SPEAKER_01Um semi-popular demand, I guess. Um so for all of you guys that followed us over from the gray man podcast, this new one is Gray on the Rocks. Jim was right when we ended the Gray Man, but I just was like, you know what, I'm done. I'm done podcasting. I just don't want to do it anymore.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we've kind of run out of steam, we've covered everything we ever could in this life. And two years later, approximately, boom, we have gray on the rocks. And I love the origin story. I'm sitting there minding my own business, and Mike sends me like the write-up and the the logo and our picture, and apparently we're doing this, so here we are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, here we are. It was me taking the lead uh on all of the things, which was weird.
SPEAKER_00Which well, you're retired now, so you have nothing but time, right?
SPEAKER_01Oh, obviously, I've got nothing else going on other than that.
SPEAKER_00So so let's yeah, let's let's do the ad nothing but that. So let's do the reset. Okay, so for those that are here, six seasons we had uh the gray man podcast, and that was world events and personal defense, and it it morphed over time. Uh we we got into more kind of the medical side because of your field. Uh, we spent several episodes talking about neither world events or personal defense, and some that were really deeply involved, and we had a format that we followed and kind of a theme that we stuck to. Uh, took a break, and where we're at now, the gray on the rocks. I love I love the idea of this. What what Mike came up with, just a couple gray beards that are at this point in life, and whether you are of the same uh gender, age, point in life, uh if it connects with you, welcome. And uh, we don't really have a specific theme that we're getting into with this one, just talking about life. That's that's what we heard from uh do we call them previous fans, continued fans, still fans? Both, yeah. The previous still fans, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I probably got easily a dozen messages repeatedly, you know.
SPEAKER_00A dozen, you told me it was thousands. What are we doing here?
SPEAKER_0112 people, you sons of bitches throw headphones over the computer. I can't do that because it'll take me another two days to boot this laptop.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, technology has been awesome. We should have recorded that. Man, that was crazy. Yeah, but but yeah, so you you 12 people better really appreciate this and get others to listen because uh every once in a while I'd probably get a dozen messages over a month asking if we had any plans.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um, where were the old episodes? We told you where they were. If you didn't download them, sorry.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, it really is, as a matter of fact.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh I really didn't want to do anything, but I'm I'm at I'm at a point now that I think it this is a great format, and we can talk about anything we want to. We can have any guest on we want to, we can talk for as long or as little as we want. If you guys have stuff that's on your mind still and you want to get our opinion on it, shoot it to us.
SPEAKER_00We uh so I I wanna let's I want to put a pin in that. So we we do want to talk about that, uh what we want to engage people with. But before we do that, I think because this is our premier episode, let's let's do the reset on who we are, right? Because you don't you don't need to go back and listen to the gray man podcast to be part of this community, and and we intend it to be different than it was anyway. Uh so because I brought it up, I'll start. So I'll give you a chance to get your thoughts together a little bit, Mike. Uh, I'm I'm uh from Bismarck, North Dakota now. I grew up in New Salem, North Dakota, which uh is home to the world's largest Holstein cow. And uh uh yeah, that's it, that's what we've got, and there's stories behind that too. But uh I've I've been mostly around North Dakota for a while, uh, about 15 years. I traveled all over the US for business and kind of expanded my uh view of the world that way. I've been in several different uh careers and and businesses. Uh that'll be a point that we'll be talking about soon on the show as well, where that stands. Uh mostly just service industry uh in computers and uh I mean for a while, hand tools, uh different things like that. Basically areas now that are directly impacted by AI and uh the world that's changing all around us. Uh, I'm uh a Christian, very involved with uh my church, and musically I've been I've been able to get back into music because of the church and uh really enjoy where I'm at with that. I've got uh my wife and I have four little dogs at home and uh two grown kids, three grandkids. Uh they're the grandkids are out on the east coast, um, but I get a chance to see them once or twice a year, which is fantastic. The the opportunities to do that. Love to travel, uh music, doing this, geeking out. I love to be behind the microphone. Uh, my my day job right now is uh working in kind of an IT industry and and internal IT support. And my one of my side hustles that I really enjoy is a radio show at a Christian station in Mandan, North Dakota, uh K N D R. And I get to do that every other weekend. And uh yeah, being behind the mic, that's been my thing. I love producing, I love creating. Uh, art is absolutely an outlet for me, and that's uh a big part of what we're here for. Uh, I also like to uh drink various whiskies, as does Mike, and we'll talk about that as what what that means in the show of started smoking more cigars. I'm I'm trying to uh broaden my debauchery a little bit uh and and focus elsewhere. So uh I think that's that's the big hits right now. Uh Mike, you've got you've got uh the reason I gave you some time is I mean, you have like 10 pages of a resume that you'd need to go through if you wanted to hit all just the high spots uh because of what you've done over the years. So uh give us give us the high highlights if you want to.
SPEAKER_01Okay, high highlights. I'm actually from the state of Michigan. I was uh born in Midland. Yep, if you can I we do, we hold up our hand and we can show you exactly where we're from. I joined the military at 17. I did 30 years with the Department of Defense between the Army and the Air Force. I was enlisted, an officer, and a civilian for the Department of Defense, refused to call it the Department of War.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not a gentleman, though. You were you were an officer and enlisted.
