Good morning, Vonda.-
Good morning, Lori. Did you get unpacked from camp?
I have a lot of laundry to do from summer camp, but here's the thing I'm going to admit. Our summer camp was virtual, so I just have a lot of laundry all the time. So  that's, that's my problem. That's the problem. So we, for the first time  in flower click history,  had  Click camp, summer camp, click summer camp.

What was it called? Click camp, summer, summer, click camp, whatever it's called,

Click camp. . Several sessions of click

several sessions, several sessions, too many sessions.  I don't know.

We think it was too many. Now our members and all those invited really.
loved them. We got a lot of feedback. You were actually forwarding me emails today because we sent out   The recordings to people that were asking and we received lots of compliments,  we had six summer camp sessions.   And they were a lot of work.
they were. And I think there were more work than we anticipated because anything we do, we like dive deep to be able to make sure we have the information that we're going to share, you

there is   a tick tock, of course, you know, me and tick tock that has a little recording that a lot of people use and it makes me laugh. And it's what I kept thinking of  as Ellie and I were preparing for this last one, because  honestly, we were kind of over it and we had so much work to do and  the line of   I may have girl bossed a little too hard.

Like we had these big dreams and we're all women. We're like, yeah, we're going to do it. We're going to do six sessions. And we're going to do this topic and this and this. And by the end, we're like, Oh my gosh, I'm exhausted. yeah,
it was fun. And the last one was great because we had a panel of our members and  that makes it so much more interesting  to hear from them.

It was, it was very good. Really good. You guys did a great job on that and bringing out  some really good yeah,
which is, you know, the whole idea to share the ideas on the
yeah. I thought it was interesting that  you know, I always love, I try to read the chats as much as I can in our webinars, but when I'm.  presenting or hosting  sometimes it's hard.  But there was one particular chat from someone,  in this last panel ,  the title is friendship bracelets about connections, networking with other people in the industry.

And then we kind of parlayed that into how do you. Connect with your own employees or how do you connect with your customers? You know how the importance of all of the connections.  But we were mostly talking about connecting with other like minded people in the industry. And I'm sure you saw this.

I've actually have an email started to this person, but she   put in the chat, she said, , I have to leave  a few minutes early, but I just wanted to say. Listening to this does make me regret not  doing more of this connecting with people.   When she was younger, her dream was to test for

AIFD or what is the test they take?
 The PFDE. The AIFD

Yeah. And she said at the time in her mind, you know, she's like, it's expensive. I don't have time. Like,  excuse and she just didn't follow that dream and she put it off and she didn't go to these things. And anyway,  cause she used the word regret  and it

Yeah.

me cause I,  I want to go, it is not too late,

No, no, no, no. It's not too late. It is not

you know?

We have people of all

Right.

testing

Yeah. Plus like you can go to these things.  Like start now,  but anyway   it just kind of made me think, , you never know who's listening  to these and, and, but that's why we had that specific topic is

And how it touches them. You know, we don't know.

young people in the industry, that's why we're saying start now, don't have that regret.

Mm

find your people. That's what Ellie was saying. , she found her people in this industry. It was hard. And for a while she didn't.  And you need that. I mean, you really need that in life. I mean, even if you're not in this industry, whatever industry you're in, whatever you do, you just have to have your people

know the language, right? Know and can say, Oh yeah, that's happened to me too. Like you gotta have that group.  So anyway, all right, we're transitioning.

Okay. Where are we

I

to today, Lori?

 I don't want to

love it. I love it.

yep. Another psychological article.  I just thought it'd be fun.

This is a whole bunch of, I think like 20 some, I don't know if we're going to get through them all, but these are mind altering, mind altering Vonda. That's big.  to

Woo. Woo.

Mind altering quotes  can really transform your life. And I sent these to you last week. And you read through them and a lot of times, let's be honest, you're like, yeah, that's good, but let's do this instead, which you do it nice.

I'm like, okay. But you were like, love it.

I did. I love this.

Of these are really, really thoughtful and, , I don't want to say common sense, but they're like, wow, what a great way to think of them. And  it reminds me so much of. Way back when we talked about  if you can just change your mindset instead of using the word challenge to opportunity.  Just switching that one word  that aligns with a lot of these just switching just switching on One little quote or one little thing can make a huge difference in how you see.

I can just see a little sticky

Yes Of course are gonna be all

Oh,   I need this one today. Oh no, no. I need this one today. You know, just really,

know in our sales prep school how I do the affirmation stuff  And how we're getting ready to kind of revamp sales prep school. Ellie and I are, I'm saving this. Cause I'm like this, there's a lot of good stuff in this that for those post it note times that you need it.

Those are perfect. Perfect.

all right.

