All right, hi, and welcome back to Reality Renewed. Today we have Sasha Martin on. Hi. Hi, I'm so happy to have you on the podcast and share all of your wealth of knowledge with us. I have to say, I was in uh workout clothes till about 10 minutes ago. And I was like, I cannot have Sasha, the goat of uh fashion in our town wearing sweatpants.
SPEAKER_00So I love it.
SPEAKER_01I had to wear jeans because let's be real, Bluebird is like the jean capital. Yes. My best pair of jeans. Uh I've, I mean, all my jeans I've gotten from from you guys, and you just have the best stuff. And obviously, your style's amazing. And so I was so happy when we had chatted about you coming on and just talking about fashion and kind of all all around that. So thank you so much. Thank you. So why don't you just kind of introduce yourself and tell us about your story and how you got into fashion and then how you uh got into Bluebird.
SPEAKER_03We have had our store on 15th of France for 22 years now. Oh my gosh. And my business partner Allison and I met at working at the Banana Republic on 15th of France. We were both managers there.
SPEAKER_01No way.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And then we went our separate ways and worked at boutiques and then came back together to open up Bluebird. That is amazing. I did not know that. And it was kind of perfect timing because it's kind of before people were shopping on the internet. So it was it was good right from the beginning. Oh, that's amazing. It was busy.
SPEAKER_01What was because Banana Republic's no longer there now.
SPEAKER_03No, but it was there for it was there for a long time. It was there for a long time. And was anything in Bluebird before? Bluebird used to be two stores. It was a shell shop and a frame shop. Oh my god. Seashells for years. Uh-huh. And then so we made it into one space. Yeah. And that was like so long ago, it was like Egyna Gro was next door to us. Yes. The building, none of the condos were built yet. So we've gone through a lot. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, and just the construction, but I mean, it's shout out to Rebecca Sorensen. I mean, she that 50th in France area has been unbelievable. And obviously, having a partner who owns some restaurants over there.
SPEAKER_03I mean and the restaurant scene is finally getting better. That's so exciting.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. So, well, I'm so happy to have you on, and your store is is wonderful. Um, would love to come. I know we sort of talked about this, but like, what are you seeing as sort of the spring summer trends right now?
SPEAKER_03Um, the one huge thing is that we go through every year is sweaters. It comes to February and March, and people don't want to buy sweaters. And we're like, you'll be wearing sweaters for the next four months. And so right now, our biggest thing is like bright, colorful sweaters, actually.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so fun.
SPEAKER_03This is like our bestseller.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I may just like buy that from you. It might not be a good one.
SPEAKER_03I was thinking, I was thinking you love it. Yes, you can wear it either way. They're they're kind of like a one-size-fits-all deal, or where there's like two different sizes and they come in a bunch of colors. But like, this is the kind of stuff where people are like, I don't want to buy a sweater. Yes, you do. We wear sweaters until June. And I think the biggest thing that people stop buying in the spring, they don't know what to wear, is because they don't want to buy sweaters.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_03And sweaters are the key to spring. Yes. And it's you, it's also like it's not a fall sweater. You don't want to wear your fall sweaters anymore. You're done. It's like you gotta move into the spring sweaters. Like this sweater I have on is from last year, and I love it. Like any kind of like bright, function sweater.
SPEAKER_01So, what do you mean it goes bold? Like you can wear it.
SPEAKER_03You can wear it, this is the front or the back. You can wear it either way.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that is adorable. Adorable.
SPEAKER_03And then the it's nice to have something that you like day to night. Yes. Like wear right.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I find too, is like, you know, sometimes you're going to like a late lunch or early happy hour or whatever you want to call it. Yeah. I'm actually doing one after this, and like you want to wear something that is gonna that will go kind of from day to night. So you're not having to go back and change. That sweater is so cute.
SPEAKER_03So cute. And you can wear a tank top under it if you want to take it off, which is easy too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I think that's the biggest thing I recommend is keep buying sweaters because you'll wear them all spring, and people are like, I don't know what to wear. Sweater, sweaters, and jeans, just like we wore in the fall. Yes. Because it's just not t-shirt weather. Yeah, well, because it's Minnesota. It's like Minnesota. We wear sweaters 10 months out of the year. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Okay, I love that. And then what are you seeing as some of the main things for summer?
SPEAKER_03Um, I brought I actually brought my favorite outfit. There is a lot of like color. I mean, obviously, spring. Yeah, like favorite outfit right now. Um, we're still seeing like a lot of sets. Yeah, a lot of matching sets. I love matching sets, a lot of fun shorts still. Um, a lot of we do a ton of casual dresses. Okay. Just easy, easy stuff. I brought the the micro sneaker to me is like the biggest trend for spring.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_03It's all like the low, the low sneaker. But obviously, too, with a lower sneaker, you need longer jeans now. So that's that's like what to know, like what jeans go with what shoes. We have a mesh, mesh flats are still really big. Okay. I think a mesh flat is the one thing that um is the best thing for a Europe trip. Like I was in Europe last year and I wish I wish I had a mesh flat. It's the best packing thing for a trip. Because it's like a sink there. Because it's like you don't want to bring a sandal unless you're going on a resort trip, like a flat slide. But a mesh, a little sneaker like that, a s like more of a summer sneaker or a mesh flat to me is a key with traveling. Okay. So you feel put together, but not too casual, not too dressy. I love that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And like what would you say, kind of going into the travel? Like, you know, obviously it depends where you're gonna be traveling to, but like, do you just have three items regardless of where you're going that are like, okay, these are the three items I have to have?
