Success is a lease, not a trophy. In today’s episode, Kevin and Alan explore why most people lose momentum right after they win. When goals are reached, discipline fades, standards soften, and progress quietly slips. This conversation challenges the myth of arrival and examines what it really takes to sustain success in fitness, business, relationships, and personal growth. It is about protecting your habits, sharpening your identity, and staying committed when comfort becomes tempting.

If you want lasting confidence, consistency, and performance, this episode will reset how you think about winning. Press play. Raise your standards. Defend your future.

Kevin Palmieri

(0:00) I have been saying this for a long time, and Alan and I have kind of disagreed on this, but I think when you get a result that maybe you didn't think you could get in the first place, it's harder to maintain that because you get all the good feelings, you get all the good vibes, and you get comfortable. (0:15) And when you get comfortable, it's hard to go back to work.

Alan Lazaros

(0:19) I tell Kevin, the only reason we got to this level is because we were shooting for the next level. (0:25) We cannot coast on this level. (0:28) Welcome to Next Level University.

Kevin Palmieri

(0:31) I'm your host, Kevin Palmieri. (0:32) And I'm your co-host, Alan Lazarus. (0:36) At NLU, we believe in a heart-driven, but no-BS approach to holistic self-improvement for dream chasers.

Alan Lazaros

(1:04) Self-improvement in your pocket every day, from anywhere, completely free. (1:11) Welcome to Next Level University.

Kevin Palmieri

(1:16) Next Level Nation, today for episode number 2,340, you can literally celebrate your way out of success. (1:25) At this point, I am very grateful to have accomplished a lot of things that I never thought I would. (1:30) And I also understand how challenging it is to achieve a goal, feel all the good feelings that come with that goal, and then realize, oh my goodness, I have to go to battle again tomorrow.(1:49) You know what maybe the hardest thing about it is? (1:51) You have the thing that you want, but you can't use it as much as you want to. (1:55) That is the fucking issue.(1:58) That's the issue. (1:59) You get, you're on a mission and you're grinding, and then you get the car. (2:04) You can't just go drive the car whenever you want.

Alan Lazaros

(2:08) You gotta keep doing what got you the car.

Kevin Palmieri

(2:10) You'll probably drive it less. (2:12) That's the problem, I'm telling you right now. (2:14) I believe that is the, probably the biggest issue, is when you get success, you get results.(2:21) When you get results, you need to increase success to maintain the results, to maintain them. (2:26) Not even, I'm not even talking about getting more results, but in order to keep them, you have to do more to maintain them. (2:32) That's why.(2:33) And I feel like every time you level up to a certain degree, I don't know when this crosses the threshold, you lose time because it requires more time to level up more, and it's this vicious cycle that I think sucks, and it's also necessary. (2:50) I think that's what it takes.

Alan Lazaros

(2:54) I told Kev before we hit record, I wanted us to get into flow, and I wanted us to have a healthy discord about this. (3:04) I think you and I are on very similar pages. (3:06) I agree.(3:07) Yeah. (3:07) With this, yeah. (3:10) However, I think I'm more excessive with it.(3:13) I think you're more excessive with everything. (3:14) That's fair. (3:15) Yeah.(3:16) It's a fair assessment. (3:17) Okay, I'm gonna start with this. (3:21) I think it makes no sense to get to the next level and then stop, because the stuff that got you to that level, yeah, the quote I always go back to is, success can't be owned, it can only be rented, and the rent is due every day.(3:41) This is it. (3:42) Okay. (3:44) 10 pounds in 10 weeks challenge.(3:46) 28 of you are on that. (3:47) Awesome. (3:48) 55 people in the fitness group.(3:49) If you want in the fitness group, reach out to Kevin and I. (3:51) I'm not sure if that was a word. (3:52) Okay.(3:53) The fitness group. (3:55) Real quick. (3:57) You get the 10 pounds in 10 weeks.(3:59) We're 10 days in. (4:00) Awesome. (4:00) Let's say we get there.(4:01) Now what? (4:02) I'm going to set another goal. (4:05) And I'm assuming you are too.

