Episode Summary
Welcome to Part 2 of the UncTalk Podcast's physical health discussion recorded in Austin. Hosts Jay Staff, Joe, and Jared dive deep into the multi-faceted nature of men's health. The conversation kicks off with one host detailing how traveling through Latin America temporarily derailed his fitness. However, joining a homeschool group served as the necessary catalyst to get back into the gym alongside other fathers in their thirties and forties. The hosts emphasize the distinct difficulty of maintaining a disciplined diet, noting the stark financial difference between quick, cheap meals and healthy, fulfilling food.
The episode takes a poignant turn as the hosts boldly transition into discussing mental health. One speaker shares a profound personal breakthrough achieved simply by opening up to his wife, describing the immense relief of lifting a long-held burden. This leads to a crucial dialogue about replacing destructive vices with positive virtues. They stress the critical importance of true brotherhood and community to combat the dangerous, silent suffering that plagues so many men today.
Jay Staff then bravely opens up about his own physical health wake-up call. After indulging in severe milkshake cravings, a routine doctor visit revealed his A1C levels indicated he was diabetic. He details his new routine of strict dietary boundaries, prioritizing simple meals like boiled eggs and spinach for breakfast, and habitually monitoring his blood sugar levels every few hours.
The hosts also explore the powerful concept of reverse-engineering success. Using the intricate analogy of building an iPhone piece by piece, they firmly argue that anyone can reach their desired destination if they are truly willing to put in the calculated step-by-step sacrifice. Drawing direct parallels to the world of finance, Jay Staff compares this journey to carefully balancing risk and return in the market.
Finally, the trio touches on spiritual health, identifying a massive, undeniable void in modern culture. One host deeply reflects on the mysterious but undeniable link between his marital harmony and his personal spiritual connection. They conclude by praising the unique, palpable energy of recording together in the podcast studio. The UncTalk crew proudly promises more insightful, genuine, and fun content as they continue their 12-week health series.
Questions, Comments, Just Say Hi
Uncle@unctalkpod.com
Yep.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, it's wild.
SPEAKER_01It's wild. It's wild. But it's such a it's such a relief. It is. It is. I felt like it's almost like you don't even know that it was even on you like that.
SPEAKER_03It's like if your diaphragm was only half working and then But that's been 100% for you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then it's like, oh, I can take this deep of a breath. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I can get this much oxygen. I can get this much in.
J.StaffWelcome, welcome, welcome to another week of the UncTalk podcast. We are dedicated to empowering uncles and inspiring nephews. I'm your favorite host, Jay Staff. A quick thing before we get into the episode, if you would give us a like and subscribe anywhere you're listening to this, it really helps us out, helps us with the algorithm, and improves our reach. And remember, tell an uncle, an auntie, a nephew, a niece, anybody that'll listen about our community. Spread the word. Now, let's just jump back into our conversation from last week. This is part two of physical health talk in Austin. Hope you enjoy it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like where are we? I'll go all day.
J.StaffI'll go all day, man.
SPEAKER_02Bro.
SPEAKER_03Okay. I was thinking about it. I'm like, why am I thinking about barbecue right now?
J.StaffUh-huh. Hey, we're gonna go to we're gonna go to Franklin's after this. So it's okay. But man, how is your health though, bro? For real, for real.
SPEAKER_03Um what's your numbers looking like? Good. Dude, like um, I was talking to my pops probably a few months ago, and we were talking about a similar situation, and um you have those moments when you're talking to, you know, people and their moral their mortality is kind of staring them kind of more in the face, and you're like, all right, more conversations, kind of bringing up those things, and you start having thoughts that you never really had before and going down paths you never really had to go down before. But I remember telling him, I was like, man, you know, I felt like as long as I can get down and do just like 30 push-ups and just do 30. Uh, you know, I'm in a good spot. And um, after we had done all the travel and stuff like that, I didn't really focus on the health as much as I could have. We were doing a lot of walking, so I figured that was sufficient.
