Well, hello, everyone, and welcome to the podcast for this week. This week, I have a fellow Australian with me the amazing Tory Archbold. Hi, Tory, how are you doing?
Tory Archbold 0:12
Oh, man, I'm so excited for this Power Chat. Because you know what, as women, we support each other's but as Australians who go and conquer the world, it's important that we stay connected, and still support each other. So thank you for the opportunity.
Natalie Ledwell 0:24
Of course and conquer the world you have, you have such an amazing life story that I'm going to ask you to share in just a moment. You are the author of a new book, self belief is your superpower, we were going to talk a little bit about that. And what I love about you is that you have these particular rituals and things that you do that help you to manifest this incredible life that you have. And, and you're following your bliss, or you're following your passion. You know, for you money's not the you know, there's not the goal, it's there, what am I doing, that's going to make a contribution to make a difference. Now, I know that there is many women who are listening to this podcast right now going, Oh, that's me, that's me. I think we have a lot of us have been through a ton of different types of businesses, or careers, or motherhood, or whatever. And we're now at this time of our life where we have all this richness of experience. And, and we've got this age and maturity, but we still have all this energy. And we have, you know, this brain power and this, you know, creativity, that we really want to channel into something that we know is going to be helping humanity. So why don't we start with because you know, your your career life has been, it'd been quite the roller coaster.
Tory Archbold 1:41
It has been a bit of a roller coaster. And it all started when I was 24 years old. Because I think, you know, when you're in your 20s, a lot of people want to place you into a box now that, you know, you should go and get married, you should do a university degree, you should have three children. And this will be your nice house with a white picket fence. But I always wanted to jump out of that box because my gut instinct told me that there was a bigger and better life out there for me. And when I say bigger and better, it's the ability to go out there and back yourself, believe in yourself and create and build, you know, powerful brands, powerful runways for other people. And so with absolutely no experience and no money in the bank, and I know you have that feeling as well, as like, everything's on the line, I decided to create an agency called Torstar, which ended up being the top branding communications agency in Australia. And we were responsible for launching and partnering with some of the world's biggest brands. So if you think about, you know, Zara Victoria's Secret, Amazon, Mowbray, you know, even Drew Barrymore's Flower Beauty, we attracted all of those clients, because I anchored my business to my truth, I anchored it to passion, integrity, and delivery, which my three values, but most importantly, my intent, and my purpose was clear. So I believe that you can shift energy and you can attract whatever you want in this lifetime. If you are very clear on your intention, purpose. Now, you know, you talk about the roller coaster of my life. And I love the fact that you describe it as that because, you know, I was known as this PR powerhouse, the woman that launched you know, incredible global brands into our market. And then for Australian brands, you know, help them scale up to $100 million, plus the m&a deals. But behind the scenes, I was broken. And there was a lot going on that I never spoke about. And it wasn't until a near death experience in 2013. So a decade ago now that the universe basically gave me the greatest Shakedown ever, when my appendix slipped unexpectedly 72 hours before a flight that I was due on to London. And unfortunately, that operation didn't go too well to remove them. And I ended up with septicemia, which is sepsis. And I was really, you know, I hit ground zero. And I looked around and I thought, oh my gosh, you know what? Everyone thinks I'm so happy. I don't know whether we're allowed to swear on this podcast. Okay. Yeah, I was like, I'm fucking miserable. Like, I am surrounded by takers, and I'm a giver. But my problem was that I given so much I hadn't given to myself, I placed myself last on the list every single day. I was a single mom. I was running a global business. I looked like I had it all, yet I had nothing. And it was really clear to me that I had to start making changes in my life. So what I started doing was stripping out and just becoming unavailable for all the takers. And I really learned quite quickly that if I was going to be giving, giving, giving, I needed to surround myself with people who really believed in the power of a mutual exchange of energy. And so that mutual exchange of energy, it wasn't like, you know, what can you do for me? What can I do for You it was more, it just felt right. Like the energy you didn't have to ask, it just kind of naturally happened. And as I removed the takers and moved into this amazing energetic field, my life started to change my mindset. And my mindset started to shift. And, you know, I decided to shut my business a few years later, and start again, because I was able to stand in my power in my truth and not be afraid of judgment impostor syndrome. And just saying, you know, what, this is who I am, like, gonna leave it, I really don't care. But I'm gonna surround myself with the best of the best people. And it's not to say that I didn't attract that type of person to my life before. I did. But it was a different energy field and this magnetic energy field that I managed to walk through, and a lot of people talk about it as an energy vortex. It allowed me to create this incredible business called powerful steps where I use the framework of what I created for two decades in PR, branding and marketing. And I help women own their power, understand their intent, their purpose, ignite that passion, so that they can go on and create, build and deliver powerful brands or powerful messages to others around the world.
