Inner Strength Meditations
Beyond the stage and its players
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Look beyond the actors and props on a stage, noticing the backdrop behind it all. In the same way, we practice looking beyond all our thoughts to see the quality of awareness behind all of our thoughts and memories. This practice brings a fascinating sense of calm and energy.
Why this helps? Shifting attention to awareness rather than thoughts builds our patience, curiosity, and ease.
Welcome And Practice Framing
SPEAKER_00Welcome to Inner Strength Meditations. For a little calm and care, we got you. In this open awareness practice, allow yourself to just rest. We're paying attention to the way we pay attention. It's a little bit like noticing the backdrop of a stage rather than the actors in the play on the stage. You can just follow me.
Posture And Body Setup
SPEAKER_00Allow yourself to sit in your best mindfulness posture with your feet flat on the floor and your spine rising tall, noticing your weight on the chair, letting your body be still. If you're lying down, allow yourself to be comfortable. Keep your spine straight. Whether you're lying or sitting, just notice the surface beneath you and how gravity pulls you down, hugging you to the earth. And how whatever's underneath you holds you up. You can let your muscles relax. Let the muscles of your face soften just a little.
Stage Metaphor For Awareness
SPEAKER_00Noticing the scenery in the backdrop, noticing the actors, noticing how they talk to each other, play off one another, how the drama of the story is playing out. Maybe it's a musical and there's a lot of movement and dance. Usually we're so absorbed in the story, in the actors moving around. Right now, let's shift our attention to the black curtain behind the props, behind the actors. Just rest your attention there, letting the actors and the story fade from your mind's eye. Letting all the thoughts and the dramas that go on in all of our lives just fade into the background.
Resting In Pure Awareness
SPEAKER_00And just pay attention to that quality of being awake and aware, that quality of noticing. That backdrop curtain is there. Whether it's a comedy or a tragedy, our awareness is there, paying attention to everything that happens in our lives. Let yourself rest your attention there. Allow yourself to feel calm and steady. Allow yourself to feel your own strength.
Returning With Strength And Qualities
SPEAKER_00Now, as we refocus our attention on the room around us, bring to mind your strengths, your good qualities. And as you bring them into focus, you strengthen your awareness of them. And as you strengthen your awareness of your own good qualities, they will support you even more throughout the day. Pretty awesome.
