What do you do when life hands you a Netflix reality show at 50, and you weren’t even a reality TV person? Kaley sits down with Daisy Macklin Skarning, Twin Cities actress, former ShopHQ host, and one of 14 cast members selected from 3,500 applicants for Netflix’s Million Dollar Secret. They get into what it actually felt like to compete, whether her theater background gave her an edge, and what her emotional exit looked like from the inside vs. how it played on screen. This one goes deep on reinvention, reading people, and why Daisy keeps saying this is just the beginning.
Daisy Macklin Skarning has been performing since she was five years old. After years on Twin Cities stages and a 15-year run as an on-air host for a national shopping channel, Daisy hit 50 not quite sure what was next, until Netflix came calling. She landed a spot on Million Dollar Secret out of 3,500 applicants, a life-changing experience that led to a new friendship and a new YouTube series, This Can’t Be Reality DDP, co-hosted with castmate Lauren Gierth.
Hi, and welcome back to Reality Renewed. Today we have wonderful Daisy Daisy on our show. We are so excited. Uh, this is very excited for our team at Reality Renewed because we're all obsessed with your show. Thank you. And when you agreed to come on, we were like, this is like some big deal. We got we got Daisy to come on the show. Well, thank you. So we are we're very excited. And obviously, you and I have known each other, gosh, for years now. Yeah, yeah. Uh through just our community. And so it's been so fun to see you kind of transform over the years and you look amazing.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. Thank you. It's it's been a work in process. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01You look amazing. And I love that, you know, we were talking a little bit before that you turned 50 and you're like, I'm gonna do this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. That was my I sort of looked in the mirror at um 49 and a half and I was like, wow, I don't recognize my body anymore. And I just said, you know what? I'm gonna do this without drugs. Yes. And um I joined Discover Strength, which I will 100% change my body. I love that place and sort of just cut back on the the drinking and um changed my eating patterns. And um now all said and done, I think I'm down about 38 pounds. And I feel feel better than I've ever been. And I have I like have core muscles. I didn't know those existed. And I like have muscles in my body that I was like, I mean, I sometimes like even when I was watching the show and they'd like capture like leg, and I was like, I've got that definition of this.
SPEAKER_02I was like, oh but that is amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it I feel very proud. And I feel like, you know, one of the things on the show is we kind of talk about like the second chapter of life, and I always say, like, I think this is the best chapter yet.
SPEAKER_03Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Like, I feel like this is the you know, I'm like, this is the best chapter yet. And I feel like for you, it's you're rocking.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh so I mean, most people obviously know you at this point, but for those who don't, you you started out, talk like tell us a little bit about yourself.
SPEAKER_03Uh so you know, I you know, as a young person in my 20s, uh, I was acting, uh basically kind of full-time and cleaning houses. That was my gig for a long time. Met Cody, got married, stopped acting because we had some babies. Yes. We have two kids, Ryer and Finn, who are 18 and 14. And then sort of something fell in my lap, and I worked for Shop HQ, well, Shop NBC, Evine, and then Shop HQ. So I was selling stuff on TV nationally um for a national shopping channel for about 15 years. Oh, wow. And then they filed for bankruptcy in February of 2025. So about three months before I turned 50. And that was really scary because I had been doing that for 15 years. I was making money. It was something I was really good at. And I was like, oh God, like, what do I do next? But I was like, you know what? Listen, I have this big 50th birthday bash that we're doing. It's that was like my main focus. And here we go. I'm gonna turn 50, this new chapter. And I remember my husband gave me a toast that night, and he goes, There is nothing Daisy cannot do. Like her future is bright. And I just remember thinking, Oh god, what is my future? And then in June, I get a call from a casting agent, and I was like, Way, and it was somebody I did know. I knew I grew up with her dad. Okay, and she's a casting agent out in LA, and she called and she was like, Daisy, I need you to audition for this reality show. And I was like, What? And I suddenly laughed out loud. And she's like, Well, it's this YouTuber and it's a show about deception, because they don't tell you the name. Okay. And I was like, Well, I don't I did I don't watch reality TV. And I and I and Haley, I just turned 50, and she goes, Yeah, and you look awesome. And she's like, I need you to audition for this. And it just I was like, I was like, Is is this a new chapter? And it just kind of was crazy because I did have this experience being on TV, which she knew. Right. Um, but typically with reality shows, they don't want that, you know. They kind of want the people who you know, they find them on on TikTok or Instagram because they have a lot of followers. Yeah, a lot of the people on the show were were reached out to because they had a you know a video go viral. Okay. Or they have a lot of Instagram followers, and some people, of course, just um, you know, submitted. There were 3,500 people who auditioned for the second season of Million Dollar Secret. So to be one of 14 is pretty amazing. Oh, that is amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that is a 3,500 auditioned. Yeah. Oh, okay. Well, hats off to you because that is phenomenal to even make it to the 14. Yeah. I mean, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was I'm it when they told I just found that out probably like a month ago, and I was like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. And I feel like you're one of the fan favorites. Oh, well, thank you. Thank you. I do, and I have to say, I love the ribbons. So for whoever is saying they don't like the ribbons, I think they are fantastic.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. I started wearing ribbons to the gym about at lifetime, about three years ago. And people were like, what are you, what is that? I was like, it's like I bought it at like the craft store. It's so cute. It makes you look elevated, like you try it a little harder. And I go to the gym and I sweat and I stink and I'm gross, and it makes me feel precious. I love it.
