This global event is all about coming together to raise awareness for the importance of healthy sleep, and this year’s theme - "Sleep Well, Live Better" - is exactly what I teach as a Sleep Coach for adults.

In this special episode, we move beyond the typical tips and tricks. We discuss how true sleep coaching isn't just about fixing insomnia; it’s about future-proofing your sleep for years to come.

Tune in to discover:

  • The Three Pillars of Great Sleep: A simple, cyclical framework to build your foundation. We cover why you need to "start from the top" with your wake-up time, how to manage your energy (and caffeine!) during the day, and why eating light at night can transform your rest.
  • The World Sleep Day Connection: How the global key messages of World Sleep Day actually serve as a roadmap for learning deeper Sleep Skills-techniques like regulating your nervous system and managing racing thoughts that help you go from just "getting through the night" to truly thriving.
  • An Exciting Sneak Peek: I share details about my upcoming "Sleep Well Booklet," a practical guide releasing next month designed to help you build these skills step-by-step.

If you are ready to stop fearing the night and start waking up energized, this episode is for you.

Today is World Sleep Day. So welcome to this beautiful edition of relaxing into World Sleep Day. It's always a special day, but this year feels particularly aligned with my mission as I have been a coach and one of the things I coach on is sleep for adults. So this year the theme has been for World Sleep Day sleep well, live better. That is really the core of what I do because my work isn't just about helping people overcoming long-term insomnia or fixing a sleep problem that's already there. It's about looking forward. It's about future-proofing your sleep for many years to come. That is a true tangible value that sleep coaching can bring, helping you build a foundation for a better life, starting tonight. So to celebrate today, I want to share two things with you. First, a simple framework to remember the basics of good sleep. And second, how the key messages of World Sleep Day connect directly to the skills you can learn to transform your rest. So the three pillars of great sleep. Let's start with the foundation where we look at building greater sleep. There are three main things to remember. I always tell my clients to think of it as a cycle and that you need to start from the top. So wake early and regulate your rhythm. It sounds counterintuitive if you're tired, but the first step to good sleep actually happens in the morning. Try and wake up a consistent time, even on weekends. This anchors your body internal clock and your rhythm. So when you wake early, you are exposed to natural light. You're setting a time on your brain that will tell your body it's time to release your energy. And 14 or 12 or 16 hours later, whenever it is you sleep, your body will know it's time to relax and let go. The second one is managing your energy inputs. Throughout the day, be mindful of what we put in our body. Specifically, try and drink less caffeine or anything that raises adrenaline because yes, we need that in the morning, that's what we think, especially in the afternoon. But caffeine can stay in our system for hours, and it directly blocks the chemicals that make us feel sleepy. Those natural chemicals, those natural things in our body. It suppresses them. Think of it as putting a brick on the accelerator of your nervous system when you should be coasting toward a stop. Eat light at night. I love that. Eat light at night, and I have so been living with that for the past well, 10-15 years, and it really, really works. Digestion is hard work. If you eat a heavy, rich, too close to bedtime meal, your body is busy breaking down food instead of focusing on the repair and restoration that happens during deep sleep. Which trust me for the body is a lot of work, especially for our liver. Eating light at night helps improve the quality of sleep overnight. This allows you to wake up more refreshed the next day, ready to repeat the cycle. Wake, relax, sleep. And again, wake, relax, sleep. When we consistently do things that drain our energy, what some traditions call pranic energy, we end up sleeping less or getting lower quality sleep. But when we follow the gentle cycle of waking, resting, and eating light, we enhance our energy levels, our pranic energy, which in the long run makes us sleep better, makes us feel more young, makes us feel more positive, and gives us more energy in the morning and better sleep in the night. The other thing is the World Sleep Day connection. This is the second thing I wanted to share: how the theme of sleep well, live better. It isn't just a little slogan, but it points directly to the sleep skills that you can learn. The key messages we promote on World Sleep Day are actually a fantastic roadmap. They lay a very solid foundation for learning the deeper techniques that will not only help you overcome sleep problems, but also allow you to build great sleep for the future. What are those skills? It's learning how to downregulate your nervous system, learning how to manage the racing thoughts that keep you up at 3 a.m. It's understanding your body, working with your biology, not against it. These are just a few tips and they are just the skills. They are like any skill, whether it's like playing the piano or learning a new sport, they require practice. But once you learn these, they are yours for life. This is how you go from just getting through the night to actually using your sleep to enhance your waking life. This is how we can truly live better. So as we celebrate World Sleep Day today, I invite you to think about your sleep not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity.com. So just to wrap up, remember the theme: sleep well, live better, start tonight. Try to wake at a consistent time starting tomorrow. Wash the caffeine, eat a lovely light meal in the evening, give yourself the permission to relax and just enjoy every minute of your lovely day. Thank you so much for joining me in celebrating World Sleep Day. I hope that you're able to share something amazing with yourself, with your loved ones. And here is to your health, your energy, and your future. Sleep well, everyone. Thank you.