J.StaffSo travel by what travel you mean? Just for context.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just the travel, the time, the couple years that my family took, um, traveling kind of up and down Latin America for a bit. Okay. And uh, we hit a few countries and a few cities and towns in those countries and things like that. And so we were bouncing around, but a lot of walking and things like that, but I didn't feel as strong as like I felt, you know, you know, like in college, man. I ran into one of those pictures I took.
J.StaffWhen you worked in the gym? When I worked in the gym. You worked in the master. Shout out to UTA. And uh yeah, shout out.
SPEAKER_03And I was like, man, I remember feeling like that. I remember feeling that strong and feeling that vital and the gym every day. I was in the gym every day, but I went from in the gym every day to not in the gym at all. You know, and the nine to five gets you, and you start having to prioritize other things. Family, those milestones hit you where you just have to really shift um how your time is allocated, how your resources are allocated. Uh, but yeah, man, I didn't take advantage of the of in that way that I felt I could have while we were bouncing around. But uh by the time we got back, settled, and I was like, man, I need to jump into something else, and just couldn't get that that thing. Like it you just need you can't self-spark every single thing in your life, you can't self self-generate that thing. And so you need people to um catalyze whatever it is that thing that you're you're trying to get going. And um it was part of the homeschool group we're building, is part of that. One of the brothers was jumped in with the energy that was needed, was like, hey, we got these guys that we some we need to get in the gym. Yeah, stem little life cycle, mid to late 30s, 40s, young families, so on and so forth. And it was just that thing. It was like, you know, yeah, it it's time now. Yeah, and whether you look at it as okay, it was a sign, however, people um are made aware of those things that need to happen. Sometimes there's people caught in epiphany. You know, if you're religious, it's it's God orchestrated um connections and people coming into your life, and you realize, okay, this is why this person's in my life. Whether for a season or for a long season, like in our case, um, why is this person still in my life? Okay, what is it that they're here to either show me, what is it that I'm to learn from this person? Those things started happening, and it was like, all right, let me jump back in this gym. Um and I did 60 push-ups, one, just 60 of them joints. And I'm like, oh yeah, this is how it feels. But my wife was going to the gym, she was hitting it like every morning, dedicated, committed, disciplined.
J.StaffWe've always had some discipline around the food we eat, but um, she always hey, hey, you guys eat vegan, grass-fed. Yeah, like that's not even good.
SPEAKER_03Definitely more so my wife. Y'all are very crunchy with their diet. Definitely more so my wife than me. I still get, I still, you know, you know, luckily I my metabolism can still to a degree handle a lot of that stuff. Some stuff it can't. I've had to cut out a lot of things, but it takes a lot of discipline to do that. And when you notice or Sam, it takes Sam to test. Yes. So the stuff doesn't even come to come into the house. You know, best decision I've ever made. But um, those hard moments when it's it's like, all right, uh, you know, you drive in and okay, that right there costs five dollars and it'll fill me up. That right there costs me $15 and I'm gonna be hungry again in 30 minutes. Um and in the discipline to to do what you can to make the right decision, but realize that you can't do it all in and of yourself. Like, God, you just you need other people. That's how we're built, that's how we're designed. Yeah. Um, as human beings, you need other people to support this over here or shoulder this over here. Not even just a physical sense, and that's not even where I wanted to go, but I did just kind of want to pick piggyback where you were coming off of the physical health, the mental health also. Um, my wife and I have just recently had some conversation that is more of a breakthrough for me than I even thought um I knew I needed. And there are ways in which I've been coping with certain things. Um, I knew it was in an unhealthy way, but didn't realize the release I needed until I told her about this thing. And it's like, ah, but now my brain is like, oh, somebody else out there knows this thing. Now I've got to contend with the ramifications. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now it's someone else can project this thing to me instead of me hiding it and projecting out. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, it's wild.
SPEAKER_03It's wild, it's wild.
SPEAKER_01But it's such a it's such a relief. It is. It is.
SPEAKER_03I felt like it's almost like you don't even know that it was even on you like that. It's like if your diaphragm was only half working, and then but that's been 100% for you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then it's like, oh, I can take this deep of a much oxygen, I can get this much.