SPEAKER_01I think it's so cute. Well, okay, so whatever. That's just my two cents.
SPEAKER_03Thank you for loving my ribbon.
SPEAKER_01That is just my two cents on that situation.
SPEAKER_03I think I need to make a million-dollar secret ribbon and like sell it on Etsy or something.
SPEAKER_01You actually should. That's actually a great idea. You should. I bet people would totally buy it. Just, I mean, I'll buy one. Uh so tell us a little bit about being on, you know, because people always wonder, like, what's it actually like being on a reality television show?
SPEAKER_03It is unlike anything you can like I wasn't even prepared for what it was gonna be like. I think the things that shocked me the most were how fast you fall in love with people on the show. Even though you are fighting for a million dollars, you just you just are you one, you're spending 15 to 16 hours a day with these people, and you are just immersed in this world. You you are cut off from reality. You have no cell phone, you have no TV, you have no internet, you have there are no clocks. I mean, you are literally in like this this beautiful home that and there's cameras everywhere, and you are just immersed with these people.
SPEAKER_01Do you even know like what time it is?
SPEAKER_03Oh no, no, no, no. Like when they would put us to bed at night, I would sometimes ask. They would put you to bed. They like bring you to Cascare brings you to bed, and they're like, Okay, your call time tomorrow is this. And I mean, because you have no clocks in your room, like Cascare would have to come and like knock on your door, and if you didn't get up, they'd like come in and be like, Were you so tired? Oh, when I got home, I slept for three days straight.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I bet.
SPEAKER_03I was exhausted. Um, but I think it's just like the closeness and this bond that you make with literally strangers from all over the country. And there was such a big divide in age because there was like the older house, which was myself, Lauren, Caleb, Alti, who we lost right away, uh, Melissa, and we were kind of the older crew, right? Yeah, yeah. And then you had all the babies.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, they were so young. So young and such baby faces.
SPEAKER_03Yes, they were, and we called them the kids. And I love I love them to bits and pieces, but they were like it, but you fall in love with them too, because you feel sort of nurturing to them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Like that's right. I'm sure being a mother, I'm sure being a mother coming on a show and they're cut off from everyone, you're kind of like taking that on you.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, can you like can you lay in my bosom? Yeah, right, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01Like I am here for you.
SPEAKER_03Right. But then you're also like, I I can't trust these people.
SPEAKER_01Like, I'm sure that was hard.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it's so hard. And the other thing about reality TV is people always say, is it scripted? Is it scripted? Is it scripted? I mean, like, there's a big thing on Reddit right now that people thought I was like a plant, like an planted actress, and not. I was not a paid actress on the show, wish. Um, but it is not scripted at all. I mean, it is you are on your own, you are thinking on your feet, you are just trying to like survive to the next, you know, after just surviving the elimination, right? And it is, it's bananas the process you go through because you it is literally you are by yourself. Like when you are not on camera, you are put in your room with nothing. I mean, I would journal. I mean, my journal are like a psychotic person, it's crazy. The food is amazing. Oh, god. The food is insane on million dollar secret. It's ridiculous. However, I did lose eight pounds when I was there because I was so nervous and my stomach was in turmoil. I'm sure. So I was like, food's amazing. Can't eat any of it because I want to vomit the whole time. But because it's so intense, I mean it's a million dollars. Yes. And it's and there's so much, and the production value is so ridiculously high quality. So you always I was always like, I mean, I also just need to look good in all my clothes, right? Right, totally. Well, you all your outfits were amazing, and they were all mine. I did pack four suitcases. They were like, try to bring two. I was like, you've gotta be freaking joking. I'm like, I'm bringing four, I'll pay the extra.
