It's like we're no longer the young company that, like, oh, maybe they'll work, maybe they'll fail. Like, not sure how to trust them. Now we're fully established. I mean, not that we weren't before.
SPEAKER_02Welcome to the business and pleasure of flowers. We're your hosts, Vonda LaFever.
SPEAKER_04And Lori Wilson. And we believe that business and fun are a perfect combination. Kind of like us, Vonda.
SPEAKER_02So, Lori, we're all here. It's the first of the year.
SPEAKER_04It is. It is the first of the year. It's the second of the year when we're recording this. Happy New Year to you too.
SPEAKER_02How was your New Year's Eve? It was good. It was really good. And someone said something to me when they walked in the door. And sometimes those things just hit you and you go, OMG. 25 years ago, we were all going, Oh my gosh, it's Y2K, what's gonna happen? Yes. And everybody was panic? Yes.
SPEAKER_04It's been 25 years, you guys. Insanity. Holy total insanity. And listener, she said, you guys, because we have Cammy and Ellie here. And so he's not insane, you guys, to me. You know what's crazy about that? I was thinking about that too. And I remember like my husband was on call. Cammy, you're nodding your head. Do you remember? Remember those days? Everybody was on like a phone tree ready in case computers were gonna go down. And there was this whole worst case scenario work thing. They had had meetings for it all. And I was at the time a stay-at-home mom with young kids, and I'm like, oh my gosh, you know, like, is my house gonna explode? Like, what's gonna happen? Right. And it just came and went, and the grocery store was still open the next day, and Walmart was, you know, like it was all good.
SPEAKER_02And and then we have LA here. Do you remember any of that? You were so young.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, I was pretty young. I remember it though. I don't remember the the stress of it, like you guys probably do. Yeah. What I think that equivalent for me is that 2020 was five years ago. Like the pandemic was five years ago. That to me is yeah for sure. Feels like we still are trying to get out of it and get back to life.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Um, but a little PTSD from all of that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, and see 2020 is when we started Flower Click, and so that was a perfect segue, Ellie.
SPEAKER_05That's right. It's like I know what I'm doing. Did you bake us a birthday cake? Not yet. I just got over all the Christmas baking. I will bake us a happy five years Flower Click birthday cake coming soon.
SPEAKER_02Five years, girls.
SPEAKER_04Perhaps, of course, pink.
SPEAKER_02Woohoo!
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04Wouldn't have it any other color. What flavor will you do? Oh, you know what? I learned on the TikTok last time. I saw it too. I think I saw the same cake.
SPEAKER_01What was it? It was a strawberry cake. Oh, sorry. Mine was like a wedding cake. Like dupe. Using using a boxed. Yes, yes. But then adding in these things. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Send it to me, girls. Send them to me. We gotta send it.
SPEAKER_04There was probably six TikToks yesterday, just in the day alone, that I almost sent to Ellie, but I was like, God, it's New Year's Day. I really cannot bombard her. There were different things. I was like, oh, I wish I could categorize my things.
SPEAKER_05You can that little bookmark. Collections. Yeah. In collections? Well, what I don't know what it's called in TikTok, but what? Yeah. Yes. You save and then you add to a category. Like an LE direct save.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I need an LE and a Cami save. Yeah. And not a Vonda because Vonda and everyone. I you know what? Here's the thing. Listener, here's a little fun fact about Vonda. One time I DM'd her on Instagram, like four months later, I referred back to that DM and she's like, What? I don't even like don't ever send her anything via DM or Facebook message or any sort of message. Speaking of which, she got hacked. Send her. Really don't send her anything. Don't send her anything. Don't send her anything unless you text it to her. And we watch it this way. Or send an email. Come on, just send me an email. Even then, it's 50-50 if she's gonna open it. So you just got an email. I open my email. No, I said text it if you text it to her. 50-50. She's gonna open the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01The link. Yeah. Sunny that you guys are talking brought up TikTok already and it's the new year. And actually, I haven't told anybody this out loud. So this seems like a really good time to share.