SPEAKER_03I feel like I always have one pair of jeans because that's usually what I'll wear on the plane.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Um and any specific, or do you just have like your kind of I forgot them.
SPEAKER_03I have my favorite travel jean. It's a new line we carry, and they feel like sweatpants. And it's a jean that goes with every shoe. So I so it's the only jean I usually bring on traveling.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Yes.
SPEAKER_03It is my favorite. And we can get those at blue. And I do feel like the travel jean is important because people were like, I don't want to wear jeans on the plane, and you have to find the right jean that you can wear on a plane that feels like sweatpants. Right. Yes. Okay. And I I mean, if I'm going to international travel, will I wear a sweatsuit? Yes, but I'll only wear it if it's under a huge statement coat that you can't see the sweats kind of. Like I'll wear with a fur.
SPEAKER_00Oh. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Or a cool, like I'll dress up sweats, but I just won't throw on sweats.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03But once it's warmer weather, I'm I'm more wearing jeans.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So a great pair of jeans and ones that like are you can wear on the plane or that are clean.
SPEAKER_03And I think dress like a casual dress is the easiest too, because it's one outfit.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Or um or a matching set like I just showed that you could wear with your jeans or put a t-shirt on with the shorts. Oh, smart. Yeah. Because then it's already become a few outfits. A few outfits.
SPEAKER_01That's a great idea. Yeah. And then, I mean, kind of going into that, and we, you know, we talked a little bit about this before, but wearing things over.
SPEAKER_03I mean wearing things over and over. People are so scared to wear things over. I think it's so important, like putting on the same dress, even though it's on Instagram, like not having to buy new stuff all the time, wearing the same jeans, find your favorite pair of jeans, wear them over. Like my sweaters from last year, just like buying nice fabrics and nice clothing that you want to keep in your wardrobe that aren't throwaway clothes. I think it's so important. And it's not only important for our the environment and fashion, it's important for your health too now as we're learning. Like, we're not really wanting to wear bad fabrics because now we know they're causing cancer. Like, right. So, like, even the workout stuff, like, we all are in our workout clothes. Yeah. You gotta get them off. The polyester. Right. Sweating them, gotta get them off. Yes. And I do think people are over that trend, kind of too. That's like, I totally get it. If you go work out, you're running around. Like, I get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I feel like that that's kind of shifting too. More people are wanting to get dressed because dress, you can get dressed in a very casual way with sneakers and jeans and feel comfortable. So I think more people are gravitating towards that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because I feel like I'll wear workout clothes and I mean I'll be running, I'll work out, I'll be running around picking up kids. Yes. And then you get to a point where you're like, I I've been wearing these all day. Like, I just I need to change.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. And I get it. When you get busy, you're yeah, sometimes you can't change.
SPEAKER_01But also, like, I do think when I'm get out of my workout clothes, I feel so much more put together.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And feel better about yourself for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I love that idea. And you know, I I think a lot of people can relate to it as like you think like every new event or every, you know, like event or dinner you have coming up with the same people, it's like, oh, I I want to get like a new outfit, or I feel like I need to get a new dress for this because you know, I've worn the same one, and I love that. Like, we should let's get over that. Like, let's have just like those pieces that you love and quality over quantity. And I'm guilty of that. Like, we have a gala tomorrow night, and I was like, oh my gosh, like I I needed what am I gonna wear to this? What am I gonna wear? You know, and I'm like, okay, just wear a dress that you've already worn. I wore it for my birthday last year, it's all over Instagram. Who cares? Like, I feel comfortable in it, yeah, it fits me well. Like, I'm just gonna re-wear it.
SPEAKER_03Good. That's great. I feel like the one regret of me, I've gotten a rid of dresses, and I regret it. Because there are dresses where I'm like, I'm never gonna wear this again. I wore it five times, and then like five years later, I'm like, I wish I had that dress. Oh, I wouldn't wear it again. So it's like getting like the one thing I regret is giving away some cool dresses.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like purging too quickly. Do you have because I know you do also will help people with their closets too and styling? And do you sort of have a role about that when it comes to getting rid of stuff or purging your closet?
SPEAKER_03Well, it's funny because I feel like the people I help only really shop at Bluebird, and we do go through the thing where nothing ever goes out of style.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So it's almost like if anything, it's like, okay, I've worn that 50 times now, I never want to see it again. Even though it still looks good. So it's more about that. But I I do I do think it's funny because I go into people's closets and there's stuff from Bluebird like 10 years ago, and I'm like, I don't know, it's still good. Maybe doesn't want maybe you don't want to wear it this season, but you might want to wear it again. The one thing I think that changes in fashion that you have to get rid of are jeans. Like even when they come back, they come back a different way. Like bootcut, they're coming back for fall. We haven't seen them for 10 years, but guess what? They're not low, they're high. So it's like jeans really do change with with the trends that you really can't go back to jeans unless they're like an old Levi, let's say. Sure. But other than that, genes really do change.
SPEAKER_01So do you recommend like getting a new like one or two new pairs kind of each season?
SPEAKER_03Yes, yeah, I do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And those are and jeans are hard now because of the shoes. Yeah. Like every gene needs a different shoe. So it's like, yeah, you need a jean for heels, you need a jean for sneakers, you do need jeans for different things. That is so true. That's what I help people with a lot too. It's like we do little tabs of like, okay, all these are my heel jeans, these are my boot jeans, these are my flat jeans, these are my tennis shoe jeans. Okay, that's really smart.
