Root Chakra Reset

Your body might not be “overreacting” at all, it might be asking for safety. We start at the foundation with the root chakra, the energy center linked to security, stability, home, and feeling grounded in your body. We also talk about how early life experiences can shape that sense of support, and why it’s normal to feel resistance when you’re trying to show up, speak up, or build something new.
From there, we move into practical, accessible root chakra healing tools you can try right away. We explore simple grounding techniques like working with the color red, using the root chakra mantra “I am,” and repeating affirmations such as “I am safe” and “I am grounded” when anxiety starts to rise. We also share grounding foods and root vegetables, essential oils like sandalwood and frankincense, and crystals such as smoky quartz and hematite, all as optional supports for nervous system regulation and everyday wellness.
Then we settle in for a guided root chakra Reiki meditation with drumming, breathwork, and a redwood visualization to help you reconnect to the earth and come back to yourself. When you’re done, we invite you to journal, name what you’re grateful for, and notice what feels different in your body. If this supported you, subscribe, share the show and leave a review so more people can find it.

What The Root Chakra Governs
SPEAKER_00On today's episode, we are going to be focusing on the root chakra. So if you've listened to my first episode, you are aware that we are going to be discussing the seven main chakras over the next several episodes. And today we're going to focus and start with the base chakra, the foundational chakra, the root chakra. As a quick review on chakras, chakras are bundles of nerves and they gather together along the spine. And there's but there's over hundreds, over hundreds of bundles of nerves throughout the body. The ones that we talk about the most and are most familiar with are the seven main chakras. And these chakras can be affected by different life experiences that we may have. And so it can the these bundles of nerves think about it as like a spinning wheel, right? And when we have different things that affect our emotional system or it could be a some type of trauma or not, we can slow the flow of our chakras. And Reiki is one of the most effective ways to clear your chakras or energetic imbalances. Reiki, as I discussed in the last episode, is a Japanese technique for relaxation that promotes healing. So it promotes healing, it promotes the ability for you to slow down, to regulate your nervous system, to reset, and really tune in and feel what the body is trying to tell you. I believe that your body has the ability to heal itself. And I believe that Reiki can support this. Now, I'm not saying that to say, like, you know, I don't believe in modern medicine, because yes, I absolutely do. I believe in a combination of the things. And so yeah. So more about the root chakra. And I just want to name before I get into things that I am experiencing some allergies, perhaps, like some cinnamon issues. So excuse me if I'm I feel a little bit dry or if I'm coughing. I also want to name that we are talking about the the root chakra. And the root chakra is our ability to feel safe and secure. It's our foundational chakra. This is our first chakra that is developed in the womb. Okay, dare I say like at conception. So in the womb, this root chakra is developed through the age of seven. And so our ability to feel love, to feel safe, to feel stability, to feel secure, all that begins to affect us in the womb. There are scientifical studies that show that, that show that babies in the womb are affected by their mother's emotional state, by what she's doing, by anything that she has experienced. So something to think about. I say that to say as I think about myself and that I'm not feeling my best. And that we're talking about the root chakra. I want to be honest and name that I'm feeling a little bit of resistance today. And not even today, feeling resistance as I've been like trying to prepare to record and to drop the next episode. Just feeling resistance, like these negative thoughts in my head, and just resistance. Even though I got really great feedback on the first podcast, I I decided to do this podcast because I feel it's important to share my voice, to share the things and knowledge and wisdom that I know. I feel it's in important for us to to to share things with each other as in to support each other, right? That's how we can help each other to grow. And so yeah, so I just I just want to name that. So thank you. Thank you for holding space for that and and for hearing that. Thanks. So the root chakra. The root chakra, like I've mentioned repeatedly now, is the foundational chakra. It's the first of the chakras. It's the lowest of the chakras. It's found at the base of a spine, just below the tailbone. It's also the first of the chakras known as the lower chakras. The lower chakras are the first three chakras, those compromise of the root, the sacral, and the solar plexus. So the root chakra, it governs the foundation of our lives, core issues, basic needs, sense of security, our home, our family, how we feel in our body on this earth helps us to feel grounded. Right? Do we feel grounded? What are some things that we do to help ourselves feel grounded? And I will I will share some things with you. When our root chakra is imbalanced, we may feel anxious or panicky or restless. So if we are feeling those kinds of ways, we can use some of these tools that I'm going to share with you to help us to to ground back into our bodies, to ground back into our bodies. And I will always share with you accessible, simple techniques that that you are able to do anywhere to help to support you, if it, you know, if it feels good to and for you. Per usual, if it feels good for you and it feels supportive, great, use it. If it does not, that's great too. I am here to encourage you to tune into your body and to listen to the wisdom of your own body because you know exactly what to do. You know what is best for you. Your body knows what is best for you.