SPEAKER_04Confessional. Go for it.
SPEAKER_01One of my possible New Year's resolutions is to be on TikTok a little less, be on social media less. Oh, because I do believe it is causing some anxiety for me. Like I have gone down a weird rabbit hole. So you know how sometimes if you watch one in the algorithm, algorithm has me watching some sh things that are causing me anxiety. Really? Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And I think you gotta get out of the anxiety ones. I know. Don't allow it. Don't allow it.
SPEAKER_05Just have Lori send you some animals. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I get out of that. I need that. Quick.
SPEAKER_01I can tell. And before bed, I'll like be scrolling, and then I'm like, oh, that wasn't good for me.
SPEAKER_04Don't go down those rabbit holes. Yeah. Do not go down those rabbit holes. Here's the thing. Here's my advice. You stay on recipes. Yes. Stay on health hacks. Health. Well, I don't even go down there because then you can go down weird, weird, weird things too that aren't real health. I mean, you know, there's imposters out there too. Here's the thing. Animals are always safe. Funny babies. Yeah. Just show me the funny stuff. Always safe.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Or just get away from it. Or just well, here's the other thing. Old people are always funny. Always funny. Old people are pretty funny or endearing. Let's they're endearing. So you stay on the safe side. Flowers. Flowers are fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You and I have sent back and forth a couple of that do really great designs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So anyway. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I can help you with that.
SPEAKER_04Stay off the scary side.
SPEAKER_01Well, I started telling talking to Matt about some things, and he was like looking at me like, you're crazy. Yeah. Whatever you've been watching.
SPEAKER_04Don't go down.
SPEAKER_01You know what I mean? Like conspiracy. I can fall trapped to that really easily. You have to TikTok responsively.
SPEAKER_04You cannot. You must stay.
SPEAKER_05It might be gone in a couple weeks, right? For real.
SPEAKER_04For real. So what? I'm just being proactive. Yeah. And my husband has asked me, he's like, what are you gonna do if it's gone? I'm like, I'm gonna be okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. You know what's crazy?
SPEAKER_05It's okay. Lori, I I don't have anybody else but you to point at for this, but you know, you're on Instagram, like your explore page. Yes. Okay, so now it's obviously only wedding stuff. It's wedding dresses, it's rings, it's flowers, and it's like AI little hedgehogs or beavers or something that are like taking a bath and they're like they have big bellies and they're like patting their bellies. Yes. I got to what is that? It's probably me. I don't know. They're like cute. You've never seen it anywhere. You're the cutest interjected with wedding dresses and wedding stuff, and then these cute little AI I don't know what to call them. They're like little creatures and they got big bellies that are squishy and they're like and giving themselves a bath. And I just want them as pets. Lori, I I have to blame you for that. I know it, I'm sure it's me because I left. And the thing is, I sit and watch them because well, I made the mistake of opening one, and I'm like, what is this thing? And then they thought that I liked that. So now I have them all. But no, she must be Lori's friend. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's so weird. There's all right, girls, I'm reining it back in, you know, because that's usually what you do. Here we go. Here we go. Back into it. Our anniversary. And so we have a couple things we have to do. Lori's deal, which we always have to do a word of the year. But also, I just thought it would be great to hear from each of us what you think were two things that stuck out of from last year. They could be wins, challenges. We've overcome surprises, or some type of direction going forward. And Ellie's laughing.
SPEAKER_05Overcome surprises. Overcome surprises. How did I overcome surprises?
SPEAKER_02Challenges we've overcome, or surprises. Let me clarify.
SPEAKER_05There you go. Perfect. So we each are gonna share two to the class. Yes. Is this the class? Okay, to the class. Well feels like it.
SPEAKER_04Feels like the classroom. So you gave this to us last night. I did.
SPEAKER_00Last night as I went from the teacher.
SPEAKER_04Right, which I applaud you for giving it to us last night. But here's the thing. I saw it a little bit ago. So but I will say Cammy, because she is the most studious person here, probably saw it the minute you posted it and did homework and studied and sued over it. So she was probably the only one you are not looking at. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05You look oh Ellie. I took a bath. I saw it before my bath and I reflected. I am my first bath of the year.