SPEAKER_01We should have like a grid.
SPEAKER_03There's gotta be some kind of I have labelers for hangers, like what jeans are. Oh, that's amazing. People label them. Because I get it. It's hard. Like today I put on jeans and I had to keep putting on jeans because they're all too short for my shoes that I the shoes I wanted to wear. And it's like that too short of it, like it's it's about the longer lengths now. Yeah. Like you want your jeans to look longer.
SPEAKER_01Well, and it's so hard for me because I'm 5'10, and it's almost impossible to find a jean that is long enough.
SPEAKER_03Long enough. Speaking of, we just got in this new line, and they're all redone Levi's. They're amazing. Is it redone? No, it's a new line. Because I found redone from you guys. It's called Alley Grace's. This new line, they're all redone Levi's. And I I was at the store before this trying them all on. I brought a few pairs. They're here, they're all they're amazing. But there's a jean that came in that you will want. It was 10 inches below my feet. And I'm like, who's gonna wear these? Yes. Yeah, we got the tall girl gene in today. Okay, good.
SPEAKER_01Because that is like the hardest thing to find jeans, and it's like I find a couple frame has some good ones that are longer, but it's so hard to find jeans that work, and then you're trying to find like all the different kinds. And I do feel like there's a lot of longer lengths now, though.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Yeah. Than before. Yeah, jeans used to be really short.
SPEAKER_01There's long jeans now. Yeah. And then it went through like the crop or the ankle lengths and the or the cropped look. And I'm like, this is like ankle length for me, is like I need the regular jeans.
SPEAKER_03And a girl like me, now when I wear heels, I want a super long jean. So those super long jeans could be good on you with flats. Right. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Cause I mean, jeans don't go out of style. They don't go out of style. Here's another thing about jeans. I tell people this, and I know it's hard. You shouldn't wash, I don't do not wash my jeans. I don't wash my jeans unless I stain them. And I think it's really hard for people. But the more like everyone's like, do these jeans stretch? Um my jeans have never stretched out because I don't wash them. So unless I have a stain, I will wash and dry them. But I'm telling you, maybe once a year. I I get home, I take them off, I hang them up.
SPEAKER_01Cause they don't need because they just don't need to be.
SPEAKER_03No, they don't need to be no.
SPEAKER_01So if you get a stain on it, you'll wash them and then we put them in the dryer.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh. Not like air dry. Okay. Not all the way.
SPEAKER_01Or hang them. Can you hang them?
SPEAKER_03I I will air dry them halfway and then take them out.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03But the people don't understand. Like the more you wash your jeans, the more stretchy they become they become.
SPEAKER_01That's so smart. Yeah. Well, and also when you get into like different colors, like black jeans, like if you wash those, it starts losing the color. And looks then they look terrible. Yeah. So like what are like the best color? I mean, do you see, do you start seeing any sort of color denim coming?
SPEAKER_03So I personally love a lighter denim. Well, you're gonna tell because I brought all light denim jeans. Yes. They've been in style for years. It's still my favorite color. Are is the dark jean right now? Every everyone is looking for a dark jean. Yes. I love a dark jean. I think when you wear it with color, you look dated. I think if you want to wear a dark jean, it has to be very simple. It's white, black, or gray. I think a lighter denim makes everything look more updated if you want to wear color. Like I feel like if I was wearing this with dark denim, I would look dated. Um this is like the newest cut. Or is this like we're going back to a oh yeah? A more straight leg skinny leg, but again, this is very like I I'm not gonna wear it with pumps. It looks dated. Like if you have to just wear the right shoe. Like, I want to wear this with like sandals this summer or to tuck it in a boot. So, like, this is like my favorite jean for for right now.
SPEAKER_01Okay, and who makes that one?
SPEAKER_03Pistola. Okay, yes, I and then also like our favorite shorts right now are finished, finished hams. Oh like we're really about like just looking with the finished temples. That rip that ripp jean is very casual, it's very casual, it's younger, it's fun sometimes when you're soupy of a super dressy blouse, but other than that, I feel like this looks like way more. Those are cute. And this short we have in four colors. People love it. This is a new new short and people are loving it, and it comes in four colors. Amazing. Yeah, and then this like this, these this is my favorite denim, but these are like all the new redone levies, they're so cute. Oh, those are so cute. Are they something you can buy online? No, because each pair runs and fits so different. Really? So I'd say like these are my favorite, they're like little like cut off Levi's, but you every pair run so different that you it's it's gonna be the one line you can't buy online.
SPEAKER_01So the best thing, I mean, I do think jean shopping is really intimidating.
SPEAKER_03It can be hard-I feel like you have to come into a store to buy jeans. You because even if you get jeans online, you don't even know what looks good on you. No, like you need a professional help with jeans.
SPEAKER_01Do you guys get annoyed when people come in and try on like 30 pairs of jeans? No, everybody. Or are you like, this is great? No, it's great.
SPEAKER_03No, it's great. Because you have to. Yes. We usually are pretty good. We're the first one or two pairs, is the you guys are right. We really we can take them out pretty fast. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. No, you guys, I mean, my favorite jeans have been bought at your place. Yeah. I mean, they you guys really have it down.
