Alan Lazaros
(0:17) The quote is (0:18) Very little is actually impossible

Kevin Palmieri
(1:12) Next level nation today for episode number 2,500 big 2,500 the top three lessons from 2,500 episodes. (1:21) These are like my favorite to do honestly, even though We've done them less over the years because it was like a top top three lessons from a hundred episodes That's awesome. (1:30) Then it's 500 then you get to a thousand 250.
Alan Lazaros
(1:32) Did we not?
Kevin Palmieri
(1:33) I don't know. (1:33) I don't remember That was a long time ago, but I told Alan I said we got it. (1:37) We got to do one for this All right, cool.(1:38) Here's mine. (1:39) I'm gonna start I'm gonna get right off. (1:40) I'm gonna right off the bat here.(1:41) Okay? (1:44) If you don't give it a decade, I don't want to fucking hear about how it didn't work. (1:49) Hmm We're in year so we still I started excuse me, let me let me give myself some flowers here I started the hyper conscious podcast in March of 2017.(2:00) Okay So, what are we at nine? (2:07) Almost a nine and a half years.
Alan Lazaros
(2:09) Mm-hmm.
Kevin Palmieri
(2:10) Is that accurate? (2:11) Yes, sir 17 yeah and It'll be nine and a half years at the end of next month, so yeah, yeah, so we're close We have had more we have had 80% of our success In the last 20% of this journey. (2:28) Yes That is the Pareto principle.(2:30) You've heard us talk about that before Well, that's actually different because this what is that the the time one because that's not the Pareto principle It's it's a it's an iteration of the same principle. (2:39) Okay. (2:40) Well, yeah, but I Don't want to hear it You did it for a year and it didn't work.(2:46) I don't want to hear it Hmm, you did it for two years and it didn't work as well as you want. (2:50) I don't want to fucking hear it same Same brother didn't work either three years didn't work Before it started to kind of work, but it was worse somehow than it was like now it actually feels like it's working, but it's been nine years Fucking years of this I Gotta share this.
Alan Lazaros
(3:10) This is good, please. (3:11) So both Kevin and I today and we got to share the underbelly of this but first the story I Had underbelly I had a breakthrough session today as did you? (3:28) Both of us on said breakthrough session.(3:31) It was basically like so how does it work and Then we told them how it worked and then we onboarded them I got a new client today. (3:41) I Didn't have to sell anything That is so different than was it was in the beginning. (3:49) So you and I both got a new client today, correct?(3:51) I Didn't have to sell anything All I said was hey, this is how it works I recommend you start with once every four weeks and then as soon as we ramp up once you cross a trust threshold I might be able to sell you a package. (4:04) He's like, okay I said as soon as you're on the calendar, you're a client. (4:06) I'll onboard you later today.(4:08) He's like good and Then the call the rest of the call was what do you think I need to work on and I basically just told him and The reason I'm sharing that story is because that's nine years in In the first year not a chance. (4:23) It would have gone that way the first year. (4:25) It was like There was so much I'm telling you I can help you.(4:32) I promise I can help you like I can totally help you like we're winning We're doing it. (4:37) And again winning is relative. (4:38) Well winning is relative.(4:40) We were consistent We had our shit together in some ways.
Kevin Palmieri
(4:44) I had my shit together more than I even thought but It doesn't matter What matters is you have a track record Nine years I'm excited where I can say ten because that's a much better number But that even for me is very surreal because number one it hasn't seemed like it's been that long. (5:02) Honestly Probably like year four and three and four I was probably like wow this it feels like it's been a hundred years But now it doesn't seem that way when I look back. (5:11) That's wild But I that I think that's the thing is like so many fucking people start something And then they give it a year and they're like, I really gave it an effort It's like on it.(5:22) I'm not saying you didn't but I'm I am saying you could have given it more of an effort And I we say this to podcasters when we coach podcasters. (5:29) I love the fact that you've been podcasting every week for a year That's amazing. (5:33) That's 52 workouts You're not gonna get in great shape from 52 workouts.(5:38) Yeah, it's just not enough 52 workouts is two months if you go every day So it's like it's just not enough. (5:44) It's great start. (5:45) It's a great start.(5:46) But that that is my new thought process.
