Valerie Day
Valerie was lucky to be raised in an arts-rich home that paved the way for a fantastic journey—from 80s Pop Hits with Nu Shooz to jazz, big-band, and orchestral performances.
In 1984, Valerie and her husband, John Smith, recorded a five-song EP as the group Nu Shooz. Their track “I Can’t Wait” caught fire on the radio, reached #3 on the pop charts in the U.S., and went top 10 in Europe and the U.K. . Their album, Poolside, was certified gold in 1986. They were nominated for a Grammy as Best New Artist in 1987.
Valerie’s 80s success was followed by work as a singer and session percussionist. For 20 years, she taught voice — working with students of all levels of singing experience with different dreams and goals.
Valerie currently resides in Bellingham, WA, where she continues her exploration of art, science, and psychology, creating educational resources for singers to help them live their own extraordinary vocal life.