Quick Grounding Tools You Can Use
SPEAKER_00So when working with the root chakra, the color for the root chakra is red. So a very basic way to bring some grounding in, say you have a job interview or you're going on a first date. Anytime that maybe you're getting ready to do something that you're feeling anxious, and you just want a simple something quick and simple, you could put on the color red. You could put it on as a as your undergarment, you could put it on as socks, you could put a red bracelet on. So those are some of the ways that you could, very simple, very easy, accessible ways to bring in that root chakra energy is to just wear the color red. You could do a quick meditation, right? You could take a couple of deep breaths and just imagine surrounding yourself inside of a red bubble and just asking for some grounding, asking for the piece of the grounding element to come in and support you. The mantra or affirmation that is associated with the root chakra is I am. I love hanging affirmations on my bathroom mirror, writing affirmations on a sticky note, putting them on the bathroom mirror. I've seen people post them all around their house or in their bedroom. Some great affirmations to use with grounding and with the root chakra. I am safe. I am home. I am centered. I am grounded. I am joy. I am abundance. I am peace. I am love.
SPEAKER_01I am wealth.
SPEAKER_00Anything that you want to call in, anything that you want to feel, I am in my body. Anything you can use that with the I am mantra or the I am affirmation. And you can just repeat it. You can repeat it over and over to yourself. I am peace, I am peace, I am peace. I am love, I am love, I am love. Taking the moment to ground into your body before responding, you know, to get your center. Some foods that you can eat to help with grounding. Any red food, any red food you can think of, okay, and root vegetables that come from the ground. So I'm thinking of beets. It's a great grounding food. I'm thinking of potatoes. I love red potatoes. Love, love, love red potatoes, radishes. Did you know eggs were a grounding food? Eggs, onions. So you can eat these foods to help with grounding. Essential oils are great. I love using essential oils. People all may all are always complimenting me and telling me, oh, you smell so good. And I use essential oils to help support my body and to help me feel grounded. To yeah, just to help me to feel supported and loved and grounded. So some great essential oils for the root chakra are rosemary, rosewood, sandalwood, frankincent. You can use essential oils like in a diffuser, in your bedroom, in your office. My son had a diffuser in his car once, which was really cool. So you can get car diffusers, and you can use scents to help. Like I said, either in a diffuser or actually using it on your body. I love to use crystals as a source of support. I like to carry crystals on my body to help support me. Again, you do what feels good to and for you. Some great grounding stones are smoky quartz, hemantite, red tiger's eye, garnet, bloodstone. People like to use crystals for jewelry as bracelet malas or necklaces or earrings. So these are the stones that you would want to use if you were working with the element of ground grounding the element of the root chakra. And I encourage you this week to work with your root chakra, to do some of these things and see if you feel a difference, if you feel more grounded, if you feel more in your body. Another really easy accessible thing to do to get grounded is to go outside and put your feet in the grass, right? If you're in a major city or something, maybe that's not as easily accessible to you. But there are definitely patches of grass, right? Or dirt or ground where you can put your feet into the grass and just stand and really just take some deep breaths, breathe in and out, and ground yourself. Ground yourself. So I hope that these suggestions are supportive to you. I hope that there is something that is calling to you that you feel like you could use.
