Stop Chasing Wellness
Why You Should Work With a Health Coach
Show Notes Transcript

Working with a trained health coach can be an invaluable support to you and your health.  We like to think of ourselves as 'The Guide on the Side".  Navigating the path of wellness often leads you to consulting the internet for answers that only lead down a multitude of rabbit holes and ultimately leave you more confused than when you started.  Doctors only have so much time to spend with you and often times a diagnosis can leave you with more questions than answers.  A health coach observes your bio individuality and can help you put the pieces together, challenge and motivate you and act as your accountability partner as you work toward better health.

Stop Chasing Wellness is an online wellness coaching company founded by two Holistic Health Coaches, Gina and Kristin. Hello, friends, and welcome to the Stop Chasing Wellness podcast.
If you're here listening to this podcast, we believe it's because you value your health
and you may be looking for answers to help you live your healthiest life in a more simplified way.
You may be dealing with your own health struggles or trying to help a spouse or child find a better way to deal with theirs.
Maybe you've just lost your way or you've gone down that confusing rabbit hole of conflicting information that is swirling all around you.
Don't worry, we've got you.
As certified holistic health coaches, Kristin and I, I'm Gina, focus our health coaching
practice on the belief that what we put on our plate is a direct reflection of what's
going on in our lives.
This ranges anywhere from the quality of your social life and personal relationships to
the level of your physical activity and overall health of your spirituality practice, your
career, and your finances and education.
The foods you put on your plate are just one piece of this wheel that we call the circle
of life.
Before we introduce our guest speaker, we invite you to check out our website at stopchasingwellness.com
where you can learn more about our wellness coaching programs that we have to offer, to purchase our book by the same name, Stop Chasing Wellness, and to learn a little bit more about
both Kristin and myself.
Our book is an overview of the pillars from which we teach, and we are so proud to share this with you and hope that you will find it to be the catalyst that you need to help
point you in the right direction with your health and wellness goals.