Natalie Ledwell 6:20
Right. So you've gone from this pretty glamorous, glitzy, you know, hanging out with people like Drew Barrymore this this, you know, a lot of money I would assume from from that kind of a thing. How did you make that, like, how did you get because, you know, you were saying that you always would set intentions. And so a lot of what you created there, you had set intentions for how do you go from stepping away from that to understanding or realizing what it is that you wanted to do next? Because I think for a lot of listeners on the podcast, this is exactly where they are. They go, Okay, no, I don't want this. But I don't want to figure out what it is that I want. Next,
Tory Archbold 7:00
you got to reshape your thinking. So you're absolutely right, I set the intent. I wanted to partner I wanted to create with the world's best brands, celebrities, and influencers. And a lot of people go boom, check that box, or, you know, they might have created their own business. Or they might be a CEO of a company. And they're probably sitting there going, Yes, I tick that box, too. So I hear you, I see you, and I feel you. But what you've got to ask yourself is are you happy. And I think for me, reshaping myself, I went through like 12 rounds of antibiotics, I could not get better. And I remember because I was suffering from chronic and adrenal fatigue. And the surgeon said to me, after my operation, you know what to are, you are never gonna get better until you understand the power of being happy. And I want you to understand this mantra. And it was, it was actually the greatest gift I've ever been given. And it was a happy heart is a magnet for miracles. And actually, on my book, I talk about how to become a magnet for miracles. And he said to me, you're going to start placing yourself on the top of the list, not the bottom. Even when your daughter says something that's going to be secondary it is you you are number one. Now when you understand the power of being happy, what's going to happen is your vibration is going to rise, you are going to be surrounded by a better caliber of people. And the success that you feel that you're in right now is going to be even greater because it's from the heart, not the ego. And so when we step out of ego into heart, and we understand the power of happiness, we can create the biggest impact. So in answer to your question about you know, people, how do you reshape where you're at? How do you find that elusive happiness? It's you must step away from the situation that you're in, you must give yourself time to live, learn, breathe, you know, going out into nature is a great thing, booking yourself into a wellness retreat, asking for help getting a mentor, getting someone that can help you navigate. But I found one of the most powerful tools for me was journaling and understanding my life story. And through journaling. I understood the patterns and I needed to break the situation's I needed to walk away from I'm brick by brick. You know what, I burned to the ground and I rebuilt the house. And I attracted my soulmate. I married the love of my life, my daughter became happier, I became happier. And you know, making a decision to start again when I was 44 years old, was the easiest decision of my life because I placed myself in a position of power, where I didn't care what other people thought it was what I thought that mattered and what counted most.
Natalie Ledwell 9:40
Right. Yeah, and I'm assuming because I've had been in this position before to where you know, I'm Go, go, go, I've got things happening. My life is busy. I'm traveling all the time and speaking the whole thing. I had someone say to me, Well, you know what brings you joy. And I go well, when I'm helping people like No, no, no, not what you do. What brings you joy. Oh, And I could not answer the question. You know, and I think that it sounds like that. Like when he said, you know, what is happy? Did you have a definition? Or did you know what makes you happy? Or did you have I did it back to your site
Tory Archbold 10:12
I didn’t, I didn’t know, I was like you. And I'm so glad that you brought this up nap. Because a couple of months ago, I was in this amazing wellness retreat called Camellia. And I've got a life coach, sorry, I've got a life coach over there, who's a Buddhist monk. And he said to me, the same thing to me, what brings you happiness? And I started talking about, you know, are these people bring me happiness? And he goes, No, no, no, no, no, bring it back to you. What gives you happiness. And he said, I want you to walk away from the session with me and come back in a couple of days. But just think about it. And I really thought about I thought, you know, lying at the top of a mountain, or on a grassy knoll, in a stop, stop ish, with a sudden streaming on my face and not caring what other people think. And just going, Oh, my gosh, I'm alive. It just for some reason, it releases endorphins in me and I love it. You know, waking up and feeling and listening to the, you know, the waves crashing in just the softness around that I love it, watching a sunrise, looking at a supermoon. Like, they'll all these really basic things. And what I discovered through that is guess what, they don't cost anything. They're available to anyone, we just need to tap into them as resources to fill our hearts. So happiness is not about other people, it's about what ignites the flame in you. And when you understand that you're able to really be able to co create with others in a more powerful way, and attract abundance in the right way. So I think, you know, in our 20s and 30s, it's all about, you know, building, you know, building the career getting all the things that we think that we need and want. But you know, you're not gonna get buried with a Chanel handbag. Right? You're just not.
