lando and Lance were together. And when asked about the Lego race, Lance said, I'm indifferent. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I'm not going to wake up super early in the morning excited about it. And Lando, I'm pretty excited for it, actually.
SPEAKER_01I think was it with Alex? Was he the third driver?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I can only see a gray Adidas shoe. Was it maybe George? Oh, was it Nico? I don't know. Oh, maybe. Oh, maybe it was Nico. Anyway, hilarious. I just Lance, like, let's not yuck someone else's yucky. Come on, Lance. Come on. Also, like, this is the most joyous thing to ever happen last year.
SPEAKER_01I will say Lando had a great time. Um, uh Rachel did see the clips of him and Carlos because Carlos's car got stuck in the gravel because a bunch of them tried to cut through the the track and all got stuck in the gravel. Which is hilarious. And all the Marshalls like run up to the cars to try to like get them out of the car.
SPEAKER_02I saw the video of uh the Marshalls helping Kimmy out. It was really funny.
SPEAKER_01So really sweet. It was hilarious.
SPEAKER_02Well, and apparently the way that Carlos was sitting on the car felt really similar to, I don't know the details of what happened. We can circle back, but I guess Art and Senna was driving the car, and then um Nigel, I think it was Nigel Mansell, like popped on the side of the car, like where Carlos was sitting at the Silverstone Grand Prix. So good. Back in Lord knows um what day.
SPEAKER_01Valtry, Fernando, and I think it was Was it Perez? No, it was it was Valtery at the very end, the three that like cut across. I thought it was Valtry, Ollie, and Fernando, and they were all like pushing each other and just like having a great like bumper cars, yes, and then oh my god, MBS and his go-kart just like randomly there, and he kept showing up. And I he I I thought for a minute he would start and then kind of like veer off.
SPEAKER_02Do you stay though? To be slightly fair to MBS, I did see that Stefano D'Amincali also had a go-kart and that they were both driving.
SPEAKER_01I thought that was something different when they were they were doing go-kart races because um Martin Brundle and I think it was George Russell.
SPEAKER_02Oh wait, I just have it pulled up.
SPEAKER_01Okay, we know no, no, that is him. That that's Stefano and MBS. But there's other people in the car.
SPEAKER_02So did MBS just stay in the car and out on the track?
SPEAKER_01Well, MBS was in not a Lego car, but like an actual go-kart. And he was like pushing them and like just trying to be one of the boys like he does. He just needs to stop. But yeah, he does need to stop. He's crazy. He he gave Isaac such a big when you watched the YouTube video, he get in the beginning, he get sorry. Oh my god, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02One of the dogs came in.
SPEAKER_01Rachel, Rachel and Rachel. I don't even have socks on. I'm sorry. I do at least have socks. I did just get my toes done. They look really nice. Yeah, they got all my cresties off of it. So funny. Okay, rows. Anyway, um, we haven't seen each other in a long time. So, you know. You talk about empathy important. Oh, he gave Isaac such a big hug and like embraced him. It's just so fucking weird.
SPEAKER_02Just wants to be one of the boys, one of the Drivers, and that's why he wanted to eliminate the term limits. But he just has to play it cool. He he's coming, he's trying too hard. He's kind of giving God bless George energy. Yeah, but like but works, but actually, but like I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_01What's George gonna be like when he's older, though?
SPEAKER_02Oh boy.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, think about that right now.
SPEAKER_02I hope George becomes a commentator. I can see him kind of being like a David Coulthard.
SPEAKER_01He would be such a good commentator.
SPEAKER_02I think he'd be like a David Coulthard, which I do love DC.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be fine. Okay, I love it. Um, okay, and then an actual piece of news is that the F1 said that they're going to decide on the Middle East races before the summer break. So we'll find out about that. Because we are like, how many race John's like, how many races are left? I'm like, maybe 13?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we don't know. Maybe 10.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. And then they talked about like Are we like halfway through the season? Yeah, it's almost it's almost silly season. Well, I know that because of the time, I guess. Oh my god! What we have spa and we have um hungry.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, we do. Yeah, oh my god, this is almost where you started watching last year. Yeah. Oh, that's crazy. Yeah, time flies when you're having fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yep. Um, okay. I hot gas, yep. Which is not a lot, it's kind of the same thing. I did find a really fun, I'll try to link it on our Instagram, but this came up because when I was pissed about the race, I started trolling Lance Troll on our Instagram like I do. And one of the things was that he parked just so out of his parking spot, it's so bad. So anyway, I found this this article that someone wrote, and it's basically saying that like one fun thing to look at is no this is fun. It's really fun. Um, the cars that they drive, and some of them are real they make a lot of sense, and some of them are really unexpected.
SPEAKER_02The Mercedes ones are like this bright that same blue. That same blue that they were.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that SUV of course like the G-Wagon. Yeah, it's so good.
SPEAKER_02It is, it I think it is George's, just based off of this says Kimmy by it. But yeah, Kimmy has like a little sports car version of Mercedes, and George has a G-Wagon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's good. Um Valtry rode a bike, which is kind of fun. Classic. And then Sergio has a has a Cadillac, the lyric, which looks pretty cool. Um, Pierre had a bumper sticker that says my other car is an F1 car. That's so funny.
SPEAKER_02Wait, I want one of those.
SPEAKER_01I know, even though it's not true. Yeah, I love it. Um Lulu and Charles had Ferraris that wasn't like anything that I was like. Are they the same car?
SPEAKER_02I think it looks like it's like a same SUV. Oh, yeah, like a single door SUV situation.
SPEAKER_01Charles uh pulled in and then Lewis back pulled in.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. Of course, Arvid has a Mustang and Liam has a truck.
SPEAKER_01Has a Ford, yes, he has a Ford Ranger. Oh my god, which is incredible. It's so funny to see it because like obviously I wouldn't think of those as like fancy sports cars, but like a Ford Ranger, expensive.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's like what does Daniel Ricardo drive? A Ford um Raptor.
