I'm like, what am I doing? They're a dad gum adult. Let them. If they're gonna act like this, not my problem.
SPEAKER_02Welcome to the business and pleasure of flowers. We're your hosts, Vonda LaFever and Lori Wilson.
SPEAKER_03And we believe the business and fun are a perfect combination. Kind of like us, Vonda. Good morning, Vonda. Hey Lori, what's happening? Well, I'm drinking my coffee from my Nespresso maker. Ooh, from you. So Santa brought me one too. Nice. I love it. I love it. It's my little treat. I find it's my one morning treat.
SPEAKER_02I found that after I had my Nespresso, I didn't need more than one cup of coffee.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, no, no, no. As a matter of fact, my husband still makes the pot because he's a 150-year-old man. So he likes not either. Poor Mark. He makes it because my dad's still here for another week. So he drinks it too. And so when I get up, I'll have like a half a cup of that. And then 10-ish, I'll make myself an espresso. Okay. So it's my nice little treat. Nice treat, yes, for sure. So speaking of my dad, Life with Lenny, my new vlog. Oh, I love it. Life with Lenny. Life with Lenny. So this weekend we had an incident which, you know, Ellie keeps telling me I should do a vlog or I should do a reality show or I could do something because, as everybody knows, he has Alzheimer's. And if you don't laugh, you cry, right? And so we choose to laugh because crying gets you nowhere right now. Every day, as you know, we've been going to his new place. We found him a place and he's moving next week there. But every day we go and we take a few things to his new apartment. Well hold on. Like one day he took a trash can. One day we took a big thing of toilet paper. Like, you know, small things because we're not doing the big move yet. Just reasons to go, practice with a key, all of the stuff. Find his apartment. He goes up a one flight of stairs down the second floor, everything's good. So on Saturday, he and Mark and I were gonna go. We were gonna go there, sit for a few minutes, because there's nothing to do in his apartment because there's lawn furniture, because we could carry that and there's no TV. But then we're gonna go to Target to get a few things, and then we're gonna come home. That was our big outing for the day. Okay, gotcha. So we get all ready and he's always excited to go. And we get in the car. We literally were back in the car out, and Mark is like, Oh, do you have the keys to his apartment? I was like, Oh, shoot, let me run in and get them. So I run in, go to where we hang all keys. They're not there. They're not there. Oh no. You knew you know where those stories go. And I'm like, well, shoot. So I run back to the car because I'm like, well, they got to be in the car because we were just there yesterday. We look in the car, not there. Look in my purse, not there. I'm like, Mark, who locked it yesterday? Because we were all there yesterday, too. Not none of us have memory at this point. Your dog wasn't the only one without a memory, right? Because just it's just discombobulation. So, anyway, we turn off the car, we go in, we're looking in our clock, we're looking through everybody our clothes. The whole time my dad's still sitting in the car, probably like, where'd they go? Like, what's going on? You know, this goes on for an hour. And your dad's still in the car. Well, about 40 minutes in, I go out because it's raining right now. And I go out and I'm like, Daddy, get out of the car. We can't find the keys. What keys? I'm like, the keys to your apartment. We can't find them. I went and looked through all the clothes he wore the day before. I'm like digging through every laundry. I dug through the kitchen trash everywhere. So I call out there because I'm retracing our steps. Right. And I'm thinking, okay, I usually give him the key and say, now lock the door. And he locks it. And I usually take the key from him. But sometimes in my mind, I'm like, I need to let him keep the keys because he's gonna have to. And it's got one of those little spirally bracelet things on there that you put your wrists like what first graders have. So all the seniors there have those. But I couldn't remember if I had him keep it or not. Because again, I probably am in the early stages of this thing. Disease, I don't know. I don't want to know at this point. Right. So, what I do remember is we went downstairs and they have an automatic coffee maker, and we always go to it because it's a little tricky. You have to push two buttons. And so we always go over to it and we practice that too. Did we put the keys there? I know. So I call over there, the man that's working, it was not a lot of help. He was a substitute, he checks the loss and found. I don't see any keys. So we drive out there. Mark's like, get in the car, we're gonna drive out there. He retraces our steps. We are now in over two hours. We didn't find anything. He even sees a couple of the women. We met Mary Helen again. He asks, Mary Helen, have you happened? He we met a new lady named Bertha the day before. Lovely