A Favorite Conversion Tip
Josh HallHello, my friend. It's Josh here popping in with another little solo chat. I wanted to wrap up this week by sharing with you one of my very favorite website conversion tips. This is something that helped my business dramatically. It's helped so many of my students and members of my Web Designer Pro community because it's something that I share in actually a couple different of my courses. And in short, it's a perfect fit section. This is something that would ideally be on your homepage, and it's something that can dramatically help you increase conversions for both your website and just your sales in general. So that's what we're going to dive into in this one. Now, first off, I want to share where this tip originated from because this is not something that I read in a book. This is not something that I learned about in a course. This is just something that I found out by having a meeting at a local coffee shop with one of my potential clients years ago. And here was the situation. And he asked me that after he had let me know a couple important things. And by a couple important things, I mean he had two bad experiences that he let me in on. Bad experience number one was that he had previously worked with a freelancer, a web designer who was just way over his head, was completely overwhelmed. And on the client side of things, the problem was that this designer just never got back to him. He was not responsive. He did not communicate well. He never got back to emails or calls. He kind of just like disappeared. My client, or well, would soon be the client, uh, had to like hound him down to get any sort of response. So terrible experience working with a stressed-out, overwhelmed freelancer. On the other hand, bad experience number two came when he went the opposite route. He actually worked with a big digital marketing agency, but there were problems that were completely opposite to that. And those being, he worked with a salesperson who wasn't involved at all past the sales meeting. And there was a different person for the onboarding. And then there was a different designer, and there was a few different people involved in the design development process because they had some internal churn. And in short, that whole experience left him feeling like he was just kind of a number on a spreadsheet and was probably just one of a hundred clients they were working with at that point. So it was not personalized at all. And it was just, yeah, he just felt like he was working with a big bloated agency. So knowing that, when he asked me that question, why do you feel like you're a good fit for us? And being that most importantly, I was at a place where I had just begun to scale up my little web studio. I could confidently tell him, good news, we are right in the middle. I'm not a stressed-out, overwhelmed, solo freelancer. I have a very small and lean but mighty team. But I'm also not a big bloated agency that treats clients like a number on a spreadsheet. We are right in the middle. We are a perfect fit. And that's where this idea came from because he loved this visualization. He loved this explanation. And shockingly, or not shockingly, he became a client. And it worked out really well because we really were the perfect fit for him. And actually, I found most web designers are in this camp. Even if you just have a couple folks you hire out to every once in a while, this is the case for so many community members of my community web designer pro. Even if you don't even consider yourself a small studio or a team yet, you kind of already are if you're delegating at all. So you're you're probably in this realm where you're kind of perfectly right in the middle. So I wanted to get that on my website stat. So I came up with this section that is called the perfect fit section. I've seen other web designers call this the right in the middle section or we're just right. You could come up with a variety of names that suit you and your brand and your style. But for the sake of this, I'll just call it the perfect fit section. So I want to share a little more on this, and I'm gonna share some real examples on this too that we'll have linked below because this is all taken from my recent newsletter. If you're not signed up for my newsletter, my friend, it is the compliment. It's kind of the written version to this podcast. Every Friday, usually, I send out a tip, a blog style strategy, something that's gonna help you. Sometimes it's related to the podcast from the week, sometimes it's not. Uh, but definitely sign up. It's completely free, joshhall.co slash newsletter. So let's dig into this. But first, I do want to share a quick shout out to the sponsor of this newsletter and a sponsor for our upcoming ProCon 2026 event, who has really helped me with conversions, particularly conversions on proposals, and that's 17 hats. 17 hats is the CRM I've been using for contracts, proposals, and invoices since 2015. So well over a decade. I have a special deal that I've set up with them for you. If you have not found a great CRM yet, or if you're using one that is just not going well and you're just finding contracts, proposals, invoices, onboarding automations are just not working well for you. I'd invite you to take what works for me. You can literally have my system, my contract, proposal, and invoice system added to your 17 account, your 17 hats account for free because you can get your uh seven-day trial for 17 hats. Go to joshhall.co slash 17 hats, get a seven-day trial with that link, and then automatically you'll get my quote, contract, and invoice template completely for free added to your account. 17 hats is awesome. Again, love having them a sponsor uh for ProCon 2026. And I've been using them for over a decade. They've been solid for me, they'll be solid for you too. Now, let's expand on this perfect fit section. Again, I would try to visualize this, and I really encourage you to check out the newsletter. I will have that link below for this episode. Uh, and I have all my recent dozen or so newsletters linked below as well for you. So check those out. But this one will be linked because I want you to see this eventually. Well, I mean, this is in this is in video form in my business course and my design course. I talk about this in different avenues on both of those courses, but you can see this there. Um, but definitely want to check this out. Eventually, I'll make this a public video. But it's just been such a solid strategy for me that it's worked for so many folks in my community after going through this. So this gives you a teaser of it. Um, and in short, I'm gonna audio explain this, but I want you to visually see this, so check the links below. But the idea is a three-column section. First column is freelancer with some sort of graphic or visual of a stressed-out, solo, alone, you know, preneur. You're right in the middle. I actually visually say we're right in the middle, and there's a picture of me with a little laptop that's just like mono colored, and then there's little arrows that point to a few different people just to represent my very small but lean mean team. And then on the right, the third column, it says big agency. And there's a bunch of people with ties on just to