In this episode Kaley sits down with Sal Rodriguez — a makeup artist with over 20 years in the industry who started behind the chair from a very young age. One thing to note is that his approach to beauty is anything but surface level. He shares his go-to products for a radiant, glowy complexion, his hot take on setting spray, why prep will always be the secret weapon, and the one thing most people are spending their money on wrong. He also gets into why wanting to feel good isn’t something any mom should feel guilty about, and tells a story about a wedding day that will stick with you long after you listen.

Sal Rodriguez has been at the pulse of luxury beauty for over 20 years, working across makeup counters, celebrity sets, editorial, and super bowl productions. His brand is rooted in one belief: that championing women through beauty is the most rewarding work there is. Sal's goal is simple: help people feel and own their power by bringing out what’s already there!

SPEAKER_01

Hi, and welcome back to Reality Renewed. Today we have the amazing Sal Rodriguez on.

SPEAKER_00

You're gonna make me blush.

SPEAKER_01

Which I'm so, so excited about. He is truly like the goat. You are. I met you a few years ago now.

SPEAKER_00

We just talked about this not that long ago about how when is our anniversary?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I we I feel like we still haven't figured it out. We still haven't. It's a few years ago.

SPEAKER_00

For sure.

SPEAKER_01

And all of my favorite photos, and any time I feel like the most confident, like I look my best, is when you and Pearl come and do your magic.

SPEAKER_00

I love it.

SPEAKER_01

And you're just like my little glam squad, but also my friends. Yes. And we have the best time where we just like sit in the kitchen and drink some wine. I mean, as we're doing now.

SPEAKER_03

And talk hot topics.

SPEAKER_01

And talk hot topics. Yes, exactly. All the tea. And you know, you know my kids so well. You've done like my girl's glam. They still tell like when Sal comes, you're like, wait, when's he gonna do my hair? It's like, uh honey, mama's going out. But then I turn this. But then you always end up doing your hair makeup anyway.

SPEAKER_00

You know, it's contagious. I always say that. Glam is contagious.

SPEAKER_01

As I chug my wine. I love it. It's officially, it's you know, it's happy hour too. It's happy. So I just so appreciate you coming on.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so excited, and I'm so proud of Reality Renewed. I'm proud of you. I think I love sitting in the hot pink seat.

SPEAKER_01

Yay!

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm excited to dig in.

SPEAKER_01

Well, amazing. So why don't you just tell people I mean, I feel like everyone knows you, but for those who don't yet, yeah, tell them a little bit about yourself.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'll say this. I think for the uh renewing of reality. Yes. Um, Edina has become such a background for me now that I feel like this is probably what's gonna be, you know, our our final flower is the idea that we come into like reality renewed with you, who is uh a resident of a place that has been so good to me. Um I love doing makeup, I love what I do. I think it is palpable even to my clients, like you feel it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, I've been doing makeup now for over 20 years. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_01

You started when you were 10.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Um I should have got a little Botox for this, but you know what, honey. Nothing a little goo won't fix. Um but yeah, makeup artists, and I I love what I do. I have a retail partner not far from here at Cause Bar who are incredible. Talk about elevating makeup to a niche level and yet still allowing for partnerships like mine that can go out and you know, I I don't ever see you in store, but I see you at your home, which I think is such an intimate way. And a modern way of doing glam now is we all want what's um much more convenience. You know, we all want convenience and time is precious. So I feel like if you you are able to get that in your home, it is such a joy.

SPEAKER_01

It really is the best because I like the fact that I can be wearing like the jankiest robe and you know what I mean, like just come down looking disheveled.

SPEAKER_00

Our last um reel, and I love this. Oh my god, I love this for you, is so divine in the sense that if that doesn't give you a taste of what we do, like what else would, right? Right. It's like you come down and you're like, just I'm in trusted hands, have at it. Totally. And it's gorgeous. I love it. I love it. I'm envious of your um savviness with social media that I wish I could be a little bit better at.

SPEAKER_01

I will be totally honest. Shout out to Uma. Uh, she does it all. She's so amazing. She, I just I sent it to her. She gives me the idea that it's like. Isn't it just her and she comes together? I mean, she I'm not no I'm the worst at social media. I'm right behind you. I just got Instagram, like not that long ago. Like, I don't even know, like half the time, I don't even know what I'm doing. So, anyways, uh so happy you're here. Obviously, like the makeup artist, you know, beauty influencer. I mean, you have a big following because you are absolutely amazing uh about at what you do.

SPEAKER_00

You know, and after two over two decades, you if if you are not at a place where you need to be, then maybe it's time for something else. So I I am grateful for all my people. I am grateful for um, I don't know, that this career that has enlightened me with so many wonderful people. One being you. I mean, I I rejoice in saying all the time my clients are the best humans that you could find out there that appreciate both the craft, the person, and also the fact that, you know, it it takes a little bit of more effort to get people to your home than it would be just to go and sit in the middle of a department store while everyone else is walking by shopping.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and how did you get started into makeup?

SPEAKER_00

I worked at a department store. Okay. I was a counter gal. I was a counter gal for a very long time. And it was a little bit different in those days, I would say. I mean, counter gals were a little bit more revered. We I got to travel with NARS Cosmetics, who is who I worked with both coast to coast, got to do some really amazing um personal appearances at some stores that you know I would leave my entire paycheck at.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I was here for work, but I left empty-handed. Yes. Um it was just uh 12 fun years, and then I realized that I had eclipsed that. You know, it wasn't bringing me joy anymore. I wanted a little bit more, and then I branched out on my own. I uh took all my great clients, some who are still with me. Amazing. Uh, the Browns I I've I've met from my counter days. And Pearl. I mean, I mean Pearl worked together in our youth, and here we are as seasoned gals. Big shout out to our girl, Pearl. She's the best. That laugh is infectious.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, she's just the best. So would love to talk now, kind of, because we've we've talked about what we wanted to sort of get into, and it's funny. I just think like you're such a wealth of knowledge with beauty and all the things, but like it's like I have so many questions and you've all the answers. I love it. But I guess first, like, you know, there's so many trends right now with beauty, uh, and I feel like they kind of come and go.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

What would you say are sort of like the tried and true makeup looks that you're just gonna like you'll still look good now than in 2010? You know what I mean? Like it's not gonna like go. Like, I know like you know, the major contouring and everything was in, but like what's kind of like the where you're just like this is these are the couple things that like you should just do that are sort of time-lapse.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. I think complexion, complexion, complexion. You I just walked into your home and I was like, oh my god, Kaylee, your skin is beautiful. It is the first thing anyone notices. It is it is something that is so eye-catching that whether it's good or bad, because if you see someone with a bad orange complexion, then you're like, ooh, I'm miss on that one. But I think it's always been a staple, right? And as you grow into your makeup knowledge personally, you also get to understand what kind of finishes you like, whether you like something that's a little bit more radiant, you like something that's a little bit more matte, you like a middle of the ground. Um uh eternally youthful as we go for radiance now, you know. And I think that's something that's going to stay, much like a bold eyebrow. Um, we're no longer shaving those puppies off, right? I mean, oh my gosh. R.I.P. Pam Anderson.