SPEAKER_01Never never a gentleman, never a gentleman. No one would accuse me of that. I ended my career the last 22 years of it. I was a special agent for um an organization in the Air Force that does the same thing that the NCIS does. I was a special agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigation, mainly focused on counterintelligence, counterterrorism, retired from active duty, moved to North Dakota again, not my first time here, but to my not North Dakota, and I was a civilian special agent um supporting the nuclear mission with counterintelligence and counterterrorism out here, and then I left that because they wanted to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Yep, um uh we own a gym up here, not that gym on the behind the mic, but uh a Brazilian jujitsu and fitness gym and a massage therapy school with multiple locations. I have three grown kids, all of them, I'm blessed to have all of them live in the same town. I have two grandsons, Odin and Augie. Odin's from my oldest daughter, Augie's from my son, who is my youngest, and uh they all live within a mile from my house, so we get to see them all the time. I'm a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, black belt and full contact karate, still do both, and uh I'm currently not retired because I own the gym, and I'm a paramedic for the local hospital service and a rural service here in a small town, and I'm shifting back into law enforcement, so yeah, so that's me in a nutshell.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so uh just for those keeping track, brains on that side, fart jokes on this side. That's basically what we did last time, and I think that'll probably continue. Uh uh couple couple of things that you can expect from the show. Maybe so. Let's let's kind of dive into that because you what were you you were talking about? Something we put a pin in. What are we going to take the pin out of? Uh having people on was oh, asking questions. Asking questions. Yeah. So here's here's how we'd like to start that off. We we had this was a a lot of this originated from was it last Friday? So for those that are watching and wondering, you know, when this is happening, it's the 18th of July, and it was uh just this past weekend. We spent one evening uh or one afternoon, we spent part of a day uh smoking a cigar and having uh whiskey, and Mike was was joining in, and we just had a conversation about what we wanted to do. And it the organic conversation ended with this let's it if you need advice, we're uh we are unsolicited advisors. So if you want some kind of advice, if you're looking for uh understanding something, you know, Mike has a background in uh what is your background with the education again? I always forget you know all the things, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I have um uh bachelor's degree in criminal justice, I have a master's degree in U.S. history, and another master's degree in international security studies that focuses on um European politics and economics.
SPEAKER_00There it is. So, from understanding what's happening geopolitically, that's the word I was trying to come up with when I put that question to you. Uh, we've both been leaders in various capacities family, community, business, military, you know, in Mike's end, uh family stuff. We don't have the answers, but uh we both have found over the years that just talking it out uh helps, and it's really easy to answer other people's issues, like we can fix those for you. Yeah, I don't want to make it easy on us. Yeah, make it easy on us. Uh, most of the folks I believe that are watching the show will know how to reach out to Mike or me. Uh, but you can always post onto the Facebook page. Uh you can always, you know, make a comment, whatever it is, and and we'll uh we'll we'll bring it up on the show when we can. Um, some other things that'll be happening on the show. We do plan, it's it's gray on the rocks. So we've got the gray, and we also have now it. I'm I'm gray meat this week. I didn't I didn't do rocks, yeah. I just uh taking it straight these years. What I'm taking it straight finally after all these years. So we we do plan to talk about whiskey, and we started off. This is the premier episode, so for that segment, uh we we decided to go with the wood burn, I'll bring it up here. The not the little one, it's the that that's I do have a normal size head, I don't have just a tiny head. Yeah, mine's reserved. Yeah, well, I just I just popped this one's cherry a little bit ago. Um here here's here's how the tasting thing is gonna go. Mike, you can give whatever rating and whatever notes you'd like. Mine is gonna be on a scale of can I taste to I have no idea what I just drank. Like that's gonna be mostly what how I rate things, and it there's a long story behind that, too. But we're not gonna use that today. That's that's for later. We're gonna have a discussion about that at some point, I think. That's a that's a teaser in the in the in the world of rock.
SPEAKER_01And Woodford Reserve is kind of our go-to. It is, that's that's a it's a great sipping whiskey.
SPEAKER_00It's your go-to. My go-to is actually uh makers mark. That's right. Yep, and it's so it's our go-to. It is our go-to. Like, if we just we want to have a whiskey, Woodford is always going to be great. Frankly, I find uh makers usually sweet, but if I but if I'm not particularly in a tasting kind of mood, it's usually one of the cheaper ones that I have in my library, if you will, on my bar. So that's uh that to put that on the rocks, it's fine. Maybe put some lemon in it because I I like sour. Um, but uh yeah, just as far as doing straight, yeah. Well, you know, you know, we have very different tastes. I mean, I am when it comes to whiskey, and especially in the world of scotch, I want peat. I want all, I want it to be charcoal-y, I want to chew it. Um, and and Mike is not that. You're much smoother, you're a smoother guy than I am.
SPEAKER_01I like the Manhattan of the Scotches, yeah, like your McCallens and Glenn Leavitt and things like that. And those are good, darker.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, those are good. I like the islay though. Like, if I if I have my choice of where to live so that I can have like a bottle whenever I want it, that would be I don't know if I'd want to live there, but uh, I'd sure want to visit whenever when I get independently wealthy and I have my own helicopter and jet system set up.
SPEAKER_01That would be like you're not gonna want a helicopter over the Atlantic, but well, so here's what I'm gonna have.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna have a jet to get to the coast. I'm gonna have one of those uh really nice ships where where people like they're staffed all the time. Oh yeah, uh like a full staff, and they're even if I'm not there, they're keeping the ship up and and keeping things ready. So when I show up from my plane and get the car ride there, uh, and then off of that that boat, it will be the helicopter that takes me into uh the the place to get my whiskey. I like your plan. Yeah, for now, I'm just gonna go up the road to Captain Jack's, like it's a couple blocks, much easier.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Yeah, I go to Cashwise Liquor and look at those like it's actually the same company.
