Show Notes

Theo Fleury is the first hockey player I remember idolizing as a five year old kid, watching him play for my beloved Salt Lake Golden Eagles. Due to his height at 5'6", he almost wasn't even drafted. But he thrived as a professional hockey player. He has won a gold medal with Canada in 2002, the Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989, the Turner Cup with the Golden Eagles in 1988, made the NHL all-star team seven times, and set several scoring records. But Theo had a secret; after years of being sexually abused in his teenage years, he became addicted to drugs and alcohol. But after he turned his life around, he is now an activist for overcoming trauma in many different ways and on many different platforms, including writing a bestselling book Playing With Fire, and starting his fantastic podcast, The Theo Fleury Podcast. He delivered this amazing Ted Talk, and frequently speaks out about racial injustice. Love, kindness, forgiveness and connection are all part of his message. I was STOKED to have this conversation!