SPEAKER_01

Um I I look back, I used to have a serious and why. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And no one told me that having those tadpoles for eyebrows was just not that sexy. Um, so I think, you know, like good a good complexion goes a long way. I mean, you can have the a glowy complexion, a pop of little lip gloss, and it's just presentable in any any single space. Um, I'll say one of my um uh recurring clients always say, and one of the best things they champion is I love the way you do complexion. Yes. The way you do my skin, it is something that I can't achieve, and I keep on coming back.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

And I think it it that is the confidence builder today. I just came from shooting uh with Miss uh Minnesota for Miss USA. And the what the first thing she said when she looked in the mirror was, I have struggled with acne my entire life, and to look in the mirror and see how perfect my skin is. Oh my god. And in yeah, you instill that confidence that now beams throughout the entire day, regardless of what event you're facing.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So Piggy backing off that, what would you say like your favorite products are like to get to achieve sort of that radiant, glowy look?

SPEAKER_00

I think also understanding seasonal um uh products and how you approach them is genius. Uh in the dry winter months for us that live here, is you want radiance, you want hydration in the hot, humid months. Maybe not gravitate towards that as much as something a little bit more matte because radiance will come the second you start wearing that makeup, right? Um, I love a tinted moisturizer in the summer, I think it's unbeatable. A lot of uh of my professional kit is no longer heavy foundations, they're just tinted moisturizers. I mean, you might want to ditch sunscreen for photos behind any kind of filming screen, but I think understanding uh the seasonal approach to makeup goes a very long way. You know, like cater to your skin and what your skin needs at that time.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's a great point because in the winter I feel like I'm doing sort of like a heavier moisturizer under you know, because you do like you like a primer.

SPEAKER_00

I love a primer. I you have to prep skin, especially if you're going out and doing much more glam. I would say that is something that you cannot miss. The prep is so important because it doesn't matter how good a foundation you're wearing, if you don't take the time to prep with a primer or a really good moisturizer, it it isn't going to show its peak.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so what's the best primer?

SPEAKER_00

Oh god, right now I am obsessed, you guys. I had to bring it. I had to bring it. Uh, this is from Barbara Sturm. Barbara Honey Babs. The Bab has launched a peptide serum and it has the term serum in it. You can use it both over and under. But I've been using this as a primer for any client I have. Okay. It's smooth, it's super hydrating without sticky or without any kind of um excess film on the skin. Sometimes when you go too heavy on priming, and I'm sure some of the listeners might have experienced this, where you start to pill a little bit, that we're we're overdoing it. This sinks in, it gives what it needs to give, and your makeup will never last longer. It is incredible. It's a dropper, it comes in a little dropper guy. Um, you could do pre-post, like I said. Post for priming for sure, but also nothing is hotter.

SPEAKER_01

You do primer after makeup too?

SPEAKER_00

No, I do post moisturizer because you could do this before moisturizer as well.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, wait. You're supposed to use primer and moisturizer? Yeah. Oops of daisies.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Allow them to do their role. You know, your moisturizer is huge, it is what you need to keep that skin barrier healthy. Your primer is what you want to bridge that skincare to that makeup, right? A lot of them have a little bit more of a tacky feel so that the makeup had something to adhere to. Um, there was a time where I was very anti-setting sprays because I found them to be unnecessary. And I still kind of struggle internally with that. I mean, I always use one. I feel like more than anything, as someone who is getting glam, it gives you that, okay, we're done. Yes. It kind of puts that like je ne sais quoi at the end. You know, like you, you and then you're like, oh my god, okay, we're done. You're right. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, does it do something for the longevity? I don't know. I think the prep is really what does the longevity purpose.

SPEAKER_01

I I don't know. I just want to let you know. The whole prep you do, obviously, I was just tired after the gal I went to. And I went to sleep after eating some McDonald's. Honey, you did it right. And I woke up, put in the mirror. My makeup looks perfect.

SPEAKER_00

Vintage glam, honey. It was vintage glam.

SPEAKER_01

I'm sure it wasn't sleeping like this. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

When I woke up, I was like, oh my gosh, I'm taking this to brunch.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, my makeup still looks perfect.

SPEAKER_00

The amount of people that say that to me is crazy. Like, oh hi, you'll see me, but I'm in vintage glam from the night before, including the lash.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it was amazing. So what I you you really do, it sets perfectly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you and once again, it's all about the way you prep. I mean, you moisturize, you do want to prime.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have a favorite moisturizer that you like to use? Or I mean, because you want it to be lightweight, right?

SPEAKER_00

I have reverted back to, which is going to tell my age. I am into La Mer right now.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh, I forget about LaMaire.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so into the um light moisturizing lotion because now there's like 15 different schemes for it. But it's so pretty. The smell is nostalgic. And it isn't the regular that's super, super heavy, but it's a little bit of a lighter approach. And I find myself using that on every single client, regardless of age.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So you do that, and then I find it.

SPEAKER_00

Then I do the barber peptide on top, and then the tinted moisturizer. And then tinted moisturizer.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so even though it says moisturizer.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the tinted moisturizer, it doesn't it only says that because it doesn't offer too much coverage.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't necessarily replace your moisturizer at all. And it shouldn't. Okay. Um, I mean, none of us want to put on a moisturizer that has that much makeup. I mean, imagine our sheets and pillowcases, honey. Um not to say that I haven't gone to bed with my my goo on, and then I wake up and I'm like, oh, orange.

SPEAKER_01

I mine was like, I was like, it's not even on my I have white pillowcases. I'm like, it looks normal.

SPEAKER_00

We're taking this up for a spin. Yes. I love it. Exactly. Yeah. Uh intended moisturizer in the summer. I think it's such a joy. It it way less work than foundation. You don't have to blend as much. You can use your fingers. It allows you a little bit more room for air than let's say a medium to full coverage foundation that you have to put in a little elbow grease to blend it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay, so now those are that's the best. Now, what are like the worst beauty mistakes people make? Or like you're like, ooh, cringe.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, you know, I'll I'll say this because I think it's important. Um, I when I worked with the man, the myth of legend, Francoin Ars, for him, it was there's no rules to make up, right? Whatever f floats your boat. But what I will say is sometimes the overusage of bronzer is a lot. You know, like if we're missing chiseling features and we're just like dumping our face in an entire bronzer, and I've been a victim of this in my youth.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, same.