SPEAKER_00The the company that owns Cashwise Liquor bought out Captain Jack's a local place in Bismarck. I'm um it's yeah, it's bigger uh selection, but it's the same. Like sales are generally the same, and um, each one has a little different bit of knowledge.
SPEAKER_01So plus I have the flavor um the whiskey of the month that I get. Yeah, that's been so far. I have not been disappointed. I'm I'm a big fan of that. And whenever I travel for like seminars or teaching or whatever, I always buy at least two bottles of whatever's local and bring it back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so nice.
SPEAKER_01I haven't gotten through like I went I went to Omaha, Nebraska last fall for one of my one of my karate students. He's a first-degree black belt and full contact karate. He was testing for his fifth degree black belt in Taekwondo and asked me to come down and be a guest black belt on his panel, which is to me is a is a pretty big deal. Um I don't ask a lot of people to come and be guest black belts on you know my black belt panels when I when I promote somebody. So of course I went down there and I I bought three bottles of whiskey while I was down there, and I've gone through one. The other two, not like steeple's pretty harsh. So I'm I'll get there eventually. It's like that stuff I brought back from Fredericksburg that's basically moon color moonshine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's I know like Mike has a spot in the bar at his house that I know he he's leaving for me because I could especially if my flavor is my my tasting is at a at a dip. Uh just give it to me, man. I can I can take it. Yep.
SPEAKER_01I can I've got several that I can hand to you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I get so drunk when I come to visit. I mean, that's it's not all on you, though. I make the choice.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes you just need that reset, shut down the batteries for a minute.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, sometimes what I do is none of my business. I get that.
SPEAKER_01Uh happens in mine out, stays in mine out.
SPEAKER_00So as far as the truth, uh, and the idea is that we'll we'll try to drink, and the idea is we're gonna drink the same drink each time, and we'll talk about you know, we'll compare the the the flavors and things. And and today I'm at a uh on a scale of zero to ten, ten being you know, not that it's the best, but I'm getting a lot of flavors out of it. I'm probably at a three or four. Oh, really? Yeah, well, allergies uh this time of year, yeah. Every time of year. I I'm gonna say that every time we get together, allergies this time of year. But it's more we've got some smoke that's come in from Canada, not a lot. Some folks have it a lot worse than we do right now. Yeah, it's a bill. I think no, he's on the other side. I think if Bill's on fire, then we get the smoke right away. Um, Michigan, your old stomping grounds. Michigan is really bad right now.
SPEAKER_01They said, yeah, my um my aunt who's coming out here at the end of this month, she she said that it it's really bad out there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they said like half a half a pack of cigarettes a day or something, is basically what they're smoking. Um, but uh or inhaling. Consuming. So I and I know I know what uh Woodford Reserve tastes like. I've had the double oak, I've had this is just the regular straight uh Kentucky straight, and it's it's got a little bit of like I can feel, I say three, three and a half, I can I can get a sense that there's some sweetness there, I get the heat, and this is like this feeling uh of drinking whiskies is what I like about it. That's the it's the powering of the glass. Yeah, it's it's the knowing that it's in and having that little bit of um, and this is another topic for a show that we can have. It's quieting the voices a little bit, uh, it's it's uh just relaxing as part of a a ritual, um, similar to to smoking a cigar. So that's that's kind of where I'm at with it. And uh, you know, I guess from your perspective, then Woodford, pretty straightforward, yeah?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the reason why I really like Woodford Reserve is that it's got a smooth, yeah, it's a smooth drink from start to finish. It starts out really well, light on the palate. You get some caramel and some butter. Um, and then it once it coats your tongue, you can kind of feel a little pepper on the back end, but it's it's never like I don't, you know, me, I don't drink rye, although I'm sure on this show we're gonna end up drinking a rye and we'll have to talk about it. Yeah, we're gonna need some counseling. Um it doesn't rise to that level, it's just smooth all the way through. And I can I can drink a Woodford Reserve while eating just about anything.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yep, that's another good point. Yes, the the being able to care things so much, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep, that's why actually I just had sushi in Woodford Reserve before I came down here.
SPEAKER_00All right, come pie. I uh sushi. Some pie?
SPEAKER_01Supplies, motherfucker. Uh all rise, motherfucker. Sorry.
SPEAKER_00I it like the best steak in the world with a uh uh a whiskey that's smooth but has a kick at the end is one of my favorite pairings. Like, I like that because I I want there to be a bite of steak and I want a nice smooth back end, and then I want to like that reset that you talked about, like bam, kicks me, and okay, now we're maybe take a piece of bread or potato or something, and now back to the steak, start that cycle over again. I I really like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know it's it's funny is I I don't drink bourbons or scotches when I have red meat. Like when I'm eating a steak, if I've grilled a steak, I usually drink a Chianti. Oh yeah, yeah, because it but it does the same thing for me. I want to enjoy the bourbon, yeah, you have some thought. Um speaking of ASMR. Um yeah, I I I actually like um uh a Chianti with a good steak, and I really like Woodford with um so you do cigars, I do my Mershan pipe. Yeah, um, but I I'll do a port with my Mershan pipe with tobacco.