SPEAKER_01Yes, total. I mean, because I can't even imagine, like, also you're trying to decide, like, see what other people were too, right?
SPEAKER_03Because they really like wardrobe would come in for every outfit that we wore. So here you'd have hair and makeup, and then more wardrobe would come in and they would like take pictures, and you'd probably put on like one to two outfits for every event that we had. Wardrobe would take pictures, then they would send it to the executive producers and they would lay us all out and be like, okay, that works because they look at you as like a whole picture. So everything that we did, you can't have a lot of people in the same color.
SPEAKER_00Sure. Right?
SPEAKER_03It has to be a beautiful picture when we're all on screen together. So that's why I was like, they because they would give us before we left, we had like look books to look at. So like, we want this look and this look and this look and this look and this look. So I mean, I had options upon options upon options upon options. And war mode, wardrobe would always they a lot of times they would start with me and they would be like, Daisy Daisy has a lot of options. We're gonna go to her room first, see what she has. That's great though. And the wardrobe staff was the literally the coolest people you could ever want to hang out with and meet, and their vibe was awesome. They were just cool, like they dressed cool, and they they were they were amazing.
SPEAKER_01What a process though. Yeah, wear a makeup wardrobe, figure that out, then have to figure out what match the other people. It was bananas.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was bananas.
SPEAKER_01Uh wow. So, okay, so that's crazy. Uh well, it's just it's so interesting because like there's things that you just don't even think about a minute. Yeah. Was it hard to be sort of cut out? Like, I mean, as a mom, could you were you able to talk to your kids or Cody? Nope.
SPEAKER_03I mean, there were moments where I would be in my room, and so we all have, so there's 14 of us, and everybody has their own producer. Okay. So you so my producer was Gabby Jones. She's amazing, love, she's been in the industry forever. Netflix adores her. I think she works like on every reality show for Netflix. She's amazing. And there were moments where I would she would come in my room, they check on you like frequently throughout the day. And you know, if I was like the first episode, they thought I was the millionaire. And I thought I did not come all this way to be eliminated the first episode, right? And I'm in my room and I'm sobbing, and I'm like, please, yeah, I go, Cody. I need to go. And she's like, honey, you know, no, no, you cannot, no, you cannot. But I mean, I knew like that morning, I left on a Thursday morning, and I will never forget it. I was leaving the house and I'm hugging Finn, our youngest. He's 14, and we're like hugging our bedroom. I'm sobbing. And he like steps away and he's just got tears streaming down his face.
SPEAKER_02And he goes, Okay, Mama, I have to go because I have to bike to school, and I'm afraid I'm gonna fall off my bike because I'm crying so hard. Because I didn't know.
SPEAKER_03I we knew that once you were eliminated, you left.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03But when I went there on that Thursday, I didn't know how long I was in the hotel and sequester. I didn't know what day we started filming, but I knew that like when you were eliminated, you came home. But when you get there, they take everything. They go through your suitcases, they take your tablets, they take your phones, they take everything. So they know. I mean, it's and like during the process of auditioning, when we got, when I got close and you start talking to the therapists um and start doing the personality tests and things like that, they say, Listen, you're a mom, you cannot talk to your kids. Is your husband capable of taking care of your children without you there? There are no phone calls for questions. There's like they have a number to Gabby, your producer, if there's an emergency. Right. Like 911, we have to get to Daisy. Yeah. But that's it. Like it is, it's very, very strict, and they hold tight, tight to those rules. So yeah, that was that was hard. I mean, I made my last phone call to them when I arrived in Kelowna when they picked me up at the airport before they took my phone, and I just said, I love you guys, and I'll see you when long was it from that to when you I did not speak to them for three weeks in one day.