Elephants, Early Life, And Safety
SPEAKER_00There's also actually animals connected to each chakra. And the animal that is connected to the root chakra is the elephant. Because as I think of my own roots, my own life from birth to seven years old, my paternal grandmother played a large part in uh assisting to raise us. And she collected elephants. And I actually have an elephant tattoo on me. And you may know that female elephant elephants, when it when a mom is giving birth, or if if someone is wounded or injured, the female el elephants will make a circle around the injured or around the mother who is giving birth. And they will dig up and kick up the dirt to protect that elephant. And that relates to the security, right? The safety, the security to feel safe, to feel secure. What a beautiful, beautiful thing. As I shared remembering my grandmother and and the elephant and the role that she played in my life, I also want to name another very significant memory from that time in my life is I Am A Coda, which stands for child of deaf adults. And so my first language is American Sign Language. And I can remember from a very young age, probably like three years old, if I'm being honest, remembering me and my brother would be the family interpreters because we were the only people in our family that knew American Sign Language. So we were always interpoling interpreting, I was interpreting language before I even could really understand or comprehend it. And so just thinking of the ways that that impacted me, whether in positive or negative ways, and just also thinking of how supportive Reiki has been for me to to work through these things, which is why I am so happy to share it with you. And so with that, I think we're ready.
Setting Up For A Reiki Session
SPEAKER_00I think, I think we're ready. So if you if you're getting yourself set up, like you're receiving this Reiki, you're getting yourself comfy some somewhere, whether that be on your couch or in your bed, or perhaps you're outside laying in the grass, or you're at the ocean laying in the sand, or maybe you're driving your car. I do listen to Reiki meditations while driving the car. They do calm me. But and also, you know, I don't want you to get like in such a meditative state. So per usual, you know what's best for you. So do what's best for you. So I'll give you some time to gather yourself. I also encourage you to have a journal nearby. I always like to start my Reiki sessions with some journaling prompts. You can participate or not, you can complete the sentence, you can journal about it as little or less as you want. Whatever feels good to you and for you. So we're gonna go ahead and get started. It's gonna be some drumming because the drum is actually associated with the root chakra as well. The drum is an ancient, ancient sound, and the drum can also be compared to the heartbeat. And remember, this chakra is formed in the womb, and so the heartbeat, the drum. So I'll be playing some music for you. It will be some soft hang drumming, focusing on the root. Chakra. I'll share the link with you in the notes in the below. In case you want to, you know, play that at some time. Okay. So I'm gonna go ahead and start the music a little low. I'm gonna guide you into a meditation. And then I will stop talking. And we will be in this for about 11 minutes. Yeah, about eleven minutes. And then I'll bring you back. And then that'll be back. Okay.
Guided Root Chakra Reiki Meditation
SPEAKER_00Find yourself in a comfortable position, whatever that is for you, whether that is laying down or sitting up. And we're gonna ground a little bit through our breath. We're gonna inhale through the nose. Exhale through the mouth. Inhale through the nose. Exhale through the mouth. Do that as many times as you need. As you settle into your body. You want your exhales to extend longer than your inhales.
SPEAKER_01Imagine that you are laying against a tree. And it's a big, beautiful tree.
SPEAKER_00It's an old ancient tree. It's a red wood. And so you begin to imagine red all around you.
SPEAKER_01And you begin to think about the roots of this red wood. And how deep and long they go down into Sweet Mother Earth. And then you begin to connect to these roots.
SPEAKER_00You begin to imagine a root coming down from your spine, down out of your tailbone, down, down, down into Mama Earth, into the ground with these red woods.
SPEAKER_01I am secure. I am grounded. I am peace. I am love.
Journaling, Gratitude, And Coming Back
SPEAKER_01Bring some awareness into your body. Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
SPEAKER_00Take your time as you come back. If you're using a journal and you need to journal anything, I encourage you to go ahead and do so. I also encourage you to think of some things and name some things that you are grateful for. Practicing gratitude is another great grounding exercise. I am grateful for you. I am grateful that you found your way here to love always the podcast. I am grateful that you know love. Because it's what brought you here. Thank you, thank you so much for being here.
