Intersectionality refers to the concept that an individual's social identities, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and class, are interconnected and that these intersections can create unique and often compounded experiences of discrimination. The term was coined by Kimberlé Crenshaw, a legal scholar and civil rights advocate, in the late 1980s.
