What if this isn’t the end — but the beginning of becoming a stronger, smarter, and more confident man?

In this episode of The Badass Comeback, I flip the script on pain and show you exactly why heartbreak is one of the greatest opportunities most men will ever get.

You’ll discover how to turn your breakup or divorce into real growth by focusing on three powerful shifts:

  • Cutting out unnecessary things from your schedule and life so you stop wasting energy on distractions, people-pleasing, and things that no longer serve you.
  • Adopting the “Obstacles are opportunities” mindset — a simple but powerful reframing that turns rejection, loneliness, and setbacks into fuel instead of defeat.
  • Taking small, consistent action steps that rebuild your confidence faster than waiting for motivation ever could.

This is about using the pain you’re already feeling as rocket fuel to become more focused, disciplined, and self-respecting than you were before the breakup.

If you’re tired of feeling broken and ready to turn this painful chapter into your strongest comeback yet, this episode will show you exactly how.

If this episode resonates and you’re ready to stop surviving and start rebuilding with purpose, head to the link in bio for more tools and resources.

Heartbreak hurts.
But it can also be the best thing that ever happened to you — if you choose to use it.

Let’s turn pain into power.

All right, welcome back, boys. Today we're talking about a reality of breakups and divorces that you're probably never going to hear anywhere else. On one hand, we can admit heartbreak is no joke. It's tough. And yeah, you'll eventually feel better, but the secret reality is that you're literally in a golden opportunity to rebuild yourself stronger, smarter, and more confident than you ever thought possible. By the end of this episode, you will know what it's gonna take to get you there and exactly how to leverage this time in your life to springboard and to success in your career, dating, and everything else in between. Let's go. I want you to imagine a graph. On that graph is a line that goes from left to right. This line is your life satisfaction. Since the day you were born, this line has moved up and down in small increments with good days and bad days. You can call the relatively flat parts of this line your baseline. Something horrible that happens may cause a dip downwards below your baseline and big spikes upwards above your baseline when something awesome happens. But it usually levels off at your average eventually. For new relationships, obviously this is going to cause a big spike upwards, then a breakup causes a huge crash that dives down way below your baseline. For those of you whose life satisfaction curve is at a low point, realize that you not only have tons of room to get it back up there, you actually have the potential to get your baseline above your average from before the relationship. In other words, making your average days even better than before. And when you apply the concepts in this episode with diligence, the progress you make while you're still at this low point will make amplifying your results in the future that much easier simply because you will have a rock solid foundation that you built while you were in this low point. Okay, so how do we accomplish this? There are three things you need to springboard up to that point and beyond, and they are time, mindset, and action. Let's talk about your time first. When your ex left, she handed you your time back. You don't have to share your time with her anymore. You no longer have to do all the extra errands, the shopping, the dates, the talking, the arguing, the time with her family, etc. Now, with this newly available time, it's really easy to get lost at sea. All this time alone feels like this daunting vastness that surrounds you. With that in mind, obviously there are two roads you can go down. You can fill that time with pleasure-seeking activities that you can use as a distraction or coping mechanism. In essence, not really doing anything to build yourself stronger and more or less staying in the same spot. The other road is one of rebuilding. This is where you're doing anything you can to help pull yourself out of this slump and soon start learning what it will take to rebuild into a life that was even better than before. But, of course, we have to be realistic about this. If you're still being weighed down by the raw, shitty feelings of heartbreak, it can be extremely difficult to find the motivation to do something as simple as getting off the couch. But let's say that you're a couple months into this breakup and you're finding it easier to get started on something great. Trying to rebuild too quickly can actually lead to you giving up. And this isn't me saying that you're weak. I'm just trying to be realistic about how easy it is to give up when you've bitten off more than you can chew. Because you're probably still working your day job, taking care of your kids, all the chores, etc. Even those things by themselves can be difficult to trudge through. Then you add a bunch of self-improvement shit that eats up the rest of your time. You could have a recipe for failure. And this is basically learned helplessness, which some of you are recognizing from episode three. The key here is to start small in terms of your schedule. We're going to cover what actions you should plan first here in a bit. For