So this came from  the blog that I pay to get the medium. com, which is a great little source for me.   That causes me to really think through things.  So why don't you go ahead and start

okay, the first one, change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.

This brought to my mind was that quote that I just love, and that is, watch your thoughts, they become your words.  Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

And so to me, , that quote just like brought that to the forefront of my mind. And I'm like, oh my gosh,

It's very true.

. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. You know, my kids make fun of me  about many things, but one of the things they make fun of me is like, I will not watch a scary movie. I will not watch a really violent movie. , there are certain things I just don't watch.

It's not because I'm like,  Oh, that's horrible. I'm not snooty about it. I just don't want it. in my thought process. I don't want it in my mind

Mm hmm.

I know it is always going to be there. It will never leave me somehow,  somewhere, someplace. It's going to creep up and haunt me when I least expect it. And I don't want it there.

, somebody said this years ago and it stuck with me because I don't

Yeah, you don't, you don't even watch movies period. You don't even watch happy movies.

It's evil in, evil out, trash in, trash out. I mean, that's what we're watching and partaking in.  That, like you said, it sneaks up on you and, oh, here it is.

Not going to do it. , it's true. , and we do, we have to be careful   in the quality of our thoughts.  It also reminds me a lot of the empathy research I've done and speaking about empathy, especially.  Thinking, the quality of life depends on the quality of your thoughts and , let's say I'm talking to somebody, And maybe they don't see things the way I do.

Let's, let's pretend it's a customer.  All right. And they don't see  the design the way I do. Maybe they think it's ugly. And I was like, well, our lead designer did that and it's not ugly. It's contemporary, but they wanted to do, you know, whatever.  Instead of me going, they're an idiot.  , they don't know.

What pretty is they have no style.  I need to put myself in their position go. Well, here's the thing  She's 78 years old.  She loves to like, you know, put yourself in their shoes Try to understand where they're coming from  Number one, it's going to keep your blood pressure lower.  So it's healthier for you Right number two,  those negative thoughts are gonna stay out of your brain

And they're going to stay out of your

Exactly. True. True. So anyway,  that one's a good one.

It

next one is, this is good.  You are not stuck where you are unless you decide to be.

Oh, so true.

is something  similar to what I used to say to students, middle schoolers, even elementary students. You are not stuck unless you decide to be. Think through the processes. Here's the process on the board. Think through it. You are smart. You're incredibly smart. You know how to do this. You have to apply the process

Right.

the solution.  You may have to do it a few times,  but you can find the solution. There is a way out.  It may be hard. It may really hard and you may lose friends. You may lose a business. You may lose something

You're not stuck. You don't have to be stuck. You are today where you choose to be.

This next one is one that we talk about all the time, right? Love what you do, do what you love.  I mean,  as I've mentioned, we tell our children that,  love what you do, then you don't have to work a day in your life. It is all about what you're choosing to do and love what you're doing,

And I I think people get tripped up there. I I have this conversation with my gen  Z,  the 20 year olds early 20 year olds?  Anyway, when I talk about this to, to that age, because we have a lot of that age  developing into this industry, especially at NextGen,   here's what they need to understand.

There are going to be parts of your job  that you're not passionate about. That's okay. That's, that's just life. It's just like being a mom. We love being a mom, love having my children hate doing laundry, hate cleaning a toilet, hate unloading a dishwasher. That's just part of it. You know what I mean? Like it just is.

And we hate

Hate disciplining. Yes.

You know, certain things like that, you know,

up throw up. Just part of it.

Ooh,

I'm just saying,  , so love what you do, do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. All that. That is all beautiful and it is true. But the reality is there are parts of the beautiful that don't always feel beautiful.

absolutely, Lori. I mean, in a flower shop, right?  I loved what I did, but I didn't. Want to take care of nasty customers. I didn't want to wash the buckets always. I didn't want to stay after late when it's, you know, two or three hours late that I have to be there because nobody else showed up for work.

I mean, certain things like that. No, you don't love those parts of it. But , like you're saying, look at it as a whole. You know, generally what I'm doing, I wouldn't give up for anything.

I have never asked you this, what was your least favorite thing to do when you owned the flower shop?  I've seen you do every single task. Everything. And I've seen you do it well and fast, which I know a lot of that's just because experience you've been in it since you were 14 years old.

But which part of when you owned the business, were you like   I like how I feel about doing laundry. Which part were you like, you knew, you know, times you had to do it, but you're like, I just really, this is just not my favorite thing to do. It

, actually, , I didn't have to do it because Bud did, and that was being out in public, sitting on committees in the community. I mean, he was part of Rotary, he was part of this committee, that committee. And I was just like, Oh, thank God he does that because , I'll stay in the shop.