SPEAKER_04You are the only one. I am the only one reflect. So you get to go last. That's basically what I was alluding to. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01I think you're also the best at flying off, you know. Yeah, flying off the handle. No, flying off the handle. No, the cuff, the cuff.
SPEAKER_04Swing it. Swinging it. Yeah. So one of one of you two shall go first.
SPEAKER_05I'll go first so that because I feel like maybe Cammy and I are maybe similar, but maybe not. Okay. The first item is that I was just reflecting on the year and like in the beginning of the year, I feel like we had, well, obviously we had next gen conference, and then we had a few in the summer. It was like conference heavy. I feel like we were out and about more than the Q4. And during that time, I do feel like when we would go to events, people kind of knew us. And if they didn't know us personally, they were familiar with us instead of this anonymity. So we were just kind of, you know, we were out and about and people knew us. And that felt good to feel like, oh, they know Flower Click. I think that's so true. And then the second thing, as I reflected on how I felt exactly a year ago, was I feel like the first week of the year last year was super chaotic. We were all, I don't know what it was, but it was like it was still December, but yet it was supposed to feel like a new year and it wasn't. Whereas this year, like we do have our ducks in a row starting off. We have a plan, we have things scheduled, we have a system. One of the goals last year, especially with UKami, was like that calendar, that master calendar that has absolutely everything on it. And so this year feels more intentional now. And I think throughout the year, we kind of put those systems in place and the plan, and we're not scrambling, and we can take a breath and work with intention and deliberately rather than being reactive.
SPEAKER_01I love that. So those are mine. Those are really good. Yeah. It is. And I actually thought of that, but that wasn't what I was gonna add. I do feel like we are falling into a cycle in a system, and I like that. Like, cause it is the the floral business does have cycles, right? And so we've got our internal cycles too. But I think we've done a good job of cross-training our employees better to prepare for those cycles. So to kind of piggyback on that, I'm really proud of that because though maybe our members don't see it, there's often times where we are like maybe working more hours than we intended or scrambling to make sure we get the deadlines that we set and that we need to have done. And now this last year, we did a really good job, I think, of having employees cross-strained so they can jump in where needed. So I'm really proud of that. It's a good one. And then I have because Vonda's when she asked that question, she said, you know, wins, challenges, surprises, or something that gave us direction moving forward. And I come to that piece because I feel like the direction moving forward. So I was reflecting back to, you know, the the early days, there were so many directions that we wanted to go and so much that we could do, which is a good problem to have, right? Um, not to brag, but we have a very capable and diverse team. We can bring a lot, you know, to help to help. Right, okay. You should bring it up. I mean, we do. And we had as a newer company, though we said we're not for everyone, we had our moments of trying to be everything to all people. And this last year, I just am thinking how we had several companies and even larger shops approach us and ask for certain services that were a little outside of our regular package and scope. And we took on a few things. And I think taking on those things gave us clarity of what we are really good at and where we need to stay the course. We walked away going, we are really good at these things. This is the lane we need to stay in. I don't know. I think that's just normal being a new company, kind of going, where can we help? What can we do? You know, and we knew the overall goal, but I I believe now we're like laser focused, you know, on exactly what we're doing.
SPEAKER_05I love that one. That's such a good reflection of we learned so much last year with doing those projects or things that were outside of our scope, which then kind of created like a ripple effect throughout everything else that we were doing. And to kind of rein it back in and know exactly our focus and direction and where our all of our strengths lies as a whole, as the flywheel that keeps it in motion, I think was good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It was good. And there were some times where we were like, we shouldn't have taken that on. And but then it gave us clarity, like, okay, moving forward, you know?