SPEAKER_00I've I've got a port here. How long? Like, so I've got a small bottle of orange port, like orange orange port. It's like orange port, but it's also orange port. I don't know how many times I can say orange port and get away with it here, but it's our show you can say as much time as we want. I've had it for like 15 years. It's it's in a bottle that's tipped up this way. I just I never think of it because I've got too many good whiskeys, so I don't think that it'll ever have 15 years is the just decoration at this point. I just because I like you you talk about can and what's uh Chianti? Is that a is it a wine, right? Is it a wine, yep?
SPEAKER_01It's like a syrupy it's a heavier wine, yeah. Um, it's got a little dryness to it. Um, not as much as other red wines, darker red wines from Italy, yeah. But uh Chianti pairs well with a good juicy steak because it's a little dry, but it's so bold in its flavor. All right, that if you if if you're not a communist in eating a boot, which is a well done or a done steak, tell my wife you said that if you eat it properly at medium rare, there's a lot of juice and flavor there, so they pair really well. Letting my feelings out right away.
SPEAKER_00I pair really well with a medium rare steak, I can tell you that. Like, I I love it, like it hook me up.
SPEAKER_01And I I I actually prefer it closer to the rare side than I do the medium rare side. I I like a little rudder in the middle.
SPEAKER_00I won't, yeah, I won't, as long as it's cooked out. Like, give me the best, the best is a good char. Whatever else happens, it's fine, stays juicy. I'm good with that. I did a reverse shear a while back, I think we talked about that a little bit. Yeah, now that we're on the show. That was it was an interesting experience, and I I do recommend at least trying it to see if it's something you might like. Uh, where you cook it in the stove uh low and uh and yeah, and then just seal it in at the end. And I saw another tip I saw we're gonna talk about food on this show, by the way. Um, is I usually I've been using like coarse salt, because I use coarse salt with a uh I've got a grinder, and I've been using coarse salt in my cooking. And the suggestion was no, use use really fine. Find salt because you'll get a better char. It's an even surface. Yes, that's what I do. Yeah, I use it. I hadn't thought about that before. So you've probably told me it, but now somebody on TikTok told me. So now it's gotta be true.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so yeah. Speaking of TikTok, um, the other thing that I I forgot even mentioned that the other thing I do is I have a TikTok channel called Mike on Life.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yep, that's right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like less than one minute, really quick things.
SPEAKER_02Um Let's talk about the one you just did.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So, yeah, usually what I do is when I'm reading a book or I'm listening to a podcast or I'm listening to like a TED talk or something. If something stands out to me, I have a book that's leather bound with really old school paper and a pen, and it says thoughts I've had while drinking whiskey.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I'll take that quote and I'll put it in there. And when I make a video for TikTok, it's something that I think I need to work on, and I just put it out there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Now the last one that I did, actually it got quite a bit of feedback on it, positive feedback on it, which um I appreciated, but it's something that I know that I need to work on, and it is um unspoken expectations are um how did I put it?
SPEAKER_00Unspoken expectations are it you're you're uh you're essentially setting yourself up for yeah, resentment. Resentment, yeah. It's uh pre plant premeditated resentment. Yeah, pre unspoken expectations.
SPEAKER_01Are premeditated resentment. See, this is why I record them because I don't want to get much later. Yeah, unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments, and it's and I that's something that I've struggled with for a really long time.
SPEAKER_00I expect it because it's it comes down to common sense, right? Obviously, they understand this because it's common sense.
SPEAKER_01Literally, they know better, right? Which is one of the phrases that I hate the most these days. Yeah, is it is he or she should have known better. Are you sure?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01When I was a leader in the military, and this is why this one stuck with me, because I would hear it all the time, even when I was an enlisted supervisor, but specifically when I was an officer, well, this person should have known better. Well, unless I've clearly are had a conversation and clearly articulated the standard in a language in which that other person can understand it, and I get that north, north to south nod of the head and a verbal response that tells me they understand. Unless all of that happens, then they don't understand it. And I can't say they should have known better because they don't.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Especially people kids all the time.
SPEAKER_00Oh, God.
SPEAKER_01Kids should have known better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're just soft-headed, they don't know anything better.
SPEAKER_01I man, I teach kids like that's those are my biggest programs, even though I said never I would never teach children. Um, those are my biggest programs, and they're actually my favorite programs to teach. And I hate when a parent says they well, you know, he did this, but he should have known better. They shouldn't. Like our brain stops that it keeps developing until we're like 25. Yeah, we don't really know anything until our 30s, right?
SPEAKER_00You really don't. Even then, even then, we're we're in our mid-50s and we're still trying to get it figured out.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Yeah, I'm just fumble fucking my way through life right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that was that was the conversation we had because we we talked about it, you and I, uh, the concept before I saw the video out there. And and that was my first thought, too, was yeah, it even giving someone our expectations, unless we fully know that it's understood the way we intended it, still like I can I and this is the way I lead my life now, and I I I do pretty good at this, and I'm not trying to brag, it's just I'm I've had a lot of experience in fucking it up, so I feel like I'm doing pretty well at it now. Where uh if something goes wrong, I don't I can't automatically just assume the other person's at fault. Yeah, and I and and the growth for me has been, and and Mike, I know you've seen this over our 26 something years now. 26 years, yeah. That I used to just own it and it was a deflating thing for me, and now I can own it with confidence, knowing I'm I'm human and I'm still improving, you know, day by day. So that we've we've both had to grow in in different ways to uh to to work on that. Um your tick tocks, by the way, you you've you have you're on TikTok, right? But you're also on uh you're also on Instagram, right? Do you move over there? And what about the YouTube shorts? Do you do those too?