SPEAKER_00

Um, it's like, why why did we put it on? Why did we put anything underneath if we were just gonna douse a bronzer all over? I think using it purposefully and with its intent is so beneficial. Like it's meant to warm, it's meant to chisel. You could do so many awesome things, use it as an eyeshadow, but when you put it on everywhere, it it it's a miss. It misses the fact that it's going to enhance. Now we just look a little bit well.

SPEAKER_01

It was like coming back, like the over bronze. I was like, no, like can we not have that come back? Like that was because I look back at like pictures in high school and it's like my whole face is just bronze. Like I have no features, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

White goggles.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

The white goggles from concealer. Yes. Yeah, I would say that. That is probably somewhat of a bother.

SPEAKER_01

And what about so kind of talking going into that? Like, are there products, you know, because everyone talks about like, okay, you have to always have like the most high-end products. Do you think like there are some products where you're like, we don't, you don't, you don't need to buy high with that?

SPEAKER_00

Um, here's my rule of thumb on that. And I I stick to that personally myself. I think if it's going to sit on your skin for more than five minutes, you should spend a little bit extra scratch on it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

But if you're someone that wears mascara religiously and you say, you know what, I throw this out every th every 30 days, I'm gonna go to the drugstore. I think that's okay. I think that is such a okay thing because we replace that item so often. And also, I was just at a drugstore not that long ago, and drugstore prices aren't drugstore prices anymore.

SPEAKER_01

No, no.

SPEAKER_00

I meascara from the drugstore is $15 to $20. Right. I was like, wait, what happened with the $4 on? It's like, what's going on?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, remember the paint the like Maybelline paint? Great Lash, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Great Lash is still out there, it's still out there, it's still selling.

SPEAKER_01

My daughter uses it, she loves it.

SPEAKER_00

Totally, and it's no longer $4. No. So all this stuff is on the up and up. Yeah. So I'd say, like, skincare, spend a couple extra bones. Complexion, spend a couple extra bones. Color, give or take. You know, a a bunch of um kids use Milani. I haven't call me a little bit of an elitist, but I like Milani. It's it's a drugstore brand. Um, very lots of baked colors, bronzers, blushes. They all look cool. A bunch of influencers, probably because they get paid. Yeah. But um, use them. E.l.f. is having this like massive renaissance right now. Um, but I think for color, it it's an easy thing to to skimp out on. Okay. But definitely splurge on items that are going on to our skin. The idea that green beauty um is staying and not going anywhere has to resonate with all of us. You know, and green beauty costs a lot more because it costs more to make. And it ditches out all the bad stuff that's in there for us. You know, parabens now the enemy. You can't say that on drugstore items, right? If it's cheap, it's meant that it isn't particularly coming with the best quality of ingredients.

SPEAKER_01

That's a great point. Yeah. So for those who don't know, green beauty. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like we're we're ditching parabens, we're ditching synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, um, carcinogens in general are um something that it it's it's not gonna go anywhere. I think.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's not like people are gonna obviously. Right.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? Throw me some carcinogens, honey. I'm in desperate need. Um, and I think that's that that's not gonna change. I think the customer is becoming savvier now than ever. Social media has really taken the curtain down on a lot of brands, and even brands that have been such um a staple in all of our makeup bags are now revisiting formulas to ditch all those ingredients that now we all know we don't like and fear, right? So that's not gonna change. And yeah, it costs a little bit more to go clean for sure. Westman Atelier really kind of kicked the um I love that brand. She really Gucci Westman really did um kind of take the goggles off and and from beginning to end, her brand is clean. Uh Barbara Sturm is another one that really came out from the gate with just clean ingredients, purposeful, um, in their intent. And the idea is that it's one of those brands that are doing better than ever now. I mean, as older brands like Water have gone back to revisit their recipes and formulas because that's what the customer's looking for now.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And I think people are, you know, with anything, like whether it's nutrition or you know, like a lot of people are looking into ingredients on what they're eating. Yeah. It shouldn't be any different than what you're putting on your face.

SPEAKER_00

And we wear it for eight hours a day.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And your skin's the biggest organ of your body.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Look at me, like a scientist over here.

SPEAKER_00

Genius.

SPEAKER_01

But I mean, so it makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

But it's so true. And even us common gals that aren't scientists are now looking for that ourselves. We want clean stuff to go in our bodies and on our uh bodies as well. Absolutely. And it doesn't just stop with makeup and skincare. It's body care as well.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. So what so I know we talked about like skin matching and like the over bronzing. Like, is there kind of a rule of thumb on like how to map make sure you have a good match?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

I think I'm sure that's also another beauty mistake that you see.

SPEAKER_00

I think instead of swiping down here or trying to match, we need to start matching the center of our face. This is a focal point where everyone looks at us. When I look at you, I'm looking here, right?

SPEAKER_01

That's so interesting. Because I feel like you take a look at the thing.

SPEAKER_00

I always go here, right? But this area is never gonna be a a true telling. I would like to wear like a sun.

SPEAKER_01

When I also like to wear like that sometimes, you know, as you age, I'm like, can I just have like a turtle neck up to here?

SPEAKER_00

Like, honey, I stare at my neck every single day. Same. Oh god. Yes. Another topic.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Oh my gosh. So, yeah, you that's interesting. So matching here.

SPEAKER_00

I always would go here. I think it's it's the most telling sign of A, what skin tone you are currently. A lot of us tend to change from winter to summer. Um, unfortunately, there are some, and you know, no Tino shade on that, but there are some that stay abundantly white throughout the year. But some of us change from our winter to summer, so it's nice to go here because that is a a focal point. I also would say concealer is has been a hot topic amongst me and my friends in the sense that we're now looking for much more hydration than we are coverage. We're not taking up concealer anymore. You know, we're not parking it right under the eye to enhance all the crinkles. We're really going now top of the cheekbone, blending upward. And talk about giving the face that beautiful um focal point. It's also just very youthful. Um, a good girlfriend of mine was desperate for a concealer and she was like, I don't want anything heavy. I don't, and I was like, I understand. I understand. It's it's my Achilles heel, my under-eye. And hydrating concealers are where it's at.

SPEAKER_01

So what's your favorite?

SPEAKER_00

I brought it, honey.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I brought it. Of course, you do it.

SPEAKER_00

What it's Oprah's favorite things? No, Kaylee's new things.

SPEAKER_01

Um well it's perfect because it's silly, honey.

