Episode 29: When I think of what has made humans successful, I think of people working together. In the trucking industry it is no secret that for many years it was predominately men working in this industry.

In recent years we have seen that to start to change and more women joining the industry in many capacities. As a father of a precocious 15 ½ year old girl this is good news. But is there more we can do to encourage more women to consider a career in the trucking and heavy-duty parts industry?

Today I would like to introduce Shelley Uvanile-Hesch, CEO of the Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada. Shelley has also been a professional driver for the last 30-years.

In this episode Shelley answers these questions and more:

Question 1: What made you decide to become a professional driver?

Question 2: What barriers did you face as you entered the trucking industry?

Question 3:What challenges do women in trucking face today?

Question 4: What will bring more women into the trucking industry? (Tell me more about the scholarship.)

Question 5:What can women drivers do to encourage others to join the industry?

Question 6: If there is one thing you want the listeners to take away from today’s conversation, what is that one thing?