unknownOh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03And how did Cody do? Cody did amazing. He was so great. And he I mean, he just stepped up to the plate. You know, he runs his own business, and I mean, thank God our boys are pretty self-sufficient. Yeah. But still, Finn, like, he's got to drive him every day to school. Right. And Ryer is his in his senior year, so I missed like his homecoming and his homecoming with his girlfriend who's at Edina. So I mean, I did miss some big moments for him his senior year, which was a little heartbreaking for me. Uh, but you know, this was a pretty big experience. Absolutely. And Finn, Finn and Dad, Finn and Cody would always, every morning, Finn would wake up and they would have breakfast together. And Finn would always say, Gosh, you know, how do you think mom's doing? You know, and they would talk about me and you know how how they think I'm doing and whatever. And Cody would always say, I'm unclear if Ryer knows if you're gone. He's a senior, he's kind of in his own world. Yes. So yeah, they did, they did great. And then I remember when I got eliminated and there was only uh like 48 hours. Yes, I did, I did, and I only missed 36 hours of filming. Oh wow because that's how long that last episode took to film. Because typically episodes took three days, but as they dwindled down, it just takes less time to film everything because there's so few of us. So when I called them that day, I couldn't get a hold of Cody. I called Finn and he was like with his friends at the grocery store, and he had just gotten out of school, and he picked up his phone and he's like, Mom, mom, he's like, I gotta go in the bathroom because I'm gonna cry. Oh, and of course, I, you know, I'm sobbing because you just like I didn't heard his voice. I yeah, so yeah, but then get you on a plane like the next day.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's great. Well, it's I'm sure it's just so much emotions, too. So much. Also, can we talk about your elimination speech? Epic.
unknownEpic.
SPEAKER_01It was so good. I mean, was that like did you kind of like have thoughts in your mind to say it, or was that just completely like I'm pretty sure I passed away and then resuscitated myself and blacked out during that whole time? It was so good. It was so good. No, seriously, I've watched it like multiple times. I'm like, you are a badass. Like you told those people, you're like, you're kind of assholes.
SPEAKER_03Like because we were all in an al I mean, I was really like totally in an alliance with Lauren. Yes. And because that was from the start.
SPEAKER_01I mean, you guys were kind of bonded over being moms and just like true crime, diabetes peppers, yes.
SPEAKER_03Yes. But you know, I think Kat just had flipped her to think I was the millionaire. And I never, once Kat told me her little makeup story, I never had time to talk to Lauren again. That was the part that had I had time to tell Lauren what I knew, because I was gonna tell Lauren like everything Kat had told me. Yeah, because I was under the impression that me, Kat, and Caleb were all in an alliance and the four of us were gonna go to the end together. And we'd have this conversation, like the best case scenario is that one of us has the money. Because if one of us has the money, we just get rid of Nick and Kevin, and the four of us go to the end. And then once those two are gone, we figure out who has the money, right? And but we'll protect our little four son until we get to that point, and then it just fell apart. And so I was so shocked. I was so shocked in that moment. Yes, and then I was like, what? And I just I couldn't, I couldn't hold my tongue anymore. And I guess technically, technically, supposedly once you open your box, you're probably really not supposed to say anything. Well, I didn't know that rule. And then they just they didn't stop me, and then they told me that uh after I left, and they were like, Well, yeah, we probably should have stopped you. And I was like, Well then why didn't anybody stop me? And they're like, because it was really fucking good TV. It was!
SPEAKER_01I mean, it was really so good. It was so good. They're like, it was so good we couldn't stop you. Yeah, it was so good, it really was. And I was like, I was like, what is going on? How are you turning against Daisy? Like you guys were all like such a it's so crazy how that game, it really is about really about strategy, right? And just forming alliances. Yeah. Were you surprised that Nick won?
