Wise Food Choices with Valeria Lopez
Have you been eating less, exercising more, and still watching the scale creep up? If that sounds familiar, there is nothing wrong with you.
Iβm Valeria Lopez, Licensed Nutritionist and Certified Health Coach with 25 years of experience helping women over 40 lose weight, balance hormones, and feel like themselves again.
After working with thousands of women who had tried every diet, I kept seeing the same pattern.
The problem was never willpower. It was a "mismatch" between what their bodies were asking for, and what they were taught to do... basically a failed attempt to fix something that isnΒ΄t broken
On this podcast, I share science-backed, practical guidance on:
β Why weight loss after 40 requires a completely different approach.
β How your gut microbiome and hormones influence your weight, not just calories
β How to eat to support your hormones, balance blood sugar, and build metabolic flexibility
β The truth about intermittent fasting, carbs, and calorie counting for women in perimenopause and menopause
β Simple, real-food strategies you can implement without counting, weighing, or obsessing
New episodes every week for women who are done fighting their bodies and ready to work with them instead.
This is not about restriction or punishment. It is about finally understanding what your body actually needs and giving it exactly that.

Most of the weight loss advice available for women over 40 was built on science from the 1970s and 80s. Calorie counting. Eating less. Exercising more. Those frameworks were developed without accounting for gut bacteria, hormonal cycling, the way estrogen shapes metabolism, or how chronic stress interacts with fat storage in a woman's body.
The field has moved significantly since then. The public conversation just hasn't caught up. That gap is where most women are stuck.
In this episode, I'm going to walk you through five weight loss science trends that are changing what's possible for women over 40, and what each one means for your body right now.

β QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: Why don't most diets work for women over 40?
A: Most weight loss frameworks were built on research that didn't account for gut bacteria, hormonal cycling, or the way estrogen interacts with fat storage. Two women eating identical diets can have completely different outcomes based solely on their gut microbiome composition. A protocol designed for clinical trial averages rarely fits a 45-year-old body with decades of dietary history and active hormonal shifts.
Q: What is the estrobolome and why does it matter for weight loss after 40?
A: The estrobolome is a community of gut bacteria that controls how estrogen is metabolized and cleared from the body. When it is disrupted by chronic dieting, antibiotics, or chronic stress, estrogen dominance coexists with estrogen decline. Too much of the harmful forms, too little of the protective ones. That pattern drives weight gain, mood instability, and sleep disruption that hormone replacement alone cannot resolve.
Q: Do GLP-1 medications lead to weight regain after stopping?
A: Research now tracking long-term outcomes after GLP-1 discontinuation shows that without changes to gut health, hormonal balance, and metabolic function, the biological conditions that caused the original weight gain return. The medication suppresses appetite. It does not rebuild the underlying biology.
