In a world that never stops moving, getting quiet might be the most radical thing you can do.

In this episode, host Megan gets honest about something she still struggles with — sitting with herself, turning down the noise of the outside world, and actually listening to what’s going on inside. Whether you’re spiritually curious, nervous-system aware, or just exhausted from being busy all the time, this episode is your permission slip to slow down.

Tied to the weekly Glimpse Guide — your Sunday snack for your soul — this conversation breaks down what “getting quiet” actually means, why it’s so uncomfortable, and six practical tools you can start using this week.

🔑 Key Takeaways

•Getting quiet isn’t about an empty mind. It’s about turning the volume down on the outside so you can hear what’s happening inside.
•Your nervous system needs stillness to access clarity. You literally cannot hear yourself when you’re in survival mode.
•Discomfort in the quiet is information. What you’re avoiding when you avoid stillness is worth paying attention to.
•The divine speaks in the quiet. Whether you call it God, the universe, or your inner knowing — that still small voice needs space to be heard.
•Joy is your birthright. Stillness is how you remember that.

📖 Episode Highlights

What Does “Getting Quiet” Really Mean?

It doesn’t mean sitting perfectly still with a blank mind. As Megan puts it, it’s about “quieting the outside so you can hear what’s going on inside.” There are two layers — the practical (your nervous system literally needs stillness to think clearly) and the spiritual (this is where divine guidance shows up).

Why It’s So Hard

We are addicted to distraction. Phones, noise, packed schedules — and busyness has become a badge of honor. Sitting with yourself feels uncomfortable. But that discomfort? It’s actually good information. Even the most self-aware, spiritually grounded people struggle with this. You’re not broken — it’s just hard.

What You Might Find In There

This is the good stuff. Grief you haven’t processed. Joy you forgot you had. Clarity on a decision you’ve been overthinking. Your actual desires — not the ones you’ve been performing for other people. Downloads, ideas, nudges. And a deep reminder that you are worthy of love, worthy of your desires, and worthy of this time.

6 Ways to Practice Stillness This Week

1.Breathwork — 3–5 minutes of box breathing creates an instant window of stillness
2.Morning journaling — write before your brain gets loud; no filter, no editing
3.Silent walk — no headphones, no phone; just you and the world around you
4.The manifest island — walk without distraction and see what downloads come (Megan’s personal favorite)
5.Sit with a question — put something on the table and just wait for the answer
6.Prayer or intentional stillness — “Hey God, universe — I’m here. What do you want me to see today?”