Natalie Ledwell 12:05
It's like you.Yeah. No, I agree totally with that. And, you know, for me, I was the same thing. Like, if I think about what brings me joy, it's like, you know, my puppy Bella, you know, walking in the mornings with the fresh air, and I'm, you know, near the ocean here and smelling the ocean, you know, driving my car on PCH, which is, you know, the road that you see in all the movies and all the TV shows, but when I'm driving my car on that road, it's like, the gratitude that just waves over me because I'm like, wow, this is this is my life. I mean, I grew up in orange. Tree, oh,
Tory Archbold 12:45
back to orange juice May happiness as well. Because, you know, you drive into the middle of nowhere. And then this is beautiful town and people and energy and you can go for bush walks. That's good. That's a great, you know, happiness point as well. It's when you can remember destinations. People or as you just say, like driving along the highway. It's what opens your heart, and what opens your heart creates opportunities. And, you know, by creating opportunities for yourself, that's where you become that magnet for miracles.
Natalie Ledwell 13:19
Yeah. And I think it's also consciously and mindfully going from doing to being because when we're just being we're really in communion with ourselves. And I think that when we can have that communion with ourselves, that's when we can really get back to all who are we? What are what are my values? Because if you are trying to figure out what that next step is, you know, life leads break breadcrumbs. And what is important to you now is kind of the Okay, well, if I'm really good at this, I love doing this, let's scratch list, scratch at that a little bit and see where that leads. You know, and I think that that's what's really helps you to, to go on to that next level. But I think the other thing, too, is is asking for help mean having those right people around you as well, like so. So who were the kind of people that you have that that you will consider mentors, like, how did you find them?
Tory Archbold 14:19
It's such a great question, because I always found it really hard to ask for help. Because I think you know, when you're a financially independent woman, people think she doesn't need help. She's got it all going God, right. So for me, being in Australia, this is really interesting. I didn't want to be judged. So I sought out mentors in the US. So I had a shaman that was based in New York, then she went to LA now she's in Austin, Texas, and we still communicate. I found that she really helped me to find myself to tap into my intuition to be brave enough to start again. I had a life coach out of Chicago that I worked, you know, in depth with as well. I had an energy here lot as well that, you know, after two years of really working through all the trauma that I'd been through and breaking the pattern said, You've got wings to fly, you don't need me anymore, which was the biggest gift because I think when you have a mentor, you're not necessarily going to have them for life, you're going to have them through journeys of your life, and they're there to allow you to get to the next level. And now, you know, I have an amazing network of people that I can tap into. But I always get the biggest gift from an incredible man called Sujay, who was a Buddhist monk and is now a life coach at camellia because I just walk into that room. And it's like, he can see right through me, and he can see what I need to let go of to get to the next level. And I think you are always going to evolve in life, but you've got to be willing to let people in. Right to allow that evolution to happen.
Natalie Ledwell 16:00
Yeah. And I think too, it's not just the mentors, because it's very important. And because a lot of the times you need to have the, you know, an outsider's perspective. And then if there's someone that you've worked with for a while, and they know you, then they go, Well remember, you know, they can sort of help you see what you can't see. But what's been important for me is the female friendships that I've cultivated at this time of my life, because at this time, I like now we're, you know, we're not competing, we're not in our 20s and 30s. You know, we've got to this time of our life. And so these friendships are so rich, because it's more about being able to say those things that you could never see before. There is no we can say, Look, I'm struggling with this, and there's no judgment, and no wall, there is a support. So you know, being able to cultivate those kinds of friendships at this time of life is been one of the biggest blessings. You know, think
Tory Archbold 16:52
so? Yeah. And also, not being afraid to let go of friendships that are probably just not good for you. It's really a moment.