SPEAKER_03Um, yeah. Yeah, I was. There were glimpses of his intelligence that because he's so, I mean, like every morning you'd wake up to this, Queen! What up, Queen? Like, that's what he would say to Lauren and I all the time. And I mean, it was just he's like the perfect Jersey boy. I love everything about him. He is handsome, he's just so chill. And so there, but there were moments where you would see like this really intelligent dude come out. Like the last night when Kevin and Kat were down in the trophy room fighting it out to see who would go in with Peter. He's upstairs being like, Okay, so I did the math. It would be a something-something chance if Caleb got the money again, it would be a something-something chance if I got the money again, and calculations of this and this, and I was literally like, What? So he's like good at playing kind of playing dumb a little bit. Well, and he knows numbers because little did we know. He told us he was like a like a hospitality manager or something. Oh no, no, no. He ran like, he was like, he he's like a finance guy. Oh and I was like, you little stinker, yes, you actually are a smarty tardy. Yes, has a really great degree from the University of Miami. Like, he's not a dum-dum, okay? So I was like, he had us fooled. I mean, he really did. And so I think at that moment I was like, I'm like, wait. And I I pulled Lauren to a couch and I was like, I don't think Nick's as dumb as we think he is. I think he might be a little smart. And she's like, what? And I was like, the the whole percentage thing. I'm like, that I wouldn't have I couldn't do those hours. No. I'm like, he's like literally doing per like math. Yes. And she's like, Do you think it was real? And I was like, Yeah. Yes, I live with somebody who does math. I'm like, yes, that was real. Yeah. And so and and then I think that last elimination general, I was so shocked at to what was happening that all of that stuff about Nick just like went out of my head. And then I didn't want to out cat because like I was so happy for her, and then like I was like, I'm not gonna share her secret. I don't that was it was all just so crazy. Yes. But I mean, hindsight, if I could do that over, I would because I would have been in the final four, and I think I would have gone to the final three too. Oh, for sure. Yeah, well, are you gonna do more reality shows? God willing, yes. Yes. Oh, I I mean, I I don't, I mean, I have said this multiple times. I said it in my last interview. I will say it again. I don't care who I have to sleep with, I will be on traders. I don't care what I have to do, I will get there. I will be on traders.
unknownMark my words.
SPEAKER_03I have to be on that show. I it's like honestly, it was the only other reality show I watched besides The Voice and American Idol. I love the Traders. And we are similar to the Traders. Yeah, like our show. Oh, it's so good. It's so good, and it's all reality people. So you have to have done reality TV to do the traitors. I bet you'll well, they haven't had anybody from Million Dollar Secret, so we'll see. I can't do any. It's funny because people DM me and be like, are you gonna do um a dating show? I'm like, did I talk about my husband on the show? I feel like I did. I feel like I talked about Cody and the boys. A dating show? And like, no, I'm I'm wedded.
SPEAKER_02And I'm I'm good.
SPEAKER_03I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. But I will do the traitors. I will do the traitors. I mean, I would I would even I mean, I could I don't think I could do Big Brother. I think I would maybe I would do Survivor because it's it's Survivor light these days. It's not as intense as it was in the beginning. I would love to do Amazing Race with Lauren. Ohren G. Oh, I love that. I love that show. And there's a lot on Netflix. Like that are like games, you know, that are formal. So that's kind of so you like I love the gameplay. I love the strategic gameplay. Yes. Dating shows clearly are not my jam. Like Nick is just done right now on Perfect Match, and I'm watching Perfect Match, and I'm like, oh, oh, oh.
SPEAKER_01It is juicy. Oh yeah. I've watched, I've watched a few episodes, and you're like, I have young kids. I'm like, they can't be anywhere in the in the vicinity. Because that is, yeah, it is. It's juicy.
SPEAKER_03I saw that. So Nick's on it. Yes. So he actually got off Million Dollar Secret, and Netflix called and was like, we want you on perfect match, like two weeks after we were done filming.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is he matching?
SPEAKER_03Um no. No, he's not matching. But I think he he will definitely go on to do more reality TV. He's hot right now. He's hot. Okay. Yeah, yeah. And he's a I mean he's a good looking guy.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03I mean, and he's he's a big thing.
SPEAKER_01I'm not a I'm not a blonde. I'm like blondes aren't really my thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But he I could see.
SPEAKER_03I mean, my my I mean, my favorite is Hunter. I mean, I have a very big soft. He's so cute.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_03He's even cuter in person, I will tell you. His curly hair and his eyes. I will, I like the first time I met him, because I was the first one into the stag for the gala. And then Hunter.
SPEAKER_01Your dress was fab, by the way.
SPEAKER_03That was my 50th birthday dress. Oh, fab. It's the best $450 $450 I've ever spent in my whole life. Fab. I've got that dress has been worn to the Yes.
SPEAKER_01That's what you're supposed to do. You know, that's a new thing. You're supposed to wear things over and over again. That's what we're that you just do, you don't have to buy new for everything.
SPEAKER_03That one, that one wins the prize. I love it. Yeah. Hunter is. He is he walked down those steps and I was like, oh God, he's so cute. I mean, I was literally like, and he reminded me a little bit of my boys with the curly hair. Yeah, he's adorable. And he is precious.
SPEAKER_01Is he going on perfect match?
SPEAKER_03Um, no. I I I think he'll do he, I think he wants to do more of like the like the thinking wise.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the strategic gameplay. Yeah. Maybe you guys should partner up on it.
