Hi, everyone. It's louder here. Welcome to a mental health matters podcast today will be talking about building resilience and we are in such tough times that I feel talking about Brazilians will be good and will be. You saw Teoh. Quite a number of people. So what is resilience in itself? Resilience is simply the ability t hope with difficulties, setbacks or challengers and an individual come but said to be resilient when they can, um, Coke they can have. They can thrive during, um, challenges on and setbacks. So you can't say person is resilient when they have capability. They have the mental processes that can promote that what goes on inside, what they have within themselves to be able, Teoh overcome negative aspect or negative situations that are on going so they're different. Parts of Brazilians are different in a different things to talk about with Brazilians. So it's easy, really to think life is a is a simple road map that we can all just embark on and things will be straight. You know, you just go from Journey A to Z. But in actual fact, in in reality, that isnot on, you know, always happens there will be twists in terms. There will be challenges of a traumatic event on day. All those would have different impacts on us. There will be some that will be life all tree. There will be some no have minimal impacts. And you know, we can easily step over there and continue with our day. Or we can easily step over that and continue. You know, with that in the aspect of life, maybe a career or a marriage or relationship. But there are those that would happen now have life over trade impact. And also the key thing to note is that its effects different people differently. So somebody called have coal face the same circumstance or event on be able to cope. Five. Where somebody else will have the same event, you know, and get knocked down completely. So what do we do? What do we look at in terms of resilience? Wash? Should we think about in terms of resilience? No, As I said before, resilience involved bombs. Him Resilience involves knowing and thinking that there will be rough river waters. There will be trist in terms of the challenges. There will be difficulties along the way. Um, it's in looking for ways to adapt on and try to build up that inner power toe help through those circumstances. So what? What do we look for? Or have the things that help to build up our resilience? So the first thing really is perspective, So it's back innate ability to see pins. All look offends differently now, As I said, one individual will have an event happen. Another individual have the same event. Happened book would two different outcomes. There's a story off two brothers who had He's the same father, obviously as being brothers who was ho had a or alcohol substance missions problem on. And one brother turned out to be successful, while the other brother turned out differently. When both brothers were interviewed, the first brother said, Well, how would I not be successful? Because I had a father who had the substance misuse problem. I didn't want to be like him. I had to go out of my way to make sure I wasn't like him on the other brother, when he was interviewed, said the exact opposition was like, Why would I turn out this way? I had a father who were who had an alcohol problem off course, I would end up that way. Of course I'll go down that same line, Andi, along the lines of a both adults and the second brother who made that same statement was also having alcohol difficulties, alcohol control, difficulties. So Keith in perspective, you know, we were or have event or have changes were her. All have difficulties. It's how we look at them. It's how we choose to see them on how we think we can use that challenge or difficulty toe help ourselves. The second Brits really is, um, being prepared for change. So this have been prepared for changes. Challenges difficult. So this is in line along with the 1st 1 which is perspective. So, as I said at the start, life would always have twists and turns. Life is not going to be straight forward journey, So the festive is the perspective. Knowing that and knowing, you know, thinking along those lines, as I said before, but also being prepared for check the challenges or the changes because they will come. It's not a matter of if is they will come on. Life will always give tricks and turns, love flows, challenges. It is a question of being prepared and thinking off how we can, you know, overcome them. The other Phil is attention. Focus. So what? All this happens, we where we focus our attention, matters a lot. So if we focus on the challenges, the difficulties, um, how insurmountable a fancy at the minute, that is what we will continually see, and that is what we will continue think about. But if they keep our attention on the long term goals on the long TEM parents that we have, as I said, it's from It's a journey from A to Z. If we keep our attention on Z, which is the end point, it automatically helps to take attention from the difficulties and helps to focus on the end game. Also, self awareness now self awareness is very, very important now. Self awareness helps with knowing what we've got. A new insight no will have on the ability levels. No one works for us knowing what our support system is. No will when to say no movement went to stop knowing when to push yourself. Now that is really so powerful because one of the key things about with building resilience is emotional stability. No, if you have thought with us at the back of our minds on weak hand, tell when we've