Natalie Ledwell 17:02
Yeah. I mean, I've been through so many different, you know, countries where I've lived in towns and businesses, and whatever. And I always find those ebbs and flows. You know, when I first came to the US, you know, we were doing a lot of work with my movies, and I was doing a lot with meditation and everything. Most of the friends that I had in Australia was still from the nightclub days. But only with within a couple of years of me going, you know, visiting back at Christmas time, did the conversation start to come around to meditation and met him for him like, wow, so you just, you know, everything is absent flows. And if you have to release someone at this at this moment, it's not like it's the end of the world. I'm not that you'll never be friends with them again. It's just like, in this moment in time, it's not serving you to keep erect. Yeah, yeah. And yeah, go ahead.
Tory Archbold 17:51
No, I was just gonna say, for anyone listening, that's such a key point. Because often what's holding us back is the conditions that we place around ourselves are the obligations going, I must be friends with this person, I must stay in this job. You don't need to do that. You need to look inside yourself and ask yourself what's right for me?
Natalie Ledwell 18:10
Right, exactly. So the name of the book is self belief is your superpower. So for? I mean, I think we have a lot of, you know, experience and so forth, at best, but we also, with age does bring some self doubt. It's like, Am I too old and my past it? Like, you know, do I really, you know, when people really respect me? So what are some of the self beliefs that you believe is really important for us at this time, to really surrender into to really embody to really live from?
Tory Archbold 18:47
It's never too late to start again? Yeah, you know, and it doesn't age is just a number. Let's face it. You know, I shot one successful business at 44. And started again, I got married for the first time when I was 46. You know what, I'm turning 50 In a couple of months time. And I think my life is just beginning. So you know, and I know your audience is full of women in their 40s and 50s. And this book is really for them. Because you're going through that transformational phase where you're asking yourself, what next. And so this book really gives you the framework to understand what that next powerful step is. And what I would like to just share with with your listeners is two rituals that really helped me get clear on that, and I talk about it a lot in the book, is when you set your day up for success, the right way, by allowing the secret whispers of life to find you, you're able to shift energy forward in a more positive way to attract those miracles that you want to get to the next level in life. And many years ago, I was told by this Buddhist monk that I should learn to meditate and I just was like, I don't have time. Busy, busy, busy. I made all the excuses in the world. And he said to me, Well, who do you have a shower with in the morning, and I said, myself, and he goes, that's going to be the place that you meditate. Now, I've been doing this for over 10 years, it's extraordinary. It shifts energy, I teach it in my programs, the women have attracted the most incredible opportunities. And it's really simple, you just get some lavender oil. In the shower, you put three drops in your deck large, and you just inhale, exhale really deeply, three times. And I find it really anchors you to Mother Earth. And so when you start your day, anchored to the planet that we're on, and you just allow your mind to just wander and just receive the messages, the runway becomes clear. So you're stepping into your day with passion and purpose. Now, at the end of the day, I repeat that ritual, but I do it with gratitude. You know, thank you so much for that, and I having this opportunity, it is actually the second recording of the podcast. But I would say to the universe, thank you for not allowing that microphone to work on the last one, because I had a second opportunity to connect with her. And we've discussed these opportunities. Thank you so much for dropping in that abundance for me. Yeah. So it's whoever you're connected with throughout the day, gratitude for the how and the why that came about. And then you wake up the next day and you repeat it. So that is one thing that I would highly recommend. If you're stuck right now, and you say you're too busy to meditate, I understand I was the same. But this is just so simple. And you can do it for 30 seconds, you can do it for 30 minutes, whatever works. Second thing is is if you want to shift energy, if you are searching for answers lean into the power of people. So all my life, all my business life, I've always said coffee, not lunch. And I've always made the effort to connect with people based on a mutual exchange of energy. And I always go in asking how I can help. So every week, I have three coffee dates, one with someone I know. So it could be someone in your community, someone that you work with, or you know someone that you just want to reconnect with? It's just catching up. How are you? What's been going on? How can we help each other? Second person? Is this someone you want to partner with? Now, you know, you bought up Drew Barrymore a couple of times, it's when I was in New York for work all the time, I'd always fly out by LA and I'd spend a couple of extra days in LA and a coffee date with people. And little did I know that some of the coffee dates they had had very powerful relationships with celebrities, and through those coffee dates and just saying to them, how can my agency at the time help their agency? How can we partner lead on to them referring me some incredible projects and connections. So partnership is really important. Third one is outside your comfort zone. You know, I want a coffee date with Michelle Obama, you know, I'd love to have tea with Oprah. You know, don't think anything is beyond your reach. Because someone somewhere has a connection to that person. Don't be afraid to ask for that connection. So if you are shifting your energy forward by coffee, dating and making the time either human connection or virtual connection, if it's virtual, it's only 45 minutes of your time per week, what you're doing is you're saying to the universe, I'm available. I'm sharing, I'm giving, but show me who's meant to come into my life and how I can help them to that is how you shift your energy forward to receive the answers that you're seeking, for that transformational moment in life. And I talk about that a lot in my book, it's if you set the framework up, and you show up, that's when the magic truly happens.
