#361: Divine Inspiration in Creativity,
I explore the connection between faith and creativity, sharing my belief that unexpected inspiration comes directly from God. My personal experiences as a comedian have shown me that our greatest creative breakthroughs often arrive when we stop forcing ideas and remain open to divine guidance.
• When good ideas appear unexpectedly, I believe they come from God
• Using your gift brings you spiritually closer to its source
• Working on a God-given talent is a way of honoring and celebrating Him
• Inspiration often arrives when we loosen our grip and stop forcing ideas
• The courage to share your gifts with others is a compliment to their source
• Creative breakthroughs feel different from logical, step-by-step progression
• Recently experienced a major breakthrough after 2.5 weeks of writer's block

You know, I'm a Christian and I believe that sometimes whenever you get an idea, okay, and you don't really know where it comes from, like you ever had an idea and someone was like, hey, where'd you get that idea from? It just sort of came at you right out of nowhere. If it's a good idea, I think it came from God. If it's a bad idea, I think it came from somewhere else. But that's besides the point, right. And you know, and a lot of times when I'm working on comedy and stuff, when I feel like there are certain gifts that you have in life and again I feel like those gifts were given to you by God and the more that you work on them, the more you really celebrate Him and you really make Him look better, right, and I believe that whenever, uh, you get these moments, whenever you do something that you feel like as a gift of God, I feel like you're that much closer to him. It's it's like spiritual you know what I mean. Like if you're a talented painter and you're painting, if you were kind of having like a writer's block, maybe not just for writing but for painting or whatever it is, I feel like your connection is a little bit deeper, because you're doing something that God has already given you a gift on. And that's exactly how I feel when I'm writing comedy. When I'm writing comedy and I have an idea about something and I'm stuck a lot of times, whether I try to force my will or trying to have a good idea about something, or I just I write it and rewrite it and I'm all over the place. Okay, a lot of times when I loosen up my grip, I just feel like an idea, something will come to me from somewhere and I feel like that somewhere is God. I really really do, and whenever and again, this is my opinion, but it's also more than that. It's my belief. I really like something that can physically touch. I really believe it more than just that, it's fact to me. Um, I believe that whenever you're doing something that is a gift, right, that you're not just closer to God, but it's like he can, you can like hear his voice. It's more, you're more in tune with yourself, right, and anything when you're, when you're in that, in that realm, okay, that is inspiration. It can only come from one place, right?
Speaker 1:Recently I had a joke that I was working on. I thought about this because recently, I had a joke that I was working on and, regardless of whatever I was doing, I just I just wasn't getting it, it wasn't making sense and out of nowhere. I just felt like I had an idea and it came from somewhere else, and I can only give that credit to God, because I don't have any other explanation. And I feel like when everybody, whenever somebody comes up with a cure or they're like a passionate doctor or something like that I feel like it all comes from one place and I feel like there's also something to say about that. But we don't really know what that is. But why not put a name behind it and call it what I think it really is, which is God? You know, this isn't a spiritual podcast, but sometimes I really want to share stuff, and this was just on me, so I wanted to share it.
Speaker 1:You know, I'm also a really big believer in the fact that the more that you do something, that is a gift, okay. Okay, you know I touched on that lightly a second ago, but whenever you do something, it is something that is like it doesn't have to be a Christian thing to do, right, but it could be hunting or it could be painting, or it could be teaching or something like that. I feel like the better that you do at that skill set, the more that you put yourself on the line to be able to explore and to dive into that, you're only really like complimenting God even more. Because I mean, imagine the courage for lack of better words that it takes for somebody to get in front of a stage and to sing. Maybe they sing great and that's a great gift that God gave. And no one's saying that you have to be a world-class singer, right. But to be able to shine and to show that gift, it's got to be the biggest compliment you could ever give. Give back, you know, it's got to be one of the most inspirational thing, and that's also why I think that God gives these gifts so that you can touch other people. You know, when I make people laugh, it's not, it's, it's not a bad thing, right, it's always a good thing, anytime that you ever hear music or that you, you see a beautiful art, all those moving things.
Speaker 1:Okay, it's got to be one thing and again, this is me I think it's got to be God. There can't be any other explanation to it. I mean, how could who else could give all the credit to, for these external ideas that come from somewhere else, out of nowhere, not the things that are already on the track, like if you're walking up a staircase. You keep walking up a staircase, you know. It's like general progression that you're going to hit the next step, right, but what about the thing where you just go from walking up to a staircase to, all of a sudden, it's like you're on a whole. It's like you're on a whole other level, right. What about those times when you just get something out of nowhere? What is that?
Speaker 1:Unfortunately, I also feel like people can be inspired in the wrong way, and that comes from the guy downstairs. But again, I'm not getting into that. I'm keeping things positive, keeping it real and honest with you guys, but whenever I'm in the place that I need to be to be working on a comedy, I'm at my table. I might not really know what to say or what to do, but 99.9% whether I'm walking around or I have a notepad on me or I write something in my phone, whenever it comes from somewhere else, I feel like it's got to be him. So again, this is just something that I just wanted to share and it's kind of left field, but I had writer's block for like two and a half weeks based off of a joke and I had like a breakthrough and it was almost like the gift was given to me and I appreciate it and I'm thankful for it and I just wanted to share it. So, anyway, that being mentioned, everybody, have a beautiful day. I'm Ben Joel Dunn. Thank you so much for your time. I'm out. Peace.
