Season 13 - Episode 34: Psychosomatics of Epilepsy

• Evette Rose • Season 13 • Episode 34

Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by recurrent seizures. While the exact cause of epilepsy is not known, some studies suggest that psychosomatic factors may play a role in the development and severity of seizures.

The following are some ways that psychosomatic factors may contribute to epilepsy:
💥Stress: Stress, anxiety, and emotional distress can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy, particularly if they have a history of psychological trauma.
💥Sleep disturbances: Lack of sleep, insomnia, and other sleep disturbances can trigger seizures in some people with epilepsy.
💥Depression: Depression can increase the risk of seizures in people with epilepsy, particularly if they have a history of depression and anxiety.
💥Substance abuse: Substance abuse, particularly alcohol and drug abuse, can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy and worsen the severity of seizures.
