Speaker 1:

Hey, hey, hey. Friends, I am Dr Patrice Buckner-Jackson, but you can call me PBJ. Welcome to another episode of Disrupting Burnout, where we are giving you the strategies to pour out purpose without continuing to endure the consequences of burnout. Friend, I am so excited that you have joined me for another episode, and this is a special episode. So, as I think about where we are in the year oh my gosh y'all. October is almost over and we've got about two months left just a little more than two months left in this year I want to start leaning forward to prepare us for the new year and whatever it has to bring. You all know that I'm focused on encouraging you to discover your brilliance. I also know, in order to do that, you're going to have to check your baggage and build some boundaries. So the best way I knew to prepare us for the new year is to kind of recap.

Speaker 1:

I want to share with you some snippets of my audio book friends. So I know some of you have already read the book because you've shared with me. Some of you have even heard the audio, but whether you've read it or not, heard it or not, this is a good refresher for all of us, even if you read it, there are some spoons full of PBJ throughout that are not written in the book that you haven't heard yet. So I just encourage you to take this journey with me as we end 2024 and prepare for 2025. I want to make sure that we all have these strategies down pat, and so let's do this thing, let's review, let's listen in. Today I want to share with you the introduction to my book, disrupting Burnout, and it's called there's a Name for that. Now, this is going to be a short episode because the introduction is short, but I believe that as you listen today, you're going to find yourself and you will recognize that, one, you're not the only one. Two, you didn't make it up. Three, it's a real thing. So I want to start at the beginning and share with you the introduction to my book, disrupting Burnout the Professional Woman's Lifeline to Finding Purpose. Now, friend, I know that some of my brothers, my friends who are not women, I know that you all listen to this podcast and I want you to know that you're welcome here, even though in the book, I'm specifically speaking to professional women. I believe that if you're a part of this community, you know what I'm talking about, so hang on in there, friend, and let's have this conversation together. Here we go, let's talk about it To the woman with the heavy load. I see you, friend. This is for you Introduction. There's a name for that.

Speaker 1:

You're an accomplished woman with many responsibilities and you often find yourself overwhelmed, exhausted and burned out. I know I've been there. As a matter of fact, burnout almost cost me everything. You're reading this book because everyone recognizes and desires your gifts, but they have no idea what it costs to be you. You give so much to others that you have very little left for yourself. Others that you have very little left for yourself.

Speaker 1:

You work with your empathy meter on high most days and it is exhausting. You often find yourself depleted after serving others and you feel your efforts are taken for granted. You feel misused by everyone in your life, including those who love you. You feel guilty because everyone around you thinks you've got it all together. If they only knew. People tell you to put it all in God's hands, but no one taught you how to do that. There's no margin in your life. You could literally be doing something for someone every minute of the day if your body could handle it. You run to isolation just to catch your breath. However, you don't find this escape refreshing.

Speaker 1:

You've been very successful in your professional life, but if you're honest, you know you're still searching for purpose. You struggle with perfectionism, holding yourself to a higher standard than you hold others. You also struggle with comparison, never feeling like enough as you compare yourself to other professional women with clean houses, perfect partners, extraordinary children and a laundry list of professional accolades. You may even find the work you once loved is now wearing you thin, which distresses your soul. Now you're questioning if you were truly called to do this work in the first place. Your career frustrated. You feel checked out and no longer interested in things you once loved. Your emotions are all over the place and your wellness habits seem to have vanished from your life. You taught everyone in your life that you could be all things to all people, and they believed you. Now, friend, you just want to run away from it all. You think you are all alone. You feel like you're the only successful woman living with these struggles.

Speaker 1:

Friend, it's not just you. You did not make this up. There's a name for all of that. It's called burnout. More specifically, I call this the cycle of burnout, but we'll discuss that in detail in chapter three. Hi, friend, I'm Dr Patrice Buckner Jackson, but you can call me PBJ. All my friends do. I call you friend because we have some things in common I am a wife, a mama Patrice ie stepmama, a daughter, a big sister, an aunt, a mentor, a friend, a minister, a transformational speaker, an educator for almost 25 years now, and executive coach and now an author.

Speaker 1:

Honestly, there aren't many professional goals I set for myself that I haven't attained, and at each accomplishment I felt like I needed the next one, the next promotion, the next project or the next accolade. I expected the next one to bring the peace I longed to experience. I was searching for a finish line, but I only found more curves and detours. I brought all of myself to everything I did and ultimately I lost myself. In this book, you will learn three proven strategies for disrupting burnout so you can discover your innate, unique brilliance. For now, know that you will release mindsets that keep you trapped in the cycle of burnout and you'll create new belief systems that accelerate your true brilliance.

Speaker 1:

This is more than self-care. This is about recovery and revival. I'll share my own testimony, share testimonies from my clients and teach you, step by step the strategies we use to beat burnout. Please note clients names and identifying details have been changed throughout this book to protect the integrity of their journey. These stories are shared to allow you to see what is possible, but remember every journey is unique. Your journey will not mirror any story shared here. Your journey is specifically crafted to you alone Throughout this book. I will encourage you to seek the services of a licensed counselor, as this book is not intended to be a substitute for therapy. I encourage all my clients to work with a counselor as they implement the strategies discussed here to ensure they have the support necessary to accomplish deep work.

Speaker 1:

Friend, it's time for you to get your breath back. Take this journey out of burnout and into brilliance with me. Oh, friend, listen, I know, I know. I know you're saying PBJ. I did not come to this podcast episode this week for you to tell all my business. Friend, here's what I've learned the hard way If we are not willing to say it, we cannot heal it. So I had to start by speaking directly to the person that this book was written for, so that you will hear the call and come join us as we move from burnout to brilliance. I cannot wait to share more of this journey with you.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, there are spoonfuls of PBJ that came to my heart as I was reading the book aloud. There is emotion in all the things. I gave it to you raw. It's not pretty, but it's worth it. It's worth it. So can we do this together? Listen, if you have not purchased the book, you can go to Amazon. I'll leave a link in the show notes for you to go ahead and grab your book. Within that book there is a fillable workbook. It's one thing to read it, it's another thing to do the work. It's one thing to read it, it's another thing to do the work. It's one thing to listen to it. It's another thing to do the work. So I equipped you to do the work, but you got to buy the book in order to get access to the workbook. So I'm going to leave a link for you to grab the book from Amazon so that you can download your workbook and we can walk this thing out together.

Speaker 1:

But y'all, let's not start a new year the same way we started this one. It's time to do life differently. It's mandatory. It's too much going on in the world for us to continue to exist, surviving, overwhelmed and burnt out. You want to go with me. Come on, let's go. As always, friend, you know that you are powerful, you are significant, you are brilliant and you are loved. Love always, pbj, thank you.