SPEAKER_00

It's where it's at. It's got a metal applicator. Of course, I just lubricated my paws, so I can't even get it. But it does have a cute metal applicate applicator, super hydrating. They all have a little bit of a color correction to them. So you're killing two birds with one stone, and the hydration is just insanity. So good that the same friend that I recommended this to has now sent five other gals because they see how pretty and how nice it wears. Okay. Our under-eye is the only area in our face that doesn't have oil glands. So we don't produce any oil down there. So the idea is that if you use something that's hydrating and smoothing, so do you put it? Like should you just kind of I wouldn't go, you know, here's uh an artist's tip. For me is if you park concealer right under the eye, what it does, it's all that product is just going to collect there. I like to go top and blend upward so that the excess isn't just right there where we're expressionful. All of us have an expression, an expression line, or a couple more where they tend to settle for me for sure. I mean, so I try to go a little lower, blend upward.

SPEAKER_01

And what's your favorite? Do you just use like a blending?

SPEAKER_00

I like a I like a sponge. Oh, I do like a sponge.

SPEAKER_01

The beauty blender.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, especially for under eye. It picks up the excess, deposits what you need to. I really have warmed up to sponges. There was a time in my life where I was so not into it. I still believe that it eats up about half of your product anyway. But I I like that it picks up the excess, deposits what needs to go on there, and you get such a pretty flawless finish from it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, now I'm like looking at all the items I need to buy. Um, looking at my notes. Okay, so skincare versus makeup. Where do you think you should put your coins in? Where to invest more, would you say?

SPEAKER_00

Ooh. I you know, I would say skincare. Okay. I would say skincare. I think if your skin is banging, the rest is null and void. You know, you don't really need it. We see this with our girl Pearl, who has the most stunning skin.

SPEAKER_01

Unbelievable.

SPEAKER_00

And she doesn't wear much of makeup. But that's because she puts all her effort, energy in the skincare aspect of her approach. She loves a good moisturizer, she lives for a good serum, and she really got me onto essences. Are you an essence user? Like where you take it's like a think of it as a toner, but instead of balancing a pH, it really preps the skin for what follows. I can't not live without an essence. I just can't.

SPEAKER_01

Is that a brand?

SPEAKER_00

Or is it a bunch of brands have essences right now? I I'm, you know, using the top, the top of the chain with la prairie, la pray.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yes. But um And it's just called essence.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's their refining essence. It's beautiful.

SPEAKER_01

I how is it like a toner?

SPEAKER_00

Think of it as a toner, but instead of using a cotton pad, you put it on your hand and you press onto the skin and follow it with your serum and your moisturizer. And the idea is that um it allows for your skin to be softened for the following ingredients and and products to actually sink into the skin.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not kidding you. I've never heard of essence.

SPEAKER_00

It is, it's it's quite an eastern thing, I would say. It's definitely much more like the Japanese have really perfected it. LaPurri happens to be Swiss, but Clay de Poe has a beautiful essence, that's a Japanese brand as well. And it think of picking up a spill with the dry dry sponge versus a damp sponge. The damp sponge is going to absorb that a lot faster than a dry one, right? So that's the concept of an essence. I live for one. Pearl got me onto onto that a long time ago. And I think they're just they're revolutionary in their ways. Now you can find an essence that's refining, you can find some that are brightening. So sun, if you were a sun worshiper and you want something brightening, some of those, you know, creepy crawlers that are coming, showing up, honey, treasonous uh from all of our sun years. You can like the one that I'm using right now is uh the skin caviar brightening essence. So it really helps with like sunspots, H spots, that kind of stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Was it called anything before, or has it always been called essence?

SPEAKER_00

I think it essence has really kind of came to in the early thousands. Because before we were into this Clinique three-step, right? Where you put that acetone on your face and hope for the better. Um Tlinique, but honey, if it removes nail polish, what are we doing? Um I mean, did you ever use that? The Clinique Three-step?

SPEAKER_01

Like I'm sure.

SPEAKER_00

Honey. Acetone. I mean, you pass out when you put it on. But now they've really come into the from the early thousands forward. They've really made a splash. Like I said, you can get some that are exfoliating, lots of nice cinamite if you're if pores happen happen to be a concern. Um, they've they've really changed the skincare game a lot. I mean, K Beauty's here to stay as well. Whether you whether we like it or they're paid endorsements, they're not changing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but that's kind of a a similar approach.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, amazing. So what about as we age? I mean, obviously you and I are really young and we're aging gracefully. But are there certain things that you that you feel like are the best kind of anti-aging techniques?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think um there's a brand called 111 Skin that I love, and they've really changed up the game. Uh, when we want instant results, I always say makeup is so instant gratification, right? They do sheet masks that are insane. Uh I mean you can walk out here like a robot if you do their entire I mean, they have a sheet mask for here, for here, the double on the face, the eye, and they work miraculous, miraculously well if you've got a special event, if you're celebrating something special. Um, outside of that, I think a good serum is really where it's at.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

That's what's gonna give you the most concentrated, anti-aging. Any ingredient is gonna be much more concentrated in a serum than there would be in anything else. Peptides happen to be the buzzword right now, such as peptide serum. Um so yeah, I mean, and that that kind of changes, you know, peptides uh increase collagen production in our skin. That's what causes some of the premature aging, is we tend to produce a lot less. You know, the more fun we have, the more party, the more this, the more that it takes it takes a toll. So, you know, crack that baby out. I need that next gala. Dump something like cocktail, honey. It's good from the outside.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh. I love it. Okay, so Oh, let's talk about confidence.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, like the idea that getting your makeup done or you doing your own makeup is such a confidence builder. And I want to say this in general with you because you have three girls. Three girls that can sit in the chair and even watch mom get glam and then see the enlightenment on their eyes to be like you look pretty in the after. And it's the you don't need makeup to build confidence, but it's so nice to witness confidence happening.

SPEAKER_03

Do you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_00

Like the idea that you these young girls are like, wait, well, maybe I want my hair and makeup done. Yes. Right? Those are like core memories that will always resonate with them is the idea that I may not need to get my makeup done, but if I need it, I yeah, I know what's going to get me out of a rut. Or if I'm feeling a little down today, crack open a little lip gloss, put a little blush on. Yes. Um, it is uh I remember the last time I was with your girls, and um was it Avery that said to me, I just want bronzer today, Sal. No blush. Yeah, like how cute is that to be assertive in that and to also know what makes you feel pretty versus like whatever the standard may be. Right. You know, I think that is so cool.

SPEAKER_01

I I agree, and I think it's so great how the gener the younger generation is getting is caring more about skincare. I mean, I laugh when I walk into my girls' rooms, it looks like it's a fucking Sephora.