Alan Lazaros
(5:49) I Awesome, if you've done it for a year good you in the beginning Time perspective right the time perspective playing a long game finite games and infinite games I I always said my career wouldn't even start till I was 50. (6:04) I now realize how nuts that sounds Like well, Alan, you're only 37. (6:10) Haven't you started your career?(6:11) It's a saying let me unpack it from 0 to 10 You're a child from 10 to 20. (6:19) You're educated from 20 to 30 You're messing up everything from 30 to 40. (6:23) You're building from 40 to 50 and 50 to 60.(6:25) You actually are in your power (6:27) That's I I always broke down the decades (6:30) So so for someone who hasn't and someone who didn't (6:35) And I know I'm making more and more sense to you as we keep on the journey (6:39) It's been nice to see like a lot of stuff (6:41) I tried to get through and now you're not only living it but also teaching it which is good because I think coming from you (6:47) I had a client say this to me (6:49) She said (6:51) one of my clients is listening to the podcast and he's having a hard time and she kept it anonymous and (6:57) And (6:59) Basically it is making him feel bad about himself and I said if he struggles with self-belief (7:05) He probably I don't want to say shouldn't listen, but he needs to listen with a grain of salt (7:11) So anyways, why am I saying that she said? (7:15) Learning from you is like learning basketball from Shaq. (7:18) Everybody knows you're full of it They know you didn't have to do what they had to do Now, I don't think that's exactly the same because I'm not eight feet tall Okay, but but the point that I'm making with this quite frankly I think I put in more effort than anyone would even know or could know so it feels very invalidating Just like when I say, you know, you have good genetics Kev.(7:36) So I work harder in fitness. (7:37) It's very invalidating. (7:39) It's annoying But I do think there is some truth to it because the truth is the hard truth I don't really have any self-doubt in my ability to achieve things It's scary to say that out loud.(7:50) So if I if it seems like I'm lying because I'm insecure it's because I'm insecure about saying I I Very rarely doubt myself ever in real life saying it is scary living. (8:00) It is easy-peasy so You have to be the one to do the decade thing because I was always gonna do it for a decade I don't I was the one who stayed too long brother. (8:10) I never quit too early.
Kevin Palmieri
(8:11) I don't know if I can I Can just say you have to find a way to survive. (8:17) I Don't I don't outside of that? (8:19) It's like I don't know because I wasn't necessarily building this and it wasn't I didn't build a foundation it was very much like I'm just trying to hang on to make sure I can Exist until this quote-unquote works out so I don't even know if I have good advice or a good perspective on that I don't know.
Alan Lazaros
(8:34) I it's If you go back and coach Kev nine years ago, you do believe Kev could have a successful podcast Now I do. (8:43) Okay. (8:44) Yeah.(8:44) So now so what would he have to do?
Kevin Palmieri
(8:47) He'd have to stay in it for a decade You'd have to set himself up for serious pain and failure be extremely consistent Yeah be extremely and all the things that matter Not just the one thing like give me five Give me one thing and then give me five things around the one thing that matter to hold that building up starting cool And even that in the beginnings of fucking lots. (9:06) Give me three the main thing and then two supplemental things don't ever miss also While not missing you also have to get better every time you do it just a little bit better Just a little bit Honestly hell of a pitch almost Insignificantly better you won't even notice. (9:23) Yeah from day to day progress is invisible from year to year It's impossible to miss but it will feel brutal.
Alan Lazaros
(9:28) That's the key is it'll feel it'll feel shit You're not gonna end the day feeling good about yourself like but see that's I don't know man because I did a lot of time Yeah, because I was proving myself wrong Yeah, yeah instead of proving.
Kevin Palmieri
(9:41) Yeah, okay So like they're fair that never resonates with me f why when you're like nobody ever gets the end of day feelings like man Other people agree with you on that.