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I think also moving forward, we did find a few little niches that were like, oh, now this might be something because of what we discovered we shouldn't be outside of this lane. Oh, this is something that would work. Yes. And so it really did. I think that word clarity is really good because it really did clarify those things for us. I agree. One of the things I'm really proud of is that these last few months, more than any, we've had members referring us to their friends who think, oh my gosh, they need flower click. I mean, it's like that dream, right? It's like you just do it because we're helping others. And then they were like, you know, I was having a conversation with so-and-so, and they wanted to know about a website or something, and we were giving really information with no cost, but then they could see they wanted to be a part of us. I I just think that is so cool. That's just exciting. That, like you said, Ellie, with the brand awareness, and because I I've had that on mine too, is that when Lori probably and Cammy are having those conversations, people aren't saying, Well, I've never heard of Flower Click. You know, it's like, oh yeah, I've heard of you. Oh, Lori always gets someone, oh my gosh, I I listen to your podcast, right? You sound just like you do on your podcast.
SPEAKER_05You're famous, you're talking to me. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. It's like we're no longer the young company that, like, oh, maybe they'll work, maybe they'll fail, like, not sure how to trust them. Now we're fully established. I mean, not that we weren't before, but from uh a vantage point, we're we're official.
SPEAKER_02Thank goodness.
SPEAKER_05Five years under our belt. Hopefully people know that we're here to stay, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, for sure. Hey Lori, cover up. I was reading what you said, and you said we know to think of two things. They can be wins, challenges that we had or that we overcame, something that gave us direction, whatever. So when I was thinking about this, what came up for me was really like something more for myself personally work related, and then something more team related that I noticed. So the first one, the challenge and the surprise was thinking about next gen when I spoke at Nextgen this year. And during that time when I was asked, I was like, yeah, sure, that's great. But during that time was a very challenging time in my life, as you guys know. And I honestly didn't think I'd get through it, but I did. And it went really well and better than what I thought it was going to. And and of course, I I believe that was God and Ellie. Those are the two things I contribute that to is God and Ellie in those moments. And that was my first time to actually come up with content by myself when Ellie didn't even look at the slides, she didn't want to look at the slides and Fonday, you'll remember, you know, and I didn't want her to. And so she got to be for the first time up just in the audience. And and I get emotional because that was so special for me to be able to gift her that, because she never gets that opportunity. And so that was all of those adjectives you put in there. That was a challenge, it was something overcame and it was a surprise, and it was all of those cool things. Um, because I had no way of knowing how that was gonna go, but it went, and and thank God it went. So that was went so well, a huge moment that that I made it through without passing out on that stage.
SPEAKER_05Um also I feel like the audience, like because you'd spoken before, even though this was only you, yeah, you felt safe. And those people, like if you just speak in another language, they will listen to every word. Yeah, like they really appreciate. I think that audience is safe for you, and it and they and to that, I mean, the content that you delivered on empathy really touched everybody. And so maybe because you were in kind of a difficult place mentally as well, that probably helped you speak even more emotionally in Ron, like, well, I have nothing to lose. I got nothing to lose. Here I am.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, exactly. And it was all of those things together, and just seeing all of those faces of people that I love so much. Um, and just lit waiting, go, what's she gonna talk about? You know, it was just so great. And then the other thing that for me, I guess this could be selfish too, was thinking about we got to be together physically this year, our team for the first time in five years. Yeah, and even though I know what everybody does on the team, now I truly know what everybody does, right? And and to be able to do our little quizzes virtually is one thing, but to actually see physically how people align with their personality styles, and for me, it's so important to know like, oh my gosh, like Denise is in her spot, like truly, this is her God-given spot. This is where she thrives, and this is where Leslie, like, she's where she needs to be. For some weird reason, that gives me such comfort in knowing they're in their space. You know, they don't want my space, and I don't want their space, you know, and that's important. For me. So those were two really big pivotal moments for me in 2024. It just gave me a lot of affirmation. And wow, our company is amazing. Like we're really doing good things because when we're in the right spots and when we're achieving these challenges, like that's how we grow. And I that goes back to our 2024 word, right? It was grow. And that's what we did.