SPEAKER_00

But like drunk elephant everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and like the but like the stuff that they're using, you know, are like they're using you know these clean ingredients, and I think it's so good, like especially for my girls, and you know, they Ruby wears like a little bit of mascara. I mean, and Avery doesn't wear much, but just the fact that they're caring more about like their skincare and just wanting to make sure like you know, they're healthy in the inside, but like also, you know, on the outside and making better choices. I mean, I I can't even imagine what I was like at that age when I was putting on my skin.

SPEAKER_00

And oh god, yeah, it was probably crap, honey. I mean, I'm surprised we're still standing. We're survivors. We are survivors, we sure are. Um yeah, no, but that that in itself also self-care has come such a long way. It has you know, you could do it so unabashed and um it no judgment, right? Versus before um someone that took that much time, it's like, oh my god, you're so vain, or you're this, or you're that. And now it's become, you know what, it it's it's something that's we can applaud because it is character building and confidence and instilling. So I I I love that. I like that I get to see that with my clients with daughters, absolutely, or my clients with children in general. I mean, you'd be surprised the amount of boys that look at their mom and they're like, Mom, you look so beautiful. Yeah. And like, how cool is that to see?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. I was and I think like too, like as a mom, you know, uh like I would say 90% of the time I look like a train wreck, you know. Yeah, and it's nice to like I have, you know, workout clothes on, there's like spills, and I'm not wearing makeup, my hair is like in a side ponytail, you know what I mean? And like, and so it is like that feeling where it's like kind of like you know, treating yourself and like knowing like okay, that's okay. Like, it is okay to spend a little bit of money on myself to feel just to like feel good and kind of like get out of that, like, you know, kind of the mom mode of where we like feel like we and then you know, I I think as moms, we need to stop this whole thing of like you know, we're being selfish if we care a little bit about like how we look or if we're taking care of ourselves. And it's absolutely it's it's the whole it's back to that whole thing of you know, like when you're on a plane and they say, you know, put your mask on. And I truly think like if I'm not showing up the best for myself and feeling good about myself, that's I'm sorry, I have three daughters, like I don't that's gonna somehow transfer to them.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and I couldn't agree, and I have worked hard on it.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I you know, for a lot of years, like I feel guilty, like you know, I I joke like I get my lashes done every two weeks, you know. Like I I would always like want to hide it, and I'm like, no, like it's high maintenance to be low maintenance, you know? Like, yeah, and I just think like as moms, like we shouldn't feel bad that if we want to care about ourselves.

SPEAKER_00

I I couldn't agree more. I think taking down those those veils of judgment has a been hard, but also once you do it, it's so liberating, right? You no longer have to hide that you get your lashes done, you no longer have to hide that, like I want to get my brows permanently microbleated. Yes. Or and and truly what you're doing is setting yourself up for success because it's less time that you have to spend in quote the mirror, right? It's like you're choosing to use your time wisely and whatever that may be for you as an individual, do it because it ultimately is what not only do you show up better for others, you show you show others how good it is to show up for yourself.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, and Sal, that was deep.

SPEAKER_00

Put the stick on out. But I I you know, you have to. I think the the beauty industry itself has grown to a level where it's much deeper now than it is just putting quote makeup on. You know, you get I am lucky that I get to see all aspects of it, and sometimes it is so inspiring for me. I was doing a wedding where um the husband of the grandmother of the bride um had dementia and it was pretty bad. And he saw her in glam and remembered her name, remembered their age when they got married, and said, You look exactly like when we got married. And talk about something that is so awe-inspiring, and everyone in the room was like emotional over how um inspirational it can be at times, you know? Absolutely, and think of her who struggles with the idea of her husband that doesn't remember a thing, and to remember you the validation and the satisfaction that you got that all those perhaps bumps on the road are worth it for a couple core phenomenal memories.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's such a beautiful scene.

SPEAKER_00

It's incredible, it's it it's it's make the world of beauty has become so much more world-rounded.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Um okay, so would love to hear this. Well, two questions. What is the one product that you would take with you to a desert island?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, blush. Blush.

SPEAKER_01

Really?

SPEAKER_00

I've been uh working on my fitness lately hard. You look um phenomenal. Uh I wore all black today. Um and I find myself putting on sunscreen when I go on these like, you know, out outdoor walks, etc. And blush. So I'll do my my dutiful SPF since I'm gonna be out on the streets, and then I go in with my blush. Okay. I think for me, it makes me feel dolled up enough. And I have like a complex. Like I can't leave my house, I can't put the garbage out without a little bit of beat on. I just can't. If it isn't like a little bit of balm with a little gloss on top, a little blush, you know, curl the lash. I I I just I can't. So blush. I I love blush.

SPEAKER_01

I love that. What's your favorite?

SPEAKER_00

Hourglass. They do beautiful blush. Whether it's cream or powder, uh exquisite, you can't go wrong. I mean, the OGs, the orgasms, the details from NARS are iconic. You can't mess that up. They also come in cream and powders now. Do you like are you more of a cream fan for blush or I think if you're looking for radiance, you definitely want to go creamy. Um, if you want quick, easy, great, you know, boom, boom, boom, out the door, powder's always easy.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And you know, now everyone does these like soft baked powders that are like so luminous that you can't even tell the difference between a cream or a powder. You know, you're like, oh, what a bamboozled, honey. Yeah. What is that? But yeah, I I blush. I love blush. Okay. And I love blush on my clients. Sometimes I have clients that are like, Sal, please, no blush. But you know, for those, we'll we'll we'll refrain. But I love blush.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I and it's so funny because I didn't wear a lot of blush till I started working with you. Really?

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I think it's such a like especially for your gorgeous face, it's such a change.

SPEAKER_01

And now I and now I like love it. Like I love blush.

SPEAKER_00

I just just a little, you know, a little bit uh and in my youth it used to be mascara. I'd be walking around out here with like Tammy Faye Baker, honey, with an eyelash that was two inches thick and didn't care at all. And now it's like I can't. I can't. I'm like, oh, get it off. But blush, blush, I love that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I love that. Okay, next question. What would you say is the biggest beauty myth?

SPEAKER_00

Biggest beauty myth. Oh, that's a toughie. What are beauty myths? What do you know of any?

SPEAKER_01

Like, I would say, you know, people how they used to be like, oh, your skin looks too like wet. Like it needs to be remember how I used to be like so matte.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah, you know, I'll say this. Here's a good one. Pearl and I have this conversation all the time. Like, um, the idea that we're doing too much, is there such a thing as too much? Like a lot of eye, a lot of cheek, a lot of lip. I would say, yeah. Like we could do too much. Like, pick a feature, focus on that one, and let the rest stay behind and let that moment shine.

