The National Center for Emotional Wellness presents Emotional Wellness with Dr. Mark Lerner, Empowering People Who Have Just Been Harmed. An AI Integrated Emotional Wellness Approach. Today, artificial intelligence can provide accessible, evidence-based strategies, tools, and support during a challenging experience. This 24-7 availability can be practical and particularly helpful. AI integrated emotional wellness goes a step further by recognizing the ethical and responsible interface between the cognitive abilities of artificial intelligence and the depth, uniqueness, and complexity of human emotion. Beyond strategies and techniques, AI integrated emotional wellness recognizes a fundamental truth. Authentic face-to-face human presence remains irreplaceable and essential in helping people who've been harmed. During a crisis, the human response to an overwhelming event when our coping and problem-solving abilities are overwhelmed, AI-integrated emotional wellness offers a powerful and timely framework. The integration of artificial intelligence with the irreplaceable need for authentic human presence. While there's a large body of literature focusing on crisis intervention, there's been little written about what you can do during a traumatic experience. This prompted me to create acute traumatic stress management, a traumatic stress response protocol designed to empower caregivers in addressing emergent psychological needs. When acute traumatic stress management is combined with AI-integrated emotional wellness, we have a contemporary, human-centered approach to helping people who've just been harmed. Chatbots and virtual therapists have demonstrated promise in helping users seeking practical information, guidance, and support. The efficacy of these systems rests on the platform's ability to emulate counselors and therapists. AI Integrated Emotional Wellness emphasizes that artificial intelligence can't replace mental health care, but rather serves as a bridge to it, never as a substitute for authentic human interaction. This distinction is essential for the ethical and responsible integration of artificial intelligence. Following are ten things you can do if you've just been harmed. One, prioritize immediate safety. Take immediate action to ensure your safety. If there's an ongoing threat of potential danger, move to a secure location as quickly as possible. If needed, contact the appropriate authorities or emergency services for assistance. Never delay calling emergency services when imminent danger exists. AI integrated emotional wellness can reinforce this step with clarity. Two, address acute medical needs. It's imperative to address acute medical needs promptly. Even if your physical injuries appear minor, it's essential to seek immediate medical attention to rule out any underlying issues. Moreover, documenting the incident through medical records can be critically important for future reference and potential legal proceedings. AI-integrated emotional wellness can remind us that our physical and emotional responses are interconnected, encouraging prompt medical intervention while reducing hesitation, minimization, or denial. Three, report what happened to the authorities. Report the incident to the appropriate authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken. Contact local law enforcement and file a formal complaint. Be sure to provide a comprehensive account of what transpired, supported by evidence, such as text messages, photographs, videos, audio recordings, and more. Preserve evidence. It's critical to preserve evidence linked to the incident. This may include medical records, mental health records, police reports, text messages, audio recordings, photographs, and more. Don't alter, delete, or compromise potential evidence. This information may serve as valuable support should you seek justice for the harm you've endured. AI integrated emotional wellness can provide step-by-step guidance to ensure that critical information is not lost during a traumatic experience. Document the event. I learned this one from my late cousin, a prominent judge. Immediately after an incident, it's important to document the event with as many details as possible. Write down everything you remember. Be as specific as possible, recounting any actions, words, or threats made by the perpetrator. Include dates, times, locations, and any witnesses if known. This documentation will be important when seeking to address the event with authorities or if you pursue legal guidance. AI integrated emotional wellness can help to organize your thoughts into coherent narratives and essential step in establishing a clear, contemporaneous record of events. 6. Turn to family and friends. The understanding and care of loved ones can be extremely valuable in providing emotional support and helping you navigate the challenges ahead. Remember that reaching out for help is a sign of strength. It takes courage to speak about what's happened openly and honestly. Keep in mind that you may not be thinking clearly during a highly stressful, traumatic experience. AI integrated emotional wellness emphasizes that beyond accessible information, strategies, and tools, authentic human connection is essential for healing. Seven, seek mental health support. Seeking professional mental health support is crucial when dealing with the long-lasting effects of abuse, harassment, discrimination, injustice, betrayal, and other traumatic events. Counselors, therapists, and support groups can provide the necessary guidance and assistance in processing your experience. By engaging in mental health support services, you can navigate complex emotions within a safe environment and regain a sense of control that your experience has taken away. AI Integrated Emotional Wellness emphasizes that artificial intelligence serves as an entry point, not an end point. Have the benefit of speaking with a mental health professional. PsychologyToday.com offers a powerful search engine to find mental health providers in your area. Eight, consult with a legal professional. Obtaining legal counsel from an attorney is essential for gaining valuable knowledge about your legal options and determining your case's best course of action. A skilled attorney can serve as a trusted advisor, offering guidance throughout legal proceedings and helping you navigate the complexities associated with doing so. AI integrated emotional wellness can help you approach this step with clarity rather than emotional reactivity, allowing for more effective and informed decision making. 9. Keep track of your expenses. Throughout your journey toward justice, it's important to maintain detailed records of any expenses incurred as a direct result of the incident. This includes medical bills, therapy costs, legal fees, lost wages, and other related expenses. Accurate documentation will support your claims for restitution or compensation, ensuring you're not left to bear the financial burden of harm caused by another. AI integrated emotional wellness can help you track and organize these details, reducing stress during an overwhelming experience. 10. Educate yourself. Knowledge is power. Take the time to educate yourself about the type of harm you've experienced. Familiarize yourself with the resources available for victims. And always remember this. Challenges don't define us. How we respond to them often does. While much has been written about helping people in the aftermath of a crisis, there's comparatively little information about what you can do during and in the wake of a traumatic experience. This is where AI integrated emotional wellness and acute traumatic stress management can be invaluable. Thank you for listening to this program from the National Center for Emotional Wellness.
