In today's episode of the Transition Guy I'm taking a look at Business Ethics. I also discuss what happens when a company like Carillion goes bust, leaving hundreds of SME's on the brink of failure.
Carillion's collapse was for many people a bolt from the blue - a large UK company that had no obvious problems went bust in a little more than a year. Even the company's directors seemed to have no idea what was about to happen. In the annual report published in March, they signed off a "viability" statement saying there was no reason to think the company would have financial difficulties in the next three years.
Business ethics (also known as corporate ethics) is a form of applied ethics or professional ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a business environment. It applies to all aspects of business conduct and is relevant to the conduct of individuals and entire organisations. These ethics originate from individuals, organisational statements or from the legal system. These norms, values, ethical, and unethical practices are what is used to guide business. They help those businesses maintain a better connection with their stakeholders.