Kevin Palmieri

(4:09) Yeah, my goal is to go to 165. (4:12) So the goal is already set, because I know if I don't, last time I said I was gonna do it, and I didn't do it. (4:19) So I'm really hoping I do it.(4:23) Honestly, it sucks. (4:25) I'm really hoping. (4:26) Well, the hard thing is, yeah, yeah, yeah.(4:29) What I should have said is, I'm not doing the 10 pounds in 10 weeks challenge. (4:32) I'm gonna do a 20 in 20, is what I should have said. (4:36) But it doesn't work that way, because I'm one of the leaders, and obviously I have to do it in a certain way to make sure that it actually, leading by example, but.(4:44) 100%.

Alan Lazaros

(4:45) Okay. (4:46) You and I, let's say we get, it's April 11th is the end date. (4:50) And let's say we both hit the number, which we're gonna.(4:54) Now what? (4:55) In my opinion, if you don't immediately set another goal, you're gonna start coasting. (5:01) I got something for you.(5:02) And when you coast in fitness, you get worse. (5:05) I got something. (5:05) Because of age.(5:06) I got something for you.

Kevin Palmieri

(5:07) I'm sorry, I'm pointing at you. (5:08) No, you're good. (5:08) I got something for you.(5:09) You know how I knew I wasn't a legit bodybuilder? (5:13) You know how I knew? (5:14) I didn't, never expected you to say this.(5:16) Okay. (5:17) I, my coach kind of fucking laughed at me, as he should have, not in a bad way. (5:23) When I told him all of the food I was buying for the day after the show, when he laughed at me, I was like, he would never do that.

Alan Lazaros

(5:31) I would never do that.

Kevin Palmieri

(5:33) Yeah. (5:33) That's how I know.

Alan Lazaros

(5:34) Okay, real quick. (5:35) Let's have that conversation. (5:36) This is good.(5:37) This is good. (5:40) I would have a refeed, for sure. (5:44) Yes.(5:44) But I. (5:45) As you should, as you should. (5:46) Agreed.(5:47) And I did have a refeed every time. (5:49) That was my favorite part, is not the refeed, but you feel like a monster. (5:53) Because you go from really lean, to now you carb up, and it's just like.

Kevin Palmieri

(5:58) And you're still really lean.

Alan Lazaros

(5:59) And you're still really lean. (6:00) Yeah. (6:00) So you have, oh, it's the, it's the best.(6:03) Post-show is the best I've ever felt. (6:05) That picture that I showed you, that my dream photo, of the best physique I've ever personally had, cried in a movie theater when I saw Henry Cavill in Superman, and then a couple of years later, I looked not like that, but my own version. (6:18) It was post-show, for sure.(6:19) That's like when you're lean still, but you're not starving at all. (6:23) And you're, all your muscles are carbed up. (6:27) Best, okay.(6:27) Anyways, neither here nor there. (6:31) He would never do that.

Kevin Palmieri

(6:32) Why? (6:34) Because he's not, that's not why he's doing the show. (6:36) He's doing the show to win, and then go to the next one.(6:40) I was not.

Alan Lazaros

(6:41) I was doing the show to win, but it was, you were trying to bodybuild, to stop bodybuilding. (6:49) Whoa, infinite game versus finite game. (6:51) We landed on it.(6:52) This is great. (6:53) I don't know if it's that cut and dry.