got emotional stability in, you can tell the level toe through much no stability, and that really helps. Now. Going further on is a couple of other things that I'm going to talk about, which is patients. So patients is something that is really very difficult. Teoh. It's a really beautiful virtue to develop, especially in this day and age of fast of the fast life. Because we've got the Internet, we've got to do so late for everything happening really quickly. It's where they notes about whatever we are looking to achieve. You know there will be obstacles on you, will take time and then also importantly, is the talk what we say to ourselves, which brings me to the point on positive talk. Now positive talk is really very important because what we tell ourselves really doesn't make a difference. When things get difficult, we need to tell ourselves I can cope with this. I will get through this. There's a sane by Henry Ford, where he said, whether you think you can all you think you can't. You are right. So what you say to yourself really doesn't matter. You really doesn't make a difference. So if you keep telling yourself happened, Corpus, I will get for this. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It will come that way on that resilience that English strength will come through. So also in line with the positive talk is a very important thing. Is to replace negative thoughts with positive, more realistic ones. Um, a good way of thinking off Jane Laissus to think about other people who have, you know, have had such experiences and have survived and have been through them on have comma on the other side. So if you think if if first negative thoughts keep coming, try to replace them with the more realistic are more positive thoughts. Another important thing is to take positive action. As I said before, into with self awareness, we all have our support system. We all have the things that we do to help ourselves get through a difficult time through a bad day. So when you have those and you know what it is, that helps you take those actions and what do you got at first because of motivation? Wouldn't be there if you know, you know we're going through a difficult time. But if we take those positive action on, take it, do the things that help us, we will see a huge difference. So I don't know. The Ryan also will be talking about anxiety control. So I talked about emotional stability when I talked about himself away, and that's briefly there. So there is a thin out there that people are worried about. Let's coronavirus. There's a in common recession. There's the, you know, news about some people being unemployed, people losing their jobs. Many business is closing up. No, it they are enough to induce anxiety in anybody. But the key thing is to be able to control those anxieties. And I will say this if they get to the accent where there's still huge and you can't you try to with Impossible, please seek medical advice, seek advice from a mental health professional, and I'm not talking about that level of anxiety that will have a huge impact on your life. I'm talking about, you know, daily ons. Ice is the we or have a lot of time on anxiety disorder in particular. So taking control off the anxiety that is being induced by that event or by that circumstance is very important. How do you take control of? But I'm in yourself with knowledge off what you need about that situation and positive talk. Positive talk for virtual practice. Mindfulness for those who practice, meditate, meditation. They really help. So the other bits is talk. Do you know, talking on acting on goal? Set it. Now that is really important because this and comm passes everything that I've talked about in terms of resilience. Now go Cetin is you working up in the morning? I'm not talking about long term goals. I'm talking about waking up in the morning. Take it each day at a time. So taken each drink lots of time on practicing everything that I've talked about, which is perspective being prepared for change, self awareness and emotional stability. Um, and I t control, focus attention. So when you wake up in the morning, I'm positive talk When you wake up in the morning, sets the goal for the day, so take it. Yet the time focused on the war Chicken control set the day. Today I am going to think positively. I arm going to prepared for the challenges that will come my way. I I'm going to do the best I can to control whatever anxiety that might be industry in the day. And I work full cost on what is going on, focusing what you can control. Focus on taking the next that rather than looking after there the day after weather and looking at the long term goal. What's going to happen in a month's time? What's going to happen next was go to happiness six months down the line. Now, if you take the gore sets and act into the daily daily daily structured a plan for you, it would help with building your resilience on. What I have learned about resilience is people often think, you know it's the big big Zen fail. You know that I have to a big goal. The Hatter chief Oh have achieved resilience. It's the little bits is the gradual. Take it each debts at each day at a time and practice in distance. Gradually, you start to build a resilience. Gradually, you start to build your strength. So I hope happen. Able to say a very say a few things to help talk about resilience. I know this is something we all shoulder work on each day on, and nobody has arrived in terms of resilience is something that we continually walk on. Um, So thank you for listening.