SPEAKER_03I would love to partner with it. He because he's he's a really good game player. And had that whole Yumiko Nick situation not played out the way it did, I think I think I think Hunter would have gone to the end. He's very smart and he's a good game player.
SPEAKER_01Good. So after, you know, obviously elimination, then there's the finale. You know, people always assume everyone's gonna hate each other at the end. How are you guys all now?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, we're all really, really good. There's I mean, there's a few people I just don't have things in common with, and I just don't talk to them. Um, everybody is always like, How are you and Kat? How are you? I adore Kat. I simply love her to death. She is a delight. Uh, we were just all out in Colorado. There were seven of us out in Colorado about two weeks ago. We were out seeing Kevin, who does motocross. He's a professional motocross racer.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03And yeah, he's amazing. He's amazing. I mean, what a go-getter for how young he is. Yeah. And I had seen him race in Seattle. Melissa and Lauren and I went to see him in February. And then um, Kat, Kevin, Hunter, Yumiko, Tarek, myself, and Lauren were all in Colorado together two weeks ago. And that was a trip, you guys, because the show had finished. Yeah. The last episode had dropped. We were like celebrities. Oh, yeah. Everywhere we went, the group of us, people were stopping us for pictures, autographs. I mean, it was that was a trip. Yes. I had I mean, that's never that was. I mean, it's I've been stopped here a few times, but not a ton. But I think because we were in like this big group of people, people were just like, oh yes, oh my gosh. It was it was awesome.
SPEAKER_01I love that you guys all it was awesome. I love that you guys all get along.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And I just I I I and even then there's this like huge age gap. Yeah, and like, but it was nice because like Lauren and I could go and do like our own thing, and her family was there, and I love her husband and her two kids. They are remarkable. And so like we went to the zoo and like we could go do our own thing, but then like we would get together with them and um because it is fun to be with. I mean, I danced on a table and like I stayed out at a bar till 1 30 with the kids, and I mean, God, it was funny. You got those times. It was fun, yes, and I missed those times. I love it.
SPEAKER_02I love it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was great. We had a great time.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm so happy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're all just delightful. I I mean, Lauren and I clearly speak like multiple times a day, and I bet you I speak to Kat probably every other day. I mean, Hunter, he he doesn't check his phone enough. Um, but yeah, they're all just a love. I love them all. I'm so glad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, and speaking of that, you and Lauren are doing a new show together. Let's talk a little bit about that. I think it's gonna be amazing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's called This Can't Be Reality. We are launching, we are going live tonight on YouTube um at 6 p.m. Pacific time, 8 p.m. Central. Uh, just kind of introducing what we're about, what we're doing. You know, we're we sort of have like this, I would say, our five seconds of fame right now. So we're gonna we're also gonna have it on Spotify as a podcast, but we really want to like target YouTube right now just because people visually know us. And uh yeah, it's so what we're doing is we on the show bonded over diet Dr. Pepper's being the best soda ever.
SPEAKER_01It is delicious.
SPEAKER_03It's delicious. It's why don't that's like not readily available. It makes me crazy that it's not because it should be at every in my opinion, every restaurant as an option. Is that owned by Coke? No, I think isn't it Pepsi? I think Dr. Pepper is Pepsi. Okay, well, I think it's a good idea.
SPEAKER_01It should just be its own entity, in my opinion. Yeah. I mean I also think like straight Dr. Pepper is good too.
SPEAKER_03Oh, correct. But their diet tastes like Dr. Pepper. That's what I love about it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, however, in Canada, you can only get Dr. Pepper Zero, which is different than Dying Dr. Pepper. Lauren and I were very upset about that. But it doesn't taste different. It does taste different. It does. The zero tastes different than the diet. Okay. I prefer the diet.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Um, so we bonded over that and true crime. And I think I've listened to every true crime podcast that has ever existed.
SPEAKER_01I love true crime so much.
SPEAKER_03Dateline, I love forensic files. I watched all the like all the law and orders. I mean, give it all to me. Like it's just my genuine.
SPEAKER_01I mean, amazing.
SPEAKER_03I live for it. Same. It's I just I could watch it all day long. My husband could care less about it. And I just get in the basement. I'm like, give me more, give me more.
SPEAKER_01It's just, it's they're just good. They're entertaining. Yes.