SPEAKER_01And those are like crazy expensive. SD Bestie and Ollie Bearman had some cool cars. Ollie has like a vintage car. It's cool. It's so Ollie. I love it. And SD has like a Yaris that's like cool hot.
SPEAKER_02It's like a cool, it kind of looks like it's giving Iron Man.
SPEAKER_01Max's looks like a dad car. What is that? It's a E it's an EV Ford Explorer, and you can only get it in Europe. And then Isaac has a Ford Ranger. Okay, a fancy one, obviously.
SPEAKER_02I mean, to make it, it's just funny to see like the Mustang and the Fords at an F1. I know. But I that's that's the main sponsor.
SPEAKER_01There's Lance's horrible parking job.
SPEAKER_02Literally.
SPEAKER_01I don't yeah, those spaces are huge. And Lance couldn't even yeah, he doesn't care. He doesn't care. The Williams boys, like nothing super exciting. It was a Volvo, and then signs out of Bentley.
SPEAKER_02I love that Alex is in like a Volvo, yeah. Like a practical car.
SPEAKER_01Which that is such a nice car.
SPEAKER_02Volvos are really nice and also expensive.
SPEAKER_01Um, Lando had a jag. This is sick. And then um, we don't know if the other car is Oscar's or not. It could be Zach Brown's. That's what the guy who wrote the article said. Okay. Yeah. Jerry Perez. Nice. Thanks, Jerry. Thanks, Jerry. Anyway, honestly, though that's fun. Fun little side quest. Loved that.
SPEAKER_02Um Christian Horner in the paddock.
SPEAKER_01Um we don't really need any details. We know no details. We don't know if Jerry was there. We don't know if he was in like a paddock club. I didn't it didn't look like he was with a particular team. I half expected him to be with Flavio, but unconfirmed any of that.
SPEAKER_02I just I was just trying to Google and see if there was any anything about it. This headline says opens up about F1 future S makes his paddock.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but he had like a nice little suit on popping around.
SPEAKER_02I mean he looked yeah, he looked nice. I'm wondering if we'll find out in the next couple of days if he if if he's uh oh ultimately I'm a fan. I haven't missed one since '93, so it's good to be here.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Talking about Silverstone specifically. Yes. Sorry. I didn't specify.
SPEAKER_01That makes sense. That makes sense. Um, and then we had a surprise DJ appearance.
SPEAKER_02Literally don't know what party this was, but I kept seeing people posting about how Nicholas Latifi was DJing.
SPEAKER_01He also was bartending. What? Yeah, he had like it looks like he has his own liquor. Oh. And he like levee or something. Oh, he was like that was. Yeah, and he was that's what I assumed. I didn't look too far into that, so don't scorch me if that's wrong. But it looked like he was, you know, promoting some kind of liquor that he has. I good for him. He looked pretty good. Yeah, he looked great.
SPEAKER_02He was having a great time. You're right. Okay. Launch a mid-strength agave spirit called Leve. L-E-V-E. So after graduating from he co-founded it after graduating from London Business School.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's where John's sister's boyfriend went. Oh. And just graduated. I wonder if he knows him. Oh wait, I'm gonna text him. Get on that right now.
SPEAKER_02That's like her closest. Her closest will get fascinating. And we're back. We're waiting. We're waiting for intel. We're waiting for intel, but we can get into we're 30 minutes in.
SPEAKER_01Looking good. Looking good. Okay, so obviously jam-packed weekend because we had sprint. So we only had one free practice. And Lewis was the fastest. Yes. I didn't really make any I didn't watch free practice. So, and then um Oscar spun out. Oscar had a tough weekend.
SPEAKER_02I thought Lando spun out.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was Oscar. Oh my god. Oh, different group chat. Oh.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why I thought they were saying it was Lando, but okay. McLaren did not have a great practice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But Lewis was the fastest. Um, I I don't really have any other notes other than that. So we can move on if you would like.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I again I don't even have that many notes, I feel like, for even sprint quality. So Ollie.
SPEAKER_01So out in SQ1 was Ollie, SD Bestie, Checo, Valtrie, Fernando, and Troll. Two by two by two. Uh-huh. Alex actually, it was pretty exciting, knocked out Ollie right at the end. Um, because it was like, dang, Williams again, but they did make it. Um, Ferrari was Ferrari was quickest, Louis P1, and then Charles P2. And then Lando had a front brake duct fly off the car. Yeah. And they couldn't replace it in the moment. So Zach, they were interviewing him, and Zach was like, we'll have to see how Q2 goes, but you know, eventually they were able to repair it, not to spoiler, but yay!
SPEAKER_02Yeah. All I really took note and made note of is that I did not realize that there was the Hamilton straight.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_02Named after Lewis Hamilton. I didn't realize that either. That's cute.
SPEAKER_01He's got a part of the track named after him. I did not know all of the corners had names. Yeah. So that was kind of fun. Maggots and Beckets. Maggots and Beckets and the Wellington. That's like literally the most. So brilliant. Well, John kept laughing because they would show the crowd cheering, but they were so like so polite. Yeah. Like the crowd goes wild, and it'd be like the nice little like polite clapping.
SPEAKER_02Um, Q2, we lost um Gasly, Bordoletto, Hulkenberg, Columbito, Science and Alban. Again, like all the same teams. Again. That was kind of a theme of the weekend. Yeah, the two by two by two. Two by two by two. Um, and yeah, so Lando lost a piece of his piece of his car, like Lex said, and just less down force. So that makes sense.
SPEAKER_01So Liam was P4.
SPEAKER_02Which is he like zoomed up there. Things were scrambled kind of at the top. Yeah. But everyone was exiting in like two by two. Yeah. Which is fascinating. Oh, Russell was an eighth for a long time.
