Monica sits on the board of directors for Georgia Organics and The Biophilic Institute with past board seats on AIR Serenbe, artist residency program, Communications Chair of The Serenbe Institute, and co-founded and served as Vice Chair, Chattahoochee Hills Charter School, an innovative nature-based public school. She lives in Serenbe with her husband and two teenage boys.

Steve Nygren

Town founder and Managing Partner of Serenbe, the community leading the wellness real estate and Agrihood movements. Steve is Partner of Nygren Placemaking consulting and a serial hospitality entrepreneur. He founded the 24-restaurant group, Peasant Restaurants in the 1970’s, that he sold in 1994. 

He led the effort to create the Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance bringing together landowners, developers, and conservationists for a mutually agreed upon solution for balanced growth across 40,000 acres. This effort resulted in a historic Georgia land use plan adopted to preserve 70% of the acreage on the edge of Atlanta while providing 20% more housing than the traditional yield of suburban sprawl. Steve currently serves on multiple boards dealing with children, agriculture and environmental issues including The Ray C. Anderson Foundation, Children & Nature Network, Chattahoochee Now and The Biophilic Institute.

Dr. R. Alfred “Alfie” Vick is the Georgia Power Professor in Environmental Ethics at the University of Georgia and Director of the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program. A licensed landscape architect and LEED Fellow, he is principal at Solidago Design Solutions, with projects including the LEED Platinum Southface Energy Institute headquarters. His work focuses on green infrastructure, sustainable site design, landscape performance, native plant communities, and Cherokee ethnobotany. Born into a family of creatives in Tucson, Amanda’s design career was inspired by the beautiful artwork that filled her childhood. She fell in love with the South after a cross country move to Savannah to earn an Interior Design BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and she never looked back! For 15 years, Amanda worked at award winning interior design firms in Atlanta, developing innovative hospitality concepts and traveling the globe to ensure flawless implementation. She established Amanda Dashwood Interiors in 2016 and designed high end homes and small businesses for several years before co-founding Rook and Dash in 2022. Phill Tabb

Dr. Phillip Tabb is a Professor Emeritus of Architecture at Texas A&M University and a licensed architect renowned for sustainable urban design and biophilic architecture. He served as master plan architect for Serenbe, Georgia, and is a founding board member of the Biophilic Institute. Dr. Tabb earned a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, an M.Arch from the University of Colorado, and a Ph.D. from the Architectural Association in London. He has authored several books, including Serene Urbanism, Biophilic Urbanism, and Wellness Architecture and Urban Design, focusing on integrating nature into urban environments to enhance health, well-being, and sustainability.

Pierre Ferrari

Pierre Ferrari was a visionary leader dedicated to ending hunger and poverty while promoting environmental stewardship. Principal Patrick Muhammad

Patrick Muhammad is an educator, urban farmer, and community leader in Georgia. As principal of Chattahoochee Hills Charter School, he integrates hands-on agricultural education into the K–8 curriculum, teaching students about sustainability and stewardship. He is the founder of Your Faith Farms, a 31-acre homestead where he mentors Black families in sustainable farming, helping over 30 families purchase and develop farms. Through Acre Boyzz Farming, Patrick offers workshops and resources to inspire the next generation of farmers. His work has been featured in media outlets including K-LOVE and The Packer, highlighting his impact on urban agriculture and community development.

Sheri Salata

Sheri Salata is a celebrated author, speaker, and former media executive whose career spans the heights of television and a second act in transformational leadership. Born on October 20, 1959 in Georgia and raised near Chicago, she earned a BBA in Marketing from University of Iowa in 1980. In 1995, Sheri joined Harpo Studios in an entry-level promotions role. Over the next decade she steadily advanced, becoming Executive Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006 and helping to shape one of television’s most iconic programs. Following the end of the show in 2011, she served as Co-President of both Harpo Studios and the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), helping lead the brand’s evolution and growth.
Sheri’s journey didn’t stop with media success. She authored the memoir The Beautiful No: And Other Tales of Trial, Transcendence and Transformation, published in 2019, which explores her shift from outward achievement to inner alignment and purpose.

Stacy Simmonds is the founder and creative force behind Hamlin, a modern lifestyle shop in Serenbe’s Selborne neighborhood. With over 15 years’ experience in branding, retail, and marketing, she transformed a lifelong dream into a store filled with “necessary-ish” goods and immersive experiences.  The name Hamlin has personal meaning: it honors Hamlin Avenue in Chicago, where Stacy spent part of her childhood. Before moving to Serenbe, Stacy and her husband lived in multiple cities across the U.S.; everywhere she went, she collected creative and retail inspiration. Her store is known for warm, playful touches—like the Adult Big Wheel Race—and for inspiring visitors and residents to “feel like kids again.” 

In Serenbe, she brings her vision of creative retail that blends personal stories, community, and thoughtful curation.

Steve Hurwitz

Steve Hurwitz is a longtime Serenbe resident, marketing and advertising veteran, and consultant in sustainable infrastructure and community systems. He’s played a pivotal role in Serenbe’s development—helping guide planning efforts, coordinating with developers, and working on geothermal HVAC and infrastructure projects in Serenbe and other communities. 

Steve is also part of Serenbe’s creative life: he joined the “Neuroplasticity” community band—formed for older residents learning music together—and contributes to the cultural rhythm of the neighborhood. 

A former New Yorker recruited by Coca-Cola to Atlanta, Steve’s journey weaves together marketing, sustainability, community, and art—making him a unique and integral voice in the Serenbe Stories narrative.

Steven W. Peck is the founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the nonprofit industry association leading the development of green roofs and living walls across North America.