SPEAKER_03And so that's happened. But um forcing, like forcing yourself to go to those places because you know the only way is through, and once you do get through, it's just so much brighter and it's so much color more colorful, and you can move with such less ease. Yeah, so much more ease and ease of thought and ease of consciousness, and all that has just been, and it's not even it hasn't even been that long, but I can tell I'm thinking through things without this grip gorilla on your back, sitting on your back, darkness, all that. Oh, this is so much brighter because there's not this shadow over there. You know what I'm saying? So um, and then my the writing that I've been able to do just in that amount of time is much more fluid, and I can hit points without hitting those points with the feeling that I typically hitting those points. I can do it and write through it a lot for it for all freer. So whatever it is and to me, when I think of gaps, and we talk about gaps between where you are and where you want to be. And sometimes that gap is a who gap is okay, be intent on finding if it is a who, finding that who and doing what you can to to avail yourself of as many people as you possibly can because one of those people is gonna be that who gap to get you get you across. So man, I gotta say, yeah, the physical thing, definitely just in the last couple of months, I gotta say, feel better than I felt in a long time. But even more in a deeper level, the just the mental side of it is best headspace I've been in. Maybe ever. Get there. Just get there in a virtual sense. So, yeah, there are vicious things you can do to cope, but try to find the most virtuous thing to get you there. Volunteering, you know, whatever it is that you gotta do.
J.StaffI see what you're saying. So lean on the virtuous side. Yeah, lean on the virtues instead of the vices.
SPEAKER_03Instead of the vices. Yeah, that's that's maybe a better way to put it, not the vices. Dude, the vices never they don't fill you up. The vices just empty calories. Yeah, yeah.
J.StaffJust calm you, soothe it. But it's only temporary. And they help anything. Those virtues, the virtuous side, although maybe a little bit, as you mentioned when you first talked about maybe like, oh, jarring, it's that, it's that, it's that long tail of just, oh, now I have I don't have like what I like to like to call the monkey on my back. Just yelling at me, or I don't have this cloud that's maybe it's not over me, but looming. But it's sitting back here, like, oh shit, why is it so much darker right now? It's got my attention, for sure. Yeah, and it's making it's making my view dimmer or or or less vibrant. And so like to live with full color is is the mission. Yes, yes. It's it's it's the mission. And I'm so glad you mentioned the mental health too, because uh I mean, you didn't tell me you went to the doctor, so we're gonna make sure you go to the doctor too. When was the last time you saw or not a not a herbalist, like a a doctor, not a man? I mean like naturalist herbalist. Like when you went to the doctor last. I went to the street bar because it's not the same. It's not the same.
SPEAKER_03A year. Okay. Because I got the I just got the email saying, hey, it's your one year. Go ahead and schedule uh. Okay, okay, okay. Your birthday's coming up soon. It's in January. No, you're in January.
J.StaffThis guy here, man. I know, man.
SPEAKER_03Look at his birthday. Yeah, July 9th? Yeah, yeah. I didn't mean to put that out there, man. But I knew I knew one. It just pops up in my head.
J.StaffHey, you're my seven. Hey, yeah. But I'm easy to remember because your birthday, because your brother's birthday.
SPEAKER_03So Jonathan's the 29th of February. Brandon's the 8th of June. Okay.
J.StaffOkay, well. Well, you know, I'm glad you mentioned the mental health. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cut that in post. Thank you, uh JJ. But go ahead with what you said. Cut the birthdays out. Go ahead with what you said. Anyway, um, crazy. But um, man, I I'm glad you mentioned the mental health piece because that's so important and so overlooked these days. I mean, you know, brothers out here, you know, unaliving themselves and not saying a word. And it's like, oh man, so-and-so happened to so-and-so. Did we know that? Yeah, exactly. I mean, shoot, uh, and and not even putting things in perspective. I mean, shoot, whatever it is, man, but the silence of it is it's it's worse than you remember those old old carbon monoxide uh commercials that they used to have. The silent comb. It's worse than carbon monoxide out here, man. And so, man, the the key is to get the community, get the um, get get wrapped up in the community. I mean, yeah. I mean, I mean, it's it gets good if you find your plus one, your player two. But also, the Banda Brothers, the Wolf Pack, whatever you want to call it, is not to be overlooked. And it's to be cultivated. So, and I, you know, that's what we're have here. That's what we're showing off. That's what we that's the Unc Talk. That's what it means to be Unc Talk. So, um, so I won't be so you guys won't be alone. So uh my health is my physical health is it's getting better. Uh I had some sugar, you know, some sweet sugar issues or whatever like that. Um that's sugarfoot. That's my as my friend always calls me. She's like, you're gonna be a sugar foot. They're gonna take your foot. So whenever I get my milkshake cravings. Because for me, yeah, man. It's the it's the it's the milkshakes, it's the sweets. Man, like, and it's not until I I've been older shakes, bro. Whataburger Dad Brahms? If you go to Brams, they'll make you every milkshake you want, bro. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_03Like, they got them on special sometimes, too.