Kevin Palmieri

(6:54) Dude, I had such a bad experience that. (6:57) But you were. (7:00) I know, I intended.(7:01) I intended on doing another show. (7:03) Remember, I did. (7:04) I was prepping for another show.(7:06) Okay. (7:06) And then I got a cheat meal. (7:08) My coach gave me a cheat meal.(7:09) It was a half a pint of Ben and Jerry's. (7:11) I woke up at like one o'clock in the morning. (7:14) I texted him and said, I'm fucking done.(7:15) And then I went upstairs and ate all the Ben and Jerry's. (7:19) And that was it. (7:20) My mind was made.(7:20) I'm done. (7:21) I don't want to do this anymore. (7:23) It's not serving me.(7:23) It's not serving me is what I came to.

Alan Lazaros

(7:26) To give a little backstory, and I know we're talking about fitness, but we're talking about a success principle here. (7:31) I did three shows. (7:33) Thought I'd win the first one, got fifth.(7:36) Thought I'd lose the second one, got first. (7:39) Thought I'd win the third one, got fourth. (7:41) And the one that I won, I won the overall.(7:43) My point of this is, I told Kev, I was trying to, I wasn't just trying to win the show. (7:49) I was trying to win at life. (7:51) And as, let's break that down.(7:54) I wasn't trying to win the finite game. (7:56) I wasn't trying to win one show. (7:59) Back then, I was going to keep winning shows.(8:01) So I was trying to, Kevin was like, why did you come in so, and this is me paraphrasing. (8:08) He didn't say exactly this, but it's like, dude, you came in too fluffy. (8:11) You're not going to win.(8:12) You're not lean enough. (8:13) And I told you, I was trying to win the show without having to get too lean. (8:18) The reason why is I didn't want to lose muscle mass.(8:22) And so I was trying to win the show, but I was trying to win at life more. (8:27) And when I train now in fitness, yeah, I'm trying to like, win the 10 pound in 10 week challenge, metaphorically. (8:36) But I'm, the 10 pound in 10 week challenge, I train for life.(8:39) I don't train for 10 pound in 10 week challenge. (8:41) So much of that comes down to awareness though. (8:44) Well, can we, let's talk about that because, dude, I'm not trying to, okay, business, same deal.(8:54) I'm not trying to reach our goal in business so that we can get there. (9:00) There is no arrival point. (9:04) And you know that now, but I need you to go to both sides because when we hit our goal for 2026, which is nearly impossible, it's going to be hard, but I think we can do it.(9:14) I'm not going to be like, yay. (9:16) And then now we're good. (9:19) I'm going to up the ante for next year.

Kevin Palmieri

(9:21) What's the point of setting the goal in your mind to grow as much as possible and contribute as much as possible?

Alan Lazaros

(9:30) So then the next goal you set makes you grow and makes you even more. (9:34) And then I would say quality of life is third. (9:36) The real reason to set a goal is to stretch yourself, grow yourself, contribute more and have a higher quality of life.

Kevin Palmieri

(9:44) Do you think your syntax is optimal for me? (9:48) Yes. (9:49) Why?(9:50) I like quality of life so much. (9:51) That's your problem.

Alan Lazaros

(9:53) You would have a higher quality of life if that wasn't the case. (9:57) Wait, what? (9:58) You'd have a higher quality of life if you didn't focus on quality of life.(10:02) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. (10:03) That's the paradox.

Kevin Palmieri

(10:05) Yeah. (10:05) Well, that's, I mean, that's kind of, this is an example, right?

Alan Lazaros

(10:07) Your quality of life is higher than it's ever been, right now. (10:09) For sure, for sure, for sure. (10:10) Okay, that's because you haven't focused on it at all for the last nine years.

