Roll to Save
Three middle-aged nerds dive deep into the golden age of tabletop RPGs, covering the classics from the 80s and 90s that shaped the hobby we love today. Iain and Jason banter their way through gaming history while Steve desperately tries to keep them on topic—and occasionally succeeds.
Whether you're a grognard who lived through THAC0 or a newcomer curious about what to do with all those lovely polyhederal dice you've aquired, we've got you covered with historical deep-dives, roundtable discussions fueled by questionable nostalgia, and actual play episodes where our players' competence is... variable.
All of this released on a schedule that can charitably be called "flexible" at best.
Grab some dice and join us for a trip down memory lane—just don't ask us to commit to when the next episode will drop.

Allen Varney
Allen Varney is an American writer and game designer. Varney has produced numerous books, role-playing game supplements, technical manuals, articles, reviews, columns, and stories, as well as the fantasy novel Cast of Fate.
Varney served as the line editor for a new version of the roleplaying game Paranoia, published in 2004 by Mongoose Publishing. He wrote the new rules and packaged the game's support line with the help of his "Traitor Recycling Studio" until 2006 when Mongoose put the game line on hold.
Most recently, Varney has operated the Bundle of Holding site, distributing bundles of licensed but DRM-free role-playing game files in a series of time-limited offers.
Jon Cohen
Jon Cohen creates stories in Toronto where fantasy meets tabletop gaming. As the writer, producer, and host of the Tale of the Manticore podcast, he's built a world for listeners who crave dark fantasy adventures. He also designed One Shot In the Dark, a solo RPG that puts players right into the action.
When he's not crafting narratives, Jon splits his time between audio engineering and music composition. His tastes run from The Ramones to Mastodon, and his movie shelf holds everything from Spielberg classics to Sam Raimi's horror comedies. He reads Tolkien and Krakauer with equal enthusiasm, plays music whenever he can, and shows up at concerts just as often.
Jon's the kind of guest who understands that good storytelling works the same way whether you're recording a podcast, running a tabletop campaign, or mixing a track. He knows how to hook an audience and keep them listening.