J.StaffBruh, you can go in there, I want a Rocky Road and cookies and cream milkshake. They'll and have it for you. But um, man, I've had to in my older age, I've had this desire of like sweets and you know, little treats and stuff like that. And went to the doctor, my doctor was like, bruh, your A1C, you need to, you know, you need to look at it. And if everybody don't know, A1C is the long-term marker of your blood sugar. It's you know, get it checked. It's one of it's a very important number. Uh he was like, bruh, your A1C says you're diabetic. And I was like, I don't feel diabetic. I feel fine. Like, and again, that's funny. Watch me put, I'll do these push-ups for you. Crank out Victor for you. Yeah, right, right. You know what I'm saying? Because, you know, I go to I I try to go to the gym at least semi-regularly or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, but we don't have as much discipline around the eating thing. So, man, we be we be eating. And and it's not and to, you know, we we sneak off and eat too. Like, oh sneaky, get me uh the dumplings from AG. Um and so it's had I've had to be a lot more disciplined around what I eat excuse me, when I eat and how much I eat. Um and so mainly the what. And so like for mornings I've been very disciplined about like I have like two things. I have boiled egg and I have a handful of spinach, and if I'm feeling frisky, I go to Chick-fil-A, I get the egg white English muffin sandwich thingy with the chicken breasts on it. I do the fried one, not the grilled one. And just limit, just taking the reverse that. Well, look, I like the fats. You know, I still don't know. You didn't need to reverse that. No, no, no, no, no. I need the fats. Um, but just taking the mental anguish and thought process about like, well, what am I gonna eat? Yeah. Yeah. Let me swing over McDonald's, get that McGriddle. Like, no, it's like I my when I wake up, my brain knows, like, all right, we're gonna eat one of two things, and we're only gonna eat the second thing because we didn't have time to make the first thing. Correct. Yeah, it's not even really a it's not even a choice. It's like, oh, I missed, I didn't have enough, I didn't wake up in time to make my boiled eggs and a primary and a secondary meal. I'm gonna go to Chick-fil-A and I'm gonna get this thing. It was so bad to the point where I ordered the wrong thing once. I ordered like the chicken biscuit or something like that, and I was pissed all day. I was pissed all day. I was like, I ordered that freaking chicken. Like, because I had gotten in such a routine of like that's it. So um overall, and and then I get hyper-fixated on things. That's probably my ADD, but um, so I check my blood sugar like every five, every two or three hours on a dot, see where it's at, and everything like that. So, you know, thankfully I'm seeing the progress. That's what we like, that's what we like and taking the medicines, getting my supplements back stacked back in order. We get we'll get into that a little, you know, coming weeks or whatever, vitamins and stuff like that, because they're very important. And then uh, ma'am, just trying to do the gym more. Like that's a big one, but not minimizing that 15-20 minute walk around the block. Right, right. Um, you know, taking the missus right after dinner. I'm like, put that boy in the put the baby in the stroller. Yep, yep. And let's walk around. And a lot of that has been just talking, catching up, and trying to like actually get ourselves back into order and figure out like, all right, well, we missed talking to each other for the last three days. Well, let's catch up.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
J.StaffSo which which is trying to help the mental piece as well. Correct. So uh as far as mental health, um I have been it's up until yesterday, I was I was jolly great. Yeah, yeah. I was it well, and and so and and I don't even want to say I'm bad because I'm I'm extremely blessed, very fortunate to be able to not be. I mean, I have the ability to be able to uh I'm blessed. Let's just put it that way. All right. We're blessed. And so we're not like, you know, the baby's gonna still eat, I'm still home, you know, the podcast will continue.
