Why do women over 40 gain weight even when eating less?
Weight gain after 40 is caused by three simultaneous biological shifts: gut bacteria imbalance, declining estrogen that increases insulin resistance, and heightened cortisol sensitivity. These shifts interact with and amplify each other, making calorie restriction and most conventional diets ineffective or actively counterproductive. Addressing all three in the correct sequence is what allows lasting weight loss to happen.
What causes belly fat in perimenopause?
Belly fat during perimenopause is directly linked to insulin resistance triggered by declining estrogen levels. As estrogen drops, cells become less responsive to insulin, causing glucose to be stored as belly fat instead of being used for energy. This process is amplified by elevated cortisol and gut bacteria imbalance, both of which are common in women over 40.
Why doesn't intermittent fasting work for some women over 40?
Intermittent fasting can backfire for women over 40 when it is applied before the gut and metabolic foundation are ready to support it.