SPEAKER_01He was in he was in P10 and couldn't get a lap in and then got up to P7. Oh. So he did, he did make it, but it was like, who and Norris was 10th. Yeah. Well, we knew he wasn't that had to have been nerve-wracking. But they were able to change his front wing after SQ2. Thank God. And they were basically, this was so stressful because it was a one shot qualifying, because basically they put the softs on and they had one lap to go. Yeah. So everyone went out with only three minutes left. So I just sat there staring in the car at my little phone and my like buffer kept happening. Um, and then everyone out at one time, and it was wild. I mean, nothing really happened.
SPEAKER_02Nothing happened, but it was still a lot. So Hamilton was first, Antonelli Verstappen, LeClaire, Russell, Norris Piastri, Hajar, Lawson, and Lynn Bladford, the top 10 for the sprint. Um, I will say I did make note, I I did like Mercedes, um, the mechanics outfits. Their jerseys were cool and they're like blue Adidas.
SPEAKER_01Yes. No, I I liked the color a lot. The color was good. It's like I would totally wear that. John said the same thing. He's like, I want one of those. It was, yeah, same. Woodwear. Yeah, woodwear.
SPEAKER_02But you know, if I like it, then it's gotta be good.
SPEAKER_01Rachel liked something. What were you gonna say? Um, did you buy anything from the F1 sale? Like the F1 store had the 50 off sale this weekend.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I got a brief ad about it, but I didn't click on anything. So maybe I need to go. Did you?
SPEAKER_01I clicked, I bought my mom a birthday present. That's nice of you. Cadillac something.
SPEAKER_02Susan did ask me what I wanted for. Did you say a McLaren blender? No, but she didn't listen. She didn't listen to that episode, so that's why it got it went unnoticed.
SPEAKER_01Wait, what did you say? It was it F1 related? Well, if it's not, we don't need to talk about it on the pod.
SPEAKER_02No, but I did you say coda? That was that was my birthday present, and I don't know financially if my family will ever recover. No, I'm just kidding. Um, I'm totally kidding. Um, I do maybe want a Lando uh Floro jersey. Yay, they're so cute. I know.
SPEAKER_01You need one. Need. Need. Um okay. Sprint, right? Sprint, sprint. Alex started in the pit lane. Yeah. This is when John was laughing at the the crowd goes British loud. Oh, that's funny. Um, Max had a horrible start, so he started in P3, horrible start. And then George kind of like zoomed up. He had a really good first slap. He went from P, what where did he start? P8?
unknownP8?
SPEAKER_01And P5. P5. He zoomed up, he was in P3. Um, Lando was passing George and Max, and then Max passed George. There was a little bit of like not yo-yo racing, but it was a little bit of like background.
SPEAKER_02No, it was. I I do have that one of the themes for the weekend was battery battles. Yeah. Definitely a lot of battery battles, and you could tell. And they kept saying that this track, and I think it was very apparent in the the main race, but I think in the sprint, like where you deployed your battery and used your energy made all the difference.
SPEAKER_01Well, Max even said before the weekend he was quoted saying something like, This is gonna be a really cool.
SPEAKER_02Because it's a lot of straight straight. Yeah, yeah. So not a lot of places to recharge your battery. I thought it was interesting, and again, another theme of the weekend, Red Bull and their starts, aka not good starts. Sorry, Lex. Yeah, um, but Norris was 4.93 off the line, and Verstappen was 5.58. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Which seems like a big discrepancy. All weekend Isaac was doing better than Max. And good for him. Very happy for Red Bull to have a good second driver that like finally can kind of keep up. But like all I could hear was the Os being like, Max was not meant to be in the midfield. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Which to be fair, he's not, he is not handling it well. And I don't blame him. I think well, this is like a conversation too that we've already talked about and for another time. But my husband asked me, Had did you hear that theory about how all the F1 drivers should just be driving for different teams? So it's like if you listen to the bottom pass, we talked about it. Talked about it, and he's like, Yeah, well, obviously Max would just dominate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like, yes, of course. But apparently, so would Fernando because we saw it apparently because he won the Lego race. But yes, it was it was like a lot of battery deployment, overtaking, and then re-overtaking. So it was like lap three Lando was passing, and then Max passed, and George was just kind of like chilling, and then Lulu and Kimmy just kind of started sailing away, and then Kimmy was trying to get Lulu, Lulu was defending, and then finally, after like five laps, Kimmy lap eight, Kimmy got him. There was a lot of talk about uh the age gap between those two. Yeah, Rachel was like, Do you think that Louis just gets tired of constantly hearing that he's 21 years older than Kimmy?
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm sure Kimmy also gets tired of hearing that he's, you know. I don't think Kimmy gets tired of anything. Kimmy's just living in just like here for what I think the narrative will probably become old quickly if it doesn't die down in the next like year or so. I'm sure he'll get sick of it. Yeah. Because he's not a rookie, it's his second year in F1. I'm sure after year three, if it continues, he'll be.
SPEAKER_01Well, and if if he does win the World Drivers Championship, then like the conversation's gonna be completely different. That might stop the conversation a little bit more, or would it make it worse? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Both. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Um, but yeah, then okay, so Kimmy overtakes Lulu. Then meanwhile, George Russell and Max were battling. Lots of like Russell Max, Hamilton, Kimmy, Kimmy, uh, Lando, Max, Lando George. Yeah, yeah. A lot of the top three too. And then I was laughing because Kimmy and Lewis were like having their own little race, and then it was this gaggle of like all the other good people. So it was like Lando, Max, George, Charles, and Oscar were all like in this little like pocket of like a their own race. Um, and then everyone else. So anyway, yeah, I that was really I didn't take a lot of other notes other than like there was the gaggle happening, George and Max and Charles passed Max and at one point Hadjar was super mad at Liam because he like might have moved under breaking.
SPEAKER_02Because I think, yeah, shout out to Liam. I think he got eighth place and was beating the second Red Bull.