Kevin Palmieri

(10:14) And I think you can rewire it too. (10:17) I do, and this is not a flex, like I don't live in a fucking mansion by any stretch of the imagination. (10:21) I was walking, so we have three bathrooms and one of the bathrooms is, it's a bedroom and a bathroom through the garage.(10:29) And that's mine. (10:30) I shower down there. (10:31) It's my bathroom.(10:32) I love it. (10:33) I was walking back and I was like, I don't, this is like plenty. (10:37) This is great.(10:38) This is perfect. (10:38) I don't know if I need a fucking bigger house than this. (10:40) Like, what are we doing?(10:42) There's too much. (10:43) It's too much, too many stairs. (10:44) Like, again, first world problem.(10:46) I'm not flexing, I promise. (10:48) It's not a fucking, I promise it's not a mansion. (10:51) But I think my, I think my, I wouldn't say my syntax has shifted, but I still like a nice dinner every once in a while.(11:02) I don't know. (11:03) It's weird. (11:04) It's weird because I think the more, the more quote unquote successful in whatever it is that you're doing, you get the more awareness you have of the downsides of being stupid.(11:15) Nice. (11:15) That. (11:16) Nice, this is good.(11:17) Fitness is the best example of this. (11:19) This is what happens. (11:21) Oh my goodness, I had a really good week.(11:23) I'm gonna binge and hammer food in the weekend. (11:26) You just fucked the whole week up. (11:28) You just fucked the whole week up.(11:30) And if you do that two days in a row, you're going backwards. (11:32) It just doesn't feel like it. (11:34) That is why.(11:35) Because you can be very consistent in the right direction for 50 weeks out of the year, and then you can be incredibly undisciplined and very consistent in the opposite direction exponentially faster and you can fuck everything up.

Alan Lazaros

(11:48) Unfortunately. (11:48) That is so true. (11:49) That's a great point.

Kevin Palmieri

(11:50) I think it's easier to fuck up than it is.

Alan Lazaros

(11:51) You can screw up. (11:52) You can fail way easier than you can succeed. (11:56) Like you can screw up a good year.

Kevin Palmieri

(11:58) Why?

Alan Lazaros

(12:00) Entropy. (12:02) This is, everyone can look this up. (12:05) Entropy means all things go to chaos.

Kevin Palmieri

(12:08) Yeah, but isn't it a given time though? (12:09) How long?

Alan Lazaros

(12:10) Yeah, it is in a given time. (12:12) But okay, real quick. (12:16) So you and I have similar sized homes now.(12:19) If we just stopped cleaning for the year, I'm not joking. (12:24) You're not allowed to clean your house for a whole year. (12:26) Remember, I don't know if you saw Finding Nemo, but there's a scene where you're, I'm not even gonna get into it.(12:32) Everyone else will know what I'm talking about. (12:33) The lobster or whatever it is that cleans the tank. (12:36) He's not allowed to clean because they're trying to get taken out.(12:38) It doesn't matter. (12:39) It's hilarious. (12:40) He ends up cleaning and they all shame him for it.(12:42) He's like, I am ashamed. (12:43) All right. (12:44) Anyways, so you gotta see that movie.(12:46) It's such a good movie. (12:47) You know what I'm saying? (12:48) It's too late now, it's too late now.(12:49) It's not too late. (12:50) It's awesome and Taron should tell you. (12:52) No, it's a fun movie.(12:53) I think it's funny. (12:54) But anyways, so if we stopped cleaning for the full year, you're not allowed to clean. (13:00) Taron's not allowed to clean.(13:01) Emilia's not allowed to clean. (13:03) My housekeepers aren't allowed to come. (13:05) This place would get shitty so fast.(13:08) Dude, like bad. (13:11) That's entropy. (13:12) Entropy states, this is not the exact definition.(13:15) This is my playful version. (13:16) Everything goes to shit over time. (13:18) That's entropy.(13:19) Meaning, if you don't exercise, the body will go to shit very quickly.

Kevin Palmieri

(13:30) Was that because you're fighting against degradation that's already happening?

Alan Lazaros

(13:34) Degradation's automatic, building is not. (13:36) That's it.

Kevin Palmieri

(13:37) Yeah, yeah.

Alan Lazaros

(13:38) Which is why, dude, this episode, coasting is not intelligent. (13:43) Coasting is a terrible idea because of entropy. (13:47) I'm gonna look it up.(13:47) Let's look it up. (13:48) It's not gonna be hard. (13:52) Define.(13:53) Shit goes to shit.

