So recently I was listening to an episode with Brendan Burchard. He is a coach and Honestly, like he's my coach in my mind because I can't afford him because you need a million dollars to Be able to afford his services, but he is amazing at what he does And in this particular episode that I was listening to him He was talking about when it is time to slow down and it prompted me to want to talk to you about this today because We are definitely going through a time where there is just a lot, a lot of people that need your attention and your time. There are a lot of things that you need to get done, whether it be at home or at work. There are a lot of things that you want to do personally, whether it's hobbies or going on trips, there is just a lot going on. And I am reminded of. When this one very wise mom told me about having kids how the days are long and the years are short And I have found this to be true because I am just looking at my kids and seeing how big they are and just wondering when did you grow up like I literally remember bringing these babies home and now I have these big boys So that was definitely a time when I looked and I was like, man, I really need to slow down, really need to, to stop taking on so many things and really start to, one, be present, two, enjoy things more, and three, just really just take in everything life has to offer. So if you are new to me, my name is Tony and I am the podcast host of the Real Happy Mom podcast, the podcast for busy working moms who need more time and want to achieve their big goals without pulling their hair out. And in this episode, we are going to be talking about some of the signs that it's time to slow down and ways that we can slow down so that we can start to enjoy things more and actually be more productive. So. If you are listening and you are wondering, okay, like, yeah, Tony, I'm like, we all have things going on, but you know, do I really need to slow down? I will definitely say there are several signs that it's time to slow down. And when I say it's time to slow down, it's time to cut back and not do so much because I definitely see, for us as moms, we will quickly jump in and want help, we want to volunteer for things, we want to, to be there for everyone, but sometimes it's time to like, step back, cut back a little bit so that you can show up and be your best. So if you're feeling like, I just can't keep up this pace for much longer, or there's just not enough hours in the day, or, you know, this is a rollercoaster ride I want to get off of, these are definitely some of the signs that Things are moving a little bit too fast and we need to slow some things down. So one of the signs that it's time to slow down is you're not as excited as you used to be. I know that for me, I was very excited about going to work every day. If you're new to me, I am a general dentist in Jacksonville, Florida, and I absolutely love what I do, but the last few months I have been waking up and not being so excited about going to work. Not because there's like Anybody in particular that I don't want to see. Well, yeah, there's a couple of my patients. If y'all are listening, y'all know who you are. No, I'm just joking. They don't even know. But I just woke up feeling like I just don't even want to do this anymore. And that was definitely a red flag, like, hold up, what's going on? And it was really just a sign for me that, you know, I have just been pushing and pushing and going and going, and it was time to slow down. So have you noticed that you're not excited? Have you noticed that you don't have the enthusiasm that you used to have or I know that you have a lot going on and you're tired and things, but do you just feel like, man, like, I just don't even want to do this anymore. And like, that's definitely a sign that it's time to slow down. Another sign that it's time to slow down is that you're constantly feeling tired. You know, you. wake up, you're tired. You go through the day, you're tired. You get home, you're tired. Like you're just tired all of the time. Like, yes, there are some real medical conditions out there that will have you feeling this chronic fatigue, but if this is not something that you have a medical condition for, or you haven't been diagnosed with a medical condition that causes chronic fatigue, then. Maybe it's time to check some things out. Like, why are you feeling so tired? Like, it's because you're not getting enough rest. You're not sleeping enough. Maybe because you're not even eating. Throughout the day or not eating really good foods that are actually fueling your body. Like definitely take some time and look and see like, what is really going on? Why am I so tired? And if you are like feeling really tired all the time, maybe that's a sign to raise up your hand, say time out and take a pause and slow things down. Another way or another place where you will see that is a sign that it's time to slow down is when you are feeling irritable. And irritable with just everybody. I know this was definitely something that is very common with me. When I need to slow down it, I get very cranky with everybody in my family. Like, it's just the simplest little things that will set me off and get on my nerves. Like, you know, the kids didn't put the fork the right way, or my husband I don't like the way he's laughing or whatever it is just like little little things that normally like don't bother you are like Constantly getting on your nerves. That is definitely a sign that it's time to slow down Another sign that it's time to slow down. Is that boundaries that you have with people? This can be at work and at home, so maybe before, like, you know, you at work certain hours and it was fine, then all of a sudden, the accent, you just stay a little bit longer and a little bit longer and a little bit longer. And it was like, man, like, At first we were good, you know, at five o'clock I was out the door, now it's seven and I'm still here. And this isn't something that you're prepared for or something that was discussed before. So what, are there certain boundaries that you had as far as like, whether it be with time, with energy, money, are these