Architecture matters.
Last weekend, while visiting Detroit-area college friends, Mom & Dad were able to attend mass where Steven serves as a deacon and got to hear him preach. One of our friends is an adult student at Sacred Heart Seminary and so we took the opportunity to take a tour of the school.
The design of Sacred Heart seminary reinforces its mission. Contained in a single building with several wings, the center of the structure is the chapel. Surrounded by courtyards, the whole building speaks to its mission.
The hallways themselves are filled with history. Spanning over 100 years, individual class pictures adorn the corridor walls. Along with giving witness to history, these photos show other young seminarians, filled with the same energy as the current building occupants.
Sacred Heart also embraces the whole, integrated character. Though the chapel is at the center, in the corners are an auditorium for entertainment and arts and a gymnasium for physical activity.
Sacred Heart also opens the doors to its local community. A highlight is the upcoming Trick-or-Treat event when children from the community stop by for candy.