Kevin Palmieri

(13:54) Yeah, stop that. (13:55) But it is.

Alan Lazaros

(13:56) Stop doing it. (13:58) It's all things fall into chaos over time. (14:01) Entropy is a measure of disorder, randomness, and uncertainty in a system.(14:06) A few clean ways to think about it depending on context. (14:08) In physics, entropy describes how spread out energy is. (14:12) In everyday language, here we go.(14:15) Entropy is the reason your room gets messy unless you clean it. (14:18) Systems degrade without maintenance. (14:19) Order requires energy and intention.(14:21) Okay, this is one of the base laws of human nature and the universe. (14:32) If you stop working, everything in your life stops working. (14:37) Yeah.(14:37) This is why. (14:39) Faster than if you start working hard. (14:41) Yes.(14:42) Way faster, dude. (14:43) And this is, I've never been able to explain it well because I've been telling Kevin this for nine years. (14:48) It's like, dude, you can celebrate for like a moment, a day, maybe, but you can't like, things go to shit very fast.(14:58) Dude, I was humbled in COVID. (15:01) I took four months and I still worked out, but I couldn't do it in a gym. (15:06) It is alarming how quickly my muscle mass went.(15:10) That was like four months, dude. (15:13) I took away four years of work in four months and I still worked out every day. (15:20) That is the truth about success.(15:22) That is why I'm such a pain in the ass because I think I'm very connected to how quickly things degrade when you don't. (15:31) Most people, here's the truth. (15:33) Okay, some people are dialed in and they're getting better every single day.(15:37) Some people, that's very rare. (15:40) Most people, I would say 90% of human beings are starts and stops, starts and stops, starts and stops. (15:46) The 10 pound in 10 week challenge, I'm grateful for everyone who's in it.(15:49) The moment that ends, we need to set another goal. (15:52) I'm going to, you need to too. (15:54) You do whatever you want, but all the progress you made in 10 weeks will go away in 10 days if you're not careful.

Kevin Palmieri

(16:02) We need to come up with a good visual example of this. (16:06) I don't have one. (16:07) The only thing I can think of is like, but it doesn't connect.(16:11) You know, you can never, you'll know better than I, kinetic energy, potential energy, whatever the fuck it is. (16:17) If you drop a ball, it can never go as high on the bounce as it did when you dropped it, no matter what. (16:22) I feel like the success part- But you can if you hammer it.(16:28) Well yeah, if you hammer it. (16:29) Put a force to it, which is a good metaphor for success. (16:31) For continuing.(16:33) But maintenance is like, if you roll a ball down a U, it's going to stop eventually. (16:39) It can only go for so long because of friction. (16:42) It can only go for so long with the momentum that has.(16:45) I think that's, but you can start really high and you can start higher and higher and higher, but eventually the ball's going to stop. (16:52) And I think that's a good example maybe for this. (16:55) I don't know.(16:56) I'll try to think of something because I don't know how to explain it either other than when you get what you worked so hard for, you actually have to work harder to keep it.

Alan Lazaros

(17:05) Unfortunately, I would go one layer further and this is my thesis. (17:09) I know we got to go here in six minutes. (17:13) For the next level listeners, I'm fighting for you.(17:17) This is directly to you. (17:19) I want you to, the only reason Kevin and I got to this level is because we were shooting way higher. (17:27) That's the one thing that, all right, let's just say hypothetically, you and I, we decided to have the most successful personal development company in history.(17:38) That is a game that we'll, okay, let's say when we hit our goal at the end of 2026, our revenue goal, that's only a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of our true goal. (17:49) So we're not going to slow down, we're going to speed up, which means every second of every day we have to get a little better. (17:56) Maybe not every second, but you know what I'm saying.(17:58) Like I watched, we're watching old 90s movies lately because I want some nostalgia. (18:02) Free Willy. (18:03) Okay?(18:03) Oh my God. (18:05) 1993. (18:05) Hold me.