SPEAKER_01Had a great weekend, really great weekend.
SPEAKER_02Arvid was looking so strong the entire week in the race race as well. Um and then Perez got a 10-second penalty even though he was in 20 seconds.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, that was crazy. They finished though, right? They did, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't think no one DNF'd out of the sprint race. Everyone, everyone made it. Um, but yeah, Antonelli got first, Lulu got second, and Lando got third.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then George, Charles, Max, Piastri, Liam. Those were the points.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Oh yeah, only through eight. Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, this was where A, so many things about the little sprint um plaques that they give out. One, immediately after MBS like went up to Lando, and Lando was like holding him at like an arms and like cackling in air quotes.
SPEAKER_01No, he was saying he was having like the best weekend of his life. Like, his hair was perfectly quaffed all weekend, like, doesn't move. I did take note of the hair. Yeah, it like doesn't like he was on that go-kart, it did not move.
SPEAKER_02It was so funny. And then those, yeah, no, he yeah, MBS living his best life. Lando definitely looked like he was forcing his like laughing. Yes. Um, and then those little grid kids, the one just like wanted to chat with one Lando.
SPEAKER_01Who I don't remember who was uh commentating. It was DC. DC, he was like, he's giving Lando some cute release.
SPEAKER_02I really liked that. And then DC does he does a really good job, and that must be so stressful as a commentator trying to wrangle like them for pictures, and then like you add the kids. Yeah, like Kimmy was not Kimmy, yeah. Was it Kimmy? Someone was trying to peel off. It was Kimmy and Lewis were like trying to peel off, and he's like, Come back, and I'm like, Oh god, yeah, Lando's just getting chatted up with this kid.
SPEAKER_01It was good, it was good, so funny. Okay, qualie? Quali.
SPEAKER_02I have a little bit more for quality.
SPEAKER_01I think I might have less for quality. Oh, okay, great. I was just devastated before we go into anything that Isaac just kept beating Max.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Again, another big theme of the weekend. Had I was outperforming Max, but I think we now know that something was wrong with Max's car.
SPEAKER_01Yes, now I feel more like justified for how crazy. And then I was like, oh, okay, if I am truly a Red Bull fan, I should be excited that we have another person that could get us points.
SPEAKER_02I just think just put yourself a couple years back and imagine instead of Max Verstappen that you're rooting for, who is a four-time world drivers champion. Imagine you're rooting for Daniel Ricardo and all this is happening. And he does not have any World Drivers Championships, and people are just ragging on him because he's just a personality.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which he is also, it was his birthday this week.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, shout out HBD Ru Danny Rick 37?
SPEAKER_01Something like that. Sounds right.
SPEAKER_02Lucky number three.
SPEAKER_01Also, on the set we didn't do a full-on like merch section. We're just sprinkling this in, Susan. So if you're listening, sorry. But Rachel really liked the Enchante Silverstone.
SPEAKER_02I did think the sweatshirt. I am not a really a zip-up girl, but I did like I did like the hoodie. I liked them both. There were two things. There was two things. Yes, it was good.
SPEAKER_01I liked them both. Yep, she liked them. And she liked the Cadillac jacket. I did like the Cadillac jacket. Which Checko had on. It looked so good.
SPEAKER_02Yes, you said he looked very like quoft.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he had a backwards hat and sunglasses and the Cadillac jacket. And Java backwards and dark denim. He looked great.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Which also side note, speaking of like looking coffed, um, apparently Danny was at Wimbledon in like little three-piece suit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like a like was it a like a sage suit suit? I think it was like navy.
SPEAKER_02It looked great. Gonna have to dive more into that. I think he's gone definitely a couple of times before. Apparently he's a tennis guy. Love that for him.
SPEAKER_01Love it. Okay, okay, qualie. Back to quality. Q1. All right. Out in Q1. We have Esty Bestie, Botas, Franco, Chaco, Stroll, and Alonzo. So two by two by two.
SPEAKER_02Pretty much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Except for Ollie did make it to Q2. Shout out to Ollie. Hadjar was the fastest.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01So Lawson. Yep. LeClaire Hulkenberg. And then George was in the gravel, and he was able to continue going, but I was like, with like 10 minutes left.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. And his front wing got damaged. I guess the commentators, I think D DC said that it was strange. It was like hard to decipher if it was a driving error or something wrong with the car. Um, but George's like never locked up there in my whole career. And I guess apparently even George was fueled for four laps. Um, so that was that was good. They like weren't taking any risks.
SPEAKER_01And then do you have anything else for Q1?
SPEAKER_02Um, oh no Franco going off just looked crazy. Did you see that? Is that Q1?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh, I did I I didn't put that. Yes, I remember br Franco had a crate, the the the boop boop.
SPEAKER_02Yes, he was literally bouncing. Yeah. Well, they didn't show it right away, so they showed it like going into Q2.
SPEAKER_01Didn't he end up getting some sort of Penalty or something? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I don't think that no, but I could have missed it.
SPEAKER_01It mattered because he didn't.
SPEAKER_02It happened with like a minute or I think like a minute left or something like that. And it like resolved itself. Like I think he like kept going. Yeah, it was crazy. Yeah. Spinning and bouncing. So glad Franco is okay. Um, no, that was pretty much it for Q1. Q2, we lost Bortoletto, Gasly, Hulkenberg, Behrman, Science, and Albon.
SPEAKER_01And George asked for a seat swap, which they were like, this never happens, but he seemed to perform better after he got the different seat.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if it was just like uncomfortable or or what? I didn't really hear much else after that.
SPEAKER_01We didn't get any follow-up. And then Max was on the radio saying his engine wasn't responding normally. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So, and again, I think first tappen Hajar was out performing. Verstappen.
SPEAKER_01They were like right there next to each other.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't like they were far off. No, but still. Um, and then Piastri was in the drop zone with like seven minutes left. Oscar had a horrible weekend.