Natalie Ledwell 23:44
Yeah. So there's a couple of things I like about those two rituals, the shower ritual. It suggests that each day, you have a moment, whether it's evening or morning, whenever you're having a shower, where you drop in and become aware of you the events of the day. And how you feel or how you interpret or how you observe the events of the day. Because the thing is, we can go through days, weeks months, where you kind of get to the anything, Oh God, I haven't really had time for myself or whatever. And it's just a blur. But by having like, you'd like to sit, it could be three minutes, but having that level of awareness every day. It does a lot to have a connection to your soul. You know, and to go, Okay, well, that happened that way. So next time we're going to do a better like you have, you know, you get to reassess everything that goes on. But also, if you're setting intentions all the time about I want my business to go this way I want to have these connections. So that when you are in the habit of making these coffee dates, when you couple that with the intention that the things that you're working on, that's why then the magic happens. Because then those coffee dates become can become serendipitous they can become so they do.
Tory Archbold 25:08
Because what's happening is you're planting a seed. And you and I both know with manifestation, when you plant the seeds, and you continually put your energy into that seed, it grows. Yeah. And so it's you're placing your energy where you want to shift forward. So you're shifting your intention. And you're saying, not only to the universe, but the people that you connect with. I'm here, you know, I'm ready. Yeah.
Natalie Ledwell 25:36
And it's also, these little nuggets of proof evidence that, you know, the, the direction in which you're heading is right, you're on the right path, because all these things are kind of dropping in, which helps to build your belief and expectation that what you're working towards, is going to come into fruition. Now, belief and expectation are two of the most important ingredients when it comes to manifesting what we want. Because if we don't believe it, and we don't expect it to happen, then it doesn't.
Tory Archbold 26:11
That's exactly right. And I also talk in the book as well, it's when you really, really want something. So you could be anyone I've been through relationships, we know this, you're in bed on your own, but you want the right energy next to you. Yeah, you want to bring in that partner, you want to bring in that love or that beautiful soul that's meant for you. Try thinking about the energy that you're going to attract. And really think about when you're waking up in the morning, what's the interaction with that other person? What does that look like? What does that feel like? Because I did that before my husband came in completely unexpectedly. And I always manifest the energy that wake up and kiss me on the nape of my neck. I kid you not every morning, he does that. In that exact spot that I said to myself, this is the energy that I want to wake up to. And it's like this beautiful energy that starts my day before my morning shower ritual, right? So it's when you actually think that there's a hole or a gap in your life, just know that the universe has got you in a holding pattern for you to get really clear on what it is. And use that space to create an activate what you want.
Natalie Ledwell 27:29
Absolutely, I know I had the same thing, actually, even on my profile on my my dating profile. You know, one of the questions I answered was like, how do you spend your Sunday mornings, and I'm like, you know, we sleep in we have special Cuddles, we have a lovely breakfast. And that's, you know, the mornings that Bert and I are together. That's exactly what happens. What you do. Yeah. And he's like, Wait, that's what I want.
Tory Archbold 27:54
If you don't put it out there, how can you expect someone to be a mind reader to know what you want, you've got to actually share with people. And the more you share with people, the more it becomes a reality and a possibility.
Natalie Ledwell 28:07
Yeah. And you know, when I had to catch myself the other day, because, you know, this is exactly what I asked for. I asked for that. And the other morning, I've got lots of things on my mind, and I'm like trying to get ready and and Burt's walking in and out of the bathroom. But every time he walks past me, he's grabbing me and holding me and giving me a big cuddle. You know, and and I found myself going off for God's sake, I'm trying to get ready, but in my mind, but I'm like, no, no, no, no, I asked for that. I asked. Oh, totally, totally, and the gratitude piece. You know, if you're really stressed, you're not going to sleep at night, but gratitude allows you to really sink into a beautiful feeling of how lucky we are. You know how lucky we are how blessed we are. Which you know, you can sleep like a baby when you feel like that.