right now, though, all you have to do is take a look at your free time. What do you see yourself doing with all of it? Are you watching TV? Are you doom scrolling? On social media, ordering junk food, hanging out with people who aren't going anywhere in life, on hookup apps? Or are you already in the gym, out socializing, making healthy meals, anything productive like that? Really think about what you're doing with that free time these days. Next, I want you to categorize what is productive and what is not. If you have productive shit in there, obviously keep it. But for the non-productive stuff, start thinking about what you can cut first. What will be easiest to do away with right now? For a lot of guys, it's actually social media. Social media is actually not good for your self-esteem, even if everything in your life is going okay. It seems that you either get people who are constantly whining and being Debbie Downers or people posting about how amazing their life is. Either way, scrolling past both of those things is not going to be good for you right now. And besides, why do you want to be constantly looking at how other people are living their lives? This time in your life is about you. So you basically want all of your senses focused on what is going to move you forward. So regardless if it's social media or something else, pick one thing that you can cut. The reason we start cutting unnecessary shit out of our schedule when we're getting ready to move up in life is that it's way harder to add good stuff when you're still filling your time with stuff that isn't good. So take some time. Really look at your schedule and start with at least one thing you can cut. Quick side note: which one of those non-productive things helps you relax after you've been busting ass all day? You should keep that in your schedule. It's going to help you unwind in a few weeks once your schedule is more full. And obviously, if it's something destructive like excessive drinking, substances, fucking around with hose, watching porn, really consider relaxing some other way. Okay, so that's it as far as your time goes. Next is mindset. The most important mindset I want you to adopt today is actually one that you will hang on to for the rest of your life. And once you experience the greatness that follows, you will become addicted to it. It will become a part of who you are, and honestly, it won't take much to get there. And that mindset is obstacles are opportunities. Guys, if you want to get good at anything in your life, you must adopt this mindset. The greatest athletes, musicians, entrepreneurs, you name it, all live by this. Obstacles are inevitable. You can choose to use obstacles as an excuse to give up, or you can choose to use them as opportunities to become even more badass. I want you to think of one of your achievements that was really difficult to attain. It can be something as simple as trying to pass a class in school. If you didn't fail the class, you passed, you won. But did you ever struggle in that class? Did you ever have to go back and study a concept that you couldn't quite grasp at first? What about sports? How about a conflict with a family member that you were able to resolve? Guys, every single one of you has already overcome thousands of obstacles in your life. Of course, some were bigger than others. But each time you conquered those obstacles, you learned, you adjusted your strategy, and you succeeded. Understand that your capacity to overcome obstacles is already inside of you. Okay, but how can we apply this to us today? Well, we have to reverse engineer it. We have to intentionally set goals that will have obstacles. And we're going to do that here in a bit. But why make life harder? Why not just stay exactly where we're at and avoid those challenges? Well, that's a great way to stay exactly where you're at, keep dating the same caliber of women, and to look back in 20 years wishing you had taken this opportunity to chase your goals. So, yes, we have to set goals that will have obstacles that we will expect to run into. But the secret is not to achieve a certain level of money, status, or fame. We pursue challenges filled with obstacles to build our confidence. Because honestly, your confidence doesn't give a shit how much money you have, who knows your name, or even who you're dating. I know guys who are flat broke and way more confident than guys who make more in a month than you and I make in a year. But understand that confidence is the bedrock of whatever goal you want to achieve. It is the foundation of your ability to overcome obstacles and keep pushing forward. Your confidence will also get you the social life you want and the high-quality women you will be able to choose from. The best way to build your confidence is to not only accept that obstacles will come your way, but to have the willingness to welcome those obstacles purely for the fact that you will find a way around them, learn and adjust your strategy and succeed. I mean, this isn't to say that you should be thinking, yeah, I can't wait to get a gym routine so I can experience muscle failure. Yay! No, it's more like I can't wait to learn what it will take to keep going when I encounter these obstacles. I can't wait to get creative and adjust my plan to elevate me even further. Let's say that you and a coworker started a new job at the same time. They work 40 hours a week and you work 50 hours a