lady. She's moving in this month, too. Gonna be my dad's friend. She also cooks, gonna help my dad out on days that they don't have food. She doesn't remember seeing any keys either. We are in trouble because I'm like, this is embarrassing because we're not even moved in and we've lost the damn keys. Like, don't you have a spare? Didn't they give you two? Yes, Bonda. Yes, they did. But I haven't divided them up yet. I haven't divided them up yet. Oh no, Lori. And in my mind, I'm like, you know, I need to separate these keys. I need to separate these keys. I need one. And I need to put an Apple Air tag on my dad so I can find so all of these things have run through my mind. I just haven't done them yet. Because I didn't think we'd be losing keys this early on. Right. Because we haven't even freaking moved in yet. So we stay in the car and Mark goes in. Which made me mad because I'm a better looker. I didn't trust his looking, but he didn't give me the choice. He came back, no keys. Let's go. So we go to Target. I was mad because I'm going in my mind. I need to go home. I need to empty the outside trash can. I need to get on gloves. You know, the whole thing. We didn't find what we needed at Target, which was a whole nother story. We go next door to TJ Maxx to look to see if we can find what we need there. I sit my dad in a chair in the front because they have seating. Because by this point, he's worn out. I don't know why. He's done nothing, but he's just worn out. It's just been a long day of sitting. So he's like, I'm worn out. So I said him, like, Daddy, you sit right in the front. I go in the back. I look up and I see him and Mark up at the front talking, and they both hate TJ Maxx, my favorite store. Right. I don't so we get up, and next door is Ross. We're looking for a dark purple shirt, if you must know, because we have to go to this stupid football game in their dark purple. Okay. Listeners, that that color is not in style right now. Just so everyone knows. We get back to the car and I look down in my console. The keys are right there. They're sitting right there. I look at Mark and I just say, What the hell? What the hell? Because they weren't there. And he said, Don't get mad. Your dad had them in his pocket. Your dad had him in his pocket. Yep. The whole time. The whole time. The whole time. We're now at an hour three.
SPEAKER_02Yep, Lori.
SPEAKER_03The whole time. And I was surprised. But the thing is, those weren't the jeans he wore the day before. How he got the key. I said, Daddy, when did you put him in your pocket? I don't know. I said, when we were looking for the keys. And the whole time Mark's hitting me, he's like, stop asking me. He doesn't know. He doesn't know. And I'm like, oh my God, what am I asking? So anyway.
SPEAKER_02It's okay, Lori. I know. But I was like, lessons from Lenny too.
SPEAKER_03Lessons from life and Lenny and patience.
SPEAKER_02And and I can just tell your blood pressure was like going.
SPEAKER_03Well, I was beating myself up because I could feel Mark blaming me and I'm blaming him. Oh well, I know he lost them. And he's like, oh, I know she lost him. Yes. And that doesn't do anybody any good. No. And then my dad, I felt bad because he's like embarrassed. Sure. You know he was. And he's like, I don't know how they got in my pocket. I don't know where the and so he probably had them up on his dresser. And just picked him up. Yeah. Picked him up. But the whole time we're looking for him, sitting in his pocket.
SPEAKER_02Well, so what is our lesson on that? Listeners, like we mentioned last week, we're not going to do a vision board. We're changing to do a bingo card. Lori had this great idea, and I think it's fabulous because I can do a bingo card. I cannot do a vision board. Right. And so we are going to talk about bingo cards. So maybe there's something on your bingo card that relates to that.
SPEAKER_03Yes, there's a big thing. And I'll start with the biggest thing.
SPEAKER_02Before you share that great big thing that is on there, I have to tell you that it was a little tough for me to do a bingo card only because I get a little bit anxiety about bingo. Because as a good Catholic, we had to do bingo for part of our responsibility for a parent in Catholic schools. So once a month, you had to sign up for bingo. You had to be there to watch the bingo players and to walk through and make sure they have their cards and their daubers, and people have to put out the fights when they're yelling about, oh, she cheated. Oh no. My God. Once a month, and there was one side of the room at the Casey Hall that was filled with smoke. And I could not do it because I I truly. So I was always given, thank God, the side without the smoke. So bingo cards did give me a little bit of an anxiety or a flashback. Sure. So yeah. But there's hilarious. There's no smoke-filled rooms. There's no people yelling about their daubers and having they have all the little good luck charms right in front of them. It's a whole new world. So that's hilarious. Yep. So that's my little bingo card anxiety. So it's triggering.