boundaries that you had with people in your life and even at work, are they starting to get blurry or non existent? So I'll talk to you about a couple ways that you know, it's, it's really important to be aware of what what these signs show up in your life and what some of these signs are. When it's time to slow down a few other things to, to keep in mind and just look out for, it's like you're always late and that's not typically your fashion. You're getting clumsy or losing things a lot. Or maybe it's that you don't have any time to eat, so. Take a look and see, like, are some of these signs popping up in your life? Are some of these signs popping up in your day to day? And if they are, it's time to pump the brakes and slow things down. So you're probably wondering, okay, Tony, and you keep talking about slowing down. What, what exactly do you mean by slowing down? All right. Good question. Let's talk about this. So slowing down. I'm just talking about not being so busy Like I understand you got to go to work You got to take care of the kids, but all of the other things that you got going on outside of that. How can we? minimize all of the extra ness and make things easy So the first thing that I like to do or ask When I am feeling like it's time to slow down. It's just simply ask myself How can I make things easy? How can I make this simple? Because a lot of times we will add some more steps. So just think about it like you're making dinner and it's this particular dish. I love the Pioneer Woman. Absolutely love her and I love her recipes. But her recipes, baby. It's a lot in those recipes. She'll have like 30 ingredients for one plate. I'm like, good night. And I don't even have but like two. So it's hard to make these, you know, really elaborate things versus like you find another recipe that only has five ingredients. So how can we take it down from, you know, the spectacular Pioneer Woman recipe and make it a simple, easy five ingredient recipe that takes 15 minutes? But gets the job done. That's what I'm talking about. So are there fewer things that you could do at home, like you know, slowing down on some of the cleaning around the house or delegating some of the cleaning around the house? Could it be getting some assistance with some of the chores maybe, you know, you get the kids to help you out with things or hire help, or maybe you just like let things sit for a little bit, because I'll be honest with you. There have been times when I'm just like, I don't. So what are some of the things that you can do right now to make things easier for you at home? What are some of the things that you can do right now to make things easier for you at work? Could it be you know, making sure that you're prepared for meetings so that things can go a lot smoother? Could it be getting things organized on your desk or on your desktop. What are some of the things that you can do to make things easier for you so that you can slow things down and not have to feel so busy and overwhelmed. Next thing I would say when you are really feeling like there's just too much going on and you need to slow down is stop and write down what you're grateful for. I know this sounds kind of like goofy, like Tony and we don't, we're not, we're not doing this right now. Like we're, we're trying to not have so much things to do. But the reason why I say take some time to stop and, and write down what you're grateful for. It's because, one, it will help to change your mindset and your perspective, two, it will help you to see the things that are actually really going well and the things that you actually are really enjoying in your life. Because I think a lot of times we take for granted some of the things that we have, the people that are in our lives and some of the material possessions that we utilize on a daily basis because we don't take time to be grateful for them. And so Taking a step back, seeing all the things that you're grateful for can help you to change your perspective and see like, Oh, okay. Like I have everything that I need and want, like, I'm just doing too much. Like what let's, let's get rid of this or let's not do so much of that. But I know there are some moms who are listening who are in really difficult times right now, whether it be with family, with health conditions or life just being crazy because of certain financial situations, whatever it is, I know that it can make things very, very hard. And I see you. I, I, I hear you. I just really want you to see like, You can like step back, slow things down and make things easier for yourself so that you don't end up burning yourself out. That's my biggest thing. I really think that a lot of times we see the signs and the signs are popping up. But we ignore them and we keep pushing ourselves and that eventually leads us to being burnt out, to being irritable, tired and having those blurry boundaries that I was talking about earlier. So first stop, like I said, ask yourself how you can make Things easier and then secondly changes your perspective by writing down or thinking about the things that you're grateful for and then lastly I would say with slowing down is Speaking up and asking for help and I say this a lot and this is because I feel like we don't do this enough I know I personally don't I Many times I will write down today, I'm going to ask somebody for help. Like I literally have to like remind myself to ask for help because I, I'm just used to doing things on my own and just getting things done, but you don't have to do things by yourself. So ask for help. Make sure that you are looking and finding ways to make things easier for yourself, and then make sure to take note of the things that you're grateful for. These are some ways that I have found will help you to slow down just a little bit so that you don't burn yourself out and ultimately you can actually speed up and do some really awesome things that you have planned. Now that's all I have for this episode. I hope that you enjoyed it and you've found something that you can take from it. Make sure you stay tuned for next week for another full episode. I will see you then take care and with lots of love.