SPEAKER_03And customers are good at knowing exactly what they want, which makes it easy too. They know what color they want. They they come in, they're like, I I don't want a wide leg. I have too many wide legs, I want a straight leg. Like people know what they want.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I want to start, I it's such an easy thing just to put jeans, you know, it's like one of those things that's it's it it makes you look more finished and polished. So if you find kind of that couple pair that work, then you just wear those. Yes. I mean, would you say 90% of the time you're wearing jeans?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 90% of the time.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And you always look at the case. I feel like the only time I don't have jeans on is when I go to Europe. Like that's the only time I don't have jeans on. Or jean shorts. Yeah. Like when I pack people for Europe, I'm like, that's the one thing you don't need over there are jeans and jean shorts.
SPEAKER_01Because they just that's are dressed.
SPEAKER_03Like there, it's just more dressed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay, so let's talk about. I loved this what we what you talked about. We talked about washing the clothes, which was great, where you're like, the jean part. I mean, I'm guilty of it. So no. Really? Well, like, I I don't know. Like, I'll wear them a couple times and I'm like, do these like, do I smell? Like, do these smell? But they don't. But then you just get paranoid because you wash all your so that was really helpful for me. Uh, let's talk about this slow fashion. Yes. It's not really a trend, but just this this idea.
SPEAKER_03It is, like, people are so like the fast fashion and the quality and and the health behind it now, the health for the work, the earth, the health for our bodies, and what we're knowing. It's like it's not worth it anymore. And it's it's it's about like buying, yeah, a sweater might be $400, but you're gonna wear it so many times, it doesn't matter. And I think it's all goes back to like the social media and people want a new outfit every picture. And it's like, no, let's move on from that. Yeah. Like, let's start wearing the same clothes and and quality, and quality versus quantity. I think it's really about quality versus quantity.
SPEAKER_01I love that. I think it's so important, and I think if we all did that more, we wouldn't care about wearing the same thing all the time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and you should feel like you should buy a great expensive fall sweater and wear it all the time. And you probably will be sick of it by the next fall, but it was worth it because you wore it all the time.
SPEAKER_01Right, like price per wear.
SPEAKER_03I feel like that's the one thing. I I want my new sweaters and my new jeans every season. And I wear them a lot. So is that kind of your go-to, would you say? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Sweaters and jeans. And then what about like accessories? I I for accessories, like that's where I put my color usually, are my handbags and shoes. I think I think updating outfits, if you change your shoes and handbags and jacket. Jacket's the most important thing to me, too. Like the jacket. I have so many jackets because you that changes your whole look. But like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So as excessive. You do have great jackets. Thank you. Like, and I mean, I bought one before our trip to Montana, the cape. The cape.
SPEAKER_03It changes your whole. It's I literally changed the whole bike. Yeah. You can be wearing the same outfit and have this great jacket.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I wore it every day. Every day. And it looked different because of what you were wearing, and it just made it so elevated. I remember the um our final dinner night. I was like, holy shit. I am so tired. I have been like, we've been eating and drinking, and I'm exhausted. I'm like, I'm not gonna do my hair. I'm wearing no makeup, and I wore that cape, and I was like, it doesn't even fucking matter. Like you know what I mean? It's like you still look until good.
SPEAKER_03That's what I think about first, too. Like I can all sudden roll onto a plane with sweats or whatever on and throw on a big fur, and it's changes your whole it's you look dressed. Yes.
SPEAKER_01So coats, that's I do love jackets.
SPEAKER_03Damon jackets are huge. I probably have more jackets than anything in my clo like in my closet.
SPEAKER_01And they just don't, I mean, they don't really wear them all. Got a lot of style, right? Is there's are there's some jackets that you're like, that's just not gonna come back?
SPEAKER_03No. No, not really. No, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I feel like they all yeah. They all kind of work again.
SPEAKER_03They all kind of work again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then what about for shoes and purses? Like what are kind of your favorite staples for shoes? You're like, okay, I have to have like the like these are the top three shoes that I'm always gonna kind of have. Pumps. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Pumps are a classic to me.
SPEAKER_01So like a color or color. Like those are so cute.
SPEAKER_03These are from these are Bluebird. Okay. I love them. Yes. I a white like pump at night is my favorite thing. And that has been for years. Yep, it has been for years. That's my favorite.
SPEAKER_00I love that.
SPEAKER_03Um, I have colored pumps that I've kept over the years, and it's so funny because that's over them, but now I want to wear them again.
SPEAKER_01Um is that kind of coming back, the colored pumps?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think so. But again, with the right jean, right? Um the shoes right now, like a low profile sneaker is my favorite. And I personally love a pointy toe sling back flat, but it's the only flat I'll wear. Because I think it's sexy.
SPEAKER_01Ooh.
SPEAKER_03But that's the only flat I'll wear, personally. Okay. So what do you have like favorite brands of those or just kind of the two brands I have, one's Christian Louis Tonus? They're well worth it. I've worn them so many times.
SPEAKER_01And it's just the pointy. We'll have to link it. We'll have to do a picture.
SPEAKER_03It's okay. Uncomfortable. Uncomfortable. Mm-hmm. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Perfect.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And those. And then do you have another one that you like?
SPEAKER_03I think my other one's a Laya.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03And it is hard to find flats. Because I feel like they're my both of my both of my flats are a thousand dollars. I feel like they're either a thousand dollars or they're a hundred, but it's like hard. That's why it's like I have two pairs of flats I love. That's it. I've had them for years because I spent the money on them and I'm not buying any more.
SPEAKER_01And that's I I really believe that too. Like the quality. Like I do like to buy more expensive shoes, but then I keep them forever.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. One pair is silver, one pair's white. And I wear them both all the time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yep. I know there is so hard finding flats. It's very hard finding flats.