SPEAKER_00

Hi everybody, it's Megan, your host of the Glimpse Method podcast. I am happy to be here to chat with you guys about something that I've actually struggled with. I still struggle with. I think probably most people do. Um, and uh the reason I'm talking about this today is good at all times, but um, you know, in your life, but the energy of this week, which I just talked about on Sunday on my new uh series, the Glimpse Weekly Glimpse Guide, um Sunday snack for your soul. So looking at the energy of the week ahead here, and the week we're actually in now, um it calls for us to get quiet and look inside. So, what does that really even mean? Um, I feel like we live in a world that is just so loud and so um, you know, there's no like patience anymore. Our kids want immediate gratification, you know, we never even wonder about it's like wonder or try to remember something, we can just type it into our phone and you know find out the answer. Now, it may not be totally accurate, so that's an issue. We're in a trust recession, too, I think, with AI and everything that's been happening, but to really um stop the noise and look inside, and by noise I just mean the outside world. So um, what does that actually mean? It doesn't mean that you're just I mean, you're quiet, you're not talking, you're not looking at anything, you're just kind of sitting with yourself. It's not about having an empty mind. Um, so don't worry about that. I think a lot of people think meditation, and this this is kind of meditation. So we'll we'll get into ways that you can do this, practical ways, um, that you can actually practice this, but it's such an important thing uh uh to have basically in your life, in your daily, in your daily life, really. But um it's about um just quieting the outside so you can hear what's going on inside. There's two layers to explore here. So there's like the practical, your nervous system needs stillness to access clarity. So you literally cannot hear yourself if you're in survival mode, or you you don't even have time, you know, you may get hints um here and there, and usually how that works is I feel like the universe or God is giving you, you know, little nudges here and there, um, and then eventually they get louder and louder until you just cannot ignore it anymore. So what we're trying to avoid here is um getting to that extreme. Um, so there's also the spiritual layer. So this is where God, the universe, the divine, whatever you believe in speaks to you in a way. So you you may be asking something, um, you know, needing clarification on something, or just you know, having there's a decision. Um, in my glimpse guide this week, I talked about, you know, think about what you're trying to call forward and or manifest or what you want in your life. Is it really true to what your soul needs and wants? Because sometimes we look outside for things to make us whole, things to make us happy, and clearly we know um that that is not the way to do it. Um, plenty of people have tried, and you can talk to people about this. Um, you know, if this were the case, I guess people with billions of dollars and they're able to buy whatever they want would be the happiest people, and we know that's not true. Sometimes they're the saddest, the most empty. Um, so just looking inside to see if what you're calling out or the direction you're going in life is really the direction you should be going. Is it making you feel good? Um, do you know in a manifestation we talk about um calling in things, but actually the thing you want is you basically want it because of the way you think it's gonna make you feel. So the idea is to get that feeling first, and that thing should come um effortlessly into your life. So, um, why is it so hard to do this, to sit in the quiet? Well, there's probably a lot of reasons, but we are totally addicted to distraction, to phones, noise, busyness. It's almost like you know, I I feel like we're coming around now, but it's almost like busyness is like this badge of honor. Like, I am so busy, I you know, I like I am so important. You don't even know. Like, that's almost like what they're saying. Um, sitting with yourself can feel really uncomfortable, and that discomfort is actually good information. So, you know, you should be able to sit with yourself and not be uncomfortable, but it's you still are, it's still gonna happen. It's never, it's probably never, I mean, unless maybe like you're a meditating monk that that's used to doing that all the time, but um so it's good to think about like what are you actually avoiding um when you avoid the the quiet or just being with yourself or just you know having some time on the weekend or after work, like not just packing our schedules and our kids' schedules with so much stuff. Um, you know, recently my husband and I talked about maybe starting to we have to start slow, but we're just like, you know, we should really start to um honor the Sabbath on Sunday. Um, and of course, so now I have a thing that I that I do on Sundays, my little glimpse guide um that I will be doing on Sundays, but that's 10 minutes. Um anyway, we were like, well, we gotta start, you know, slow with this. And uh it is really just hard to you know make like no plans and you know just sit with yourself. So let's try to normalize that. Even the most spiritual and self-aware people struggle with this. Is is I mean, it's like why meditation seems so hard. Um, and that's kind of why I uh I was so happy when I found breath work because it is a meditation, but it gives you something to focus focus on, and it's breathing, which you have to do anyway. So um it's it's kind of a nice way to to ease into this. Um, but we'll talk about ways that practical ways that you can do this in your life. Um so the scary part is like, you know, okay, if I sit in the quiet, what what am I gonna find? What am I gonna realize? You know, um, and so some things that can come up are you know some grief that you haven't quite processed, um, joy that you forgot you had, that's the great part. Um, clarity on a decision you've been overthinking, maybe a nudge or a whisper, and knowing um that you know you have divine guidance, whether it's you know, by our creator or the universe, whatever you believe. Um and you know, pretty soon your actual desires will come forward versus the ones that you've been like performing, or the ones maybe your