SPEAKER_01Uh so I I haven't done YouTube yet. I should. You've talked to me about that. I should have I really should make a Mic on Life YouTube page and just upload them to there. Well, wherever wherever you've got it, people can find I have it on my on those who are um friends of mine on Facebook because I don't keep my Facebook open for obvious reasons.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, most of them security-wise, although China owns all my shit anyway.
SPEAKER_00You're good, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, but I put it up on Facebook, I put it up on on Instagram and I put it up on TikTok. So it's and it's the same video every single time. What I like about Instagram and Facebook when I put it up there is sometimes I go over the real time for Facebook, and so people have to go if they want to know what I say at the end, they have to go to TikTok to listen to the end of it.
SPEAKER_00Huh. Is there is there is there's uh you know what? I'm not even gonna ask. I don't understand, I don't I don't understand social media, how it works. I use it for for various things. Like and one thing I didn't talk about is I have a a church podcast that I do every week, um video only, uh that I that I do with uh uh with my pastor, and we talk about like what happened this last week at the message, and we preview the next week things that are happening in the church, and and I use Facebook and YouTube for that. I just know where to click to put things up on there. Like I don't I don't know the ins and outs. Um I and again, you know, I put this on myself. When when your story comes up, Mike, when it when it comes up in TikTok, because I'm I do I don't use the Instagrams, I use the TikTok, it looks somehow interacts differently than other videos. Like it, I can't I can't just click a heart one out of five times I can, but other times it's just a video, like I have no option, and I've I've tried clicking through it. Um, so I I'm doing something, it's a setting I've got, it's not on you, but I I still see them. So even if you don't see my heart, uh, and I don't know if a person can track those, but it's like when I see them, watch them. Uh, unless it's boring, you know, sometimes you talk about shit I just don't care about using.
SPEAKER_01I do, and I can tell by I can tell by the views, actually.
SPEAKER_00You know what? I'm just I'm or not not on you, it might be on me. I'm looking for kitties right now. I need to see a cat like jump into a wall when it intended to not.
SPEAKER_01My algorithm is pretty much dog fails, like fails, dog fails.
SPEAKER_00And okay, what's the other one?
SPEAKER_01I was gonna I get a lot of diarrhea of the CEO and some other things.
SPEAKER_00I heard diarrhea, like methods specific niche, diarrhea of the CEO.
SPEAKER_01We'll get into the the guy who pooped in my ambience.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I'm sure we will. Uh oh geez, I just moved everything.
SPEAKER_01Um but yeah, so that's what that's what I get a lot of. But I do get to see who's watched the video if they're friends, if they've if they follow me. Yeah, I do get to see who liked the video even if they don't follow me and who should who reposted it and shared it. Oh, all right. And I can tell, and I can I can see the average watch length. And so there's some that just don't hit, yeah, but I still put them up because it's for me, right?
SPEAKER_00Um, and so do you see if so we're friends on the TikToks. Can you see how long I watch the videos? Because that'll impact whether I get bored with you quickly or not in the future.

SPEAKER_01All right, yeah, yes, you do, don't lie.
SPEAKER_00That's no, I have to concentrate.
SPEAKER_01So I yeah, when I started my TikTok channel, it was so erratic. Like I put up jujitsu videos and stuff, and and it was just all over the place. And then one day last year, I kind of had enough of society. We we were done with the gray man.
SPEAKER_00Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_01Um, and I was very, you know, me, I was very done with people. I'm not very people, yeah. I am for those of you who don't know, I'm a bit on the spectrum, like not a bit.
SPEAKER_00I that's funny. Well, you're a bit on a lot of spectrums, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's true. Um, I um so I am on the spectrum, so I don't I I don't like people a lot. Um, I like them a little in little little little bit sections. Yeah, but uh as a society as a whole, I was getting really disappointed. And I used to believe in the 80-20 rule precious rule, right? Like 20% of the people are causing 80% of the problems, and 80% of society is generally good and wants wants what's best for the whole of society. I don't believe that. Yeah, I I have a hard time believing that, and so I just kind of got done, especially in the climate that we have now. And um, we got a chance to go up to the Sundance, which we'll have to talk about sometime, and hopefully I can. I know um Bill would probably be willing to come on the podcast and kind of talk about not in detail, but kind of in in general about the power the the Sundance. Yeah, we got a chance to go to the Sundance, and it impacted me really quite a bit. And I came back, and my first thought was just you know what you you could solve a lot of the problems just by being a good human. And so the tagline at every one of at the end of every one of my videos is just go out and be a good human. And that has helped me change me interacting with people every day. And so if I can impact me, then that's enough. Yeah, hopefully it will be a cascading effect. And if it doesn't, I know that when I put my head on my pillow every single night, I do what I could to be a good human being.
