Dave continued our series on Colossians.

The gospel is changing lives and bearing fruit.

Colossians 1 v 6-8“This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace. You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ’s faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf. He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you.”

We are deliberately speaking through Colossians to encourage us all in our discipleship. This talk is not for a few but for us all, without exception.

I have the privilege of leading the Alpha courses and I can tell you the changes the gospel makes to peoples lives is precious, moving and eternal.

Although I’m talking from Colossians I felt the Holy Spirit lead me to Luke 4 14-19

“Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. ””

Let’s look at the Isaiah 61.

Jesus was baptised and went into the desert.

When he come back FULL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT he went to the temple and read the scripture very deliberately.

People often ask what is my calling?

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. ”

When you feel inadequate remember the spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon you.

I’m gifted because of Isaiah 61.

When the enemy says you can’t.... remember Isaiah 61

This is what you are born for.

Time for church to stand up. Time to make a difference.

Various gifts. Mercy, hospitality etc

Declare Isaiah 61 over everyone.