Kevin Palmieri

(18:12) That's a fucking, that is a great, also, fuck you guys for hurting that whale like that.

Alan Lazaros

(18:18) That's what I'm saying, man. (18:20) Unbelievable. (18:21) You know what I watched recently too is Little Giants.

Kevin Palmieri

(18:23) I've been just going back to when I was a kid. (18:25) I told, I asked Tyron, I said, remember Little Giants where the dude carries the fridge? (18:30) I'm doing that with the stuff that we're moving.(18:32) Nice. (18:32) Spike. (18:33) The annexation of Puerto Rico.

Alan Lazaros

(18:35) Spike overruns Power Eye.

Kevin Palmieri

(18:37) Spike.

Alan Lazaros

(18:38) That's 1994. (18:39) I love that. (18:40) So, dude, I'm so grateful that we, I found a movie that we both like.

Kevin Palmieri

(18:45) Two of them.

Alan Lazaros

(18:46) Two of them in a row. (18:47) Yeah. (18:47) In the 90s, you watched movies.(18:50) My aunt used to bring home movies from Brantley Camp and it was like big box of VHSs. (18:57) Remember Heavyweights?

Kevin Palmieri

(18:58) Classic. (18:58) I had never seen Heavyweights until we interviewed Isabel Picard and she talked about it. (19:04) And then I spent four hours making a teaser clip from that movie.(19:07) At least four hours. (19:08) I mean, this was, I invested some serious time in this. (19:11) That was Ben Stiller in his heyday, man.

Alan Lazaros

(19:13) He was so funny in that movie. (19:16) This is the dig of the system. (19:18) We'll all be doing this by Labor Day.(19:20) He's like laying on spikes. (19:22) Okay. (19:24) Gerald Gunn, 190 pounds.(19:26) Okay. (19:27) What were we talking about? (19:29) Oh, so many things.(19:29) The next level. (19:32) The reason we got to 2,300 episodes is because our goal was not to get to 2,300 episodes. (19:37) Our goal was to podcast and have a successful podcast that adds value to the world consistently over time.(19:44) If the goal was to get to 100 episodes and then we got to 100 episodes and stopped, the success goes. (19:50) That would be the end. (19:52) The only difference between you and I having our dream careers and changing the world in our own unique way, in our own amount.(20:01) And who were those two podcasters back when? (20:05) That's the difference is one of us levels up and then never stops. (20:09) Level up, celebrate a little, and then immediately go to the next level.(20:15) And this is the thing. (20:16) People say this. (20:17) There's like comedians that say, so let me get this straight.(20:19) You want me to get better so that I can get better so that I can get better so that I can get better? (20:25) Like, what's the point? (20:26) That sounds stupid.(20:27) Why don't I just be the way I am now? (20:30) The problem with that is they don't understand that if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. (20:37) Automatically, automatically.(20:38) Everyone right now, real quick, imagine not exercising at all. (20:42) You're not allowed to walk. (20:44) You're not allowed to run.(20:45) You're not allowed to lift weights for a year. (20:47) People who have an arm and a sling, yeah, you're in for three, four months. (20:51) It's the scraggly little arm.(20:52) If you don't use it, you lose it. (20:54) I'm not saying you have to become a billionaire. (20:59) That's not what I'm saying.(21:00) What I'm saying is you always have to have goals. (21:02) The point of the goal is not getting the goal. (21:05) The point of the goal is to improve consistently and have your quality of life improve as a byproduct of that.(21:11) Trying to have an extraordinary life while staying an average person is not gonna happen.

Kevin Palmieri

(21:15) Give me a percentage of, like, what's the equation from your perspective?

