Martin Luther's Evening Prayer

Revelation 7:9-17 Tribulation

Dr. Richard Zeile

While some have taken the "tribulation" in Revelation to singular, pertaining to the generation that will witness the Parousia (Christ's Return in Glory) and speak of THE Great Tribulation, Revelation 7 speaks of "These are those who have come out of great tribulation..." As Dr. Zeile explains, every generation of Christians experiences tribulation, and should expect this. This further means that we see ourselves as those who have "made our robes white in the blood of the Lamb."    In our death we will pass immediately to judgment meaning that the Bible's message of Christ coming for us in our life-time is true for every generation. This message is accompanied by Confession and Absolution and the celebration of Holy Communion, and the classic hymn of praise, "Praise the Almighty."
