Announcer :

[T.V tuning, static] News updates [intro music]

News Anchor :

Violent protests erupted in South Philadelphia this morning, just 12 hours after robotics company Semper Sanctions announced an expansion to the Equal Opportunity Program. Ambassador Karen Whitman here to give us the story.

Karen Whitman :

These protesters have no ground to stand on. We are seeing now what we've been seeing since before the re-election of 2020. These people are nothing but the result of those not getting their way and complaining about the hard work these fine Americans are doing to contribute to this great nation. Here at Semper Sanctions we value intelligence and the spread of knowledge above all else. To extinguish the people's potential is not in America's best interest, plain and simple. We have come a long way from the days when our chips simply added to one's knowledge, we can now make anyone a professional. Semper Sanctions is proud to have worked hand in hand with Congress to take unemployment to less than 1%. We are fulfilling the wants and needs of our customers. We will be continuing with the launch despite the protests.

News Anchor :

I have to agree with you Karen. These so called activists have been known to vandalize Semper Sanctions facilities as well as hacking in the personal systems causing substantial damage to multiple cities. Semper has taken many precautions of course to limit these attacks. After this short commercial break, we'll be joining James Harding down in Center City where the President's Day Parade will begin shortly [T.V static]

Psyl0 :

[typing in background] (scoff) such bullshit.

FritX :

Why do you watch that shit Psy? It always puts you in a bad mood.

Psyl0 :

I'm not in a bad mood.

FritX :

Okay, fine. It puts me in a bad mood.

Psyl0 :

I just like to know what people are saying...what the masses are pushing for.

FritX :

Don't we know people who write about this crap in a less abrasive way?

Psyl0 :

Goliath hasn't mentioned anything about it actually.

FritX :

Well must not be anything important then

Psyl0 :

Maybe, just seems weird. Usually when main media makes these kind of claims they try to clear the air but they've been offline for months.

FritX :

It's not like this is anything new.

Psyl0 :

Yeah, I guess not...

FritX :

[stops typing] You okay?

Psyl0 :

Yeah, it's just hard to tell what's going on these days. I feel like everyone we knows but offline for months now and Sempers got Feds running around more than they used to-

FritX :

Hey, Psy if something's going on, we'll know about it. Okay?

Psyl0 :

(sigh) I just feel like we're missing something in our little bubble.

FritX :

Well, I prefer our bubble.

Psyl0 :

Oh, I do to just takes some getting used to.

FritX :

[pause] Do you want another coffee?

Psyl0 :

Yes, please [FritX stands, walks across the room]

FritX :

So what's the hot news today anyway?

Psyl0 :

[sarcastically] Protests in the south.

FritX :

What protests?

Psyl0 :

I know, it's hard to believe anyone's buying it.

FritX :

There haven't been protests, much less violent protests, in the south for years and they fucking know it. The crowd around here is too smart for that.

Psyl0 :

Yeah, but what I want to know is why they want people to think there are protests.

FritX :

People will believe what they want to believe. Whatever makes a little world make more sense. If that's protests in the south are a little chip that can make all your problems disappear. Doesn't help that these jackasses are making it easier and easier to be in denial these days.

Psyl0 :

feels impossible to know what's actually going on [FritX pours coffee]

FritX :

Ironic, isn't it? We have all this information, all these resources at our fingertips. And more than ever, people want to keep their heads down. [FritX walks back to Psyl0]

Psyl0 :

Takes ignorance is bliss to a whole new level, doesn't it? Thanks. [FritX hands Psyl0 a mug] I wonder what it would be like if we didn't have to do all this anymore.

FritX :

What do you mean?

Psyl0 :

Well, being as unplugged as we've managed to be all this time, we have to spend so much of our time surviving...

FritX :

Well, it's better than the alternative.

Psyl0 :

Yeah, I don't mean...I just mean sometimes I think about what we'd be doing if we didn't have to spend so much of our time not being arrested.

FritX :

Well, you'd probably make more sculptures, right? Like you used to.

Psyl0 :

Maybe. What about you?

FritX :

Oh, I'd probably still be doing what I'm doing now.

Psyl0 :

Really?

FritX :

Yeah, I.T works for me. I mean, what else would I do?

Psyl0 :

I don't know. [pause] I'm sorry. I do. didn't mean for this to get so heavy.

FritX :

It's okay. I was actually just thinking about my parents the other day.

Psyl0 :

Oh, did they reach out?

FritX :

[chuckle] Not till I get an update, and we both know that's not happening anytime soon.

Psyl0 :

Do you miss them?

FritX :

Sometimes? Not really. What about you?

Psyl0 :

Well, I don't really have anything to miss. So,

FritX :

right. Sorry.

Psyl0 :

It's okay. It doesn't bother me.

FritX :

So you want to go do something today?

Psyl0 :

Do you have work?

FritX :

Well, that's not what I meant.

Psyl0 :

I know, but I'm okay. Really.

FritX :

Well, if we want it, we got it. I should be doing something right now, anyway. [FritX begins typing] Let's see here. If we want to go out there are a few security breaches around that I could check. A couple security system updates in the block over though I'd probably opt to do something remote at least until dark, if that's okay.

Psyl0 :

What about that one from A-list?

FritX :

I don't see one from A-list...oh

Psyl0 :

what does he need? He doesn't usually ask you for work, does he?

FritX :

Not usually. I mean, I do some routine security stuff on this place. He probably just needs an update on his ad blockers or something, though. I just updated him a few weeks ago. The hell is that guy up to these days?

Psyl0 :

I haven't seen him in his usual spots lately. Maybe something's up.

FritX :

When did you go to the bar?

Psyl0 :

I haven't really. I've gone a few walks down where I used to crash. See everyone's doing.

FritX :

You're watching out though, right? It's-

Psyl0 :

-dangerous. I know. I lay low. Feds don't really hang around here anyway.

FritX :

When was the last time you saw him?

Psyl0 :

Three weeks ago?

FritX :

A-listnot at a bar for three weeks?

Psyl0 :

Not from what I've seen.

FritX :

Well, that's definitely a little weird. He wants me to look at this email.

Psyl0 :

I got that message to

FritX :

what?

Psyl0 :

That one without the subject or sender? I got one like it this morning.

FritX :

Why didn't you show it to me?

Psyl0 :

I didn't think it was anything just a glitch or something.

FritX :

Can I look at it?

Psyl0 :

Yeah. there see?

FritX :

You haven't opened it....

Psyl0 :

I didn't think it was anything.

FritX :

Well, let's take a look Shall we? Probably just some new ads formula or some shit we need to firewall Sempers been getting tricky with their data mining bullshit. We might need to do a few updates on this place. [a timer starts] What the...Is it counting down?

Psyl0 :

I don't like this FritX.

FritX :

Don't worry. I've got virus blocker Semper would be jealous of. It's probably just a joke or something.

Psyl0 :

FritX I think you should close it.

FritX :

Don't worry-

Psyl0 :

Close it...please?

FritX :

Okay, okay. I'm closing it....I-I can't

Psyl0 :

I think we should go. I don't like this

FritX :

Calm down Psy. It's fine, I promise. [distant sound]

Psyl0 :

What was that? [explosion]

FritX :

[fire alarm is beeping in the background, rubble falls, flames crackling] Psyl0? (cough) Psy-[FritX is still, Sirens approach in the back ground gertting louder before Fading out]