Alan Lazaros

(21:20) 3.1 hours a day, 16 waking hours. (21:23) That's still what you're with? (21:25) Yeah, I think if you're celebrating more than three hours a day, you're messing up your success for sure.(21:30) Anything more than that? (21:32) What's your definition of celebrate? (21:35) R and R and being present and not worrying about the future.

Kevin Palmieri

(21:40) But isn't R and R for the future? (21:45) What do you mean, no? (21:46) Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, but that's...(21:49) But in my mind, we're talking about celebrate. (21:51) We're talking about yachts, boats, popping bottles and shit. (21:55) You're telling me I can't relax after a hard day's work for my two hours?(22:01) Okay.

Alan Lazaros

(22:02) No, I think you should. (22:03) Yeah, yeah. (22:04) Yeah, I think you should.(22:06) I broke free will into two nights, you know, just so you know. (22:09) Not a long movie. (22:10) The truth is, I do think 20% is the max for R and R.(22:14) 16 hour waking day, eight hours of sleep, you end up with 3.1 hours. (22:18) 3.1 hours for an adult of R and R is a lot. (22:21) That's a lot of R and R.(22:22) You could watch a long ass movie every night. (22:25) Every night, yeah. (22:26) And like...(22:27) That's fair.

Kevin Palmieri

(22:31) But that's the thing. (22:33) It's like... (22:34) You remember The Sims?(22:36) You ever play The Sims? (22:37) I love that shit. (22:39) You start off, you're peeing on the floor.(22:42) Not me, the Sims. (22:44) They're peeing on the floor. (22:44) They just pee wherever they want.(22:45) For whatever reason, I don't understand it, but they're very impatient. (22:49) Well, because you haven't built them a bathroom yet. (22:50) I didn't have the funds.(22:52) Rosebud is the... (22:53) Remember the cheat code, Rosebud? (22:54) For some reason, I still remember that.(22:56) Infinite money. (22:57) Yeah, Rosebud.

Alan Lazaros

(22:59) Infinite money, nice.

Kevin Palmieri

(23:00) Infinite money, yeah. (23:02) So, eventually it gets to the point where you gotta fucking... (23:04) You have...(23:05) I have been swearing so much, my apologies. (23:07) You have an indoor pool, you have an outdoor pool. (23:09) You have the big TV, you have the robot.(23:11) You have this thing, you have this thing. (23:12) You don't have enough time to do all that stuff and be successful. (23:15) You can't do all of that and be successful.(23:18) So I think that's your point. (23:22) Discipline is harder when you have results. (23:26) That's my thesis.(23:28) I think discipline, maybe depending on how you're wired, but when you have everything you need and when you have everything you wanted, I think it's hard for most people to keep pushing. (23:39) Yeah. (23:39) You wanna enjoy the fruits of the labor, quote unquote.(23:42) But the problem is, if you enjoy the fruits of the labor, you got nothing to eat later.

Alan Lazaros

(23:49) The other thing about this last piece, I gotta jump on a coaching session. (23:56) Is there a way to get to a point where you're not doing it for results? (23:59) You're doing it for growth and for contribution?(24:05) Results are great. (24:06) Remember, it's grow more, give more, get more. (24:10) In that order.(24:11) The get more is only one third of the equation. (24:14) So if it's a three-cylinder engine, you should still have two cylinders going when you get the car or the house or the whatever, or the body. (24:24) I think you can gamify this and make it so that no result will slow you down.(24:29) I do. (24:30) And again, I know I'm on the extreme end of that, but that's my truth is, dude, give me a million dollars tomorrow. (24:35) I'm not gonna change a thing.(24:36) I mean, I would certainly invest some of that differently.

Kevin Palmieri

(24:39) But my goal is to get that to somebody that's more like me than you.

Alan Lazaros

(24:43) The paradox here though is that you won't, if you would stop working, if you made a million dollars, I would bet you're not gonna make the million dollars. (24:52) Well, even if you did, you're not getting far.