your program at a time that's convenient for you.
Coach Kristin and I are with you every step of the way to help guide you and educate you
and help you make this your very own personalized experience.
Our online wellness coaching programs are designed to teach you how and what you should
be feeding your body, as well as actionable steps to incorporate lifestyle changes that
support the health of your hormones and create vitality.
Basically, we teach you how to stop chasing wellness and to learn how to start creating
it.
We have a growing catalog of hormone specific coaching programs that we absolutely love
and we know you will love them too.
Well, hello, hello.
You're here today with health coach Gina and health coach Kristin.
And we want to talk about the benefits of working with a health coach.
Why would you want to work with a health coach like the two of us?
And I think it's no time like the present.
Everybody's in the beginning of the year usually talking about their new wellness goals for
the year and plans to get themselves in a healthier, happier state of being.
And we wanted to talk about the benefits of working with a health coach, right, Kristin?
I felt like it was a good idea because I think we've just we've grown our business a lot
last year and really in the last two years with our book.
And we spent the majority of the year last year back in school to really focus on hormone
health and educate more on that.
And through the process of that, we built and developed the these hormones specific
courses that we've launched, we've got eating for hormone health, manage blood sugar like
a boss, we just launched menopause goddess, yes, that we're going to be working on this
coming year, we're going to work on like a liver detox, we want to work on gut health,
thyroid health.
So we have these specific things that are available to help people.
But I think it's, there's, we have all these different pieces out there that we've we can
put together whether people just want to, you know, download and do independently use
our courses to go through and do it themselves at their own pace.
But there's also that other piece where I really feel like the magic falls into place
when people need that extra, like time and that, I mean, call it handholding, but it's
just that that extra time to focus one on one.
And the magic really happens there when they when you sit down and you have that that session
with your coach, and you can really just dig deeper into these things.
And for me, like I love having those light bulb moments with people where you're talking
to them, and you're just asking questions, it's conversational, and it's, you see the
light bulbs go off, and you know that it's like, there's, there's the secret sauce right
there.
Right.
So what usually happens, right?
Someone goes to their doctors, they have their physical, or they're not feeling well, they
go get some blood work, the doctor tells them, oh, you're in menopause, or oh, you have elevated
blood sugar, or your cholesterol is high, and here, here's a stack of papers, follow
this and go home, or prescription, or prescription, usually accompanies it to definitely.
And what happens then someone's overwhelmed, they're discouraged, they're disheartened,
they really don't know where to begin.
So where do you turn to Google?
Dr. Google, what happens there, WebMD yourself and to be go down all these rabbit holes.
And yeah, I mean, it's, it's, it can get very, very confusing.
And then people just get seem to get overwhelmed, or they self diagnose, right, they just say
decide that, like, the things that come up on the internet, when you're googling, right,
you're going to get your fad diets, or like the trending things that may or may not be
good or bad.
But it might not be the right thing for you in particular.
Right.
It may work, it may work, it may work for a period of time.
And then you reach this point of frustration where this isn't working, or you're watching,
my friend is doing this fad diet, and she lost all this weight or got his blood sugar
under control, right, or his cholesterol came down, because he took this pill, and it's
not working for me.
So people get frustrated, and then they abandon ship and try the next thing.
Right.
And that's that bio individuality that you hear Kristin and I talk about so much is we're
all unique beings, right?
What works for Kristin might not work for me, or what works for me may not work for
you.
We're all unique, and we have to work until we find the right thing that works for us.
And that's the key of having a coach by your side.
We're here with you, we listen to you, we sit down and help you peel back those layers
on what's going on and what's wrong and what's holding you back and how we can help you get
there.
And it's not just, I mean, there's so because there's so many pieces to that, right?
Like, were you looking on, when you look on the internet, and you find a fad diet, and
you can print off the parameters, and you can follow it, but they're not asking you
the emotional piece.
They don't, they're not taking into account, you know, your lifestyle factors, things that
are happening in your life, or things that led you to that point in the first place,
that we can fix, you know, the food, you can change the way you eat, but if you're not
fixing the things that got you there in the first place, like even when people are doing,
you know, like, like, like medicated weight loss, if you don't fix the issue that got
you there in the first place, when you stop taking the medication, it's, you know, likely
that that's that weight will come back, you have to address those, those underlying issues
and the things that got you there in the first place, make those changes, and that encouragement
and the education, right?
There's a lot of unpacking.
There's a lot of unpacking when you work with a coach, but really, the very first tool was
pretty much the very first tool that we started working with as health coaches is a tool that
we call the circle of life.
And it just breaks down all the areas of your life.
Are you happy with your relationship?
Are you happy with your home life with your work life is your career fulfilling you?
How is your sex life?
How's your spiritual practice?
There's so many different areas to that, that we just really want to focus and work on making
sure that they're all on point, as we work through the other areas as well.
This is where we can definitely make dietary recommendations, but we have to put all the
pieces together.
So we do that just, we call ourselves the guide on the side, I love that phrase, we
help people just like gain that motivation.
And we are kind of an accountability partner, right?
Like I personally need my relationship with Gina and other health coaches and other people
that we work with in conjunction with to stay motivated, to stay educated, to stay
on track, right?
It's what keeps me, like keeping my feet by the fire, keeps me motivated to keep my health
in the right place.
And even I can get off track, but, you know.
We all can, and we all have, right?
We came off the holidays, just like everybody else did.
We had the cookies around us, just like everybody else did.
And when you think about what we are, we're not personal trainers, we're not hardcore,
you can only eat this, that, or the third, right?
We're not in a box, we're not counselors, we're not therapists.
There's so many things that we're not, but what we are are human beings.
We fall off sometimes too, but we know how to get back on.
We know how if we're going to visit the cookies, we're going to eat the vegetables first, right?
Just simple little tweaks like that, that you can add in, that help keep you on track
or easier to get back on track if you do fall off.
And we are that accountability partner, and we do listen, we do hear you, we don't judge.
We've all been there.
And I think one thing I will point out too, with health coaches versus, I hear people
like I have, there's a nutritionist or a dietitian, you know, that I can see through wherever,
I know somebody or whatever, or through work or whatever.
Health coach, the role of a health coach is a bit different than a trained nutritionist
or dietitian in the sense that we do take the bio-individuality into account more so
than that.
We are not taught to count or measure or weigh.
We don't know how many ounces of this or that should I eat?
I don't have answers for that, but I feel like that is liberating in itself because
it helps us help the individual find what works for them.
And so that you can like, cause to tell you eat this many out, like if you have to take
a scale with you every time you eat, that is not sustainable.
It might be in the short term and we can do that stuff short term to help you reach
a goal, but overall to live your life beyond reaching your goal, you don't want to have
to worry about measuring or weighing or counting.
I think that's very liberating to do that.
And then we also work with the lifestyle aspects also.
So how are getting back to that circle of life, if you're not fulfilled in one or more
of those areas, are you stressed out?
Are you not sleeping at night?
Are you not breathing?
How many people don't take a full breath in, right?
That aren't even aware of their breathing patterns.
So just stopping and stepping back and just focusing on the breath for a little while
is really a great tool for people to just help calm the central nervous system, help
calm the body.
We have many tools that we use for lifestyle and helping people work on getting a better
quality night's sleep, getting less stress, taking into our bodies throughout the day,
and just working on looking at things a little bit differently than perhaps they had in the
past.
It's that objective third party.
Sometimes it's like, you instinctively know what you need to do, maybe you don't know
how to get there, right?
And that's our part right there is to help you get there.
And it's always easier for somebody else to see it, right?
Yeah, it's always easier.
And as health coaches, we're not diagnosing or prescribing things, we're just that guide
on the side.
We also, like Gina said, you go to your doctor, your doctor gives you a diagnosis.
We can be that accountability partner kind of on the side as you're dealing with your
doctor.
If you're working with a doctor that's, you know, because any doctor, even the best doctors
who can spend the most time with you have a limited amount of time that they can spend
with you.
So how often do you have a whole hour to sit down and talk to a doctor about your life,
your diet, your lifestyle, the issue is going on.
You just, yeah, this, we have that ability to do that and then give you the tools that
you need to be able to go back to your doctor and say, you know, I want to get off this
medication.
Here's what I'm going to do to get there.
Let's do some blood tests or do whatever I need to do along the way to reach those goals.
So you can, you can relay those goals to your doctor and work in conjunction with your doctor
to make those things happen.
So.
Right.
And we're here along your health journey, your wellness journey, and we can help you
identify and work on those goals that you want to change and meet and we're there.
That's what, that's the role of a health coach.
It's just for your overall health.
And I love it.
It's a rewarding thing to watch people have those light bulb moments and to see people
reach their goals and yeah, just, it's so rewarding.
I love it.
And it's something I'm sure I'll be doing for the rest of my life because it's just
embedded in me who I am and what I do and I can't help it.
Just what I do.
Love it.
Yes.
So hopefully that helps explain that a little bit because I do think that we get those questions.
Like, I think people know like you're a health coach, but I don't, I think they're like,
well, what do you do?
Yeah.
Hopefully that helped answer some questions and clarify.
That's what we do.
This is what we do.
We do.
Come on in.
Let's chat.