Alan Lazaros
(9:50) It's like I don't get to the end of the day feeling accomplished Never I feel accomplished. (9:56) Yeah, that's a you thing dude for me. (9:58) It's like I'm up.(9:59) I think that's a most people thing Yeah, I would I would say that's fair I think the people that you look at that are successful. (10:06) I guarantee you they're not like going to bed Like I crushed a day like no, they're like, yeah, Emilia and I know like she is the most productive person I've ever seen In real life and She never goes to bed. (10:22) Like I crushed it today never but she does crush it more than everyone I know I need to make that second part clear.(10:28) I don't think I like she she is the most productive person I have ever met hands down But she never ever feels good. (10:34) Like yeah crushed it today. (10:36) No, of course not.(10:37) Well, I think that's like the expectation versus real competency Delta yeah what she was going for versus what she accomplishes is always an L same with me Yeah, I'm not gonna get to the end of today and go. (10:49) Oh, like I'll have a few things that were very strong and And I'll definitely look at the trend line and the trend line is way up. (10:55) But no, absolutely not.(10:57) I'm gonna hit head hits the pillow I'm the man not a chance.
Kevin Palmieri
(11:00) Well, I don't it's not that for me, but it's like yeah strong strong strong showing strong to semi Strong strong to semi strong showing today. (11:06) Yeah nice new client. (11:07) Yeah, you know did some cardio diet was on point cool, awesome, I Don't know.(11:12) I don't know if I have a really like, okay Do the main thing and then the two supplemental things is consistently as humanly possible Honestly more consistently than anybody else, you know, because they're not gonna make it most likely. (11:23) Sorry. (11:23) Yeah, sorry We came up with a lot of podcasters who are like missing shit.(11:27) It's like well You're done now you're done. (11:31) This isn't this doesn't matter to you. (11:32) This matters to us.(11:33) We're gonna keep going. (11:34) Okay, cool See at the top So that I get a little bit Seemingly unmeasurably better each time Going back to the deliberate practice episode we talked about for yesterday that just Just fucking survive Outside of that I that's the thing I feel like a fraud if I say how to build it cuz I didn't build it You just gotta survive find a coach That good coach. (12:05) I had a built-in excellent coach I didn't realize how shitty you was but like, you know, we got it.(12:09) No. (12:10) No, I've genuinely Brother the wrong coach will destroy the building.
Alan Lazaros
(12:14) You're still my coach to this day. (12:15) So yeah But when Kevin says get a coach he means get get a good coach who's Extraordinarily good at what they do and who is not full of it. (12:24) Do not get a Full of shit coach.
Kevin Palmieri
(12:27) Yeah And then like I just think it's survived if this thing really means as much as you say it does if it really means as Much to you as you say it does then you want to survive until you can make it So then why the fuck you quit? (12:41) I'm not gonna get any closer by quitting You're literally thrown in the flat and you're never gonna pick has anybody ever quit something and then decided five years later You know what? (12:49) I'll give that a shot again.
Alan Lazaros
(12:50) Yeah, and there's a Disney movie one Do you ever see the movie where he went back to the major leagues based on a true story? (12:57) I think and he like gave it a second chance and actually made it.
Kevin Palmieri
(13:01) Yeah, but that's dumb. (13:02) Yeah.
Alan Lazaros
(13:02) Yeah I Like brought his kids to try out. (13:06) It almost never happens. (13:07) Yeah.