SPEAKER_01And I know the ballet flat was in. I it just does not look good on me. Nope. I can't do it either.
SPEAKER_03It looks cute on some people. It does look cute on some people.
SPEAKER_01But for I I feel like every time Daisy.
SPEAKER_03Sorry, that's like, yeah, love the love the little Chanel ballet flats. I no, not cute on me.
SPEAKER_01Not me neither. Like I don't know.
SPEAKER_03It just doesn't look good on me. I I almost think, but I'm sure I always said you have to have a long leg, but maybe that's not true. I don't know what it is. Yeah, maybe I I just it's a it's a style too.
SPEAKER_01I know it is. It is. Uh so I would love to talk. So kind of going into the slow fashion part, uh, consignment.
SPEAKER_03Consignment. We're consignment is so big right now. And I was just saying, like, instead of buying designer handbags and shoes, we really do shop at the consignment stores. We love June, we love Fashion Avenue, we love Fashion Avenue 2 out in Y Zeta. Like these consignment stores have good stuff. They really, really do. I mean, are we taking turns going over there during our shifts? It's you know, it's like it's hit or miss. Yeah. So you kind of have to do it a lot, but it's super fun. And I do, I I think it's the new trend. Like, even my business partner and I, we can sign our own clothing at Bluebird.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_03And we can sign our old designer stuff at Bluebird too. Like, I feel like, yeah, people weren't people are appreciating it more now that we know what clothing is doing. Right. And it's it's great.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I think too, it's like, you know, they and I I love June and I love uh Fashion Avenue too. And you know, I go into June, and it's like they have such cool pieces. So cool pieces that you're not gonna just see for going to like the Nordstrom or I mean, especially in Minnesota, we don't have like amazing options.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they have great dresses at June too. Yes. Like great dresses, yes.
SPEAKER_01And I love that because I remember in the past I would be like, oh, I don't really want to buy like I, you know, other people's clothes, like you get like other people's clothes, or it's like, you know, it was it's weird, or why am I not buying just retail? But it's like you go in there and first of all, it as we were saying, like it's better for the environment, but it's also just you can find really cool pieces.
SPEAKER_03And not everything is used, but they do have new stuff. Oh, they do because I've been in there and there's stuff with tapes on it. Yeah, they I mean they're yeah, people's regret mistakes that they're designing that are brand new.
SPEAKER_01I remember before my trip to Paris last year for my birthday, Amanda Rose, you know, love Miss Amanda, miss her. Uh she found amazing stuff from Bluebird from you guys, and then also she found some of the coolest pieces at June that still had tags on them that were like a fraction of the price and happened to be like my size, like, and they're still some of my favorite pieces.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01I think it's amazing the stuff that she gets, and same with same with Fashion Avenue. So I like that, and I think you know, to your point, like the accessories, especially, like the purses and the shoes.
SPEAKER_03I mean, if you can find your size shoe there, it's like yeah, yeah, it's great, and they're both great places to consign stuff too.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yep, yeah, and you know, they're both, I mean, Dawn makes it so easy, they both make it easy. You know, fashion hour, you just make an appointment and and bring your stuff and you can kind of browse and you know, Dawn at June. Cash. Yeah, cash. Yes, and I think that's the as a check falls out of here. Uh, I think that's the thing too, where it's like it's so like that is a nice thing that you just go in, and if she wants stuff, she's giving you cash sort of right off the spot there. Yeah, so going into all of obviously this consignment stuff, which is great, and the spring fashion, summer fashion, obviously we have listeners on here that are kind of getting back into the dating world, or even like I don't know. I mean, I'm still going on dates with my partner, but like I I still want to know like what are kind of the best outfits in your mind for dates?
SPEAKER_03I'm curious to know too, because someone came in the store the other day and she said she was wearing a dress out on a date, and this was in March, and I'm like, I would never do that. To me, I'd always wear jeans and like a tighter top and a heel. Like that is to my, I mean, that's what I wear anyways, but like that on a date is what you should be wearing.
SPEAKER_01I love that. Yeah. So what kind of top?
SPEAKER_03Just something I think something tighter, like more flattering, but not like too sexy. Yeah. Like you try too hard. Like, hey, when we're I hate the word going out top. I'm like, what's a going out top?
SPEAKER_01Totally. What's where are we going? Where are we going with the going out top?
SPEAKER_03Sexier, but not too sexy. Yeah, like you don't want to make it. Simple, simple, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then heel, like do you always kind of wear I always wear a heel. Okay. Always three inch, four inch. And always a pump or a boot or a sandal.
SPEAKER_03Sandal, boot, pump. Like I love these heels I have on. Yes. I would never wear them out on a date. The kitten heel. Okay. I put on they're too little, they're too little.
SPEAKER_01So you would wear like a pump, like a higher heel. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. This to me is a day shoe. Now I wear right out until the night on during the week, of course. Like for sure. Yeah. But if I'm like going out to change, I'm not putting on the shoe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Like you're you want to.
SPEAKER_03I'm not putting on my secretary shoe.
SPEAKER_01I think they're so cute. So cute, but I look like a secretary. But I think they look adorable. I mean, that's a pretty hot secretary. I think they look great. But I get that, but yeah, like you want to wear a higher heel.
SPEAKER_03It's driving me crazy to go out at night and see people in sneakers.
SPEAKER_01Mmm.
