"The Autonomic Nervous System, Stress, and Pain: Why Your Body May Still Be in Protection Mode."
Welcome to the human ways of making meditation design. I invite you to find a comfortable position. Maybe sitting or lying down. And allow your hands to rest comfortably. If it feels safe to do so, gently close your eyes. Take a slow, easy breath in, and a gentle breath out. There is nowhere you need to be right now. Nothing you need to fix. Nothing you need to accomplish. Just this moment. Allow your awareness to settle into your body. Notice the surface beneath you. Notice the support underneath you. Feel the chair, the bed, the floor holding you. You do not need to hold yourself up all alone. Take another slow breath in and release. As you continue breathing naturally, bring one hand to your heart and one hand to your abdomen. Feel the gentle warmth of your own touch. Allow yourself to receive that support. As you breathe, silently repeat, I am here. I am safe in this moment. I am supported, breathing in and breathing out. Imagine now that with each breath, a soft wave of calm begins to move through your body. Like gentle waves rolling on to a quiet shoreline, each wave carries a message. You are safe. You are supported. You can soften. You can let go. Allow that wave to move through your forehead, relaxing the muscles around your eyes, softening your jaw, relaxing all the muscles in your face, your neck, and your shoulders. Let your shoulders drop just a little, allowing the body to release what it no longer needs to carry right now. Take a slow breath in and a slow breath out. Imagine this wave of calm moving into your chest, around your heart, through your lungs, creating space, creating ease with every exhale, releasing tension, releasing effort, releasing the need to be on alert. Now allow this calming wave to move through your abdomen, your lower back, your hips, your pelvis, softening, relaxing, releasing. Inviting ease into every area that may have been holding stress or protection. Notice any sensations that arise. There is nothing to change. Simply observe with curiosity, with kindness. Allow your breath to remain slow and natural. Now imagine a warm, gentle light surrounding your entire body. A light of comfort, a light of healing, a light of safety, a light of protection. Whether you think of this as Reiki energy, divine light, nature's wisdom, or simply your own healing presence, allow yourself to receive it. This light surrounds you, supports you, nurtures you, and reminds your nervous system that in this moment you are safe. You are supported. You are held. Take a few moments here in silence. Now bring your awareness back to your breath. Notice the rise and fall of your chest. Notice the support beneath you. Notice the space around you. Take a deeper breath in and slowly release. As we prepare to close, silently repeat, my body is doing its best to protect me. My body is capable of healing. I can create moments of safety and calm. I carry that safety within me. Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. Take a slow breath in and a long, gentle breath out. And when you are ready, gently wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes. Come back around. Allow your eyes to open and take this feeling of calm and safety with you into the rest of your day. And feel free to come back to this meditation anytime you need to create that safety within. Thank you for sharing this time with me. And until next time, feel safe, feel calm, and be well,