week. A year goes by, guess who's gonna have more experience? Yeah, obviously you are because you have hundreds of extra hours of encountering obstacles they haven't even seen yet. Guess which one of you is gonna be favored for that promotion? I think you get my point. Obstacles are opportunities. Yes, sometimes they suck, but just like a good gym routine that breaks down muscle to make them stronger, overcoming your obstacles will make you stronger. And boys, overcoming your obstacles not only reorients yourself in the right direction, it propels you forward. It's kind of like drag racing. You race until something breaks or blows up. And yeah, that's a shit feeling. But then you take a breath, you figure out what the problem was, and replace it with better parts that will help you go even faster. And lastly, the bigger the obstacle, the harder you will bounce back. Just like this breakup. All you have to do is not give up. When you encounter an obstacle, take a breath and search for the solution. You will emerge smarter and ready for the next obstacle. All right, third point, action. Now that you're gonna free up some time and live by the ironclad mindset to overcome your obstacles, it's time to make some action steps. Take some time after this episode to pick one thing you need to improve. And for some of you, you already know what that thing is gonna be. Sweet. Take anything and everything into consideration. Maybe it's something you didn't have time for when you were with your ex. Now the gears are turning. More importantly, pick something that you know will easily increase your confidence. Some things to consider are your career, your health, hobbies. For some guys, is signing up for a co-ed sports league. Some guys find that getting a project car to restore will be that confidence booster. Some guys take a look in the mirror and decide to work on our body. One of my best friends got divorced a few years back, and I recently asked him what he did to rebuild his confidence shortly after they split. And he was still really torn up about the divorce, and split custody of his kids was really fucking him up. But he basically said, you know what, man, with all that extra time, I actually started working more. Not only did it prevent me from getting too stuck in my feels, I focused on ways to elevate my performance at work, and it gave me a really big confidence boost. So, boys, take some time and figure out one thing that you want to start improving. And don't worry if what you pick is just for fun. The key here is to start with something attainable that will give you more faith in yourself. So once you pick that thing, go back to your calendar and start blocking out time to work on it. Start small. Let's say it's starting a gym routine. One day you can plot out a half hour to look up gyms or programs in your area. Next day you commit to going there and signing up. The next day, getting some gym clothes. You get my point. However, you decide to do it, these small steps that you put on your calendar for this new goal need to be non-negotiable tasks. What this means is that there is no escaping it unless, God forbid, there's some kind of emergency. Non-negotiables must be completed. The only reason I say this is that as you're listening to this episode, you're probably thinking, oh yeah, I can definitely accomplish that tomorrow. Easy. But tomorrow could bring different feelings or energy levels with it. You may come home from work and decide to skip your task and procrastinate. And at that point, you're just giving in to your feelings. Schedule a small step and make it a non-negotiable. And of course, if you have the energy to do more in that moment, fucking do it. As you start knocking these small steps off your calendar, schedule some bigger steps. Soon you will start knocking those out of the park, and then that will be the time to set a more specific goal for sometime in the future. You know, something I hear a lot is that you first have to set a goal and then plan backwards from there. But to be honest, it's really hard to set that goal and stick to a schedule if you're still weighed down with heavy feelings. It can be overwhelming. That's why I'm recommending starting with small steps to build momentum. And then the motivation for the bigger steps will start to push you along further. Once you get warmed up with a couple of weeks or so of small steps, getting specific with that goal will not only be easier to do, you will have a much better idea of exactly what you want that goal to be. Tagging on to the gym routine example from above, if let's say you've completed a week or so of going to the gym, you do some cardio, some weights, and some stretching. Now is the time to get specific after a couple of weeks. You may think, you know what? I actually want to focus on cardio until I can, I don't know, do a 5K in X amount of time. Then I'll add a lifting routine. Once you hit your 5K goal, you can start setting specific lifting goals, etc. Something that'll actually help you stay committed is to involve someone else who is trained in that field, whatever it is. Like an example is getting a personal trainer in your gym routine. You can find a mentor at work or work in that project car with a buddy of yours. Having someone else alongside you will do wonders for feeling more like yourself again. Social interaction is very important in this time, and the main purpose of it is