SPEAKER_03I will never understand it.
SPEAKER_01So even if you were gonna go like watch a sporting event or watch, I mean, I know you I mean I I go out a lot to watch sports.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, send plus sneaker, yes. During the day for brunch, yes. Sometimes going out with the girlfriends, yes. Friday and Saturday night, no.
SPEAKER_00Just go with the heel. Mm-hmm. Go with the heel. I love that. Yeah. Because it just dresses up.
SPEAKER_03That is way too casual. Like going out.
SPEAKER_01Mm-mm. Especially in Minnesota.
SPEAKER_03Which is interesting to me. Like, don't we want to have fun?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Especially in Minnesota.
SPEAKER_01It does elevate it to wear a heel.
SPEAKER_03But I've noticed it like in New York, I've noticed it other places too. People are really casual. Too casual.
SPEAKER_01Well, you gotta get get back to the get all dressed.
SPEAKER_03It's fun. It makes you feel good.
SPEAKER_01And I love it, doesn't need to be that hard. Like find a jean you like, find a top you like. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It doesn't need to be that hard.
SPEAKER_01Throw on, throw on.
SPEAKER_03People are always like, you're so dressed up. I'm like, well, no, I'm not. I have a t-shirt and jeans on. It's because my shoes or something, my jacket makes me look dressy.
SPEAKER_01So we'd love to talk about that too. That makes that because I think the other thing that Bluebird has are such good basics.
SPEAKER_03Such good basics. We sell so many white t-shirts. It's funny to me, like how many white t-shirts we sell, but like that's something that you want new every season, right?
SPEAKER_01It's a white t-shirt. And so what's like so maybe that answer is like what is the best basic to you? Like brand wise or no, just like what should everyone to me the b new t-shirts.
SPEAKER_03Okay. And every white and even like a white t-shirt. We don't sell a lot of black.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03It's more like gray and white. And I feel like a new t-shirt. And then once it's that's another thing, like once that new t-shirt's older, then I start layering it under all my sweaters, and I'm still using it. And a good quality t-shirt lasts years. But yeah, like new t-shirts. And I I do feel like you need new ones because it's like after so long, you just need a new t-shirt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03If that's part of your like look.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So like a t like so basics, like a white t-shirt, jeans, heels, and then just like a fun jacket.
SPEAKER_03A fun jacket. So like right now, it's the fur weather's kind of over, but I still love the fur with the t-shirt underneath because you can only do it for like a few weeks. So I love that look. And then what about belts? What are your feelings on belts? Belts are huge. We sell so many belts. I personally do not wear them. They don't look, they don't look good on me. They just I I find belts like very hard. They're very hard. You have to think more about it. They really put an outfit together for a lot of people. They don't for me. I I can't I put them on. I'm like, it looks like I'm trying to be someone I'm not. I can't do it.
SPEAKER_01Well, and it's hard because like if it's a designer belt, right? Like, you know, the there's the Hermes, there's a bunch of different belt. It's like I feel like you have to have a fine line between having too many like designer items on your body. Yes. Right?
SPEAKER_03Yes. That's another thing. One designer thing. I used to wear the H belt all the time. I loved it. But it was like you, yeah, that you it's you have less is less is more is a thing. Like you figure out what your statement is. And I feel like mine is like the outerwear. A belt is like a statement to me. Okay. So if that's your statement, great. But it's it's you gotta for me, it's too much. I already have enough going on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01It's always trying to. I like that idea of like kind of like system.
SPEAKER_03Do I love a button down with a belt and jeans? Love it on other people. I mean, no, can't do it.
SPEAKER_01That is cute. That's just a white.
SPEAKER_03It's so cute, but I can't do it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Well, and I think that's also like kind of trying to figure out what works for you. Yes. And like how you feel most comfortable, right?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Because it's going to be different for everyone.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And so I think like if you But I think the key to a belt, too, is not having a bunch of too many options in a closet to kill people. If you if you want to wear a belt, have one or two of them. Don't have more than that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Then you just get confused. And colors, like what colors do you recommend? I mean, we just have the brown, black. I mean brown, black to be a basic. Yeah. Yeah. I bought a colorful belt once too. Never wore it. Yeah. It's just not me. But it's cute. I saw it on someone. I was like, it looks so cute. But then I was like, not on me. It's hard.
SPEAKER_01But and I think, you know, as we get older too, like, we want to be comfortable and we want to feel like good in what we're wearing. And so I think trying to, you know, sometimes I can go down like these rabbit holes of like what's trendy, like what's trending right now. And it's like, that could look awesome on that person, but like does not look good on me. And so I think finding like that fine balance between what's sort of trending and also like what looks good. Yes. Because it's gotta be, I mean it's different for every person.
SPEAKER_03That's how I feel about jewelry. Like I can look at someone and love their jewelry. I do not look good in jewelry. Can I wear one big statement piece at a time, like big vintage earrings or big yes, I can wear one piece at a time for fun, but other than that, I don't wear jewelry. It's it's not me.
SPEAKER_01That's yeah, and I wear a watch and my diamond studs every day, and that's I love I love jewelry. I mean, I like stacking necklaces, obviously. I like bracelets. The earring thing is interesting. I wear the same earrings every day. Just diamond studs. Me too. And I I look at people when they have these amazing earrings, and I'm like, oh my gosh, they look so great. But like I never wear them.
SPEAKER_03The one thing I have noticed is if I want to pull my hair back, I have to wear huge earrings. Oh.
