Speaker 1:I like to start each episode with prayer, so let's pray together. God, I lift up the person listening right now. You see their heart, their fears and the weight they're carrying. Remind them that they're not alone and that you have already placed strength, courage and purpose inside of them. Give them the boldness to stop waiting and start stepping. Break off the lies that say they're not enough. Replace passivity with power, fear with faith and hesitation with holy confidence. Help them take ownership, not in their strength but in yours. Raise them up to lead their life with clarity, courage and conviction. In your name we pray amen.
Speaker 1:Today we are diving into a conversation that could change the trajectory of your entire life. The title says it all no one's coming to save you, and that's not a bad thing. This isn't about shame. This is about awakening, about stepping into the full ownership of your life, your calling and your influence, because the truth is, you're never going to produce fruit by casting blame and making excuses. You're going to produce fruit by taking ownership and by taking action.
Speaker 1:Let's start by naming what so many people secretly believe that someone is coming to rescue us, that one day someone will swoop in with the answers, the opportunity and the breakthrough. We often think. A new relationship will solve our problems, a new job will fix our purpose, a mentor will finally unlock our potential. God will just supernaturally drop a dream in our lap without us having to dig. God will open that door while we still sit on the couch. God will do all the work, and all we have to do is pray and wait. But here's the truth that rescue fantasy is killing your progress and crippling your calling. A life of faith has always been a partnership God doing what only he can do. Well, you do everything you can do with everything he has already given you. This takes me to a concept I use a lot in leadership, training and development.
Speaker 1:Called locus of control, originally proposed by psychologist Julianne B Rotter, the concept of locus of control refers to the degree to which individuals believe they have power and influence over the outcomes in their lives. People with an internal locus of control believe that their decisions, actions and efforts directly shape their future. They take responsibility and feel empowered to influence their circumstances. In contrast, those with an external locus of control tend to believe that outside forces, fate, luck, other people or systems are primarily responsible for what happens to them. This mindset often leads to feelings of helplessness, passivity and blame shifting. Understanding your locus of control is critical because it shapes how you respond to challenges, setbacks and opportunities. Setbacks and opportunities. Leaders, high performers and those who live with purpose almost always operate from an internal locus of control, choosing to own their responses, control what they can and take decisive action even in the face of uncertainty. It's not about controlling everything. It's about taking full ownership of how you show up. It's not about controlling everything. It's about taking full ownership of how you show up. It's about letting go of what is out of your control and giving full focus and ownership to what is in your control.
Speaker 1:I want to dive into three biblical case studies to help us better understand what does it look like to walk by faith while taking full ownership of our life? At the same time, let's look at the story of the paralytic at the pool in John, chapter 5. A man, paralyzed for 38 years, lay beside a pool hoping that someone would put him in the water. When the angel stirred it up, jesus comes onto the scene and asks him this question do you want to be healed or do you want to get well? Why? Because even healing requires ownership. Even miracles require participation.
Speaker 1:The man had to make a decision to let go of his comfort and routine and step into a new reality that he had longed for but didn't believe would ever actually happen. Jesus commanded the man to get up and roll up his bed, because he wouldn't need that bed in this location anymore. When the man looked down at his withered legs and atrophied muscles, this made no sense at all. But when he looked up at Jesus, his entire perspective changed. He had to make the decision to wiggle his toes, move his legs, flex his stomach and push his hands into the ground. Jesus didn't do that for him. He had to do that for himself.
Speaker 1:There are some of you who have already written off what is possible and you've declared some things impossible. You are praying without belief because of your perspective. You need a perspective shift and you need to start telling yourself a different story. And I want to remind you that your story is not over yet. Let me break down the three main reasons why we wait, often expecting someone else to come in and save us. Number one fear of responsibility. Taking ownership means if it fails, it's on you, but if it succeeds, that's also on you.
Speaker 1:Number two low self-worth. You don't believe you're capable or worthy of a better life. Cognitive behavioral therapy shows that negative core beliefs often drive passive behaviors. Switching from low self-worth to God-worth is a game changer. It's the moment you stop measuring your value by your mistakes, titles, income or what other people think or say about you and you start anchoring your identity, worth and value in what God has already said about you, and I hope you hear my heart on this. If God wouldn't say it about you, you shouldn't be saying it about you. You were created on purpose, for a purpose, and your worth is already settled. You are completely accepted by God, already settled. You are completely accepted by God, extremely valuable, eternally loved and totally forgiven. God worth is unshakable because it's not based on performance. It's based on identity. When you embrace God's truth over your life, shame loses its grip, insecurity begins to fade and confidence rises, not in yourself alone, but in the one who made you and the one who saved you.
Speaker 1:Number three spiritual confusion. We confuse waiting on God with inaction. Faith is not passive. It's built on action. Even in seasons of waiting, waiting on God is never about standing still with folded arms. It's about trusting him deeply while continuing to move in obedience. Throughout scripture, we see that faith is always tied to movement. Noah built the ark, Abraham walked toward the promise, david ran to the battlefield. They didn't wait for perfect clarity. They acted on what God had already said. True faith believes God's word so deeply that it compels you to prepare, to show up, to speak, to build, even when the outcome isn't visible yet. Waiting on God doesn't mean doing nothing. It means doing the right things with full confidence that God is working behind the scenes. Full confidence that God is working behind the scenes. Faith without action is dead, but faith with action is unstoppable.