SPEAKER_03It's triggering me. It's my trigger.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03So what is your big one on there? Well, this might be a good one for you, then. One of the main ones, and speaking of my dad, and speaking of just just things for me that I've been recognizing in my life, is there's a book by Mel Robbins that I'm going to give a shout-out. Tracy Park, I know you're listening. She's the one that turned me on to Mel Robbins podcast a long time ago. But she wrote a book called Let Them. And a lot of it is really relinquishing control. Um and of what you can't control. And that is what I wrote on the top of the just let them, like, let them. I can't just let them. One example that something I do a lot, and I've done it with raising my kids, is trying to control, like, let's say your child is small and you're trying to get him or her to talk to an adult, and they're a little bit shy, and you're like, oh, and you're making excuses for them, whatever. I've found myself sometimes doing that in their adulthood. Oh, yeah, yeah. You know, we all do. And I'm like, what am I doing? They're a dad gum adult. Let them. If they're gonna act like this, not my problem. But it's hard because I still feel responsible for that. You know what I mean? And so that's a big one for me. And that's gonna be a hard one if I'm gonna be really vulnerable. Like that's a big one.
SPEAKER_02Because you have to sit and listen and have some.
SPEAKER_03I have to relinquish that control of let them act however they're gonna act, or whatever's gonna happen to my dad is gonna happen to my dad, or whatever, you know, whatever the scenario is, yeah, or however they're gonna think about me, I can't control that. Like whatever the scenario is, let them. Because I can't control it. That's really good. Let them. That's a big, big that should be like my entire bingo. Yeah. Yeah. But it's really hard. Like people don't have to understand my reason why of anything, or if they think a certain way, let them. So that's good.
SPEAKER_02You know what? I went down this path of first, I did my bingo card. Like I said, oh, it's done. It took me a while, but I really thought through what I wanted on my bingo card. And then yesterday you and I were talking a little bit, and you're saying, oh, but this one is work related, and this one's not work-related. And I didn't have anything on my bingo card that was work-related. So I created another bingo card that's about work-related things. So I have two bingo cards, Lori. One that is personal and one that is FC.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wow. Well, I'm sorry. I don't have a whole lot.
SPEAKER_02Well, you have more spots on your bingo card though. Oh, yeah, I do. I do. I just have nine, like a regular bingo card is, you know, so that you have that middle one. I have to get the middle one because I and I didn't want to go with way too many because I have two.
SPEAKER_03So you're gonna kind of go off of both of them a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and some of them I'm not even gonna say because no, you don't need to.
SPEAKER_03Right. I think that's important too. And I want people to know that your bingo card is your bingo card. Right. I don't think that's the point. Just like your vision board. A lot of people create their vision board and we you hang it up in your closet. Right. Because you don't want anybody else to see you.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I mean, right, it's for you. It really doesn't matter. Hold on, Lori. We're gonna take a quick break to hear a message from Ellie.
SPEAKER_00Hey clickers, are you a floral professional 45 years or under, eager to elevate your career? Do you have an employee that you really want to build into in 2025? So what's one thing on one of your bingo cards?
SPEAKER_02So one of my bingo cards is just ongoing health and fitness. Like kind of I slipped a little, but now I get to get back into it and it's ongoing. And I didn't say daily routine because we talked to somebody the other day, Odonna, she was saying, you know, don't set yourself up for failure. And if I would have said exercise six days a week, blah, blah, blah. No, just ongoing, you know, start with make sure you're doing it four days or whatever it is.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, yeah, that's yeah, I I prioritize sort of the big thing. That's one of yours. One of mine is, and this is gonna sound strange, but there's a story behind it. There's actually research behind it. I put be bored, be bored, and that means don't have your phone, don't have anything. And I was reading about how we're overstimulated so much, and I know for me I am because I'm always on some form of technology because of work, or just when I'm not working, I'm on a phone, or there's there's something blaring all the time. And I know it's harder and harder for me to sit down and actually read a book or just look up at nature, or go put set in the grass, or you know, that type of thing. And the article, it truly was an article. It was on our medium thing that it was talking about. The only way to start learning to do that again is boredom. Boredom is important. And I started thinking back on how I learned to do all those things was like how I used to love to look at clouds was in the backseat of the car on long drives when there's nothing else to do. You're looking up and you're like, oh, look, mom, there's a clown or there's a train. Like you're making up your stories with your imaginations because you're bored, but you're stimulating your brain. Yeah, that's really good. I have got to be bored more. I have to do this so I can be more creative, right, in my life and in my job. Like I'm missing that link there. And so I want to take time to be bored.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Because I would phrase that a little differently. I would say time to sit in this classroom of silence. Sure. Same type of thing, right? Now, Matthew Kelly always talks about that, about balance in your life, and a lot of it is have that classroom of silence because then you can look up to see at night, I can see the stars and the moon and how beautiful it is. But sometimes you're right, we don't take that time to be bored.