I'll flush the buckets. I'll clean the cooler, all of that. I didn't mind doing it all. But when you're like, you have to be here at this and here and here and here. No, no, no. I just want to operate the business. So, so I was very fortunate. I did not have to do the part that I didn't do. It was a great balance.

And we talk about that to people. That's a really important part of growing the business. You have to have, if you need somebody that can do that and you have to have a certain personality  to be

right. And now

You do. I was going to say you're on a bunch

you right beside me. Yeah, but I'm right beside you on, on everything with Flower Click, on the

You have other people that can balance. Yeah. Yeah. And you're not trying to be In a physical brick and mortar store cleaning buckets and doing all of that seven days a week. So anyway,

Right. Interesting. Yeah.

The next one is Well, I love this one. Whatever the question, love is the answer. Or as St. Augustine once said, love and do what you will.

I want to say this also, whatever the question, love is the answer. , I think that sounds super big, super vague. Oh, love, love, love. Like we're from the sixties bell bottoms. I don't think that's what it means. I think it means speak in love,  whatever

It's exactly what it means.  Because the rest of the quote from St. Augustine, One for all, then a short precept is given love and do what you will, whether you hold your peace through love, hold your peace. Whether you cry out through love, cry out, whether you're correcting something through love, correct.

Whether you spare through love, correct. So everything, when you're making those criticisms or making things that you're like, Oh, do it with love. I think that's what

put that there. I didn't even know that. But yeah, when I read that, I'm like, that sounds very

Let the root.

It's like speak truth and love when you're talking with your employee, right? When you're talking with your customers, I'm not saying you have to love them, but  my mom, you know, it's an old proverb.

She used to always say, what comes out of your mouth is a reflection of your heart. What comes out of your mouth

It is and

of your art. That was,

that's why it says let the root of love be within you.  Yeah. Oh, that's that's really good  The next one go for it. Now. The future is promised to no one.

That's what I need to send to the woman that's put that in the chat.

Yes. There you go  There it is.

The next one. You cannot fail. You can only produce results. And then I like this. Jim Carrey, the comedian and actor, put it another way. You can fail at what you don't want. So you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.

Mm hmm

know,

Well, this is the one that you always say  you've said it you win or you

This, there is no failing. You either win or you learn from it and you move on. We've done it before flower cook. We've tried things and we've learned from them. And we're like, Oh, we're not going to try that again. And we move on,  you know, but you never know until you try.

This next one, you don't attract what you want.  You attract what you are,  which I thought was really interesting.

think that's true.  I think it's absolutely true.    Again, going back to what we've talked about, and we've talked about this even at SAF  at the convention  from a, Marketing branding standpoint, you're a brick and mortar store.  You're attracting people based on , the culture of your business, right?

If I'm walking into your business and I see that your employees are fun. , I'm going to call out Michelle Jones from Flowers by Michelle in Las Vegas.

There you go.

, we love them. They're clickers.  They're great.  Her sales manager, Emily, I adore her. Sheldon, they're all great.

You watch their TikToks.  They're having the time of their life.

I don't

All right, well their

I watch  Instagram.

of or the facebook whatever you watch their social media

I watch their social. I do. And they are fun.

And they are 100 percent That genuine and fun in person so you can literally see the Authenticness off of their social media like they're very real  They're funny, they're imperfect, which is what you're supposed to be. And so,  they attract  that. People want to come in to us imperfect, funny, happy people want to gravitate to those types of businesses.

And on the flip side, if you're a shop that  have that bad attitude. Those are the ones that are going to get the customers who are like that and complain all the time. And so that's why you really have to work hard to change that culture in your shop and the way you're reacting to everything that's happening to you because you're attracting that

Yes.

So if you're on that side, Ooh, that could be a dangerous place to be.

I'm on a, my neighborhood of course Facebook group and I never post on it, but boy, I love the drama. It's so exciting.  And I take it with a grain of salt, but , I thought of our Flower Click members.  And I was gonna talk about it in Shop Talk, but I'll talk about it here instead.

There was a. Group of people that were at a very nice high end steakhouse  and they got there fairly early and you can typically go into the bar area where there's tables, , anyway, they put in their name for a reservation.  Long story short.  They asked the hostess, like how much longer she was scrolling on her phone.

Now she wasn't holding it, but it was down like on the desk area scrolling. She looked up and she like gave them  out her hand for showed four or five. Like she didn't even talk. She was just like four or five, like looked at him and then went back to scrolling.  And there was like six of them.  At a very high end.

I mean, it's supposed to be a pretty high bill and they, they left.  And I'm like, wow,  I would murder my employee.

Employee. Oof.

do that. First of all, put the phone away.  You are the hostess at a, I mean, a minimum 85 a plate restaurant.  Put your phone away.