SPEAKER_01Horrible weekend. My sister said the wasp got stung. Oh!
SPEAKER_02I love that. The wasp got stung. Um, Q3, starting grid. Antonelli, Leclerc, Hamilton, Russell, Hajar, Norris, Verstappen, Piastri, Limblad, Blosson.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't very exciting, honestly. Um, John did notice that one of the union jacks they kept showing was very like tattered. Oh. And he was like, Can't they get a new union jack for the Silverstone race?
SPEAKER_02Maybe they wanted a authentic uh look. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was funny. I wrote that down. But yeah, nothing really too crazy happened.
SPEAKER_02No, the racing bowls did not go out until there was like less than five minutes left. And I guess I was like, Oh, I guess they don't have anything to lose. Like, they're probably gonna end up in ninth and tenth anyway. So, like, why not try to like go last and see if the track improves?
SPEAKER_01And then I thought he obviously was fine, but Antonelli was freaking out that he was the first one going out on the track, which is crazy because you would think that you'd want I get it, like the tracks not warmed up and whatever, but you get the clean air. That's true.
SPEAKER_02So again, like spoiler alert, that freaking worked for him. So it's yeah, he was fine.
SPEAKER_01He was fine. He was fine. All right, race. Race. What a race. Yeah, what are your because so we didn't watch together. We obviously were chatting, texting. Um, but what were your initial overall feelings of the race?
SPEAKER_02I thought it was great. I I mean it I I understand why you wouldn't like this one.
SPEAKER_01I was really I thought it was extremely anticlimactic until it wasn't, or until it was climactic. No, it was anticlimactic. It ended on a safety clima. Oh, that's true. It was literally the least climactic race I've ever watched.
SPEAKER_02But I kind of love it because it's gonna give us something to talk about.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. But yeah, but yes, definitely. Yeah, and I was excited.
SPEAKER_02But it could have been even more exciting.
SPEAKER_01I was excited to do this pod because of all the craziness that happened, and I was watching it in a different circumstance than I would normally watch with people who do not watch F1. Yes. John really shout out to John Krell, really pulling the weight. I just said him. I don't know if that's weird or not, but anyway. Um but uh he he was like answering the questions, he knew a lot of things, so that was good. Um, but it was really hard to focus, and there was a lot going on, but like not a lot going on, and then there was like everything going on. Yeah, yeah, so I so I didn't dislike the race.
SPEAKER_02Well, and I don't know if the racing was actually that great, right? Because again, very battery deployment similar that we saw in sprint, yeah. But it got exciting with some of the pit stops, yeah, the umbrella on the track, no. The umbrella on the track, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, and unfortunately, Max was the agent of chaos. I know the agent of Rachel and I were like, we trying, we've been trying not to be like, okay, we just gotta melee say agent of chaos. We've been trying to, because every time we do that, something happens, and this time it was Max.
SPEAKER_02It was Max, unfortunately, which I don't like that. I like an agent of chaos of the city.
SPEAKER_01Well, and Holkenberg, Holkenberg, I thought was just gonna be our little like casual agent of chaos, but then yeah, that nothing really came about.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah, really solid race, but again, it was more outside factors and not like actually like racing on the track.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was which kept it interesting, but it was like hard to focus with people who didn't know what the heck was going on.
SPEAKER_02I can't even imagine. I was trying to watch a couple different screens on how I was like overseas.
SPEAKER_01I wish I had had my my screen. I'm trying to look back at our text to see what we were saying.
SPEAKER_02Lots of like F-bombs and exclamation points.
SPEAKER_01Um under Agent of Chaos finally, and you said Hulk, and I said Hulk, and then you said undercover Agent of Chaos, a little very subtle, very subtle, very demurray, very tasteful. And then you said this is going by fast, and then we started doing the exclamation marks and then I don't know, but yeah, and then oh Agent of Chaos, the wheel shield agent of chaos, because of Kimmy. Yes, oh god, and then Franco, and then I said Maxie's coming because I was like Franco's. No, I well. And then I said Maxie's coming for you, Lulu, and then Rachel says fuck, and then I said fuck, fuck, fuck spelled wrong, Agent of Chaos, Max for Snap.
SPEAKER_02Because I saw your Maxie's coming for him, and I didn't see that until after Max had gone into the wall, and I was like, he was coming for Lulu.
SPEAKER_01He was, he was it was it was exciting, it was probably gonna happen, but I was like, Lando's gonna get him, Lando's gonna get up there, and then the goddamn decorated. I think Lando might have done it.
SPEAKER_02Well, we should start from the we should start from the beginning, but Alonzo immediately stopped the formation. Immediately, and so then lane. Um, Charles and Lewis got up to one and two, like literally right away. Timmy had a horrible start, which she's been doing so much better. Yeah, so that was a bummer that he didn't have a great start.
SPEAKER_01Immediately Oscar got hit by Liam slash Alex.
SPEAKER_02There was a yellow flag, but I don't think much like I don't think actually anything came of it. Cause yeah, Pastri had damage and had to box on the laptoo. I think it was because of contact with Liam or it was Arvid and Liam. They were all like V.
SPEAKER_01And then, yeah, and then somewhere in the mix, Alex hit someone or had a yellow flag. I don't really remember what happened there. It's the same, but I remember that happening. Um and then Max did not do well at the start. No, no, and pitted early. Like he pitted pretty early. And then Russell. So it was funny because. Oh, Alex hit Bearman. Oh, okay. Yeah, Alex had Bearman.
SPEAKER_02Did he get a penalty for that? I think he did. Yeah. Gets 10 seconds. He got 10 seconds. That's that's crazy. That's a lot.
SPEAKER_01Um, so Max got George, like past George, like overtook him, and then immediately pitted. And I was like, what was that? That was That was weird.