SPEAKER_03And like your brain thinks about it, and like you're like, how can people go this crazy and do these crazy things? Totally. And so we bonded over that. And and even Peter, our host, was like, You guys are so funny, you guys gotta do something after the show together. And our producers would tell us the directors at a million dollar secret, you you guys are just funny, you gotta do something, you gotta do something. And you know, people tell you that, and then you're kind of like, Oh god, I mean, could we do something? Should we do something? And we just kind of talked about it once we left the house. And in January, we really started to, you know, put put it sort of piece things together, and we started buying equipment, and um, we're not this fancy, clearly. And she's in Washington, and I'm here, so that's a big piece of the puzzle. Yeah, so uh that that we tried to figure out. Thank God we have all these young people in our lives who are helping us with technology. Uh, so yeah, we're we're we're hitting it tonight and we're super excited. We already have subscribers and we don't even have anything up on our YouTube channel. But I think it's just yeah, I think it's because we've posted about it and people are excited. I think they liked us on the show together, which is so flattering and we're so so honored that people liked us. Um, you know, and I think too, being, you know, older, there's not a lot of representation in that age category. And um I'm really excited to to hopefully like engage people because we, you know, I mean you too, like, I don't know. I just feel like the the young people, you know, like the 35s and they I feel like they dominate everything on social media. And I just feel like there is a place for people who are a little bit older and I just turned 39 yesterday.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm like, I it's only up from here. Although I woke up with a my hip hurts. Girl, whether we get it. I was like, how do I have a hip injury? It didn't even work out. I'm like, what's going on here? Like this, you know, out of nowhere. I'm like, what? Like, is this old age? Like, I have my hip hurts.
SPEAKER_03It's the weather. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is that is that a thing?
SPEAKER_03No, when the pressures get weird and the pressure is dropping, like, things will hurt in your body as you get older. Okay, that's just I'm that's my story.
SPEAKER_01I like this pressure thing. Yep, yeah. That's great.
SPEAKER_03It's true. It's obviously true. It is actually true. So it's just the pressure. And it starts to happen as you get older. Oh my god. Your body will respond to things in like the pressure dropping and like, yeah, and humidity, and like it's crazy.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I'm looking at you're away from 40 and I'm like, this is I already like, you know.
SPEAKER_03But but here's the like, we're not, there's not a lot of us doing stuff on social media, on podcasts, on YouTube. And I'm really like, and Lauren and I were kind of talking about that. I was like, you know what? There has to be more of us. Yeah, there are all these women that listen to it, yes, they watch it and they're watching young people do it. And you why are we there's just we need we need to have more of us out of the world?
SPEAKER_01I agree doing it. And that's why I wanted to do this podcast too. Because when I was going through my divorce, yeah, I was you know, looking up, you know, you're trying to find different podcasts to listens to or self-help, whatever. Like, there was not much out there on it. And then as it's as it's sort of evolved, now it's really about like the second chapter of our life can be like awesome.
SPEAKER_03The best.
SPEAKER_01Like, this is kind of the best. And that's just not really out there. Like, I feel like it's all like, you know, the 20s and 30s, and all the the on the TikTok with all these like dances and space products, and I can't like follow it.
SPEAKER_03You can't and you can't keep up.
SPEAKER_01No, yeah, yeah. I'm like this, you know, it it is what it is what it is. Yeah. But I think like just like the empowerment of women to be like, no, this is like our best time. And like we can still feel sexy and cool. I mean, you look the best you've ever looked in your entire life. I feel the best I've ever felt. So it's like this is kind of our time.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and that's exactly and I love that you say that because we are we are underrepresented, and I think women, when they hit a certain age, feel like it's done. Yes. And I look at social media, I don't feel like there's anybody out there that looks like me or doing anything. I I'm over. I'm I'm done. I have, you know, and life is just beginning. Yes. I really truly believe that.
SPEAKER_01I so believe that too. And I think, you know, people when you go through big life transitions, whether it's like, you know, turning 50 or going through a divorce or maybe like losing a job. Losing a job or losing, you know, a loved one. Absolutely. I feel like it's so easy for people to go down that kind of dark, depressed hole and like let go of yourself and let go of like taking care of yourself. And I and I realized I was like, if I don't take care of myself first, I have like three little babies that I have to take care of. If their mom isn't showing up the best because I'm not, you know, that like that's only a disservice to them. So it's like you, you know. And they're gonna cue off you. Right. Yes. It's like, you know, I I've said this on this podcast before, but it's like the whole thing about, you know, you always put your oxygen mask on first before assisting others. And it's that whole thing. It's like, if you don't take care of yourself first, what you know, what uh what is there left, really? Right. Um, and so I thought I love too that you're embracing that because I think it's and I I think women, we really need to get over thinking that it's selfish. Yes, because I remember when I was going through my divorce, and obviously I had three kids, three little kids, and I'm still trying to like figure out myself and still take care of myself. And I remember like being like, gosh, am I like being selfish? Am I being selfish that I also know like I still need to do self-care for myself? And I think as moms too, we get like this mom guilt.