illustrate the fact that your options, if you don't go with us or somebody similar, is the stressed-out solopreneur freelancer who's never going to get back with you because they're overwhelmed, or a big agency where you're gonna feel like a number. And this is an exaggerated tactic, but it's true. I mean, it is honestly true. This is not false advertising. And I would definitely get to the point where if you are actually, well, if you're in my community Web Designer Pro, you're automatically in the middle because even if you're doing everything yourself, as soon as you get overwhelmed, you have a support network of Web Designer Pros to be there alongside you and to help you. So another reason to join Web Designer Pro at Web DesignerPro.com. But don't, I would definitely say don't false advertise it. And if you are on the agency side, that's fine too. I'm just, I'm not. That's not my style. I'm not a big seven-figure agency guy. I just don't like the overhead. I don't like the stress. I don't like the payroll. I don't like that. I like a small but meaty, uh meaty, a small but mighty team. And a meaty team team too, I guess. Maybe you can use that if that's your brand. But that's my preferred setup. So that's what the visualization looks like. Three columns on the left, freelancer with an image that's a stressed-out person that has a very quick line or two about one person being stressed out and overwhelmed. The middle, you and a small but mighty team. You're well taken care of by, in my case, Josh and small team. And then on the right, big agency, lots of ties, lots of people, literal ties. And then say over here, you're gonna feel like a number on a spreadsheet. But we are right in the middle. You can see this live, aside from the links below to the newsletter. If you want to see this live, you can go to josh.intransitstudios.com. That is the freelance solopreneur version of my site before I sold it to Eric. And it's become much more of a it's kind of in the middle of a studio and an agency now, but it's still a small and mean team, uh, mighty team and mean team in the best way. But you can go to Josh at intransitstudios.com to check that out. If you would like to see that section live, that is literally what I designed, and I'm not touching the design because even though I'd love to make it a 2026 version, it still works today just like it did 10 years ago. So I'm not gonna touch it. It's still, I think, a very genius visualization. And I know that because it's worked for so many people. Uh, speaking of other people, there's a couple other examples in this newsletter that I reference. Again, go to the link below to check this out live visually. But uh Ben, Web Designer Pro member, who's freaking awesome at forwardwebdesign.com. He has a similar version to mine, different graphics, different lingo, but very, very, you'll see, it's like super similar. And then Jen at jennylane designs.com has a great one that's really all about her as an SEO strategist and kind of partner to folks. So even though she doesn't have a team present in there, it's also a good mix of like how you could be a solopreneur, but also how you articulate how you are right for a certain segment of clients. Her version says going in alone. Hers is more pivoted to going in alone, you're DIYing it, or working with Jen or digital agency. So another great example that's a little bit different than what I have, but it's she took that similar concept from my course and then did this. And shocker, she's busier than ever. Jen was my VA for almost a full year and had to step away from her VA role because she got so busy in her web design business, which was the whole point. So I hope this helped. It's my very one of my favorite website conversion tips. This is actually one of the tips I'm sharing next week at the Simply Profitable Designer Summit. The 2026 version is all about conversion and AI. So I really recommend you check it out. You can get a free ticket, go to joshhall.co slash summit or the link below to get your free ticket. I'm gonna be sharing five not so common website conversion tips. What I just shared with you here today is one of them. So if you want the other four, check out the summit completely free, joshhall.co slash summit. It's going down March 16th through the 20th. My presentation is gonna be this coming Monday on the 16th. It will be followed by a live QA. So I'd love to see you there. It's gonna be freaking awesome. It's run by Shannon Mattern, one of my good colleagues, just one of the best web designer and brand designer summits in the industry. Joshhall.co slash summit. Free ticket, conversion, more money, more time, more fun, win-win. Uh, last things I want to mention real quick before we sign off. Uh, next week. Oh my gosh, do we have a fun podcast episode coming out on Monday next week? Monday's gonna be a good day. Summit and an episode with Pat Flynn's executive assistant, Jess. Jess Lindgren is on the podcast, and we get to hear from her end uh as a VA and as an EA, an executive or virtual assistant, what she's looking for when she's being hired. Uh, so if you are in a point where you are looking for a VA, do not miss this conversation. I don't like to be demanding, uh, but I really uh demand that you don't miss this conversation because it's so freaking good. Jess was awesome. And yeah, if you're looking to figure out where and how to hire and find a VA, Jess is one of the best in the business. She works with Pat Flynn and her story about how she started working with Pat Flynn and where she's at today with him and both of his brands, it's a don't miss. That's Monday on the Web Design Business Podcast. If you did not get a chance to listen to my interview with Andy Milligan this week about his successful but stressful$200,000 year in 2025, another awesome conversation. Had such a blast. That was in person, so it's very different, different feel. It's also kind of a half-coaching session as well. So check that one out for sure. Finally, today is the last chance to get your ticket to Pro Con 2026. Web Designer Pro members, if you've been on the fence, if you've been thinking about it, at the time of recording this, we have 13 spots available. You have got to get your ticket by the end of the day, today, this Friday, because we are about to order swag. And uh yeah, we have a final headcount due next week to all the folks who uh are doing our social, our event, etc. So today, jump into Web Designer Pro, grab your ticket to meet in person next month in April 17th to the 18th. If you are not yet a member of Web Designer Pro, you can join Web Designer Pro and get a ticket today. Any questions, you can let me know. But that is where to go to grab your ticket to ProCon 2026 coming up in just over a month. I can't believe it, and I'm so freaking pumped. All right, my friends, go on your website, add your perfect fit section, thank me later. You'll thank me very quickly because it will help with your conversions, I promise. And uh check the links below to see this live, and everything I mentioned will be linked below. So can't wait to hear how this one helps you out. All right, my friends, I will see you next week on the podcast because we've got a whopper coming out and some more whoppers after that. Cheers.
