Show Notes

This week's episode of In The Changing Room is somewhat different from usual.
For this interview, I visited RUN Hong Kong, a charity that supports and rehabilitates vulnerable refugees in Hong Kong through sports, education, and more. RUN allowed me to sit down and chat with Sydney (whose name has been changed) all about how her involvement with RUN, and specifically with hiking and running, helps her day to day.
RUN helps refugees to REBUILD the mental and physical strength of refugees, UNITE them as a community and with the local Hong Kong community,  and NURTURE participants through sport, food, friendship, and education. RUN helps refugees recover from past traumas in a warm, friendly, and safe environment, they support them to develop skills for a more hopeful future, and they promote equality and understanding amongst participants and with the local host population. They have a special focus on women, envisioning a future in which refugees are integrated with the local community and respected and treated as equals.
Their goal is to create a resilient and empowered refugee community that will overcome barriers, particularly in place for women, by participating in sports, education, and the workforce.

I am so grateful to RUN Hong Kong for allowing me to visit and to Syndey for agreeing to the interview. I encourage anyone reading this to please visit the website below and find out how you can get involved in RUN Hong Kong, be it through helping financially or with your time. They are entirely volunteer-run and rely on donations and volunteers' time to do the work that they do.

Thank you very much.