SPEAKER_01

You do do a great job of that. And I learned that from you because when we you'll be like, okay, we're gonna do a bold dye today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then like the lips are kind of blasting, it's like sort of nude. Or, you know, let we're gonna be a little bit lighter with your eyes and you know, do a bolder lip.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. Um I think you have to do that. Otherwise, it's too distracting. It's too much. Yeah, it's too much. Although I do have clients that I like too much, you know. Working in the world of pageants, there's no such thing as too much. You think there's enough lash and more awnings, honey. I was like, geez, you blink one more time, honey. My wig's gonna fall right off. But yeah, no, I would say like pick a feature and and let that be the talking point.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I love that. Gosh, we've really covered a lot. We're doing so good. Okay, do we know about like viral viral trends I think are harmful or misleading? Is there anything around that or not really?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think so. I think you have to, you know, with the viral trend, we now becoming a savvy customer. Viral trends are truly like social media trickery.

SPEAKER_03

Do you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_00

Like the majority of these people, um, I don't know her name, but this person that puts like an entire jar of foundation and then blends it out, before you know it, it's like Zoom, look at me, I'm gorgeous, but I went through the whole tube of foundation. Like, that's clearly bamboozling and tamfoolery. Like that lady goes, washes her face. And then up applies an appropriate amount. Yeah, right. Like no one looks good with an entire ounce of foundation on their face. Yes. Um, so yeah, are they harmful? I think if you if you have a savvy eye for it, and also there's a beauty of trial and error, right? You try try putting on a whole tube of foundation on your face and see how that goes. So I, you know, I think we're becoming much savvier now and not easily bamboozled.

SPEAKER_01

There are just funny ones though. Like I went down a rabbit hole the other day and it was like, bone marrow and honey together, that's all you need for night cream. And I'm thinking to myself, I'm like, well, that would be easy to get some bone marrow. You know, I'm dating a chef, but also like, think of it.

SPEAKER_00

You'd also have an ant infestation, honey. Think of the pets.

SPEAKER_01

Think how stinky you would smell. I was like, bone marrow and honey on your face. And I went down this hole. Like, I watched so many videos of these women. I was like, their skin really does look good.

SPEAKER_00

Tomfoolery. I had a client, this is hysterical. I had a client of mine, and I love tallow. I love a tallow fry, honey. Big shout out to Dexters. Um, grape fry. And she was saying to me, I I kept on wondering, why is this foundation not sticking? Like, what is going on? And finally, I was like, hi, what'd you use on your face today? And she goes, Oh, I saw on a viral thing that people are using beef tallow as moisturizer. I was like, So you're putting beef grease on your face? That's not saturating, it's not sinking in. No, no wonder we're skating on your face with products. Um, yeah, we learned quickly, and she agreed that I go, what happens when you do your own makeup? And she said, you know, I've stopped. Gee, no wonder. You don't say. But yeah, those are those are alarming. I mean, and also if you're acne prone, it's curtains. Oh, I'm sure. Oh my god, beef tallow. What's next? Bacon greases, eye cream, and knuff. Oh, yeah. Like that's we've had a get the vegetable shortening out, honey.

SPEAKER_01

I it it it sounds, yeah, it just does not sound like it would be good. Okay, so we're talking about clients. Like, what is the weirdest thing a client has asked?

SPEAKER_00

Do you makeup wise let me clarify? Wow, honey. Is this after dark? We're going PG. Right, right, right. We're leaving the uh daytime sound waves. Yeah. Um uh concealing uh odd scars, bumps, bruises everywhere else. And you have to remind someone that I'm just here for makeup. I'm not here for the rest. Sometimes it's tough, especially with celebrities. You know, they're not used to hearing oh. I have someone that shall remain unmentioned who wanted me to cover um uh what are those called in the back of your heel? Um a blister? Um, yeah, but it's like clearly a blister that's been there for decades, you know? And I was like, I can't do that. I'm sorry. We're we're a pump that isn't showing the heel today. That's just also imagine stomping around with like melting concealer and foundation on the back of your heel. Like, that's not gonna you need let's be pragmatic about it, right? Or when someone's like, oh my god, please color correct my chest. Well, the dew point outside is 80. So um good luck with that orange stain that'll be like all around the dress, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, the phone's dropping because I can't believe this.

SPEAKER_00

Can't believe the tomfoolery. Yes, yeah, okay, so and then But there are odd odd requests, you would be floored. Um I think people just easily think that because you're such a magician with a face, you can fix everything else. We were doing um an event, and this person couldn't get their contacts in. And she asked me to go dig my finger in her eyeballs, and I said, ma'am, I can't. I'm what? Ophthalmologist? Who? Pearl ended up doing it because she's a she's a regular contact user, so maybe she was. But it is crazy that no bounds, no limits. Like, you know what? You can do my eye makeup. Why don't you come correct my cataracts? Enough.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I get even stressed out sometimes when you do my eyeliner and oh my god, imagine like digging in there, honey.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh, beat them.

SPEAKER_01

Who has been, you don't have to say the name, but like, what is like your worst client horror story? Like, did you have a client horror story where you're just like, I I still, I still wake up in the middle of the night with nightmares?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, I have a couple. Um I don't I have a somewhat of a B-list celebrity that I was work I still work with nonstop. I love her, and I don't think the intent was ever to be um ill or mean. But women are territorial, women are territorial of their people, and you know, Pearl comes with me everywhere. Everywhere. And she didn't like that. So for her, it was like the very um uh underhanded gestures were like she greeted me with a glass of champagne, but not Pearl, right? And this is at a hotel. So the idea is that like you could have easily asked for three glasses, but you chose not to refuse to even meet Pearl. So here's this awkward moment of like all of us in this small hotel room being like, Well, she's hard to miss. I know that's it's crazy, but it's it's it's rooted in the idea that like your makeup artist is quote, just my makeup artist, right? I don't want to share you with anywhere anyone else. So less malice, more territorial, I would say. And I encounter that a fair amount a fair amount. And have you had any like where you've just like what like where you've walked out where you're just like this is I have I think doing this for this long, anyone, I would say this if you feel like at all disrespected or like you're not being valued, it is so okay to give yourself that value and that credit.

SPEAKER_01

I have I'm sure you just get some crazy requests and some of it's like it's honey.

SPEAKER_00

I packed up my box and then they were looking at me like, wait, what are you doing? And I was like, listen, if you won't let me do my job, what else am I doing here?