SPEAKER_02I was about to say next week.
J.StaffYou know, the plans will still be. And hey, actually, with it, with this, we may, you may see more of the Unk Talk podcast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But and then there were two. Right, exactly. But uh really it's just been um, you know, really just challenging myself to be to like, are you are you that you say you are, you know what I'm saying? Are you are you the oh you say you could do it? True that life will give you that chance to prove it's are you is that you? Uh-huh, uh-huh. You daddy. And so are are you him? Yeah. And so now I've gotten to a point where I'm like, oh, I need to, I need to show I'm him. I need to show I'm him. And so, man, before we came down here, that was one reason why I was late. I had a couple meetings, reaching out to people. I was like, all right, oh, I know you have a business, let's hook up. Yeah. You know, let's work on some stuff. I have a I've got a runway, let's see what we can do. And just really um, you know, working out that black book that well, you know, the the the contact book and being like oh, oh, oh colleague, what's up? I see you got a little, you know, you doing this. Let me what what can I do to hop on? What's what's up? And seeing if I can patchwork, you know, the money together to be able to, I mean, not necessarily meet what I my salary what I was at for W-2, which again we'll get into this when we do our finance season. This is in season three. But for my 1099, I don't need to make what I made for W-2 because I'm not paying the taxes and the this and the that, and it's going to my business, and the business is gonna be able to write off a whole bunch of stuff. And so now I don't, I mean, I just need to A, figure out what what it looks like, what I need to get, and then as you say, work backwards. Right, baby, reverse engineer. Reverse engineer back to where I need to be, and just follow the play to where we are. Same thing, it's the same way we got here to the to the Unc Talk podcast. It's the same way that I've made it through my career, yeah, and it's gonna be the same thing that takes me into you know the next phase.
SPEAKER_07It's tried and true, it works. You know, I told you it's it's the most impressive thing about you to me. I I I I love, love, love.
J.StaffOh, thank you, Joe.
SPEAKER_07Love it, man. It's it was one of the I swear, man, sometimes you don't know like you're talking about where that catalyst will come from, how it will come, all of that, and boy, that was one of those things where it's like, oh no, that's you can follow it so simply, it's not a difficult concept to grasp. And you can do it. You can just do it. Where is it? Where do you want to be? Whatever it is. What does that look like either day before, day before, year before year before month? And you can just go back to where you are right now and you got the exact path.
J.StaffIt's it's so then it's just like, what do you want to do today? Exactly. What do you want to do tomorrow? There's a Chinese proverb that sticks out that where it's like the Great Wall of China was built with one grain of rice at a time, or something like that, to whatever. But like whatever. I mean, whatever. Right. Well, I don't know. Hey, hey, don't quote me on that. Don't quote me.
SPEAKER_03But right, right.
J.StaffWait, I've lost all 10. We've lost all 10 listeners already. They're like, he's he's horrible.
SPEAKER_00Oh man.
J.StaffHey, hey, but you like ask it's with authority, bro. You say authority. I ain't mad at it. Um but you know, but again, a mile is run one step at a time. That's right. That's right. It's it's one step at a time. And you know, if you know you can't know where you want to go, you can't you can't get there unless you know where you want to go. That's right, yeah. And but if you know the destination, you done figured out half the problem. I was about to say that's the hard part. That's the part, that's the hard part. That's the hard part. If you know the destination, come on, yeah. You can you can reverse engineer anything. Look, these I I got an iPhone. If I pull it apart on each of its components and and and watch myself do it, you know, mark everything, you know, get all the um, what they call it, the schematics or whatever, like schematic everything, I can build an iPhone. You should be able to. Now, as complex, as crazy as it looks, bruh, I can still build an iPhone. Because it's just one chip at a time, one one battery component, one soldering element at a time, and one, you know, piece and element at a time that's put together to give you the iPhone. Yeah, that's a good one. And so that's literally how life is, to the point where if you want to be a billionaire, okay, well, let's figure out. Okay. Well, there's a formula for it. There's a formula for it. Yeah. It's not secret. I mean, no. There, I mean, and this is not to take take into account that there's some elements of luck. There's luck, right? But um, being a being a person of finance, luck is just unmitigated. Like it's it's just exceptional returns for uh the right amount of risk that you took, right? So you took one piece of risk and you got over and exceeding returns than you than you expected. It's called or alpha, or what we call it in investment terms, right? Alpha exists, and that's cool. And that that's basically luck. So hey, hey, finance bros, you can uh you can debate me in the comments. But here's the thing like the it but but there is beta, and beta is the market.