SPEAKER_03Going back to my first story about losing the keys, the other part when my dad and I were sitting in the car, and Mark was inside. The other part of that whole scenario is I left my phone at home when we were doing it on accident. And we're halfway there, and I'm like, Oh, crap, I left my phone at home, you know, because and Mark's like, You're gonna survive. It's Saturday, it's okay. I have my phone. And so we're sitting in the car with my dad, and I'm constantly looking, like, where's my phone? And I'm like, okay, this is my opportunity to be bored, right? And so we just talked, and I thought, he is probably so happy I'm not sitting up here scrolling, right? He doesn't scroll, he's got a flip phone, like he doesn't, you know. And I thought, this is I have to do this more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. No, that's great. That's great. So let's share a couple more and then let's just give our clickers some tips on what to really include in that board. All right, all right, give me some of yours. This one, people will probably be surprised because they probably already think I have this, and then I'm going to look for a cleaning lady. It is about time, Vonda. I haven't had one since my children were young. I mean, I've had once in a while, have someone come in, but I know that's just a little thing, maybe to some people. It is huge, and my relinguish that because I actually do enjoy cleaning.
SPEAKER_03I know you do, I know you do, but it is to free. Free up your time to be able to go do other things.
SPEAKER_02Because everybody knows in my household that Saturday is domestic day. That's what we call it.
SPEAKER_03Right. Yeah. But to free up your Saturday to be able to go do nine holes of golf. Right. So go back to your health. Yep. You know, mental physical health or do enjoy something. I love that. Okay, here's one. You might be surprised about this. Okay. Not surprised that I haven't done it, but surprising. I have on mind to take a solo vacation. Ooh. That's interesting, Lori. Scary. I have never gone on a trip, even a work trip by myself. I mean, like I've traveled to a work trip and met somebody, but I have never gone on a trip alone. And I am challenging myself. And I mean, it might even be a drivable weekend. I don't know. I'm just like, I should. But my best friend Julia, who you know, and I met her when I was five, I was telling her about it and through our video calls. And she videoed me back and she was like, Oh my God, that is such a great idea. I want to go. And then she's like, Oh, wait, wait. It's a solo. But still, I've known you since I was four, so sort of I could still go. And I was like, You totally could go because we're kind of one person. But anyway. It was funny. She's like, interesting.
SPEAKER_02And that kind of goes with your boredom.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Right now. You're not going to be busy, busy, busy. No. And it's a challenge, it's challeng pushing my it's challenging myself. Like, can I do it? And then the board. Right. So I don't know. That was a scary one to write. I'll be really honest. It is the very last one I put on here. It was the first one in my mind. But it is the last one I put in writing. Because it's it's scary to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I have a couple on here that are scary. And yeah, it's just like, can I do that? And yeah. I don't know. And some of them are just like a to-do, like, oh, I really need to do that. It's a constant reminder. So, what suggestions do we have for all our listeners to the clickers about what should be on that bingo card?