family put on you, or your spouse, or your kids, or you know, you really get to have this time where you are I mean, just it's not selfish, but just like be selfish and take this time for yourself because it is so amazing what you can learn about yourself, number one. Number two, the clarity that comes with that quiet, um and the downloads you get, ideas, you know, just so many things uh happen on a daily basis with me for when I'm when I'm practicing this, which is usually I try to do it daily. Um and I just get these amazing ideas and um things to try and you know it's pretty pretty spectacular. So ways that you can actually put this into practice. So I talked about the breath work, so even just like three to five minutes of intentional breath, like everybody knows the box breath, you know, you could do that. Um you know, just it just creates this kind of window of stillness for you, and you know, your mind is kind of occupied by counting, you know, your you're holding your breath, you're exhaling um to account. Um and then maybe after you do that for a few minutes, you can just sit in the quiet and you can think of things to ask the universe, or you know, why if there's something you're struggling with, like why am I struggling with this? Like, what is the answer? And just kind of sitting there um in the quiet, which is hard to do, but it is so worth it. Um some people do uh like these morning um kind of brain dumps. So when they you're most um receptive, like right before you fall asleep and right when you wake up. So just you know, before you even get out of bed, I like to do a little bit of gratitude. Um, you know, kind of wake up, get my bearings, do a do a little quick um gratitude practice just in my head. And then you can take a journal and just start writing, like whatever is uh coming to you, just kind of like a brain dump in the morning. Maybe it's like a dream you had or you know, something that's on your mind when you wake up or a solution to a problem. Um going on a walk without headphones, without your phone. Um, you know, if you feel like you need your phone for safety, yeah, put it in your pocket, but tell yourself that you're not gonna be looking at it. Um just you know, listen to the sounds outside, look at the scenery, um just you know, let let things unfold around you and see what comes to you. Walking is a big one for me for um for kind of downloads, I guess, just with starting a business, um and just getting ideas of you know, as I learn things, how I want to share things and fun activities I can do with my school community, just things like that. Um really fun. And actually I've been doing what it's when it's in the morning, I usually take my dog on a hike or a walk, and then like in the afternoon, if I'm feeling like antsy or just like want to get some more steps in, I just like walk around my kitchen island and just with no music or anything and just you know, just let my head be clear and and see see what happens. Um and then you can also just sit with a question. So you may have something on your mind or on your heart and just put it out there in the universe and just kind of sit with it. Um you can do prayer or intentional stillness, so inviting the divine in. It doesn't have to be like super formal or religious, or it it can just, you know, like universe, I'm listening, or God, you know, what what do you need to tell me, or what do I need to see today, or what you know, just help me guide me. Um and then also I as I mentioned, I started my glimpse guide. So um it's looking at the energy of the universe at any given week, and then that Sunday for the week forward, I'll do either a little devotion or prayer or um a mini breath work session um getting uh trying to get you in that position for uh the energy that's out there in the universe for that given week. So, like I said, that's why I'm doing the sitting with the quiet because um a few of the energy kind of reports that I look into, and then also even at our church, they talked about this week um getting quiet and just slowing down. Um so we um seem to forget that joy is our birthright, and just being here is enough, and you don't have to prove anything, you are worthy of love, you are worthy of your deepest desires, um, as long as you know they're legal and they don't hurt anybody else. Um uh so just always remember that, and then I'll just challenge you for this week um to pick one of these tools that I went over. So, what did I say? You can do breath work, you can do, I don't know, some people call it morning pages or morning journaling, like journaling right when you get up, a silent walk, or my manifest island as I like to call it call it, like taking like 10 minutes and just kind of walking around my kitchen island um in the nice air conditioning. My pets watch me and think I'm crazy, but that's okay. Sometimes I'll even put a leash on Spike and he loves it. He'll go around with me. But um, so and or you could sit with a question, ask the universe, or you could have like a prayer or intentional something that you you know want answers to, or maybe you don't know, and you just want to open it up to let the universe, God creator, um, let you know uh what they what what you're supposed to be know or what not what you're supposed to be knowing, but just you know, hey God, universe, I'm here. What can you tell me today? What do you want me to see today? How can I, you know, how can I grow my vessel, my light? Um, and or you could hop over to um the episode right before this one, and um, that's my glimpse guide. That's just like a 10-minute breath work session. You can try that. So I challenge you to try one of those things, and um don't forget next Sunday to check out the weekly glimpse guide, Sunday snack for your soul. And um, just remember you are gloriously you, and that version of you deserves to be heard. So let's get quiet, let's look inside, let's cut down on the distractions, let's slow down, let's just really um, you know, we owe it to ourselves while we are here for such a short time to um figure out our soul's purpose, and it is fun, it is good, fun work, and it is not selfish, it is the most powerful thing you can do for you and anyone that is around you. So signing off for this week, let's get quiet. I challenge you, send me your results, send me what you heard. Um, you know, tell me what you did when you got quiet, and thanks for listening.