Speaker 1:Think about this story of Moses at the Red Sea in Exodus, chapter 14. The people cry out. Moses prays and God says this. Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to move forward. Sometimes we're praying for deliverance, but God is waiting for movement. You've been asking for a breakthrough, but heaven is waiting on you to take that next step. For many of you, it's not a lack of clarity, it's a lack of courage. Let me say that again. For many of you, it's not a lack of clarity, it's a lack of courage. Let me say that again. For many of you, it's not a lack of clarity, it's a lack of courage. You already know what needs to change. You already know what you need to do. You feel the pull. You've heard that whisper. Now it's time to move. Prayer is powerful, but faith without action is dead. Your situation doesn't need more delay. It needs bold, obedient action. Start walking and watch what God does when you stop waiting and start moving.
Speaker 1:And final story think about Gideon in Judges, chapter six. Gideon is hiding full of deep insecurity, but God calls him a mighty warrior, not because of how he felt, but because of what he was capable of. Ownership is seeing yourself the way God sees you and acting accordingly. It all starts in your mind. That's why Romans 12, verse 2, says be transformed by the renewing of your mind. When you change how you think about yourself, you change how you show up. Gideon saw himself through the lens of his circumstances weak, insignificant and unqualified. He was hiding in fear, believing the lie that his past and his position defined him. But when God showed up, he didn't speak to Gideon's fear. He spoke to his identity. Mighty warrior, god called him not because of what Gideon had done, but because of who God created him to be. God called out the greatness that was already inside of him. This moment reminds us that our circumstances don't define us. Let me say that again Our circumstances don't define us. God's word does, and when he speaks he calls us higher.
Speaker 1:Here are three shifts you can take toward ownership. Number one shift from waiting to creating. Stop waiting for perfect. Create some progress now by taking a step in the right direction. Stop waiting for perfect conditions and start creating with what's already in your hands. Too many people delay their calling because they're waiting for more money, more time or more clarity, but God often moves through what you already have. So look around your story, your skills, your connections, your ideas they're not random. They're not random, they're resources. Faith doesn't sit still, it builds. Start where you are, use what you have and trust that as you move, god will multiply. Don't wait for the door. Build the table.
Speaker 1:Number two shift from blame to responsibility. Blame feels good in the moment, but it gives your power away. Responsibility feels heavy at first, but it takes your power back At some point. You have to stop blaming your parents, your past, your boss, your ex or the circumstances that didn't go your way. Blame might feel justified, but it will never build your future. Let me say that again Blame might feel justified, but it will never build your future.
Speaker 1:Freedom begins where ownership starts. You can't control what happened to you, but you can control how you respond, grow and rise from it. As long as you keep pointing the finger, you will give away your power. But the moment you take full responsibility for your life, your mindset and your next step, that's when everything starts to change. No more excuses. It's time to own your story and lead your life and finally shift.
Speaker 1:Number three shift from fear to faith in action. Taking action is where transformation begins. You can pray, dream plan and hope begins. You can pray, dream plan and hope, but until you move, nothing changes. Action is the bridge between where you are and where God is calling you to be. It builds momentum, silences fear and turns faith into forward progress. Even small steps in the right direction carry great power when done consistently. You don't have to have it all figured out, you just need to move with what you know right now. When you take action, you tell your future. I'm coming for you. God honors movement, so don't just talk about it, don't just pray about it. Walk it out.
Speaker 1:Let me get real practical. If you are ready to take ownership and start reclaiming your life, start by identifying the area of your life where you are being passive right now. This is an area where you must take action. I want you to write down that area on a piece of paper. Research supports that when you write something down, it doubles the likelihood that you are going to address and deal with that particular item. Now that you have named an area of your life where you are being passive, an area that needs focus and action, I want you to own a single daily habit. Pick a battle. You can win something. Small but consistent Atomic Habits. The book by James Clear shows that shifts happen when you prove yourself that you can follow through. Your life will start to change when you start keeping the promises you make to yourself. Let me say that again your life will start to change when you start keeping the promises you make to yourself. Start with a single daily habit that builds a healthier you as you go throughout each day.
Speaker 1:I want you to change your self-talk to biblical self-talk. Proverbs 18.21 says this, and you already know this to be true. The tongue has the power of life and death. Biblical self-talk is powerful because it trains your mind to agree with God, not your fears, your feelings or your circumstances. The words you speak to yourself shape your identity, direction and decisions. When you align your inner dialogue with scripture, declaring truth like I am chosen, I am more than a conqueror. God is with me you silence the lies of the enemy and strengthen your spirit.
Speaker 1:It's not just positive thinking, it's truth-based living. What you speak over yourself matters, so make sure it matches what God has already spoken over. You Declare God's truth over your life. A declaration is a statement of fact that guides your life and your leadership forward. I am called, I am equipped, I am responsible, I am capable, I am resourced and I am moving forward. What happens when you take full ownership, confidence returns, momentum builds and clarity grows. You stop rehearsing worst case scenarios and you start writing new stories. God honors ownership and he blesses faith in action.
Speaker 1:No one is coming to save you, and that's not a curse. It's a call, a call to rise up, a call to remember who you are and whose you are. You've spent too long waiting for someone to rescue you, fix it for you or validate your next move. But the truth is God has already given you everything you need the strength, the wisdom, the courage. It's in you because he is in you. This is your moment to stop playing small, stop shrinking back and start leading your life with holy confidence. You are not powerless. Let me say that again you are not powerless. You are not forgotten. You are not stuck. This is your wake-up call to stop waiting and start walking. No one's coming to save you, because God already did. Now it's your turn to move.
