On the first segment of Peeling Back the Layers, Lindsay chats with Catherine Adcock, Chapman University senior and the newest Miss City of Orange! Catherine was born and raised in Orange, so when it came time for her to choose a college, she told us she couldn’t imagine herself leaving!
“I am an Orange resident for life,” she shared.
When November rolled around, she came across the opportunity to run for Miss City of Orange. At first, she could not see herself competing in the competition but decided to go to the orientation to feel it out. After some convincing from her mother and Connie Benson, the Executive Director of Miss City of Orange, she decided to give it a try. Throughout the Miss City of Orange competition, each girl is expected to advocate for a cause they are passionate about. Catherine created “Beyond Beautiful,” a campaign that promotes body positivity. Her passion is to educate middle and high school students about the impact of negative body image, how that plays into mental health and overall promoting self acceptance. Due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, Catherine has optimized her campaign to be virtual for now and will implement the in-person curriculum once school is back in session.
In this episode, Lindsay and Catherine discuss body image, body positivity, social media, focusing on what’s on the inside, and of course Miss City of Orange.