Kevin Palmieri
(13:07) No, it's extremely that's why they made a movie about it And there was the one with Mark Wahlberg the when he was playing for the Eagles Yeah, it's like it's based on a true story too. (13:15) And by the way, it's a bench player Well, and that's the other thing too one way, you know, this is based on a true story the Texas Chainsaw Massacre It didn't happen the way the movie is. (13:24) Okay, it's based on can be very loosely based on just for the record.(13:32) I And then you just have to survive and you have to find a way to be resourceful and you have to make you have to Do the five S's of success we just talked about. (13:39) Mm-hmm, and you have to understand that this has always been a giant priority Like it's never not been a priority Every single day. (13:55) It's like hey, when the fuck are we gonna record?(13:57) Every every week Usually on Sunday. (14:00) I look at the schedule. (14:00) It's like, all right We gotta find a way to get seven episodes done Alan doesn't have any slots on Tuesday So we're gonna have to do we'll do two on Monday are gonna have to work till eight fuck That's not ideal.(14:08) And then it's just always that it all we it has to be at least in the top three priorities at all time I'm not saying it always has to be number one because I that would be I would be a Hypocrite for saying that because it was not always number one But it was never number four ever ever ever ever ever ever. (14:28) It was never number four. (14:30) It's a really good saying So that would be it it doesn't always have to be number one, but it can never be number four I Can't take credit that for that either because Evan Carmichael said it's good stuff about the money thing.(14:42) I We got to go to the next one. (14:46) Yeah, I took up a lot of time that's on me good one decade (14:49) Why don't you give it a decade do yours and then we can do our combined that way you get enough time on yours
Alan Lazaros
(14:54) all right, mine was based on the coaching session I did with Kev earlier, so I (15:00) Was coaching Kevin I was trying to figure out his constraint and I took him through sort of the (15:05) the way in which I coach I (15:10) start out with (15:12) I'm gonna walk through this briefly (15:15) You have to set a goal that is big enough to matter (15:20) Small enough to hit and the timeline has to be accurate (15:25) So if you want to build a million dollar business, you can't do it in ten days (15:28) Despite what the internet wants to tell you?(15:30) Okay, you can do it in a decade though. (15:32) You can't that's like a totally doable thing. (15:35) We did it you can okay?(15:38) So so you have to set a goal with the right timeline in the right target big enough to matter small enough to hit. (15:44) I Like quarterly 90-day goals, okay All right. (15:49) That's where you start then you have to reverse engineer it (15:52) Okay (15:52) So the person who pays attention to the right person's places things and ideas will invest their time effort and money appropriately (16:00) Which will get them the outcomes they want (16:03) Aka the goal what dictates what someone pays attention to is what you measure (16:08) So the two things you have to get right in this equation is the goal and then what you measure (16:15) so in my coaching (16:17) we do three goals per quarter every 90 days and (16:21) Then we have three KPIs key performance indicators (16:25) So we're gonna use the ten pounds in ten week challenge to explain this (16:28) Ten pounds in ten weeks timeline and a target is the goal (16:33) The measurement is your weight (16:35) but there's two other measurements that also need to be in there which is how much exercise you do caloric output and how much you (16:41) eat and (16:43) The point of this for the biggest lesson in 2,500 episodes is I have been (16:49) Genuinely surprised at (16:51) How few people have an optimal goal with optimal measurements and that feedback loop is almost never correct (16:58) almost never and (17:01) Mine aren't perfect either.(17:03) I tweak mine all the time You and I tweaked yours earlier today, so it can't be like Oh timeline target measurement there's my KPIs go it has to be something you iterate upon and And this is what I would say to if Kevin's point is you got to do it for at least a decade or I don't Want to hear it. (17:21) Mine is you cannot fucking wing it You cannot wing it Movie studios are not winging it down. (17:27) Hey, let's just do a movie and see how it goes No, they're there.(17:31) They have it all dialed in. (17:32) I think more than you think Occasionally people win when they wing it but very rarely those are called cult classics that came out of nowhere That are not normal.
Kevin Palmieri
(17:41) You can't count on that And a lot of the times they didn't actually win till like way later agreed like maybe after the director was dead Potentially. (17:50) Yeah, this movie is awesome. (17:51) Like who was the director like they died 26 years ago.(17:54) Actually, they've been dead What movie are you talking about? (17:57) I don't have one off the top of my head. (17:58) Oh, okay What's one of them is Rocky horror?(18:02) I don't know the name of it but that's like a cult classic that a lot of them do not get famous until they go to VHS back and look it up if you're in your early 20s You won't know what that is maybe but and then hit like the overseas market and then it becomes this whole thing. (18:17) Nice
Alan Lazaros
(18:18) Well, one of the ones that I think of is like Fight Club like Fight Club was a flop at first (18:23) Yeah, not for that long (18:24) I think it was only a little while but they didn't expect that movie to do much and then it and then it did (18:28) But my point is is like that's rare (18:31) You don't bet on that (18:34) This horse might win one in a thousand times, so let's put our money there like that's just it's just so winging (18:40) It is a terrible idea (18:41) And if you don't have a timeline a target and clear measurable goals and measurements you are winging it
Kevin Palmieri
(18:50) How do you know that's the thing like how do we? (18:55) You only know what you know Mm-hmm So you have to start with what you know, and then you have to just be very very very committed to acquiring good new vetted Keyword vetted data.