SPEAKER_00So it's and it and it doesn't every like every day isn't a hundred percent, right? Like we're we're not we can't be perfect, we can't we can't hit the mark every time, but it's the awareness, it's the improvement. Um, I I had a chance to someone challenged me to uh uh meditate for 20 minutes on a specific passage, and I don't do that very often. I I spend quiet time, but I I I don't often purely meditate. And that was it was changing for me as well. That happened a couple months ago, and it was kind of that same thing. Number one, I can do it. Number two, I got some things out of it, and and those are important, and uh just being a being a good man. There was a time in my life where that's all I that's all I could aim for. Like every day, uh just if I know when I die that that I will have been a good man, like I'm I'm at a deficit to get back up to being a good man, like that's how I lived for a long time, and uh it's it's a tough place to be, but here we are. And those are those are some of the things that we can talk about, right? Like, how did we how did we get here? And if you're in a place that you want to get into a different place, how can we help you get there? Um, and and if if nobody interacts and if we just get here, one of the things that we've missed about the gray man podcast, and now we can have this. Sometimes we don't get a chance to talk unless we put it on our calendar. And it's uh it's been so for the last couple years, then it's been game time, it's been gaming for the most part. There were some times we'd have coffee by Zoom or whiskey by Zoom. Yeah, that's it's tough to schedule. Like when we get that downtime, we usually fill it with something. You've got things, I've got things. Um, so we we have to put it on the calendar, and now this is and our plan. So let's talk about the show plan. Um, weekly we want to put a show out, and with the previous show weekly, we wanted to put a show out, and we didn't. Oftentimes we'd go months, right? Where we do and it was just it was scheduling, it was life, um, and and you know, here we are. So if we together are um uh multi-personality, which by default we are, we're on a high right now because we're starting this and we're very excited, and it's on our calendars, and we're gonna do this every week. Next Saturday, it's on our calendar. The following Saturday, it's on the calendar. Uh, and um so we're we're here, we want to put this out every Saturday. We're gonna record. Um, we've got some stuff to do, the magic of putting it together, and then we'll put it out on the internet so so people can download it. Yeah. Um, I think I think video is really important in this one. I'm gonna I'm gonna put them out uh audio and video at the same time. Um, and everything is uh for right now what you pay for, right? It's uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01When you see the video, what you see behind me is not what will eventually be there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but uh, which is I mean, that's your that's your bar, that's your home bar right now.
SPEAKER_01The hall yeah, that's my the bar in my the basement of my house. Yeah, and frankly, I'll miss it.
SPEAKER_00I like the background, but you're you've got some other things in the works, and that's exciting, so uh stick around for that. Um but the other so the other side to that, um, here's what we need to do this time around with the gray man podcast. Uh it was it was more rigid in the individual theme, but very lax in the schedule. This time more rigid on the schedule, uh, and certainly lax on what we're talking about. We we leave that to our whim, frankly, or if you have something, um, and it it it's not we're not just saying that because we we want the the likes and all that garbage. I that's that's not important to me, and I know it isn't to you. I mean we're we're here to do this either way, but we really do want to be engaged if if we've been asked to do this, there's a reason for it, and we want that reason to be uh making the connections. Uh, and then and then this is the part where um we're not doing advertising. We're I would I I still would love it if Flaviar ever reaches out to us and says and says, uh, you know, here's some whiskey in turn for the exposure that we're able to offer, that'd be great. Uh, but what I enjoy about not having sponsors is we're not uh beholden to anybody, we don't have to follow their script or their party line or any of that garbage. SPEAKER_00Yep. So especially in retrospect.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I want to be able to share that it uh ensure that if there's anybody out there that I can help with that, that we do. Because some subjects I I gotta be real honest with you, if you are super, super, super ultra far left or super super super ultra far right, I'm not interested. SPEAKER_01I yeah, I did that. That took 24 hours for them to vote somebody else out. But I actually so you're working around that though.
SPEAKER_00We'll we'll have to talk about that at some point. You're working around how that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was crazy, man. And I found out while I wasn't even in the state. I was mayor for a day when I wasn't even in the state.
SPEAKER_00See, and that's why you can't be there to represent your uh what five fellow uh constituents, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I'm fired, and they voted somebody else in, but yeah, right now most of my time and money is is into that. So I am not out there today clearing the acre of land that I have that's been neglected for the last four decades because I want to make a podcast, so I should I should be out there.
SPEAKER_00So you're welcome because you've been spending a lot of time, it's been so good like Africa hot lately. Yesterday it was actually pretty nice, really.
SPEAKER_01I said this the other day to you and to two other people. When I was out there clearing the land yesterday, it was as hot as two dragons fucking in a brick oven. Yeah, it was insane.
SPEAKER_00And I I know I didn't respond to that because all that did for me was make me think of how big is that oven? Like how how do they get it hot? How do they make an oven big enough for both dragons, even the little dragons? How do they fit in there and get comfortable enough to make some sweet dragon love? And also, where are their genitals? Because I can imagine where they should be, but there's also dragons, they have huge scales, and like the scales cover everything. So, how do they have access?
SPEAKER_01It's like trying to imagine how a giraffe would wear pants.
SPEAKER_00It's so it's uh it's in the back, and then they have a dress shirt with short sleeves in the front, really tall thing, and a necktie, and then it goes up to their head all the time.
SPEAKER_01I figured I figured that's exactly how you would call it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's easy answer. Yeah, what else you got? One of my favorite parts about our previous cast, and and we're not gonna spend all the time talking about it, I promise, but just to kind of get it all out of the way, I loved uh the challenges that that I would have for you at times, and that you like we'd go back and forth with some of those. We're gonna find a way to incorporate something like that. Um, and I you know I've got some high-flying ideas for right now. Today we don't have anything other than figuring out how girass we're pants. Um but I would love to do something like that. Yeah, just what do they so what do they bake? What do they bake in that oven besides allowing dragons to have because you they don't just bait make a brick oven so that dragons can have relations in it, so that make so that oven is there for something else like huge pizza? Imagine how big that pizza would be giant bread? Uh maybe lots of pizzas and lots of breads.