SPEAKER_02That was hilarious. No, I third. That was, I think, on lap 17. But even before that, Lewis got a five-second penalty because he was moving before the lights went out. Yeah. Which there was a lot of discussion about that. He like barely moved, like his wheels didn't even do a full job. Yeah, I didn't I didn't notice even when they did the re replay. No, so DC said he wasn't even outside of the grid box, and then Palmer said, like, even if you move at all, it's a penalty. But I understand what DC was saying. It's like he definitely didn't gain an advantage, it wasn't outside the gearbox, but I get the FIA needs to like uphold.
SPEAKER_01I did feel like the like DC and um Ju Juliet. Yeah. Julian. Um, I wanted to say Jalen, but that's not right. Julian. Julian. Yeah. Um, they they seemed pretty confused by the penalties that happened.
SPEAKER_02There I think they did a good job. Like, there was a lot that I appreciated their perspectives of it.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. It made a feel less crazy.
SPEAKER_02Yes, and they were playing like devil's advocate, but also like seeing like why the stewards made that decision. And so again, I don't know what's right or wrong.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't I don't think there is a right or wrong for a lot of these, unfortunately, but fortunately. No, no.
SPEAKER_02Um, I think on lap 11, too, Leclerc had the lead with like 4.2 seconds. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Leclerc finally had a good race. Like, oh, I like yes, the safety car was anticlimactic. Very, however, he did have a really good race. Shout out to him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he needed that. He really needed that.
SPEAKER_01I hope that Leo got a bunch of extra treats. He probably did. Um, the next note I have was the umbrella.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, yes, a virtual safety car um out on lap 22.
SPEAKER_01It was like the quickest virtual safety car ever. Literally, so Checo and Okan went into the pits and then it was like done.
SPEAKER_02Barely yes, they like just made it in, and yeah, apparently it might have been a Lando stand umbrella that was onto the track.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like Lexi was the joke, was like Zach Brown was like, Okay, here's some money to throw your umbrella on Zach.
SPEAKER_02It's freaking hilarious, and then Hamilton at one point, a little bit after that, did not want to pit. He was like, My tires are still good, yeah. And he ended up doing it anyway, and then he did service penalty, which I think was smart.
SPEAKER_01I think was smart. I think that was really uh Ferrari actually did some decent and they made some all the cards line for them.
SPEAKER_02Did you see too the like very drive to survive intro pit stop?
SPEAKER_01I think my mother-in-law was sitting there talking about something, and I was just like locked in on the pits. No, it wasn't. That was where I got everyone to actually watch, was in the pit stops. Oh, they were all like, oh, that was so fast.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, Well, because if they're used to watching NASCAR or IndyCar, it definitely looks a lot different. Very different. Anyway, um, I thought it was too fascinating too that Antonelli and Norris on lap 26 were still out and they hadn't pitted yet.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I was getting stressed. It was a long time. Yeah, I was like, okay, and Kimmy by the time he pitted, he came right back out. Like it wasn't like he lost he I mean he might have lost one place. I think he lost maybe one place. Yeah, Kimmy didn't box until lap 35. Well, and then this is where Lewis and Russell had their little tussle. Yeah, yeah, and Max and Max was just like in front of them, so then it was like, okay, if they can keep battling, then Max can keep going. And then George got a puncture. Was it actually did we ever confirm that it was truly a puncture? Yes. Okay. So because they they radioed him and George was like, Who, me? No, he was like, What? And then they were like, No, you actually have to box. And it was the same kind of thing where like George had overtaken Lewis and then had to box immediately, which was so crazy. So then Max and Hamilton were battling, like battery battling, and and it did feel like that was a little bit more of like a genuine battle, I thought.
SPEAKER_02Yes, there were definitely some moments where it felt not as yeah, what's the word I'm looking for? Manufactured. Yeah. But yes, that was happening.
SPEAKER_01Then Kimmy boxed on lap 35. Yep. And then John was like, Alex Album, we need you to be the agent of chaos.
SPEAKER_02Well, and then that's when the yellow flag from Hulk happened on like lap 38, but like and then that's when Max went in, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um I think Norris went in. Lando went in, Hadjar went in, Lance got a five-second time penalty for like uh track limits, yeah. And it was a five-second penalty, and he was in 20th. Yes, so that was fun. And then lap 40, Max was like, I'm pushing, right? And they were like, Absolutely, and I was like, Here we go. Let's go. Then Kimmy had to pit.
SPEAKER_02Lap 42, Antonelli is like, something's wrong with the car. Yeah. Like sheer panic. Yep. He landed past him.
SPEAKER_01He really sounded crazy. Like, and he was like, I can keep going, I can keep going.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and then he like went off, he kept going off the track, and he was like, I can try to keep going. He was in six, I think, at that point, and then it was like the car is not turning, like something fundamental is wrong. It's not just like the sh the shield.
SPEAKER_01They pitted him at 42. Yep. Then he went back out, and then they figured out it was wheel shield. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02The I think DC was saying you're so low in the car that you can't see.
SPEAKER_01But you could once they showed it, you could see it. Something was fine. And then he pitted again, they quote unquote fixed it. Um, and he kept going because basically on the radio, he was like, I'd rather just get some points and try to go than have to retire the car. Because they bono kept saying pit and we'll retire the car, and Kimmy was like, No. Which I did. My little heart was like, Oh, Kimmy, he really understands that and DC, DC was saying so they they were talking about it. They were like, he understands that it could be like one or two points for the World Drivers Championship.
SPEAKER_02No, and I I really admired Kimmy's valiant effort. Oh, I know. Yes, yeah. No, I thought he, I mean, he clearly cares, which most of I mean most of the drivers do. But I just um, but I just thought that was really he was just so adamant about continuing to carry on and just doing what's best for the championship and the team. And I was going to say something else, and I entirely forgot.
SPEAKER_01Kimmy was like doing all of his Kimmy freaking out. Bono's trying to like make it happen. And then it was like Charles, Hamilton, Max, Russell, Norris, Hadrar, just like chilling. And this is when I was like, Max is coming. Max is coming.