SPEAKER_03Well, for me, everything I put on here, I know, first of all, I'm not gonna beat myself up if I don't do it. Okay. Okay, good. Also, everything on here on my card is achievable. That's what I was just gonna say. All of mine are achievable. But it's not like travel the world in 80 days. Like, you know, it's not some grandiose, out of crazy thing, like one of my work things. Create more content for flower click, not more pro like me personally. I want to do more presentations, I want to come up with more ideas to spark more creativity, that type of thing. That's doable, right? That's something, a personal goal for me in work. That's not something you imposed on me. That's not something it's something in me. I think on your bingo card needs to be something every time you look on it. For me, at least one or two things pop out as a reminder of, oh, I want to do that. Yes, like I agree. Desire, I agree. Like decrease scroll scroll time. There you go. Like, yeah, I'm gonna put that phone down and I'm gonna go stand outside in the grass with my bare feet. Because then one links to the other. Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02I also put my word of the year on my bingo card, on my work bingo card. So I have two. I have the personal one and the work one. And on my work one, which we shared last week, was my word is aware. So I need that on my bingo card because then I'm constantly looking at that. I'm like really good. Oh, oh yeah, okay. Yeah, yeah, that's really good. Yeah. Otherwise, it's really easy just to forget what that word was. And yes, and if it's something that you really want to work on, I I just felt that I needed to have it like in my face. But I agree, they need to be achievable. It's like, oh, I can do these things, and and I like the bingo card because I don't feel like I have to hide that in the closet. I don't know if people would see this. Right.
SPEAKER_03I agree. I I think it's good. You know, I think it would be fun if I had a flower shop and I have employees. I think it would be fun to do a team bingo card for the shop, like a shop bingo card. What you envision for the store for 2025. And have everybody contribute. Everybody contribute. Yeah. I think that could be a really great team building. And we should have thought about that for Flower Click at the beginning. We should have done like a bingo card, maybe our next staff meeting, all staff meetings. What's one vision each one of us have, and everybody gets one little square? That would be really cool. And we put it up and see if it comes to fruition. That's a really good idea. Yeah. Everybody a little skin in the game. And we talk about that in every leadership presentation, the importance of everybody having that feeling of I have say in this business. Yeah, it makes a huge difference.
SPEAKER_02And it would be a difference. Yeah. And then that person, whoever put that on the card, is gonna really see that that can be achieved. That's their personal goal, you know.
SPEAKER_03That's their goal. Well, and especially when they see other people trying to achieve it too, they're like, hey, I I did that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I added that one. I mean, that makes you feel good when you're contributing. So, my ongoing question that I've asked you is what happens if you really get a bingo on your bingo card? You have to give yourself a bonus. You have to give yourself a bonus, yes. So, what is that bonus? So if not only are you achieving your bingo card, but then you get something to reform. If I achieve everything on here, well, you can just do a row, it doesn't you don't have to say the whole that's what's that called? A blackout. That's a blackout. I do a blackout, yeah.
SPEAKER_03If I did a blackout, I'm gonna go here's what I'm gonna do. Okay, go to a spa retreat. Do a spa retreat. Okay, I've never been to a spa retreat, like an overnight place.
SPEAKER_02Have you? No, it that sounds like torture to me. Does it? Oh, I couldn't do it.
SPEAKER_01Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_02I can't do them. I I have a hard time getting a massage unless I have like like when I have sciatica, I'll get a massage. But it always, I'm not the massage girl. I you know, I can pedicure, manicure, love, love, love. But spa. Yeah. Sorry.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if I am or not, because I've never been to one. But do you like a massage? I think I do. I haven't had enough of them. No, I had a really good one when Ellie and I were in California. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So you probably would like a spa.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was good. But we were both, I had so much stress at that moment. She we're so we decided we were like, we could either go to a nice dinner or go get massages. It was like literally the same amount of money. We opted out, we ate our snacks in the room and got massages instead. And we were like, it was worth it. That was the right answer. Well, you know what? Honestly, for our mental health, it was I slept better that night than I had in probably two months. Wow. Yep. I I mean, no melatonin, no nothing. We went home. We both took separate showers. I want to be clear on that. We showered and went to bed like exhausted.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Okay, so that will be the perfect bingo for you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is a spot.
SPEAKER_02It was crazy how well that helped me sleep. I'm still thinking about what I'm gonna do. I don't know what I'm gonna reward myself with.
SPEAKER_03You'll just give yourself a cup of coffee and pet Bella. Sure. Well they'll figure out something anyway. Well, I hope everybody at least does. If you don't do one for yourself, do one for your shop with your team. But it is fun to do.
SPEAKER_02It's fun and it really makes you think about some things that you want to achieve, even if it's a to-do list of things you need to do around the house or projects at work. It really does help you keep it in the forefront of your mind and right in your face, so to speak.
