Welcome And What The Show Does
SPEAKER_00Hey, welcome to the Tammy Bennett Show, the podcast for people who want to feel better and get shit done. It's me, Tammy Bennett, Life and Business Coach, and I'm here to share bite-sized episodes full of mindset tips and practical strategies for setting goals and overcoming goblins like procrastination, perfectionism, and overthinking so you can get more done without all that nasty self-talk. And sometimes I just share personal stories about my experience that won't be chalk full of tips, but they will help you feel less alone and probably a lot more normal. This is gonna be fun. Hey friend, welcome to episode 281 of the Tammy Bennett Show. Today's gonna be a very short, sweet little episode because I can't find my podcast mic and I don't feel great. And so um yeah, it's gonna be short and sweet. I really wanted to get an episode out this week since I didn't get one out last week. I think the every other week is working really well right now while we're in this state of chaos and sort of living on both coasts for a little bit. So here we go. Today I'm gonna give you just a little tiny pep talk, but I think it's something that's so important to hear. I need to sort of tell people this all the time. And the reason I'm actually thought
Your Thoughts Are Changeable
SPEAKER_00of um giving you this pep talk today is because in my accountability club, that is the six-week program that I am putting on right now to help people with their marketing and their promotion. Yesterday on one of our live calls, I talked to them a lot about becoming aware of their thoughts, their sort of default thoughts, their go-to thoughts that their brain gives them, which are almost always negative for us humans. Our brain loves to give us lots of negative thoughts. And then once we discussed being aware of those thoughts, I helped the people in the in the group learn how to change those thoughts. So if those your sort of default thoughts are ones that are not helpful to you, not useful to you, you can change them. You literally can change what you think. It's just a decision. So what I wanted to tell you is that if your brain gives you lots of negativity, there
You Are Not Broken
SPEAKER_00is nothing wrong with you. You are not broken, you have a brain that gives you negative thoughts, like most typical brains do. If you are a person that really needs external accountability or external deadlines to get you to do the dang thing, there is nothing wrong with you. That's just how your brain works and what your brain needs. If you are somebody that procrastinates and puts things off until the very last minute, but then you get it done, there is nothing wrong with you. That may be just how your brain works. You may need some of that urgency to get yourself to do the dang thing. There also may be some fears that you're kind of avoiding and some emotions that you're avoiding, but all of those things you can work around and work through. But I want you to know that just because you procrastinate, you are not broken, there's nothing wrong with you, you don't need to shame yourself and beat yourself up. If you have an ADHD brain, you are not broken, there's nothing wrong with you, you just need to figure out tips to work with your brain. If you have a brain that has a very hard time making a decision and moving forward, there is nothing wrong with you, you aren't broken, there's nothing you need to fix, you just have to figure out ways to work with your brain. So I could go on and on and on, and I could give you 50 more examples about things that maybe your brain does that maybe you've been beating yourself up for or being down on yourself, like why is my brain always so negative? Why does my brain have fear of failure? Why does my brain procrastinate? All of those things. But I want to just tell you this whatever your brain is doing, it doesn't mean that you are broken. It doesn't mean that you need to be disappointed in yourself. And um, it might mean that you have a harder time, sure. It might mean that it like it kind of stinks and it's a little bit um, I don't want to say sufferable or miserable, but yeah, it it may be harder, but there are things that you can do to work with the brain that you have. It's just a matter of figuring those out. I help people with those all the time. Um, but it's just a matter of figuring out, okay, how does my brain work? What does my brain need to do to get itself to do the dang thing? And then doing that, right? So it's I just want you to first of all lay off, stop beating yourself up, stop being down on yourself because your brain might not work like some of your friends' brains or some of the brains that we see of people on the internet showing all the things that they are accomplishing. Maybe your brain doesn't work like theirs, but it doesn't mean that you are wrong or broken or something that needs to be fixed, and you're not something that needs to be shamed. You're just a brain that needs to be figured out.
Release Shame And Get Curious
SPEAKER_00So, first step, let go of the shame. Don't be down on yourself about it. Just go, oh, I see. This is what my brain needs, this is how my brain operates, and then get curious. What can I do to work with this brain that I have? Right? And listen, there is a case for medication, and that works for a lot of people, and a lot of people choose that route. So I am not telling you to not go medication route. Absolutely, if medication is the thing that your brain needs and that you want to use to help your brain work better, then 100% go get the medication. Um, that's just one of many ways that we can use to figure out how to work with our brains. So I just wanted to give you this pep talk today that if your brain isn't typical or isn't the same as the brains that you see all over social media, um, that nothing is wrong with you. You aren't broken, you aren't something to be shamed. You just have a brain that needs different things. You might need different uh, you might need different tactics and strategies. So I want you to release the shame, stop beating yourself up about the brain that you have. And then step two, let's get curious and figure out some ways to work with the brain that you have. Let's meet your brain where it is instead of trying to fix it and change it into something else. That takes a lot of energy that we could be using to just figure out how your brain works and how to get going and do the dang thing with the brain that you have. Okay? I love you so much. No matter what your brain is doing, I love you. That's it, folks. That's all I have for you today. I told you it was gonna be short and sweet, and I mean every word of it.