SPEAKER_02And it was well, I think too, LeClaire was I think Hamilton was behind LeClaire by like 20 seconds. Yeah, it was almost 22 seconds.
SPEAKER_01It was crazy.
SPEAKER_02That's why I was like, Charles had a great race, really solid race. And oh, what I was gonna say about Kimmy his Bono was like, we're getting track limits for all these excursions. Yes, I love that.
SPEAKER_01Oh Bono. Oh Bono. Which I can't that so then they gave Kimmy a five-second time penalty on lap 47, which is just come. I mean, like, I get it. Yes, I get it, and Kimmy has issues with the track track limits anyway. But unfortunately, clearly his car was freaking out.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's where like he didn't gain an advantage for anything. Like he was actually like losing time trying to survive his excursion. So they were saying like he's losing times time by going off the track.
SPEAKER_01But so what's really funny is Kimmy got the five-second time penalty, and I was like, Oh my god, I have to vote for the driver of the day. So I go to vote for the driver of the day, and I saw that there was a yellow flag, and I didn't see Max's name at the top of the website. And then I looked up and Max was in the wall. 48 out of 58. And I had to stay composed with my in-laws. Oh god. And John. I screamed. I was screaming. They thought I was crazy. They were like, oh, they're actually into this. Yes, yes. Oh, it was horrible. I like stood up and like jumped a little bit and then sat back down and like drank my cold coffee. Oh, it was like this, sounds awful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Max. Apparently, his this is the same thing that happened in Austria. His wing didn't fully close, and so he spun off. Yeah, the downforce got him. The down force and he was so mad.
SPEAKER_01And I he had a quote later on that was like, even if I had gotten P3, we wouldn't have earned it. Yeah. Which is such a max thing to say. Such a max thing to say.
SPEAKER_02And I I think I saw something about Laurent was like, we're so sorry. Yeah, it's like we'll do better.
SPEAKER_01He's out, he's leaving. I'm predicting it now. There's no way he's gonna stay. Yeah, there's no way he's gonna stay with Red Bull. There's no way. There's no way.
SPEAKER_02To McLaren. I hope I fucking anyway. But didn't you? Oh, we didn't even talk about the hot gods that you saw that oh my god, yeah. I was like, what is that Carlos is going to McLaren?
SPEAKER_01And it was a it was a it had of an a John was like, that's AI.
SPEAKER_02I didn't totally anywhere else, but then I was like, oh, his him hopping on the cover.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's exactly what and I looked at I looked at the comments and everyone was just freaking what's probably started.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, oh that's yeah, yeah. So anyway. Um anyway, but this crashed safety car. So Charles pitted because he pretty much had a free pit stop. Yeah, everyone got ahead of Hamilton because everyone did Hamilton have to serve a penalty, he already served it, he already served it, but somehow Russell Russell got ahead of them.
SPEAKER_01Hamilton and Charles pitted. George got in front of Lulu, just kind of by luck, but George did not pit. So Merck stayed out. Oh, yeah, you're right. Merck stayed out, and then Kimmy was still trying to go, so he's just chugging along, leaving away. And basically, they kept saying there's gonna be a restart at lap 50. So we're on lap 49, George is in P2, Charles is in P1, but all of them are bunched up, and oh yeah, and then a bunch of people put softs on. I think like Lando was on softs, the Ferraris were on softs, and George didn't, you're right.
SPEAKER_02George did not hit because he was grateful for the safety car.
SPEAKER_01Yes, because I mean he and honestly, if there hadn't been the most worse end to a race in the history of races ever, um, I don't think George would have won or gotten P2. No, I I think he would have dropped off.
SPEAKER_02I think Lulu and Lando would have would have, yeah. I think it would have been George George, Lewis, and Lando would have been an old British podium. Yeah, fudge.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, because they would have restarted and they would have anyway, we don't know because it didn't happen. Because they just kept going around with the virtual safety car, and then at the very end of the race. Oh wait, no, it wouldn't have been an all-bridge podium.
SPEAKER_02Charles was in first. What am I saying?
SPEAKER_01Yo, yeah, unless unless Charles would have travelled it up, which is the first one. I don't think he would have. He was yeah. But yeah, then they they lifted the virtual safety car really qu it was like the last, it was like the last little turn. Well, yes, and Kimmy got out of the points. Yes. Which I was I felt so bad.
SPEAKER_02Because it was because of his I saw him drop drastically, and it was because the penalty they put the penalty points in there. Yeah. Um, but I guess the safety car, um there was a software issue. A software issue for the safety car in this lap message was displayed erroneously due to a software error. So I think we all thought that it was going to come in on lap like 501 and they'll have one lap left. And it didn't.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and the reason you thought Lewis had a yellow flag, he did have a yellow flag infringement, but he they cleared it. Yeah, yeah. They ended up clearing it.
SPEAKER_02So he is still in third place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So yeah, that's uh that's the race.
SPEAKER_02But that was uh we could talk about the yellow flag situation like all day. I just because they were also saying that they normally if they know that they can't restart after the incident, they won't yellow flag it, they'll red flag it. So everyone stops and then they restart the race.
SPEAKER_01Oh, they were saying that. So I don't know, I don't know what happened there. This was when my mother-in-law was crashing out that um not every team had their own nationality drivers. We had to explain that to her many times. Oh, she was very confused why Cadillac had a Finnish and a Mexican driver. Oh and she was very confused why there were so many people from the UK on the grid.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's so funny.
SPEAKER_01And then she thought that there was a conspiracy going on that the virtual safety car happened so that they could get George and Lewis on the podium. I mean, honestly. Which I was like love that hot take.
