Next Level Nation today for episode number 2,100. 2,100. Another little accolade. Letting the right stuff fall is a master skill. I was updating my to-do list today. My to-do list has been just nuts lately, so much stuff on there. I was updating it. I went through and I said, honestly, we should get out of here 100%. You don't even need should get out of here 100%.
Alan LazarosYou don't even need to be on here anymore.
Kevin PalmieriOne of my favorite things in the world. It's the best, it's the best, and I also know what it's like to think every single thing on there is going to get done and it has to get done and if it doesn't get done, it's the end of the world. But I think this is something that I know a lot of people don't like to-do lists. I love them. It's super helpful for me, top of mind, it's easy, it's organized, cool. But it's very easy to be overwhelmed with things that you think you're supposed to do when you don't actually have to do them if you don't have them organized. So I can literally look and say, oh yeah, I remember I put this on here three weeks ago. That already got taken care of Awesome.
Kevin PalmieriOr, honestly, when I wrote this down, the conversation I was having with this person was in a different place. I'm going to take this off the list and when they ping me, I will do it again or I'll start the process. I do that all the time with people. Somebody will say, hey, in six months I'm going to. We're going to do this thing. It's not going on my to-do list, I'm putting them. I'm literally gonna wait for you to reach out to me and and say, hey, it's time to do that thing, so that is something I'll hand right off my to-do list. So, yeah, I think letting go of the right stuff, letting the right stuff fall, is a master skill worth developing. And it's scary and it's weird, but I think it's something that's awesome there's a guy who reached out on LinkedIn.
Overwhelm and the illusion of urgency
Alan LazarosI'll do first names only. His name is Jordan Jordan. Hey, alan, I'm just now getting back. I got the same fucking message.
Kevin PalmieriOf course.
Alan LazarosComing out of LinkedIn retirement, nice, your support would mean a lot to me. Dash, by the way, for people out there who use ChatGPT, get rid of the dashes. It's obviously AI. It's fair. Get rid of the dashes. Okay, if you feel called, I'd love to see your name in the comments section. With gratitude, jordan sent me a video, and it's a video that he sent to everyone. Obviously, he sent it to you too. Okay, that responding to that message is not essential, fair, it's not essential to my future. I don't even know this person.
Kevin PalmieriDo you know this person? I do know the person. I don't personally know them, but they were in our space at one point. Yeah, Okay.
Alan LazarosEmilia. Let's imagine Emilia has a text message to me that is pertinent. We're heading to the lake this weekend. That is pertinent. It's pertinent for what we're doing today. We have a Conscious Couples podcast episode. Later we're packing the car Tucker pets. What do we got going on? Later, we're packing the car Tucker Pats. What do we got going on? Boom Family Awesome.
Time, energy, and what truly counts
Alan LazarosImagine if I spent time responding to Jordan about his canned fake I don't actually know you or care about you message instead of my beautiful girlfriend and future wife, emilia. That would be what I would call dumb. I think we spend so much time and effort on dumb shit and I'm not trying to be unkind, I'm saying this because I care. If you spend your life, your time and effort is all you have Time, effort and money. If you spend your time, effort and money on dumb shit, your future will suffer and you have to be very, very discerning. So how do you do that? There's a great TED talk about this.
Alan LazarosI'm going to I'm going to paraphrase it very quickly 18 minutes. I'm going to put it into one minute. I have a filtration system. Is this urgent? Does this need to be done now? Is this important? Aka, is this going to matter a lot and is this significant? This is the one people mess up. Significant means it will pay dividends forever. I messaged Kev yesterday. I kid you not. Oh boy, here we go. Let me recall here here we go. Opus clip you know it.
Kevin PalmieriOh boy, here we go. Let me recall here here we go.
Alan LazarosOpus clip. You know it, yeah, you can fuck your opus clip.
Kevin PalmieriHow about?
Alan Lazarosthat.
Kevin PalmieriAll right ready.
Alan LazarosBoom, boom, boom, boom. Hey brother, what are our credentials for opus clip? We pay for this. I don't use it. I want to use it. I have a speech that I want to put in there. Get some clips. Awesome. Oh Lord, do you need it tonight? This is Kevin's response. I kid you not. Oh Lord, period, do you need it tonight? Question mark you dumb fuck. I'm kidding, I'm joking. See, he didn't say that. All right, oh Lord, do you need it tonight?
Kevin PalmieriI'm having fun, I legit don't even know.
Alan LazarosAt this point, we really need a passwords sheet. It's fair and accurate and accurate. Here's the deal. We're wasting time by not having a password sheet. At the end of the day, kevin has more important things to do than whether or not I have the credentials I got it to you today though you did, and I appreciate it, I have to mark that as unread, by the way, because otherwise that will slip through the cracks forever until I go to my to-do list again, which won't be until next week.
Alan LazarosSo at the end of the day, the 21st century is so noisy. I really care deeply about our listeners. You cannot waste time and effort and money. You can't. Your future will suffer so tremendously if you are wasting time, effort and money. Those are the only three things you have time, effort and money. That's it, money. Those are the only three things you have Time, effort and money.
Kevin PalmieriThat's it. I had a really nice back office day lined up yesterday. You and I had one episode to do and I had a podcast pre-call. That was going to be it and I got a text from a client at like 10, 15. They're like hey, can you hop on a call? We have an opportunity, of course, yeah, I'm here, here I come, I'm here, let me throw my clothes on after the gym. Here, here we go. That took a half hour. That I didn't. I let a bunch of stuff fall. Well, that client gave us a new opportunity that helps the business. Bada, bing, bada, boom, awesome. Another client asks me hey, I think I want to start a new podcast in this direction. Can you give me the details? Cool, I didn't get almost anything I wanted to get done. Done. Yesterday I got so much stuff that I didn't even know was going to happen.
Alan LazarosDone tactical, tangible. How did you know that that was more urgent, important and significant?
Kevin Palmierigoing back to the previous episode, it all is connected to money. It's all connected to money new and it does not affect current money. Let's go deeper.
Alan LazarosYeah, why does money matter? Money matters because the business grows. Now we can get better equipment, we can hire better team, our lifestyles can improve. You and I can delegate and automate more, which frees up our time to then help even more people.
Kevin PalmieriThe abundance, the feeling of abundance, of having money.
Alan LazarosThe feeling, the certainty that we can invest for our future. And I want to make sure we connect these things, because you can't just say, oh, I want to make more money. Why? More money is dumb, for no reason. The team is better off, the company is better off, the world is better off, because when is better off the world is better off? No-transcript.