Alan Lazaros
(19:11) Well, there's a feedback loop. (19:15) There's a feedback loop. (19:16) So we're gonna go to the next one in a second, but the inputs outputs measure adjust inputs outputs measure adjust we have a I Need to redo the digital assets.(19:30) I don't want to show it because I think it's garbage (19:32) I'm gonna redo it but inputs outputs measure adjust inputs outputs measure adjust (19:37) Inputs are what you say think do feel and believe that's what you have control over (19:41) So I always think of behavior just think of inputs as your behavior (19:47) outputs is (19:49) Okay, my behavior is I exercise daily and eat less my output is I weigh less in this case (19:56) I actually am struggling. (19:58) So I don't weigh less. (20:00) So what do I adjust measure?(20:02) Okay, I don't weigh less now adjust I'm gonna stop eating breakfast for the next 10 weeks Which is gonna lower my calories by a certain amount and then I'll so it's always inputs outputs measure adjust Inputs outputs measure adjust that feedback loop Has to be running.
Kevin Palmieri
(20:18) So if Kevin's is you have to do it for a decade mine is you have to consciously Adjust that feedback loop for a decade Last one will be of no surprise to anybody who has been here for any meaningful amount of time Building self-belief is the greatest determining factor when it comes to external success 100% that and again as the guy here who didn't have the self-belief. (20:44) I noticed such a drastic difference How do you how can you tell when someone doesn't have it? (20:50) Because you've been on both ends of this (20:52) It's hard because this was the point that we wanted to make sure we touched on in public (20:56) It's really hard to tell because you can fake it (20:59) Honestly, one of the ways is (21:02) when you (21:05) If somebody's public persona doesn't match their action behind the scenes (21:13) Especially the ability to take something and take action on it very quickly (21:17) You most likely don't have that high of self-belief. (21:21) Yeah, there's but because they don't bug you that you're not taking action It's because yeah, cuz in your mind, it's like why would I just do that? (21:28) And again, that's new to me
Alan Lazaros
(21:31) Yeah, but you don't see people's actions behind the scenes well that I if you could see people's actions when no one was looking I (21:39) Think a lot of people would be more accurate about their self-assessment because I see this all the time (21:46) People are measuring their value based on current position not on trajectory and (21:52) Trajectory is usually based on actions that are behind the scenes because in ten years ago (21:57) I was seen as a you know, just another dream chaser who? (22:02) May or may not be successful.(22:03) Well now we are successful. (22:05) So now it's different, but I feel no different I obviously feel different in other ways, but in self-belief, you know, I mean, honestly, I don't think there's I Don't think I believe in myself. (22:16) Yeah, maybe I do in certain things But there's not a huge change like you notice a huge change in your self-belief from from then to now Sure, dude.(22:24) I don't notice almost any change. (22:27) I Notice a huge change in self-respect a huge change in belief in my relationship a huge change in in certain things but no self-belief, I mean No, oh, it's oh My god, it's so different for me. (22:42) I Don't think it's different almost at all for me.(22:45) I one of the things that shows up now is like resourcefulness I really do believe the That just made me really sad I'm sorry to interrupt you my belief in others has gone down My belief in myself hasn't changed almost at all. (22:58) Mm-hmm Whoa, that's so depressing That is a sad lesson for sure. (23:05) Yeah, that's a sad lesson.(23:06) That's the biggest difference between Episode one in 2500. (23:10) I wasn't there for one technically. (23:12) Hey, it was like two.(23:13) No, I was there for one You interviewed me for the very first one. (23:16) Yeah That's right.