SPEAKER_01

I love that. I love that.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I gotta go. Another thing is you paid me a long time ago and I already spent that trash. We gotta go, honey. Yeah, I think being when you hire someone in any service, you have to trust the process and you have to trust that you hired someone that has that skill and quality that you're after. Absolutely, and not allowing that person to do what you hired them to do is just doing yourself a disservice, and also be respectful. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like it's just a basic, I feel like kind of in our society lately, it's like just the thought of just being kind and being respectful to one another, I feel like has just gone away. And it's like and especially like in you know the service industry now, you know, it's like just you're coming, you're providing an amazing service, you're coming out of your day, a busy day, to do someone's hair and makeup. Like you're like this is just as much a part of you as it is about the person.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and also like think of how hindering that is for the experience. You know, you don't get to enjoy that time, and then we certainly don't get to enjoy that time with you. And if you let allow it to be, it could be the most fun part of your entire day.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's it's I look so forward to it.

SPEAKER_00

It is crazy to me the amount of people that are like, I swear to you, Sal, I look forward to getting my hair and makeup done much more than the event that I'm going to. Oh, but that's when we keel over laughing. Yes, we have a ball. Yes. And then you're like, what a better way to go to your event than already feeling absolutely your best. And like on top of that, you look absolutely perfect. Like, how how else would you like to leave?

SPEAKER_01

Well, and it's the best because like I feel like a lot of women in particular, like you get very stressed out for an event. You're like, oh my gosh, like what if my hair looks messed up? Or like, oh uh, it's gonna be so hard. Like, I have to shower and then I've do my makeup. Like, it becomes this like laborious task. Is that a word? Yes, yes. Oh my gosh, look at me. Honey, laborious task, you know? Yeah. And for when you guys come, I'm like, I literally am like, okay, I'm just gonna lay here and then in 10 minutes, they'll be here in 10 minutes. I can't wait. I'm pouring into the house. You have another 10 minutes while we set up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, it's like it's like the most perfect. I mean, we we have done so many events together now where I love it, where it's like, okay, we're having so much fun, I'm like, oh shit.

SPEAKER_00

We gotta go.

SPEAKER_01

But Uber's gonna be here in five minutes. You're like, I don't, like, don't worry, we'll like lock up and then come back and like everything is perfectly clean.

SPEAKER_00

We'll leave after you.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I totally forgot about that. Yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

No, I mean talk about trusting your people. Yes. And if you if if you trust this the talent that you have with you, it's really you can't beat it. Yes. You cannot beat it. And what's the worst that'll happen? We hit your pantry and eat a little, you know, bar or something or something.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, that's what it's for. That's what it's for.

SPEAKER_00

That's if we've ever done that. But you know what? If we ever felt comfortable, it would be with you.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I I feel like I try and force food on you guys every time you leave. I'm like, take that. Uh, okay, so what we'll we'll you know get into this, but what is a trend that you'll just never try? Like a makeup trend that you're just like, that looks interesting, but like, no, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Kaylee, you're coming into the hard ones here. Um makeup trends. I don't know. I feel like we've explored all of them. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Let's just do can we just do a little recap of these beauty items you brought? Because, you know, we are having this premiere for Mother's Day. Before Mother's Day. It's gonna be uh you're go, you know, which is very close by. It's gonna be out Monday, May 4th.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, love.

SPEAKER_01

And obviously Monday, Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10th. And so I know you'll be and we'll obviously link, you know, your information. You'll be at Cosbar that week, I'm guessing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I can be, honey.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Yes. And yeah, if they come though and ask to s for sales specials, they'll they'll get them. They'll know. So can we just do a really quick run through again of your favorite items?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so a part of the um to keep with the theme of like self-care. Yes, I have to say this because I I discovered this by chance. I was out of a face wash. And I love a good, a good rich foaming face wash. My god. And I tried this. It's the enzyme cleanser for Barbasturm.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And as a makeup artist, my biggest fear is when I do your makeup and we see texture. Like it looks rough, it looks bumpy, your foundation is only enhancing it, right? It's flaky. This is a savior. It's in a powder form.

SPEAKER_01

Stop it.

SPEAKER_00

You keep it in your shower, right? You open that up, pour a little dime size amount, add a couple drops droplets of water, emulsify it, it becomes this uh very indulgent, rich foam that sloughs off all the dead skin cells on our face. Your skin looks like a baby's bottom in no time. It is insane. So it's it's what it foliates the enzyme cleanser. So the enzyme is what eats up all that dead surface skin, keeps your skin so clean, so polished. Uh, I would say this is kind of like a derma plane three times a week on your face. It's gorgeous. I cannot stop raving about this. My boyfriend, who I don't think knew about a face wash.

SPEAKER_01

We're talking about him next. I just love his face.

SPEAKER_00

We did my boyfriend did not know what a face wash was until he met me. Enamored. Obsessed. Okay. It is exquisite. It's great for you, it's great for your significant, it is a joy.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, love that. Done and done.

SPEAKER_00

We need peptides, because what did we say? It was the buzzword: peptides, peptides, peptides. They are everywhere. Use it under moisturizer, over moisturizer as a primer. It is gorgeous. And it actually happens to not be that huge of a dig when it comes to cost. It's quite reasonable for Barbara.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Concealer, give do yourself a favor, try the Sicily concealer.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Pop into Cosbar, pop into Nord Street.

SPEAKER_01

And does Cosbar have all these items?

SPEAKER_00

Cosbar has every single one of these items in abundance. Oh, I love it. Try this.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I often see women, especially if you struggle with dark circles, use a color corrector, and then on top of the color corrector, we're using a concealer. But what is that doing? We're adding too much goo under our eyes. This is a two-in-one in who doesn't love a BOGO.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I don't, I mean, if you're not being repped by these brands, you will after this. Because I'm like, I'm buying them. I know everyone on this podcast will buy eye. It's amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and speaking of the Rolls Royce of foundations is Clay de Poe. And if you haven't heard of Clay de Poe, wake up. Is this thing on? Um oh look, there's an eyelash just stuck to it. Uh I was at work earlier today, girlies. Um it's beautiful.

SPEAKER_01

Sweet, that's a foundation.

SPEAKER_00

This is it's called the foundation. And it comes in this gorgeous orb. Any foundation from Clay depot, I would say, is the thing. The girls uh at Cosbar like to make fun of me because I tell every single client, you have not lived until you have experienced a Clay depot foundation. It is beautiful, it is exquisite. Putting it on transports you to a place of peace and serenity and not to mention gorgeous skin. And you just put a little and you can do it. A little spread with your finger, spread with a brush, a sponge, whatever floats your boat, but allow yourself to indulge in clay depot. It is the Rolls Royce of foundations.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I love that.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't get better than this. It is a joy. So yeah, Mother's Day, no better time to pop into Cosbar. It's in our backyard here in Edina. And they have every one of these items in abundance. And on top of that, if you tell them that Sal Sonia, they'll give you some free treats.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

And if you need hair or makeup, give me a jingle.

SPEAKER_01

Well, of course.

SPEAKER_00

Honey. That's hair and makeup.

SPEAKER_01

That I mean, yes, all the things.