SPEAKER_02Like it looks so much better.
SPEAKER_03And that is when I'll put on a cool earring. I cannot pull my hair back without a big earring.
SPEAKER_01I love that.
SPEAKER_03And that probably makes it look dressier, right? So do you like a hoop, or what's kind of the I have like I I love vintage designer jewelry right now, but it's such a trend that everything's really expensive. But like I have big rhinestone earrings, I have big gold earrings. I do have hoops, I haven't worn my hoops recently.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But like where's your favorite place to get jewelry?
SPEAKER_03Filigree has the best jewel. So again, I I'm not into jewelry, and then I went to filigree and I'm like, I want every single piece of jewelry there. It's all vintage and it's all real. Wow. And it's unbelievable. And it's out of my price range, but I want it all. But other than that, consignment stores finding fun jewelry.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Mm-hmm. I never think to look at consignment stores that they're jewelry.
SPEAKER_03But I do think it's hard to find jewelry right now. Yeah. Like it's hard to find fashion jewelry right now because it's so trendy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I always forget filigree is it's amazing. Unbelievable. It really is. They have some they have some good stuff. Besides having Bluebird, which is an amazing store, and we all love it. I know you do some personal styling as well. Can you talk a little bit about that?
SPEAKER_03So I have a handful of clients and I go to their house, I don't know, once a season, a few times a season. It just depends on what they need. But I go over there to do outfits for them to get dressed every single day. So I'll come over and they're like, I have this event, I have this, I have this, I have this, and I don't know what to wear every day. So I make them try on all their clothes because you can't do it without trying it on to see what looks good together. And then I make them take their own selfie so they have all their pictures in their camera roll of what they're gonna wear for the next month or two months, however they decide how to do it.
SPEAKER_01So smart.
SPEAKER_03They are they are you can pay me hourly, but no one does, or you can pay the store, or you can just buy stuff for the store. So every time I go to someone's house, it's like a $1,500 surcharge, but you can spend it in the store. So you spend that in the store, and then I come over for like three hours, and you you literally will have you don't have to get dressed for a long time because you're gonna have pictures of everything. It is really, really nice.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_03The other service that I do a ton of, which I love someone to do this for me too, is traveling. I pack you for a trip. I I I come over and and pack you for a trip, and it makes your life so much easier. And I'd say that's what people love the best too. Because trap like packing for trips are so stressful. And have someone doing it and knowing what you need for the trips is the key. And people don't know. They're like, I've never been there, I don't know what to wear. And I kind of I really have been to a lot of places where I can I'll be like, This is what you need. So packing for trips is a big deal.
SPEAKER_01It's huge, it's huge. Because also, you know, when you're going places, you don't want to just you can't overpack. Like you don't know.
SPEAKER_03You don't want to overpack, but you don't want to overpack. You also want new things. Everyone wants new things for a trip. You just feel better. So it's like you're all you're getting the new things anyways. You might as well have someone come and pack you to make your life easier. That's amazing. So you'll actually bring the items with, or or they come to Bluebird, this is what I want, either way, or I bring the items, whatever they prefer. It depends on how well I know the person. And it is really getting you down to this many shoes, this many bags, so you don't have to bring so much stuff because you don't know what to wear.
SPEAKER_01Well, and then you just have pictures of it all. So it's like, okay, this is Thursday night. All right, I got my this is my the what I'm wearing, the shoes, the purse.
SPEAKER_03Mixing and matching, so you don't have to bring that much stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. That's that's such a great service. Yeah, it's it's and also the the closet one, because I think, like I think about my closet, for example. Like I feel like it's overflowing with stuff. And I feel like I need to, well, I definitely need to have you come and help me with it. Because like I feel like instead of just like deal it, then I'll just like buy something new. It's like, no, just go shop. I need to just like be better at shopping my closet.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yes, and I do think some clients, I'll come to their house and we don't even get to the shopping or the outfits yet because I'm just taking stuff out. Because I think if you have too much stuff, you have too many options and you can't get dressed. And so it's about getting the old stuff out of your closet and keeping what's good and adding stuff to it. But I, you know, like I always say, if you haven't worn something in two years, you're not gonna wear it. And you have those regretful buys, but it's like they don't make you feel good. You gotta get rid of them.
SPEAKER_01And if you're not kind like going to it for a while, you probably don't know want it anymore. No. And I mean, I have some stuff in there where I'm like, I I just need to get this out of my closet. And then you just kind of forget, or you just you're busy or you're trying to get ready or you're late, and uh that that closet thing is huge. I do think a lot of probably actually saves money in a way.
SPEAKER_03It saves money, it saves money, I think exactly, because you're not buying mistake buys from all these different stores. Like it really does save you money. I also think most people know what they don't like and what they should get rid of, but then having me come over, they it's like you already knew all of this, but it's having that second eye being like, okay, I'm you're you are right, like you do not need this anymore.
SPEAKER_01You're someone to tell you, like, no, like Kaylee. Yeah, like yeah, let's look really like this is not yeah, but I do think the overflowing closets, it's too hard to get dressed.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Well, it is, and you just kind of get like it's fatigue, it's like you know, you're just I I so then I end up wearing kind of like the same rotating things, which is totally fine, but then I should kind of get rid of some the basic thing to me, the basics I think is where I struggle because sometimes it's not sexy or fun just to buy a white t-shirt.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so what I have noticed though, I just I went to a client's house and all of her clothes were so dressy, and she's like, but I don't ever wear these clothes. Right. And I was like, stop buying them. Yes because it is, it's like maybe you want this fun, dressy outfit for a trip, but then that's gonna sit on the back of your closet because you're not gonna wear it here. Right. So it is like they aren't fun, but that's why you put the colorful handbag, the fun shoe, the fun jacket with them is what makes them fun.