SPEAKER_01Uh I don't I don't want to eat any of it. Yeah, but the only reason I thought about the dragons is because I'm currently we're currently watching House of Dragons again so that I can get it ready for the new season to come out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I have so what has there been? Two seasons already, right? And then now it's the third season. I think also Ter Gary there's three. No, there's there were three previous seasons.
SPEAKER_01All right, yeah, and this will be the fourth. Did you ever go through Ted Lasso right now? August 5th, the new season of Ted Lasso drops. August 5th.
SPEAKER_00All right, so yeah, I'll wait, I'll wait for that one to all come out and then I'll binge it when it's all done, probably.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm sorry, I mean I have to wait every week for another House of Dragons. Makes me so angry.
SPEAKER_00I I try not to do that anymore. Every once in a while I'll get sucked into it, but uh I'm I'm waiting. Um, did you ever watch the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? I didn't. Oh my god. Oh, so that's what you can do in between. I just need you to watch the opening scene for episode two, but you have to watch the first episode and then organically it and we'll talk about that here on the show. This is this will be a segment talking about the the Knight of Seven Kingdoms, season one. They've only got one season, episode two. The first like I think first three minutes is is the thing that we'll have to talk about. And this is way behind. Most people that are watching right now are either going, I don't care about the show, or I saw it, and my god, Mike, how have you not? Like, that's really where we're at right now.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's not I I have so so much time on my hands, I really should be watching it. You're right, you're right.
SPEAKER_00So it is better. That's it, what is it like six or eight episodes? It's short, and and that's the the only thing that's short in that in that show. Um, but it's funny to people. Somebody out there is laughing right now. Um, but that is a better story and a better written, like overarching story than 80% of everything else that I've seen in that universe. And and I know that's saying a lot, but and I'm gonna set them up pretty high. But it's such a well-developed show, and it fills in some gaps. I know some people don't like prequels. and all that stuff, but I they they really did a good job of filling in some gaps from from the rest of it. So do me watch that's the recommendation.
SPEAKER_01It'll probably be just me watching it, but that's fine. Um spare a couple minutes. It's yeah I'm on shift tomorrow, so maybe I'll have time.
SPEAKER_00Oh you can get through all of it. Yeah you're you're you're uh not ambulance chasing you're being chased by ambulance chasers tomorrow yeah so technically I am in the ambulance tomorrow and you might be chasing the medic yeah yeah medic go out with Sarge yeah what else what else we got anything what else did we miss anything about the show did we miss something we were supposed to talk about in this one I don't know we didn't really set it on an outline I just wanted to get this one out there because people have been anticipating an episode because I told them we were going to do it our first conversation was uh Mike was was talking about how we're gonna do this and he had everything written up already and he had all the ideas and I said yeah I like the idea let's uh let's kick it around for a while and and then as we started negotiating the timeline mine was yeah maybe sometime in the fall we could put something out Mike's like no no we're gonna do this within six days we're gonna have a show back yeah before the end of July is what I said yeah this is gotta have something out before the end of July well before the end of July and I am wholly unprepared because my TISM is preparedness 100% what I'm gonna say what I'm what I'm gonna do uh and I got as far as I can click record at this time and and here we are like that's that's as I am very ill prepared hence the whiskey well those who continue to listen to us over time can go back to this episode and go oh man I remember they sucked ass that first episode was terrible man if we can get better than this that would be pretty good I will tell you we had a good conversation but it's better than the first entire season three seasons of the gray man well the first season I the qu the equipment I have for my microphone wasn't actually recording me it was the microphone on my laptop and I'm like why is why is my sound so shitty sound so bad and then we had a thing where we we were going back and forth so and and and here's the thing like I'm producer like I produce the thing so it's my responsibility to make sure the technical stuff is working right and then there was this there was a later season when we couldn't figure out why you sounded like you were shouting into a tunnel and and we were going back and forth try this move this here I was taking pictures of my equipment sending it to Mike and then Mike would send me pictures of his equipment and and then we actually got to work on the sound issue um but eventually finally made it up there for a weekend and and before and this I remember it was really important before we start drinking let's take a look and it was and we didn't neither of us realized it so it wasn't on you and it was because your microphone was facing the wrong direction.
SPEAKER_01Yep and that's when we both learned that microphones had to face a specific direction um some do like because mine like right here I'm talking here but if I talk on this side uh you don't you won't hear it so and it's so hey surprise I just happened to be that way yeah yep I had no idea that I was supposed to be facing a certain direction so you could hear my voice especially my voice because it sounds so gravelly and it's hard to understand yeah I had to I had to crank you're a little bit softer than my pastor friend I had to crank you up a little bit there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah Sorbot's past friend he's loud he's got a voice so he's uh uh Carl is his name and he comes from a background of like like rock and roll lifestyle he was 80s uh rock band and they were popular like in North Dakota you would know the names of some of the bands that he was in like he's they were that popular and he actually spent some time in Florida at Disney World uh at one of the resorts he was part of the band that would play every night so he's got a lot of experience and then he found Jesus and now he plays in the worship team a lot but the his main thing is is preaching and it's uh it's a real guy that's one of the things I love about our church he's a he's a real guy that's got real experience that's awesome no no airs about being perfect so I'm in yeah that that would that would keep me away yep the the air of perfection would definitely be a yeah detractor for me for sure you know me well you we've got a connection because you've got you've had many uh um uh martial arts training groups that met in your garage right the the church that we meet in it's it's a garage that we meet in a garage for church that's that's what we are so I love that that small uh feel and the gym that I own now not that gym but the other gym that I own now you're just started in my garage yeah yeah so it was um two and then it was like six and then it turned into seven and then it was ten and the cap was twenty can't have twenty more than twenty people in my garage because that's a lot that's a lot of people in your garage mean you got a big garage but that's a lot of you're you're smashing into each other whether you want to yeah we were knocking tools off of the wall and people were baby rolling into my motorcycle into the in the winter because of course I'd bring my bike in um and then that's what spurred us to look for something new and and that's how we have what we have up here Spectrum Fitness.