SPEAKER_00

We'll take all the stressors out and give you the pointers.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love it. Yes, that's the other thing that we did not talk about. Yeah. Sal, when he comes over, or I actually went to Cosbar to do it because I was low on makeup, or I'm sure I wasn't, but I just wanted new makeup.

SPEAKER_00

But also, how I will say this, because I think I don't think we covered this. When you get your makeup professionally done, you also it it inspires this like eagerness to be like, what are what are the kids using? Like, what is a professional makeup artist using? And sometimes it gives you this validation of like, oh my god, I have that. Show me how to use it. Yes. Or I've been trying to try this. Or do you think I should have that? And there's no better way to try things on than from your makeup artist. Because you get to see it, you get to feel it, you get to wear it, and then the next day, guess what? You own it.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. Totally. Well, and and the thing that you do too is that, you know, and I I don't know if a lot of people know this, but like they can come into Cosbar or you'll come to their house if you want, but you'll do makeup lessons.

SPEAKER_00

We do makeup lessons.

SPEAKER_01

And I did that with you, and I and I filmed the whole thing, and I kid you not, when I'm not having you come do glam, I will put that little iPhone video up, and it's like, oh, I love that. It's like me and you, and I I'm like, you know, trying to like I'm like, oh, the cool style, you know. It's I laugh every time I watch it, but I love it. And you really, I mean, you go through everything from like very simple, and I think the whole thing from start to finish is like 10 minutes.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

It's not like we're sitting here and spending an hour. I mean, you are very much like you are kind of the in and out with the makeup stuff, which I appreciate. Like, you're like, okay, here's what we do, here are kind of the steps you do for everyday baby.

SPEAKER_00

And I also think no one has that kind of time anyway. No! In today's life's life in its fast paced mode that we're constantly in, certainly if you're a mom, you don't have that time to like we wish we would sit in front of a mirror with lights blasting and us enjoying the enamorment of Clay DePo Foundation. Yes, yes. But you want to throw it on, make sure that it does its job, and then go about your business. That's how you should approach a makeup lesson. I always say, when you're when you're signing up for a lesson, what is the max amount of time you're willing to spend on your makeup? Should be a key thing to remember. Because if you're someone that spends 10 minutes in the morning, then give me the best 10 minutes that I can. If you're someone that has the luxury of 30 minutes, that happens to exist as well. Let's then let's capitalize on that too. Yeah. But I love that. There's something to fit every single person and their lifestyle. Your makeup wardrobe is a reflection of the time that you have.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so enough about makeup. What is next for Mr. Sal? I mean, you're you're in love and he's so cute. I love him so much.

SPEAKER_00

Kaylee's met's met the Lyle a few times. Yes. Uh, you know, I think we're reveling in our newness. We're I don't know, I don't know how you feel about your your situation and relationship, but I feel like every single day there's like something new to discover, whether it's positive or mmm, right? Or what can we get over? But I think it's just a part of like, I don't know, the discovery of another human in your life, you know, like there's always something, and that's what And you seem so happy. That's what keeps it fun, I would say.

SPEAKER_01

You know, um, I mean, I've known you long enough where you've you know dated some other I mean, I was going on dates.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I was going on dates.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

There's a time where I was going on five dates a week. Yeah, I um don't miss that one bit. Don't miss that one bit.

SPEAKER_01

I remember when you first met him, I'm like, okay, this is this is like he's so wonderful.

SPEAKER_00

He is wonderful, absolute nerd. And he but he absolute nerd and I love nerds.

SPEAKER_01

He adores you so much. I love him.

SPEAKER_00

I love him.

SPEAKER_01

I was talking to my mom today and I was saying, Oh, you're coming on the podcast. She's like, oh my gosh, I love Sal so much. I love his boyfriend so much. They're the cutest couple. Like, just I mean, you guys really have a great, I mean, magnetism with each other.

SPEAKER_00

You know, like when you really do and in the epitome of opposites attract.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Because we couldn't be further from each other. Um, prime example is he used to think that a shower uh was using the suds quote from your shampoo. Um that's now changed, but you know, it it's we couldn't be more opposite. I know he's into fancy skincare.

SPEAKER_01

But also I love too because I'm sure like there's parts of him that like have helped, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Grounded me.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. No, but I just think he's gonna be a little bit more than a few. Oh, for sure, for sure.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, like we went on a bike ride yesterday.

SPEAKER_01

Went on a bike ride?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so now I'm out here biking and you know investing in sneakers versus you know, fancy footwear. Okay, I like that. So yeah, no, I it's it's we're really into merging our lifestyles and and and seeing the positive of it both, you know. Like you have to. I love him. He's a wonderful person, totally book smart. Uh, not the most pragmatic of humans, but I bring that in ample in ample doses.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, no, life is good. Life professionally is good, personally is fabulous.

SPEAKER_01

Um, what's next for Cell professionally? Obviously, we can all we can find you at the Cosbar, which is amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Find me a Cosbar. And if not, they have great squirrels there. Yes, are great w if you show up and tell them exactly what Cell said they are willing to uh offer.

SPEAKER_01

Um And obviously, you know, doing your com I mean, your the glamps, you and Pearl, I mean, yeah, dream team.

SPEAKER_00

I think our next step would be firing up an entire or like Our own place, you know, where we invite our clients to come to us. Of course, we hope that it's opulent and that it's great, that it's gorgeous. I'm definitely still in the idea that I would want it to be an E Dinah now. I think the landscape for E Dinah has vastly changed. We have nightlife now. I mean, at nine o'clock, the lights don't go off anymore. You find some flickering.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, everyone get out of here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. The noise machine doesn't kick on. Yeah, yeah. Um, so I think, yeah, that's what that's what hopefully is next is launching our own um space where we can continue to create beauty, joy, and all that fun stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, well, I love that stuff.

SPEAKER_00

You'll be our you'll be our first on the guest list.

SPEAKER_01

Are you kidding? I will be like living there. I'll figure out I'll be like, where's my colour?

SPEAKER_00

Honey, we're gonna yeah, yeah, we're gonna have a corner for the girls. Yes. The entertaining girls.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, this was so much fun.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, this was amazing.

SPEAKER_00

A lot of joy. As if we need more reasons to sit next to each other and scream laughing. But this was a perfect mind.

SPEAKER_01

This was so crazy. And I'm so proud of you. Oh, well, I'm so proud of you, and I just know how much you mean to me, and obviously, Pearl too. We're like, I feel like Pearl's with us in spirit.

SPEAKER_00

Pearl needed to be in here. Yeah. Let's get her a little stool right there next time.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, Pearl, she's the best.

SPEAKER_00

Well, this was so best.

SPEAKER_01