to keep you out of deep depression. Okay, so let's say that you're a couple of months down the road, you've been knocking down your action steps and starting to get good at whatever it is you're working on. Now it's time to start thinking about a bigger goal that will elevate your confidence even further. It can be fine-tuning your current goal to make it bigger or something else that you can add to your schedule. If you want to make your current goal bigger, just add bigger action steps. If it's a new goal that you decide to add on, just rinse and repeat. Start with small, non-negotiables and go from there. And along the way, boys, don't be afraid to pause and refine that goal and pivot your action steps. That is all good. It only means you're serious about improving yourself. Here's a quick tip for picking a goal. There are two different ways to pitch an idea to yourself. One way is to only pitch the benefits, and the other way is to also be realistic and open your eyes to the obstacles that will be in your way. You know, because if you told yourself, you know what, I'm going to start a business, I'm going to change the world to make tons of money. Yeah, that's attainable. But the more realistic approach is to add, yeah, but I'm going to have to put in a ton of work with no pay right off the bat. I'm also going to have to deal with setbacks. I might get burnt out, et cetera. After getting a good idea of those obstacles that will be in your way, if you still decide, yeah, you know what? Despite those obstacles, I still want to work towards this goal, you will be much better equipped to handle those obstacles. So make sure you are going to be willing to overcome those obstacles when you are deciding on that goal. Bonus points if it's something that you would really enjoy doing. If you can see yourself staying in love with that goal, despite the obstacles that come with it, not only will you gladly overcome those obstacles, it's also a great way to stay motivated and not lose hope. But wait, so what's the point of all this? Just to fill your schedule with shit to do? I mean, anyone can go to the gym. How's that supposed to bring you above your baseline and start feeling more confident than ever? I want you to understand something, guys. When you start walking down this path, you will find yourself looking further ahead. You'll start seeing things you never saw before. You'll start realizing that massive goals that were perhaps out of your reach before, even when life was great, are now within your grasp. Confidence building not only helps you feel and look better, it helps you see what you can accomplish next. But confidence doesn't add up. It multiplies. If you spend the next year on your goal or goals that will increase in size, you will start to notice bigger and better opportunities. And you're going to think to yourself, you know what? That would actually be awesome to achieve. Yeah, it's going to be challenging, but hey, those obstacles are just more opportunities, and I'll happily overcome them to get me closer to that goal. Then at that point, you're going to be skilled enough in carving out that time and setting awesome action steps that will start taking you there. And you're going to have the mindset needed to learn from those obstacles and setbacks and shit. From there, the sky is the fucking limit. You're basically set for life. Gentlemen, you are literally in your golden opportunity right now. Yes, this is a very dark time. You lost something that was meaningful to you. You put so much time, love, and energy into that relationship. But understand that you now have freedom to do things you didn't have time to before. You have the freedom to take that energy and redirect it. So go out there and start making small steps towards a goal that makes sense to you. Everything in your life will elevate as a result. And you better be prepared to become a better man, an even better father, someone people will look up to. And yes, somewhere down the line, you will find a high-quality woman who loves you way more than any of your exes, supports you a thousand percent, and is excited to walk beside you. I mean, shit, if you keep marching down this path, she might actually find you. A man who is driven and focused is extremely rare these days. You're not going to have a lot of competition. But of course, don't let the power of persuasion pull you off track. Stay focused and put your goals first. You'll figure out how to work in relationship time down the line. In fact, we're going to cover that in a future episode. Quick recap. Cut out the unnecessary shit from your schedule. Decide on one thing to start working on. Come up with small action steps day by day that will be a good confidence boost for you. Then set a goal, fine-tune it, and start making bigger steps when you're ready. Be willing to gladly overcome the obstacles that come with that goal. And fucking trust me when I say this. You will gain your confidence back faster than you think. You will start letting go of her faster than you think. You will become extremely focused, motivated, excited. You will have clarity and direction. You will feel your testosterone coursing through your veins. Your outlook on life will be awesome and positive. Any obstacle in your way is fucking handled immediately, and you will rocket forward after each one. This is your time, boys. This is your life. Welcome to your badass comeback.