SPEAKER_03Oh, 100% mom guilt is real.
SPEAKER_01Mom guilt is so real, especially when you have littles. Yes, and you're expected, you know, to just do so much. And I remember like thinking to myself, I was like, nope, I there has to be a balance.
SPEAKER_03Yes, yes, I 100% agree. So yeah, I'm just really I'm excited for this adventure. I'm excited for Lauren and I. I I hope it I hope it takes off. I mean, I don't our first couple videos aren't gonna probably look as beautiful as they should be, but we're working on it. No, that's it's a it's a process, it's a process, and that's fun. Yeah. Oh, I'm so excited for you guys.
SPEAKER_01Okay, is she coming to Minnesota? Any Minnesota visits?
SPEAKER_03Um, yes, she will definitely come to Minnesota. I'm going out to her first in June. We're gonna record a bunch of stuff together out there, and then I think she's gonna come to me. I think her whole family's gonna come. Oh probably um either the end of summer or in early fall. Good. Just we're just so it's so hard because we gotta get a kid to college. Yes. And so, like, our summer is so bizarre this year. And that's a big transition too. Going from two kids to watch. I know. I keep telling Finn, I'm like, dude, get ready. You're gonna really hate dad and I because we're gonna have everything's gonna be about you. Yes, totally. Totally. He's never experienced being an only. You know, Ryder did for almost, you know, he was an only for three and a half years. Yes. But Finn is never. And he Finn's gonna have a tough time when Ryer leaves because they're they're really close. Yeah. Yeah. It's gonna be hard. I I I try not to think about it because then I'll start. Yes. But at least, hey, you'll have a great place to go visit. Oh my gosh. I told Cody, I said I was I was I told him I'm like, I am I just want you to be aware I'm looking into like long stay VRBOs because you can do that. Like where you can rent a VRBO for like four months at a time. And they give you a huge discount. Yes. And then like we can just like leave stuff there. Yes. And then because I think that's I think that's pretty common in Florida, too. Yeah, and so I'm just like, then we can fly. I can see why. I mean, I feel like Ryer probably needs me there once a month.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_03Uh that's what I feel like.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I hey. I feel like my parents consistently probably came out once a month in college. Where did you were you out of state? I was in Colorado. Okay. And also, like, Colorado's great.
SPEAKER_03We're in Colorado. Denver. Okay. Which college is in Denver? DU. DU. Okay, so we were in Fort Collins, which is CSU, I think. Yeah, yeah. It was that college town. Man, if you want to go be popular after doing a reality show, go to a college town. Oh, I bet. Those college kids, they would have party, million-dollar secret parties. So when we walked into these bars, they lost their minds. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02And my favorite is when they'd be like, Daisy, we really wish you were our mom. You're really cool.
SPEAKER_03And I was like, Thanks, guys. I'm so freaking off. And then they're like, Hunter, you're so hot. And I'm like, and there, there we go. There's our show right there. Wish you were my mom. Hunter, you're so hot. Can we make out in a corner? There you go. It's so good, though. So good. Except I'd be like, not with her, Hunter.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_03I love it.
SPEAKER_02See, you're use you're helping him out. I am helping him.
SPEAKER_03Somebody does.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. I love it. Well, I think it's so great what you did. I love that. I loved you on the show. You're my favorite. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Well, you have to say that. I really no, you really, but you really, you really were.
SPEAKER_01Oh, thank you. Uh and I'm so excited for the next show you're doing with Warren. I think that sounds amazing. I will definitely be a subscriber. We are so excited as well. I'm just excited to see what else you have in store because I know there's going to be a lot of amazing stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I from your lips to God's ears. I I I hope so. Yes. Yes. Well, awesome. Well, thank you so much. Thank you so much for having me. This was really fun. Yes. Um, and if if more things come along, I'll I'll come right back. Yes, please do.
SPEAKER_00All right. Thank you. Thank you.