unknownOkay.
J.StaffBeta is the market with finance, finance stock.
SPEAKER_03And and the market is not a whatever level of risk that you're yeah.
J.StaffIt's the it's the proper level of risk and return in balance, basically. And so you can if you know what type of risk you want, you know what type of returns you're gonna get. It's the same thing with life. If you know what you're willing to do, we can work. If you know what you want, we just have to work back what you're willing to do for it. Yeah. Okay, if you're willing to work step by step.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what you're willing to do for it.
J.StaffThere it lies the rub. That's the problem. That's the that that's the challenge right there. What are you willing to do for it?
SPEAKER_03How much do you really want? Typically, the do is typically sacrifice. Of course. It's what do you sacrifice? Right. Yeah. Do, yes. And then in terms of sacrifice. Pay, sacrifice, you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_07Pay time, sanity. So many, so many things, right, exist in that. Comfort? Yeah. Yeah. So many things exist there. Yeah. And different for everyone, right? It's different for everybody. And what you're willing to do directly is going to correlate.
J.Staff100% getting out of it. It's a direct X, Y axis. I can plot. Like I can tell you what you're doing now, and I can tell you what you're going to get.
SPEAKER_07Uh-huh. 100%. 100%. Yeah, that's that's easy. But we want to ignore Let me not say it that way. There are people who choose to ignore that, and then I get to blame it on something else. Because if I just ignore how much I'm putting into this, don't look at that part. But I'm not getting nothing out of it. It's like, well, if the question is, well, what are you putting into it? Nope. A lot of people don't like to answer that question.
J.StaffBruh. You know. I'll say I'll say I'll say this and then we'll and then we'll move on a little bit. But, you know, one conversation we had when we were really, really young, um, it was, you know, and I was having challenges in my personal life, but my career was going great. And you were like, well, you know, if you apply some of those characteristics that you do in your career to your personal, you might see the same results in your career. And the f and and when you said it, it's so simple. It's so simple to say that, but it was such an eye-opening thing. But then if you cross-apply that to everything you do, if you put the set if you put the same results in, you'll get the same accent. You'll get the same, you know. If you pay, there is a return for it, right? Yep. Is it 100% exactly? No. Right, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But you're not gonna get nothing. True. There you go. There's not gonna typically you're not gonna get negative. Typically, right, yeah, yeah. Right. And and and and if you are seeing negative, that's typically because you just haven't waited a little, you haven't done enough to, you haven't waited long enough to see the return. Because yeah, there's you take L's in the short term. Yes, but in the long run, the the SP is up and to the right. All right, getting richer, right? But um SP, yeah. I like it. The one thing we didn't mention here is the spiritual spiritual health. Yeah. And, you know, I know this is the one where we will all this will probably be one of the most spirited debates. Not even debates, but spirited conversations, because you know, um I would say, you know, spirit. What are we doing on time? Oh, JJ's gonna JJ's gonna give me the uh give me the 10 minutes when uh when I'm good on 10 minutes. But is he gonna give me the thumbs up when uh if uh if we're good?
SPEAKER_03Cool, cool, cool, okay. So spiritual health.