Kevin Palmieri

(24:55) You better hang on to your fucking job. (24:56) You make a million dollars, you're gonna need a career.

Alan Lazaros

(24:58) Agreed, agreed, but you know what I'm saying? (25:00) Yeah. (25:00) A lot of people say, well, he's a billionaire, she's a billionaire, why would they keep working?(25:03) Because they would never have become a billionaire if their goal was just to make a billion dollars. (25:07) A billionaire is a byproduct of changing the world in their own way, whatever it is. (25:13) Like there are no billion dollar companies that didn't make a giant change in the world.(25:17) For better or for worse is another conversation. (25:19) But there's ways to have motivators that are beyond material things.

Kevin Palmieri

(25:26) Maybe we should do that. (25:26) Maybe we should do that for next episode so we can go. (25:28) I thoroughly enjoyed this.(25:29) I think this was a really interesting, intriguing, valuable conversation and I'd love to go into that. (25:35) Cool man. (25:35) Because I think I'm way less focused on the results than I ever have been.(25:39) Well, so you're proof. (25:40) But I also don't know how to teach it. (25:44) So maybe we just have a conversation about it.(25:47) Cool man.

Alan Lazaros

(25:47) How to rewire yourself. (25:48) Do you dig it? (25:49) How to achieve more even after you achieve your dreams.

Kevin Palmieri

(25:53) Nice. (25:55) Interesting. (25:56) You just get bigger dreams.(25:58) You just get bigger dreams. (25:59) And you just chase them forever and you're just on a treadmill forever. (26:01) But it's your treadmill.

Alan Lazaros

(26:03) It's your treadmill though. (26:05) And you can be healthy, wealthy, and in love as a byproduct of the treadmill. (26:09) That's all I'm saying.

Kevin Palmieri

(26:09) And the scenery, the scenery gets better too. (26:11) Exactly, the scenery gets better. (26:12) You feel good about yourself.(26:13) All right, all right. (26:14) All right, if one of the things that is helping you feel better about yourself is leveling up your fitness, we have the Next Level Fitness Accountability Group. (26:21) Reach out to Alan and or myself.(26:23) We will get you into the group. (26:24) It's a private WhatsApp group. (26:26) People are in there every day.(26:27) Alan's in there every day. (26:28) I'm in there every day. (26:29) It's awesome.(26:29) Great people doing great things in fitness.

Alan Lazaros

(26:33) Also, this is what I told Kev I was gonna say. (26:36) My 26 clients know that I'm the pain in the ass that I hope they will thank one day. (26:41) If you, Kevin had a coach in the past that he hired and you said something along the lines of, you hire this person, his name was Justin, first name's only, his name was Justin, and you hire Justin when you wanna win the show.(26:56) But you don't hire Justin unless you wanna know the truth. (26:59) And like, what's your take on this? (27:01) You hire Justin to win, you don't hire Justin for a good quality of life.

Kevin Palmieri

(27:06) You don't hire Justin if you want to feel good about yourself. (27:09) You hire Justin if you really wanna get closer to your potential in fitness.

Alan Lazaros

(27:13) Okay, that is what I want the frame for my coaching to be from now on. (27:19) If you wanna have the best 26 you've ever had, the best year you've ever had, starting now, we're in February, obviously. (27:26) If you care more about success than your quality of life, coach with me.(27:31) I will make you more successful than you have ever been. (27:34) And yeah, it's gonna suck, and that's okay.

Kevin Palmieri

(27:37) And your quality of life will improve as a byproduct. (27:39) Even though you don't care about it, it's nice to have nice things. (27:42) All right, cool.(27:43) We will focus on success, and your quality of life can be a byproduct. (27:46) There you go. (27:46) As always, we love you, we appreciate you, grateful for each and every one of you, and if you are as committed as you say you are to getting to the next level, make sure you tune in tomorrow because we will be here every single day to help you get there.(27:56) Keep leveling up to reach your full potential.

Alan Lazaros
