This week is extra juicy, especially for our Chapman U listeners! On this segment of What’s Juicy, Kelly and Chapman alumna Andrea are joined by Chapman University President Daniele C. Struppa, Ph.D. Inaugurated on September 1, 2016, Daniele Struppa is Chapman University’s thirteenth president. Previously, Dr. Struppa held the position of Chancellor at Chapman University for nine years. In this episode, Kelly, Andrea and President Struppa deep dive into his role in preparing Chapman University for the return of students amid the coronavirus pandemic. During this time, Daniele has been challenged with questions regarding graduation for the class of 2020, how the pandemic will shape the future of education and on-campus living at Chapman, and what is happening to classes in the fall. We cannot imagine these are easy questions to answer, and President Struppa addresses each question with care and grace, as always.
In an effort to bring students back to Chapman in the safest way, while still allowing first-year students to have an exciting welcome to college, Chapman is initiating a program called CU Safely Back, with 14 task forces. Of these, a primary task force is Residence Life and First Year Experience, who plan to set aside portions of the residence halls for students who may need to self-isolate throughout the year. Other departments discussed on the episode include orientation, sporting events, College of Performing Arts, and more! Daniele told us Chapman is preparing faculty and staff for all possible situations to ensure the safest and most enjoyable fall semester.