J.StaffSo we do the spiritual health, and so um you know that's something that we need to keep a mind on and um and and and just be sure that we don't neglect. Because the, you know, we can have our minds, we can have our bodies, but if we're if we're not focused on what what fuels that spiritual, that inner man and feed him, all of the you can have the health, you can have the wealth, you can have the you know, but you won't have the peace. Yeah, it all fits together. And without the peace, all of this is for naught. Like you might as well. I could also believe that, yeah. There's a lot of people that you know, they're I mean they're wealthy beyond, you know, they seem they have all the family. It's again like what we said, you know, a lot of people go on quietly. And some of that's mental health, but some of that's spiritual. We're we like spir we're we're we the emptiness of the culture right now, which is one reason why we're even doing this, is is it's very prevalent. The emptiness is just there's so much there's so much dark space. It's a big void. It's a void, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Um that needs to be filled. There is a spiritual void, and you see it in the actions, uh, the the lack of humanity that you're starting to see where it's like oof, you know, no amount of hanging out, brotherhood is gonna feel that sort of thing in you. Yeah, you know, uh it helps. Because I'll I'll say this, it's it's strange because immediately when I think about my spiritual health, I also think about like how much the relationship between my wife and I helps my spiritual health. Yeah. I I I don't exactly understand the correlation right now, if I'm being honest with you. But when my wife and I are in a better place, I have a much better relationship with my God. I have a much better I don't know, again, I don't fully understand what this correlation is, but I feel it a hundred percent when we're doing better. My channels are more open for that. And I don't know if that's because I feel like that's part of the blessing is is is her. I don't again, I don't know that correlation yet, but man, it's evident to me that man, my spiritual health is tied to how my wife and I's relationship is. And I don't I don't know. Like I said, I don't I don't know, but it it's it's something that really intrigues me about how my brain processes those two things and why they're so tied uh together. Yeah. Yeah. But we'll get into that. We'll get into it. It's gonna be that's gonna be my favorite discussion, I think.
J.StaffWe're gonna get into it. I think we're we're gonna definitely jump into it, man. It's gonna be a wild ride this weekend. Uh as and for the next for the next probably, I think we're gonna do 12 weeks of health, and it's gonna be very interesting. So, man, hey, look, this is probably, you know, you know, we're this is the the start of a of a cool adventure, and man, I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I'm looking forward to it. I even just what he just said, I was like, I can't wait. Okay, okay, okay. This is uh yeah, let's go.
J.StaffLet's see these spots.
SPEAKER_07This is how we're here. This is why we're here, man.
J.StaffAll right, and and well, so before we wrap up, I think we're kind of wrapping up now. So let's let's just leave off with one idea, what we're looking forward to, what we want to get, what we want the people to feel. You know. Um what what do you what what you what do you want to people what do you what what's your party thoughts right now on the I just hope that the people out there are able to feel how this feels to us.
SPEAKER_07I hope we're able to convey that. I hope we're able to because this sort of energy you don't get on the on the on the Riverside Call. You don't you don't get it that this is this is palpable and I know that it's gonna come through and I'm just excited. I'm excited for that. I'm excited for them to feel us when we're when we're discussing these things.
SPEAKER_03Cool, cool Yeah, yeah. Um I'm definitely I'm hoping that we're just creating the space for conversation. You know, obviously definitely I'm hoping that people are have their minds open to be benefited by it. You know, not everything that we say fits everyone's situation in all uh contexts and things like that. So some of the stuff may apply, may not apply, but um just that they're open to what we have to say, you know, with grace. You know what I mean? Not everything that we say comes out exactly how we'll want to say it or conveys the idea, the idea we wanted to convey, but mostly that um, yeah, their hearts and their minds are open to what we have to talk about. Cool, cool, man, man.
J.StaffAnd I I've I think I echo a lot of what you guys feel. I wanna we're gonna have fun. We're gonna have a lot of fun, we're gonna shoot a lot of content, we're gonna, and we're gonna show that, yes, we're gonna talk about health and you know, being serious, taking it seriously, but we're also gonna have fun. We're gonna we're gonna have a little drink, we're gonna smoke some cigars, we're gonna eat some good food. You know, you gotta have that break time uh uh in order to, you know, really dive dive in and be disciplined, to have the you know, space to be disciplined. So uh again, we want to shout out again uh podcast studio Austin for hosting us, JJ in the booth, holding us down. Hey, we were regular black folks and we were late. We were we were late.