SPEAKER_02Okay, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Maybe, but yeah. Um uh World Drivers Championships. Well, anything else about the um no, but Ghastly congratulated Charles, which was cute.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I did someone. George looked absolutely gutted. Oh, and then I just because it's all about me and my powers. Um I kept telling Lexi that Charles hadn't want to race since Austin 2024 when I was there. Yeah. And I was convinced that we needed to be at a race for Charles to win.
SPEAKER_01We do still need to be um a race.
SPEAKER_02We do still need to be at a race, but but we don't need to be there to win for Charles to win.
SPEAKER_01For a race, I would really want, honestly, I would really want you to see Lando win. Maybe I want to. I want to see Max win, but I think you want to see Lando win more than I want to see Max win.
SPEAKER_02Like maybe so then we need to go post upgrades or next year slash both.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and the only other non-important thing is that the hound's tooth cap was weird.
SPEAKER_01It was weird. On another note the idea. The other on another note, um, it looked good on Toto. Oh, you see that? No, Toto like rolled up to Silverstone and they gave it to him to put on, and it looked really cute.
SPEAKER_02It was kind of giving like share from Clueless.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Um, the cooldown room with George and Lulu was so awkward.
SPEAKER_02I know. I said I miss Max in the cooldown room because he creates conversation.
SPEAKER_01My sister was like, is there some conflict?
SPEAKER_02There's gotta be some beef.
SPEAKER_01That's what I said. I was like, I don't know of any, but like that was so awkward. And we didn't have little Kimmy coming in being all Kimmy like. No, it's very serious.
SPEAKER_02We kind of honestly maybe miss Kimmy in the cooldown. We missed Kimmy or Max in the cooldown.
SPEAKER_01We need a Kimmy. Yeah. Otherwise, it was just so intense. And George tried to start talking, but I think he Georged it up, maybe. I couldn't really hear. And then Charles was just like in awe of like him winning, which I get.
SPEAKER_02I think, oh my god, did you hear him on the radio? He sounded like he was like gobbling like a turkey. Yes. Yes. Which, like, to be fair, if I had won after not winning for two years, I would have also been making weird sounds.
SPEAKER_01Also, George sounded so after the yabba dabba-doo of it all, so lame.
SPEAKER_02So sad. He looked like soul crushed, even though we got like second.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think he had his whole family there because the one radio that they did show that you can tell was get my family to the podium, which was really, really sweet. Very sweet. Like his whole family was there. So that was really nice. Um, okay, World Drivers Championship update here. We've got Kimmy Antonelli, 179 points. George Russell only 20, I think I did my math right, 25 points down with 154 points. Is that right? I thought there was only oh, I mean, never mind. Yeah, 25 points.
SPEAKER_02That is, I was thinking about yeah, sorry.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because it's sprint. They we did sprint and the race race. And then Lulu seven points behind George at 147. Charlotte Claire, hanging on, 108. Lando Norris 97, Oscar Piastri and P6 with 82 points. Max is still in P7 with 76, and Isaac is in P8 with 52, Pierre is in P9, and Liam Lawson is still in P10. Wow. Yeah, 25 points between Kimmy and George, and then seven points between Lewis and uh George.
SPEAKER_02And there's quite a gap between Lewis and 39 points.
SPEAKER_01Charles. Charles and yes. So it looks the good news is, the good news is I don't think Kimmy is at this point running. Yeah. I think we're going to have a fight, which is good. I think we all want that.
SPEAKER_02We do. Yeah. Wow, this is really two by two by two.
SPEAKER_01It really is. It literally is.
SPEAKER_02It literally is until ninth place. Pierre is snuck in there in ninth. That's crazy. Pierre. I mean, Flavio's thrilled, you know? Flavio is thrilled. Speaking of, I was watching, and then we can talk about Formula Run Club. Um, Scotty James, aka brother-in-law of Lance Stroll.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Was doing a little friends of Danny Rick.
SPEAKER_02Friends of Friend of Danny Rick was like walking the track, and he's like, Oh, there's Flavio. Hey Flavio, how you doing? He's like, We're following Flavio. That was like part of it. Holy Flavio. And then he was like talking to Chloe, his wife, who is Lance's sister. And they're like, oh, there's a big man, and it was Lawrence.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's funny. Um, I I was talking to Angie about Leo, and she's seen a bunch of Leo doggies on her trip, and we decided that someone needs to have a pet and name it Flavio.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_01Who's I feel like Flavio is a good name for a cat. That's what I said. Are you gonna get a cat another cat? I mean, summer is not young. So I don't know, maybe eventually. No, we can't think about that. But someone needs to have a pet named Flavio. And woo! Um Formula Run Club.
SPEAKER_02It's a great week for a Formula Run Club. Lexi had George Russell and guest P3, and he got P2.
SPEAKER_01And then Rachel had Lulu Hammy, guest P2, and he got P3.
SPEAKER_02Woo! And I ran my one mile. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you did. Look at you. Already did. Hey, I'm done. Um, and then we have no race next weekend.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01And then we have the Belgium Grand Prix at Spa.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited. This is the track that Ben said I really just need to perfect driving. So maybe I will get up on the sim. Yes. Yeah. I I did a couple weeks ago get into spa. Okay. Okay. Okay. So I'll maybe keep going. Yeah. Yeah. Create some content. Create some. Oh my God. Maybe. Yeah. Create some content on the sim. Love. Um, and yeah, we're traveling before. We're going to New York for less than 24 hours.
SPEAKER_01We're basically like flying in, flying out. It's gonna be great.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be so fun, but then we will we will be back with plenty of time to watch and talk about.
SPEAKER_01And I think we have a lot to chat through next week. Just uh we'll um process and prepare for the the last two races before silly season. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Oh sad. What are we gonna do without it for a month? We've already done this before. I don't want to do it again. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Um, well, if you were in America, we hope you all had a great uh 4th of July weekend. Here in Canada, happy Canada Day, happy Canada Day, happy British Grand Prix. We will see you on Sunday. Bye, everybody.
