The psychology of healthy change. Interview with Heather Hausenblas, PhD
Feb 12, 2023

This week I'm delighted to be joined by Dr Heather Hausenblas

Heather has a PhD in the science of health psychology.
She is a health psychology expert, international award-winning scientist, public speaker, and best-selling author.

Her research focuses on how our health habits effect our well-being. In particular, how our diet, exercise, sleep, and supplementation effects our overall health.
And, to top this off, she's ranked in the top 1% of the most influential scientists in the world.

Dr Hausenblas obtained her PhD from Western University in Canada. Was a faculty member and the Director of the Exercise Psychology Lab at the University of Florida, and has served as a Scientific Advisor for nutrition, supplement, and health companies.

She currently is a Professor of Health Sciences at Jacksonville Universityand is also the CEO and Founder of Wellness Discovery Labs, a health behavior research company.
AND, as if that wasn't impressive enough,  so is the co-founder of Healthy Moves Journaling, a wellness company that focuses on small changes for big health improvements.

In short, you're not going to find a more qualified person to talk to about making healthy changes and how to go about improving your health in a sustainable way.

We discuss many things including;

Why is making healthy lifestyle changes so difficult when you're pregnant or newly post-partum?

Why exercise is important for your post-partum recovery and how is safe to do.

Why keeping up exercise during pregnancy is key to being active post-partum.

Women who's exercise levels drop during pregnancy hardly ever become active again post-partum, so how to prevent this.

How you exercising is important for your health AND YOUR BABY'S!

How can healthcare professionals motivate people to exercise more/eat healtier?
Why your doctor should "prescribe exercise".

The importance and benefits of journalling (and why you don't need an expensive gadget to track your health habits)

And much, much, MUCH more.

"In the news this week"; This study, which shows that male alcohol consumption has a significant impact on fertility.  Obviously we have discussed this on previous podcasts before but it's always nice to point out the obvious. The PDF of the study is at the bottom of the link

BTW, as a TLDR; the study refers to long-term alcohol use, not a couple of beers on the weekend :)