SPEAKER_01So you bought a bar yeah I bought a bar and conferred converted it did all the demo ourselves converted it into a gym in the back half to I have 2100 square feet of max space now. So yeah good I was just there today during fair week in North Dakota oh yeah it is fair week I saw something about that yeah this fucking city all right here we go buckle in people oh my god no everybody jokes that North Dakota has two seasons we have winter and we have road construction yeah but this fucking city and and I understand getting behind on schedules and budgeting and that kind of stuff been in leadership before in my life but every fucking major thoroughfare in this city has one lane construction on it during the state fair there's one time per year that might not just needs to be available for people the rest of the year they don't have other things they used to have hoosfest which was a thing in the fall that didn't even that wasn't Norsk something or other and it's going to be at the municipal hall.
SPEAKER_00Yeah just a pilly thing but but that's I mean and it is the state fair and it's yeah still it's big headliners that come up here absolutely yeah and and for that not to be part of the plan here's the thing construction road construction uh house repairs all these things and I know you're in the middle of this right now because your your your cabin you've had trying to get people to do work yeah and it's it's become such a joke it's the uh it's the the money pit movie mindset two weeks it's gonna be two weeks it's always two weeks and I know people my my pastor buddy uh carl he's uh that's his day job is he does work like he's his company he does work like that and he talks about the frustration of having to wait for other people and it's it's become so acceptable that yeah of course it's gonna be late because it's this industry well f you it doesn't have to be set the expectation I think of road construction a lot and if I were running the government and by God don't ever let that happen but if I were running a project for the government and and I got bids for the the road work. So let's say a main thoroughfare is scheduled to be done two weeks before the state fair at my not part of that bid includes you lose 10% uh of of what you bid for every day that it's late dude I and I know weather sucks but you've got to plan for that in there and and that's the thing they always say well it's it's weather you can't affect that bullshit you and I I'm I'm trying not to curse as much we'll talk about that at some point but that's not true you can account so it rained for a week straight you can build longer time into it you can have people working 247 I was just gonna say that yes pay more pay more for people to work at night what on average right now we're at like 90 degrees during the day and it drops down to like 50 at night you can work at 50 like we have people well we have people in the state that work at 20 below outside yeah 30 below outside we like 50 degrees you can work outside fix the fucking roads yeah it's it's driving me like a steering wheel belt buckle it's driving me nuts it's uh there's okay that's that's a I'm not going to the state fair anyway but just trying to get around this town old men for class because they shut down Broadway the main thoroughfare in the town all right still still their fault for being late but that sucks yeah it's true I didn't punish them usually there's like a buy-in if you're late there's a buy in for burpees or push-ups or whatever you have to ask permission to get on the mats and that kind of stuff I would have i they still should they they should have that i'm not listening I'm not the one doing the burpees so in this case I absolutely believe they should have had to do it anyway because you know it's state fair weekend yeah it's true and typically our classes are low anyway during the state fair because everybody's at the state fair and this opening weekend but yeah um we were just closed for our fourth of July holiday week we were closed for two weeks a year Christmas and the fourth of July so I didn't want to shut down class again yeah for two days.
SPEAKER_01Yeah you might as well be there you got nothing else going on I've got enough traveling going scheduled this year for specifically for teaching which is kind of a new thing for me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah you've you've had some really good uh engagements you've and and we'll talk about those and because leadership is a big part of what we want to talk about. SPEAKER_00So yeah and I've I've got a a birthday party next uh Saturday night it's it's around my birthday time and then I share my birthday with somebody else she's turning 50 uh on the 27th so yeah we're gonna have a little party for her and you're turning 25 again yeah yeah I'm going backwards uh double double nickels I believe this year right yeah it's double nickels yeah yeah I can't be 55 damn man I keep forgetting that I'm just such a young babe at 53 so and it's funny because when we were younger you were a lot younger than me but I think a part of that was I had kids when I was like 12 so it not true it was I was like 19 so by the time we met you were starting a family and my kids were like teenagers already so it felt like we were very different in the points in our life and now um my my I've got a grandson that's graduating in a couple years and you've got baby grandsons right well man Odin is getting not Odin yeah you'd think he's a full grown man good lord he's getting there getting there too quick but yeah but we've yeah we're we're closer than we're closer than we think and we still have a a Vegas trip oh oh we still need to make a Vegas trip we could man you want to be on that Vegas trip uh it's one time gift of a couple grand probably yeah we we'll take you on our anniversary trip we have a big old celebration plan we've got t shirts for going to Vegas because we wanted to do it last year uh for our 25th friendiversary and it didn't get to happen yeah so we'd like to do it that might maybe be our trip this year we could fly allegiance yeah we've got we've got words to talk about our annual pilgrimage yeah uh in in an upcoming show as well so I think we've got a lot of things marked here uh some some things to talk about the future shows you guys please engage and uh here if you do this yeah so