SPEAKER_05It is. But I think on the outset, on last year, when we did this, we were thinking hit the ground running and grow. It wasn't just growing, it was the pains first. Right. And then really the growth. I mean, even three days ago, last day of the month, Lori, you closed two new members, which we never would have thought would happen. But because we've had all these systems in place, we have this flywheel going. So it wasn't the immediate growth, but it was the growth. Right.
SPEAKER_04Well, and that word takes on so many different definitions, right? Because yeah, we grew in numbers a lot, but like internally, ways too. And I think Cammy, you did too, and your team did.
SPEAKER_01So speaking of growth, we reached our membership goal for the end of the year. And not to be a negative Nancy, but I didn't speak it out loud, but I didn't think that we were gonna hit that goal. I thought it was kind of a lofty goal. I'm always kind of that way here. I'm like, oh but I I didn't, and we hit it. So that was really kind of made it all the more sweet to me because I didn't think we could do it. Right. So yeah. Jonna and I did just so I know that's why you're where you're at. You've got to yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was growth and but I like the word clarity because we really did achieve a lot of clarity with the organization, with the people that we uh like you said, Lori, got to meet face to face, which was fabulous. And to be able to do that after almost five years to that point. And it was just it was exciting. So then does that bring us to what the word will be for 20? I can't believe we're in 2025.
SPEAKER_04I can't that sounds so like uteristic. It really does. It just 2025 sounds like we should be living in space.
SPEAKER_05No, I mean yeah, the jets of flying cars, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It just sounds well, those are coming too, so you know the flying tax is what they're all lying, on their way. Craziness. Yeah, so we had a few words that we were throwing around, but I think Ellie has the winner. Should we talk about it? Yeah, I'll just talk about it.
SPEAKER_04Because I got one I'm gonna throw in the hat. Okay. I'll throw one in. It's probably not gonna win. It's probably for me personally, but I'm gonna throw it in.
SPEAKER_05I'll just go. When I saw Lori, you said we gotta think about our word. And given that last year's was grow and thinking about business goals for this year, I thought of the word amplify. I'm thinking of a megaphone. I'm thinking of not just hey, everybody know about flower click, but like amplifying our message, amplifying all of the knowledge that we have to share with people and what that looks like. Yeah. So that's my word. I like it. I like it too.
SPEAKER_04I think what are you gonna throw in there, Lori? Well, the word I have been mulling over, but I think this is more for me personally, honestly, is the word focus. It's it's a word that I want to do use for my job too. I want to spend more time. I just and Cammy, maybe you feel this way too sometimes in your job, just more like squirrel, squirrel, squirrel. 100%. Yeah, and and what I find it puts me in a bad mood. It gives me anxiety. Yeah, yeah. But I start feeling like I was looking for a pair of scissors a few weeks ago, and it was during the day. My husband was already home. It was late in the afternoon because you know, husbands get off early, whatever that kind of craziness is. They just decide they're done and they're done. Anyway, I was so annoyed because the scissors weren't put back where they were supposed to be. There are only two of us here. One of us always puts his scissors back anyway, and I'm like, you know, come on. So but I was more angry about it than one should be. Right. But it's because I just type of stuff.
SPEAKER_01And I'm like, I actually really like where you're going with that because well, it ties back to what I said earlier, like that we I do feel like we have clarity and we need to focus on what we do well, and we know what that is, you know? So I had written down the word intentional, but that kind of aligns with focus.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's the same type of thing, but I'm like, I have to focus better, and I have to not feel super bad about oh my god, I gotta grab that phone and stop immediately researching this interesting article that I want to learn about that betters our company because I want to, you know what I mean, those kind of things. Like I gotta do better, and only I can do better at that. No one can. I mean, Vonda and Ellie can tell me all day long stop. But only I can make that decision.