SPEAKER_01Right. And then that whole outfit feels more elevated. So that's why I'm trying to be like, I need and quite frankly, the basics are what you're gonna be wearing on a daily basis. Yes. I mean, I have these are I have these white tank tops. I have about five of them that I bought from you guys. Um, it's that perfect, yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_03That's a great, that's a great line.
SPEAKER_01And I have like five white tank tops that I've that I've bought from you guys and t-shirts, and it's what I wear the most. Yeah. People bought their stuff. People love their t-shirts, their tanks, yeah. The basics. Yeah. So if someone was gonna go into your store and you know, they were they were new to your store and kind of trying to sort of figure out, I guess, like kind of what their style is, what would you say like okay, these are the three items you like I would I want you to leave with from Bluebird?
SPEAKER_03A new sweater, new t-shirts, and a oh, I'm gonna say four. Yeah. The jackets. The ja like right now, people are like, I already have a denim jacket. No, I bet you don't. Like, I bet your denim jackets, like right now, the denim trend in denim jackets totally being updated. So I feel like that's huge. But having the new update, like having the crop trench, the new updated denim jacket, like that's huge because you're wearing it every day. Yeah. I think that's the most important. Having the updated jeans, yeah, and having the new t-shirt, new sweater.
SPEAKER_01I think that that's like and those are four items that are easy, you know, easy classic items.
SPEAKER_03We're selling a lot like the longer trenches are big still, too.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_03But like the jacket that you're gonna throw on every day, because it it's what you see first. Right. It is what you see first, yeah. Which is such a good the denim jacket thing, and a dated denim jacket thing can throw off. Your whole vibe. So people are putting on the cutest outfits and then they have their denim jacket. I'm like, you no, denim jackets have changed so much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they it it seems like everything. They've evolved a lot. Uh-huh. And what's the deal with denim on denim?
SPEAKER_03I love it. Another trend I don't love on myself. But I love it on other people. I try it, it doesn't work on me. But I love it. But I love it.
SPEAKER_01What will you wear? I could do it.
SPEAKER_03Everything but denim.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So like a dress.
SPEAKER_03Like right now, I just took home this um denim top that I love, and I and I'm bringing home like the zebra, like these zebra that these zebra pants I thought I would never wear. They're white and black. Cute with this denim top. So I do more like skirts and like white jeans or these zebra jeans. So anything really but denim. But again, like I love it and I put it on. I'm like, I just doesn't, yeah, it's not my vibe.
SPEAKER_01I haven't been able to it looks so good on people.
SPEAKER_03It looks so good on people.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. Isn't it called like the Canadian tuxedo?
SPEAKER_03Canadian tuxedo, yeah. I do think if the denim matches, if it comes as a set, I'm I'm more likely to wear it. But yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And then so the styling business, that's amazing. And then does Bluebird have well, and I'm a new client for sure, and I know a lot of other people will be, because I I knew you did that, but I don't think I realize like how with like the full service of it, and that sounds unbelievable. And I love the idea of like, okay, if you're buying the clothes anyways, you're buying the clothes anyways.
SPEAKER_03Might as well. I'm shocked that people don't take advantage of it. Yeah, like you're buying the clothes anyways, take advantage of it. Yes. And you might not like it, but you're two hours of my free time to see if you do or not. Exactly. And I do think having someone help you get dressed and showing it's just a new eye to you know, like totally.
SPEAKER_01And we're all so busy. It's like it's so hard to sort of find the time to do it.
SPEAKER_03Um, and then so does Bluebird have any upcoming events? We have an event with Citizens of Humanity on May 28th. Amazing. So it'll be like a day event. I'm not sure about details yet, it's just the beginning, and we usually don't have events, so I'm excited. Oh, that's amazing. So it'll be at your store. Yeah, our store.
SPEAKER_01And is it open to the public? Yes, okay, great. Stay tuned for details. Okay, we'll make sure to to link that. That's I love their stuff. Yeah, love. They have their whole collection is great. Yes, and they've kind of evolved from just they always evolve.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Yeah, the tops, the jackets. They have great jackets. And a goldie is their sister. So we when we they're their they're their sister line, they're their down line. So when we they're all the I think. So a goldie and citizens are all in one showroom.
SPEAKER_01So they're part of the same company.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01I you guys have some great A-Goldie jeans. Great. I love their jeans. And they're a good price point. They're a great price point. And they're comfortable. And yeah, some of my favorite jeans are just like the throw-on ones. Yep. Are super comfortable. Um, okay, amazing. Well, I'm super excited for that event. I will definitely be there. Uh, thank you so much for coming on. I seriously, I mean, I learned so much. Uh, I'm excited, and I know, I mean, I'm very excited for these items too. I'm like, that's not going back. That's not going back. Uh, but so appreciate you coming on, and it was extremely helpful. And people can find you at Bluebird. And for your styling, where is uh the best place for them to contact you?
SPEAKER_03I would say Instagram.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Instagram or email.
SPEAKER_01Slide in slide into your DMs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. On Bluebird or my or my own personal. Okay. Wonderful. Well, thank you so much.
SPEAKER_01Really appreciate you coming on. Thank you.
unknownYeah.
