In this episode, I want to gently but firmly challenge one of the most damaging ideas we’ve been taught about our bodies.

That our body is the problem.
That our eating is the problem.
That weight changes, emotional eating, restriction, or body hatred mean we’ve failed in some way.

They don’t.

Through an Internal Family Systems and somatic trauma lens, we explore how the body doesn’t just react to life, it adapts to it. How posture, muscle tension, digestion, weight, and eating patterns can all be forms of protection shaped by lived experience, not personal weakness.

We talk about how parts of us live not just in our thoughts, but in our bodies. How the nervous system learns what feels safe, what feels threatening, and how it organizes protection around that. Why weight can become insulation or a boundary. Why digestion often struggles under chronic stress. Why tension shows up in shoulders, jaws, guts, and hearts long before we have words for it.

This episode also explores:

  • How early relational trauma shapes the body’s responses later in life
  • Why food so often becomes a regulator when safety is missing
  • The difference between insight and true healing
  • Why “just listen to your body” isn’t always accessible without safety
  • How manager and firefighter parts show up through food, control, and avoidance

Nothing in you is random.
Nothing in you is broken.
Your body has been responding intelligently to what it learned it needed to survive.

Healing doesn’t happen through force or control.
It happens through attunement, pacing, and building enough internal safety for protection to soften.

If you’ve ever felt confused, frustrated, or ashamed that your body won’t “respond” to doing all the right things, this episode is an invitation to see yourself differently.

With curiosity instead of control.
With respect instead of force.