SPEAKER_05So and I think you need to be less hard on yourself about that because it is like a product of notification culture where we have notifications here, we have no on our watch, we have notifications on our phone, we have notifications on our computer. I mean, when Von and I were sitting there on Monday working in together, like the Slack messages, they would both come through on our computers and they both come through on our phones. Yeah, yeah. So like four notifications for one text bubble. Slack. Like that kind of thing alerts your attention and so it like it trickles into real life. And then your brain just gets wired that way to like where you have to drop things and go. And so yeah, it's it's hard. It's hard. It's a lot. You're right. So that's a good that's a good one for all of us to really. Yeah, I think everybody can use some focus and just being intentional. I've been doing do not disturb because you get notifications every minute of every day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. The one I have is aware, not for the company, but personally. Just be more aware of my reactions of what I'm seeing and really take it in.
SPEAKER_04Aware's a good one for you.
SPEAKER_02Aware.
SPEAKER_04I think that's a good one for you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You're aware, but you and I have talked about that. You're so, and I mean this all in a good way. You're so you are focused. Hyper focused. You're hyper-focused because like you can go down. I always think, yeah, you can do. I always think of a production line of design. You can do every single part of that production line. You don't need anybody else on that production line. Yeah, well, that's not true, but you know what I mean. Like you can do all of that, but sometimes you need to look up, right? And you're like, I'm like, that girl that she's there, you know. So I love that.
SPEAKER_02I think that's yeah, that's the one that spoke to me as a way of this year.
SPEAKER_05I think you and I have this same thing where you're like, you have an idea in your mind, you have this track that you're on. And then so Tyler and I had not to get a little personal, but Tyler and I had like one thing we want to work on for each other. And his was don't drop the hammer so fast on me because he'll say something, and because I'm already a step ahead of him, I already know. And I'm just like, no, we can't do that, or no, I want this. Like I drop the hammer too fast. I'm not taking into consideration his thought about this too, and that's his idea, you know? And so I think for you as well, like you're on this hyper focused track, and it's not just always being aware, but when you're aware that second, then it's like you react in a way or I react in a way.
SPEAKER_04That's that's really good. Don't drop the hammer. I'm gonna use that on my husband. He's like the two of you. He is Fonda. That's good. Well, can I mean so your word is intentional? Is that what you're doing?
SPEAKER_01Actually, my personal word, I listed out some of my goals and I plugged it into AI and said, What should my word be? And yeah, so I just listed out my things and it gave me back several ideas, but the one I liked best was renew. So renew. Yes. One of the things I've asked my daughters to start doing, but I'm going to do it as well, is a gratitude journal, which I know is kind of probably three years ago.
SPEAKER_04I no, I don't gratitude.
SPEAKER_01Never, never we need it, especially after the holiday and the excess that happens, you know, at Christmas with 15-year-old daughters, and just that like air of entitlement that kind of can come with that age and and even that negative mentality. Gratitude journal is one of the things. So I think renewing my mind, of course, health. You know, I'm gonna stay on a health journey. This is one of the first few years I haven't started out going, I want to lose 15 pounds. Like I love that. That makes me looking back on how it's more just renew and keep the health journey going, keep keep that renewed, cook more, eat out less, you know, those kinds of things. So renew. Yeah, renew. That's good. That's good. And less time on social media. I am gonna may maybe not be as responsive to our members through Facebook because I I find it can really drag me down. Yeah. Well, and you bamp them to text you through your my work phone or email or yeah, or email. Do you ever do the um time limits? I need to. I think that's a good idea to set some boundaries because it is like something that's enjoyable, or at least you start out thinking it's going to be enjoyable, you know, your downtime scrolling or whatever.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But if you had just like a you know, however much long and then it'll lock you out after that.
SPEAKER_04Go back to reading your books.
SPEAKER_01Reading, I'm still listening. I do a lot of audiobooks, and then of course, I have a re a Bible reading plan, and my kids are at the age too where we're doing at that together. So yesterday was January 1st, and all three of them sent me a screenshot of the check mark, you know, that they did it. And so I love that we're able to hold each other accountable and have similar goals. This is kind of the first time they've been the age where we would have the same goals, you know. So cute.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, renew. Not to change the subject, but I have a voicemail from someone named Steve that is wanting to buy gardenias for his aunt. Sure.