Kevin Palmieri
(23:18) Oh, didn't I do one before that?
Alan Lazaros
(23:19) No very first one that Take a look at this.
Kevin Palmieri
(23:23) No, I did a pilot episode by myself. (23:25) I just don't know.
Alan Lazaros
(23:25) Oh, yeah. (23:25) Yeah. (23:26) Yeah, right I think I was your first guest you were my first guest But anyways from then till now 2,500 episodes later.(23:32) I'm like holding my chest right now It's like I I don't feel any different in my level of self-belief What feels different is my belief in others. (23:41) That's that's gone down so significantly That's so sad. (23:45) And I think that what I was missing from the equation is Now I have so much more data on What people do when I'm not around?(23:55) Yeah, and I see I see the Instagram account and the bank account. (24:00) I see the marriage and the wedding photos it's a metaphor literally and figuratively, but Almost nobody that is so depressing almost nobody is better in real life than they are on social media.
Kevin Palmieri
(24:14) That's so alarming That is rough I don't I think I probably also believe less in people Even though I've always been fairly accurate on that because I think most people Just the process of building up self-belief. (24:30) It's really challenging. (24:30) Not that you can't do it right now I'm not saying you can't do it out there.(24:33) I am saying it's hard though (24:36) It's hard, but I also I'm saying it is worth it (24:40) There is something about the resourcefulness to say I'll just I'll figure that out
Alan Lazaros
(24:44) So we got to go I'm I'm potentially hiring somebody we we (24:49) What I wanted to get clear before we go here (24:52) is how do you know the difference between (24:56) External ego self-belief (25:00) and (25:00) internal (25:02) real authentic self-belief because (25:05) From the outside in in the social world. (25:08) I know a lot of people who appear extremely confident I'm thinking of one person who you'd think he's more confident than me for sure But if you actually assess him and his actions behind the scenes, it's he's not actually that confident I don't know how to do it in a second.
Kevin Palmieri
(25:24) One of the things I'm realizing now is And this isn't based on me This is based on now being surrounded by a fair amount of people that have really high self-belief. (25:32) They're all pretty humble They're all like pretty humble.
Alan Lazaros
(25:37) They don't talk shit Yeah, if anything they're scared to to be arrogant, right?
Kevin Palmieri
(25:43) Yeah be perceived as arrogant Yeah, I'm thinking of a mutual client.
Alan Lazaros
(25:47) We have like he's not he's I'm actually trying to get him to like Show it off show it a little more because it's like brother like people don't actually know That dude has a lot of self-belief.
Kevin Palmieri
(25:56) That is one thing now looking back I got that as a lesson that I would add on some of the people that have the most Self-belief you will never know because they're afraid to show it.
Alan Lazaros
(26:05) Yeah, they're really afraid to show you (26:06) So I don't because because it makes them feel like they don't belong the majority of people don't have self-belief and and this will be (26:13) Where we end like if you have an average amount of self-belief (26:17) You probably crave significance and you probably crave being confident if you have a ton of self-belief (26:22) trust me the last thing you want to do is show it off because you're just alone at the top of that bell curve like (26:30) When I first dated Emilia, we're coming up on our seven years in October.(26:34) I Remember being like, oh, this is the best. (26:37) I don't have to shrink at all. (26:39) She just believes in herself so much it was it's like She just has no I don't have to tiptoe.(26:46) I don't have to like Oh, I hope I don't say anything that might indicate that she's less than me. (26:51) Like there's no concern And I love that because when people are really insecure. (26:57) I was with someone last week.(26:58) That was really insecure It's like it's almost like I don't get to be fully me without them Feeling bad about themselves So those are the top three kind of four maybe five.
Kevin Palmieri
(27:09) We always give a couple bonuses That's always the goal. (27:11) But I mean it's been almost a decade, right? (27:14) I Look forward to the next decade for sure.(27:17) Yes, sir, and I'm sure it'll go just getting started, baby Just getting started as they say All right If you're looking for a coach a good coach a vetted coach one that has had Thousands and thousands and thousands of hours in coaching calls and knows what he's talking about.