Oh, my gosh.

the numbers. Like, don't bother me.

Rude. So,

Bye bye. I'm gone. Yeah.

all over. It's worse than putting it on Google. They put it on local. So everybody like

Oh, that's worse. You're right.  Oh, gosh.  This next one is yours.

one. And it is so true  friends. Our God's way of apologizing for your family.  I just, I'm going to leave it at that. We are not going to dissect it. You and I know, and it's funny.

It is funny.

everybody that hears it has a sense of humor.  Cause you know what? We all have family stories

We

, that's why we all need friends and family.

You're going to have to have them

to have a little bit of both, right?

That's right  this next one you get treated in life the way you teach people to treat you  I just think that's so good   the world is a looking glass and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face  William Thackeray.

Mm hmm.

I think   managers really, this needs to be on a post it note  for them, because I think a lot of managers that have super kind hearts and well intentions.

Mm

Honestly struggle with this because, if you cannot establish  good boundaries and expectations at the very beginning with the employees, remember boundaries and expectations are for the business.

They're not for,

That's not personal.

This is what happened. So if you teach them,  it's okay to be late. She's not going to get mad. It's okay to have our phones out, even though the policy says no,  she's gonna just warn us, but she's not going to do anything or it's okay to have the one toxic employee that thinks they can always run over them because they're a good designer.

Like. We've heard so many stories. This is it. It starts with you, right? It starts with us.

The way you teach your people to treat you. Yeah,

And that's a tough one. I mean, it's really tough.  Again, it goes back to parenting. We teach our kids how to treat us. They know they're smart little suckers.  They know at an early age how to manipulate the system.  All right. The next one is, when you judge another, you do not define them. You define yourself.  I think.  truer words have ever been said. I've learned this later in my life.    In the last, I don't know, 20 years, when,  I have studied more about self awareness and tried to sit back and  be better at active listening, which we talk a lot about,

Right.

what  drives me away from people quicker than anything  is hearing them  talking and judging,  you know, like just random strangers.

Transcribed You know what I mean? Talking in a group , judging other people.  It scares me.

The gossip.

Well, and it scares me, honestly, in a group. 100 percent get,  we all do it. I am not saying I don't do it, but I'm saying when you are in a large crowd or big group  and people so easily  dive into it, you know what I'm talking about.

We've all been in those situations.

We've all been there. Yeah.

honestly, it's terrifying  because you're like, they do who,  wow.

Who's

Who's next? I will be next, you know? And , the whole scripture judge, not lest you be judged.  I think we really don't take that to heart enough because I think what scripture says there is like,  we're all gonna be judged.

I  think it's , not only God's going to judge us. I think. You judge other people, other people are going to judge you.

That's right.

around comes around, buddy. And so,

Yeah, that's one really to take to heart for sure.

tough. It's one of the hardest things in life to not do, right? Because when we judge others for a brief moment, , we usually are doing it because we think it's going to make us feel better about ourselves.

And that's what's really

it does for like a split second, and then it doesn't.

Yeah,  there's a few that we could just maybe go through because we're getting close to our end here. One that I'm just gonna mention is I'm realistic. I expect miracles.

That's so good. Yep.

I just think that's

good. That's a post it note.

There you go. It's a post

I love the next one. Conflict cannot survive without your participation.

Yes.

That you think about,

one to really think

yeah, especially coming up on an election year, that  that's good to think conflict's not going to survive if you don't participate.

Just,  just nod  and remember it's okay. It's okay to not engage.

So true.  This one's so true though. It's never crowded along the extra mile.

yeah, that one kind of reminded me of you because it's like there's two ways to get there. You work harder and faster  and you be consistent.  That's, that's a really good one.

it's a turtle

It is the turtle on the hair.  I love this one and I have used this one before. You don't need to be better than anyone else.

You just need to be better than you used to be.

I love that. So

And that reminds me of, , the, the dangers of comparison, constantly comparing yourself to others. You just need to be better than you used to be.  The more you learn, the better you should be.

So let's just finish up with this one. As you think, so shall you be.

It's true. If you think,

The whole universe, right? With those seven words,

if we think we're going to succeed, we will succeed. If we think we're going to fail, we're going to fail. If we think we're going A loser. We're going to act like a loser.  It's very true. , our mind is a powerful thing. So anyway, I hope at least one of these resonated with somebody.

And  if anyone listening wants this list, I am happy to make a little thing. Maybe I'll make a little document and have Ellie make an Instagram post, put these on there. That can be cute.

That'd be cute. That'd be really cute, but  well, thank you for these little thought

Yeah

One liners, you know, just really makes a

So, all right. Thanks guys for joining us today.
