EMOTIONAL WELLNESS with Dr. Mark Lerner
Emotional Wellness with Dr. Mark Lerner is a micro-audio podcast series focused on what you need to know—rather than what’s nice to know—for listeners worldwide.
The National Center for Emotional Wellness defines emotional wellness as the awareness, understanding, and acceptance of our feelings—and the ability to effectively manage challenges and change. It also reflects our capacity to sublimate: to harness painful emotional energy from adversity and channel it into action—not merely to survive, but to thrive.
The mission of the Center is to advance emotional well-being by integrating technology, evidence-based strategies, and the irreplaceable power of authentic human presence.
Grounded in AI-Integrated Emotional Wellness (AIEW), this series incorporates accessible, evidence-based information with the irreplaceable power of genuine human presence. It is designed for individuals, leaders, and diverse organizations navigating our increasingly complex and rapidly evolving technological world.

An AI-Integrated Emotional Wellness™ Approach
Happiness isn’t a constant state of feeling good. Rather, it’s the ability to experience a sense of stability, meaning, purpose, and emotional balance—even in the presence of life’s challenges and change.
There's no universal formula for happiness. But I often find myself saying, "Do what you love, and you'll love what you do." Whether it's reading, walking, gardening, cooking, playing, watching a sport, exercising, or whatever else brings you joy.
AI-Integrated Emotional Wellness™ can be a useful part of the process. It can provide accessible, evidence-based information and support to facilitate happiness. But it’s not the answer in and of itself.
At the end of the day, happiness is shaped—and sustained—through the irreplaceable power of authentic human interaction.

The National Center for Emotional Wellness presents Emotional Wellness with Dr. Mark Lerner. How to Achieve Happiness, an AI Integrated Emotional Wellness Approach. We're living in a time of information overload, infused with daily doses of streaming conflict and adversity. At the same time, digital communication is increasingly replacing genuine face-to-face interaction. It's not just what happens to us anymore, it's what we're exposed to every day. Along with this rapid proliferation of technology is an alarming increase in mental health problems. Anxiety has become the most common mental illness in the United States, and depression is among the leading causes of illness and disability worldwide. At the National Center for Emotional Wellness, I hear from people regularly who are struggling with diverse challenges asking a simple question, how do I feel better? Or more directly, how can I achieve happiness? There's no single answer to that question, but there are patterns, things we know from both research and experience that can help. Happiness isn't a constant state of feeling good. Rather, it's the ability to experience a sense of stability, meaning, purpose, and emotional balance, even in the presence of life's challenges and change. Today, AI integrated emotional wellness, the ethical and responsible interface between the cognitive abilities of artificial intelligence and the depth, uniqueness, and complexity of human emotion, can provide accessible, evidence-based information and support in real time that simply wasn't possible before. For some people, artificial intelligence is becoming their new best friend. AI integrated emotional wellness recognizes that beyond information and support, we need the irreplaceable presence of people. As I've repeatedly written in other articles, and as Barbara Streisand sang to us in the 1964 Broadway musical Funny Girl, people who need people are the luckiest people in the world. Only human beings can provide true presence, the kind that's felt, not simulated, along with genuine understanding that comes from lived experience and emotional meaning that shape through shared human connection. While technology can provide accessible information and even comfort, it can't replicate the depth, authenticity, and relational impact of one human being truly being there for another. When we discuss emotional well-being and happiness, AI integrated emotional wellness can help in several areas. First, gratitude, appreciating what remains good, even in difficult moments. A simple prompt, what's one small thing right now that's okay, can interrupt negative patterns and gently shift perspective. Connection, feeling seen, heard, and supported. AI integrated emotional wellness might ask, who is one person you trust enough to check in with today? Technology can open the door, but only human interaction creates genuine connection. Being present, focusing on the moment rather than the past or the future. A prompt like, what are you noticing right now can help restore a sense of grounding, helping others. Even small acts can create purpose and connection. What's one small thing you could do for someone today? Can shift how we feel in a meaningful way, how we speak to ourselves, our internal dialogue shapes our emotional experience. Would you say this to someone you care about? Helps foster awareness and compassion. Be kind to yourself. Purpose. A sense of direction gives life structure and meaning. What's one thing that feels meaningful to focus on right now? For me, purpose and a deep sense of fulfillment comes from writing and speaking to you. There's no universal formula for happiness, but I often find myself saying, do what you love and you love what you do, whether it's reading, walking, gardening, cooking, playing or watching a sport, exercising, or whatever else brings you joy. AI integrated emotional wellness can be a useful part of the process. It can provide accessible, evidence-based information and support to facilitate happiness, but it's not the answer in and of itself. At the end of the day, happiness is shaped and sustained through the irreplaceable power of authentic human interaction.
